RE: (S24) - PT 2 - Rising Stocks - GotDatWeeFee - 08-17-2020 For this, I wanted to talk about two different teams that I invested into this season. We will start with the as of right now bad…... real bad. I like most people hopped on the Chicago stonk wagon in the hopes of buying in cheap and making a nice little profit. Yea no this clearly was a bad idea being a noob to this I thought I would go with the flow surely their stock prices couldn’t drop too much and even if it did it couldn’t be that much of a loss. I’m sure anyone currently invested in this realizes what an absolute dumpster fire this is. My second investment though has turned out quite well. I bought in on that sweet cheap San Jose stock. It was a nice ride at first before following it up with two losses. Thankfully they bounced back with a win making this for a nice profit. It essentially made up for the Chicago loss as for now at least. Lesson learned from this, don’t just buy cheap stock, buy a cheap stock that shows potential promise, or for that matter just buy a stock that shows upside no matter the price. I was over complicating this in the beginning, it is as simple as buy stock for the teams that are going to win more than they lose lol. ![]() RE: (S24) - PT 2 - Rising Stocks - Roezam - 08-17-2020 The biggest stonk tank that I had projected this season has to be the Chicago Butchers. I had them projected to be the #2 team in the NSFC and boy oh boy they are 1-3, so I may be a bit wrong. I think the blame has to fall on their rushing game. They currently have the 3rd best passing offense behind Quarterback George O'Donnell and his elite receiving core. But when you go look at their rushing totals and they're sitting in 2nd to last place in front of only Liberty. That's not good. Their running back combo of Baby Yoda and Julio Tirtawidjaja has been as bad as whoever made that mess of a last name. I think in order to start turning this disaster of a season around they need to put their trust into Baby Yoda because he has shown that he can carry the load, he was the RB5 last year in terms of yards and tied for 4th in touchdowns amongst running backs. But that's enough roasting of the RB situation lets look at this defense. I'm not even sure there is a defense. Through the first 4 weeks they have given up the 2nd most points in the entire league at 110 behind, can you guess it, Liberty. Let me repeat myself, that's not good. Their biggest problem on defense is that they just don't do anything. They have the fewest amount of sacks at 6 and they haven't gotten a single interception yet. Someone on this team needs to step up whether its one of their best defensive linemen like John "Tripod" Smith or Mario VonPebbles or if its their elite cornerback in Osiris Firestorm-Fjord. As much fun as it is to make fun of the extra mediocre use of their running backs this game isn't entirely about offense, defense has to step up also. Unfortunately for them they have some tough games coming up. Their best chance to win soon isn't until week 8 when they face the Otters. Hey, at least they beat Liberty. RE: (S24) - PT 2 - Rising Stocks - GuitarMaster116 - 08-17-2020 I do not really know much about the league yet, so I do not really know exactly who was expected to play really well and who was expected to play bad. Because of this, I had consulted with my teammates and also looked at what the majority of people had picked at the beginning of the season as the best and worst teams in both divisions. So I am going to base what teams stocks went higher and lower based on the preseason ranking I put. The biggest stock who has fallen to me was the Chicago Butchers. I bought in to the hype since so many people had them rated very highly because they had a brand new QB and not a bad team overall. Now they have basically become a meme around the league and are no longer contenders in most people eyes, although it is still early in the season so maybe they can turn around. The second team I think stock has dropped a lot was the Orange County Otters. I constantly saw them winning their division in a majority of peoples list, and if they weren't the top, they were in the top 3. I bought in the hype and ranked them number 1, and they have had a very disappointing start to the season to say the least. They are on a 2 game win streak now so maybe they can turn it around, but at this point I do not think they can still win the division. The last team I am going to talk about is the Sarasota Sailfish. There were very few people in the league who had this team rated highly, and now here we are where they are the best team in the league. Against all odds they proved everyone wrong and raised their stocks, beating some of the best teams in the league like Yeti and the Wraiths. They have definintly caught the attention of all the other teams, as they still are the only undefeated team in the league so far, even after playing some of the biggest competitors. If the Sailfish can keep this up, there stock will rise even more and we might be seeing them during Ultimus week. Those three teams in my opinion had the biggest changes in stock so far in the season. Word Count: 391 RE: (S24) - PT 2 - Rising Stocks - Cody - 08-17-2020 The Orange County Otters stock is definitely rising. The Otters started off the season 0-3 and since have won 2 games in a row quite handily against formidable teams in Honolulu Hahalua and Arizona Outlaws. The resurgence of longtime quarterback Franklin Armstrong is the main reason why this team has bounced back. The combination of Armstrong and number one Wide Receiver Future Trunks have been lighting up opposing defenses in Weeks 4 & 5. The dynasty looked like it was at an end after the first three weeks of the season with the team struggling to put up any points. The team has the chance to string together a few wins with their only difficult game being against the Colorado Yeti in Week 6. If the they manage to win that game there’s a real possibility this team could be 6-3 when they go on to face the league leading Sarasota Sailfish in week 9. The sky is the limit with this team if they keep up their current pace and if I was currently in the mark to invest in any team it would definitely be the supposed “former dynasty” that is the Orange County Otters. I advise you to put any loose change in this quiet juggernaut. In 200 words, discuss a particular team or player and demonstrate how their hypothetical stock has risen or fallen since the start of the season. Is the team facing unexpected issues or a flurry of success? Has the player regressed unexpectedly on the field or have they taken a step forward? Seeing as I'm on the Copperheads, I think our progress through the first four week of this season has been much like the current stock market - hair-raising falls followed by big increases. For a team that had strong hopes of making it back to the Ultimus, dropping the first two games was rough. I think most people weren't expecting the SaberCats to a major contender this year, but they managed to take control early and keep it, outscoring us in each of the first three quarters. The next week, we were crushed scorewise by the Outlaws despite nearly identical passing and rushing yards and winning turnover battle. We did manage to hold them to just over 3 yards per rush, but they still were determined to keep running with 34 attempts which I guess was the recipe for success, somehow. We then turned things around in a big way the next two games. Against Orange county, we squeaked out a win with some big passing plays and key turnovers, despite an ugly game on the penalty front. Alex Dasistwirklichseinnachname missing the third quarter extra point also ended up being critical, as otherwise we'd have been tied. And then week 4 vs. the Second Line we had an outstanding statistical game, winning time of possession for the first time, converting more than half our third downs, and averaging just about 5 yards per carry on 40 rushes. If we can keep that up, then I think we have a good future, but if our failures from earlier weeks reappear then I think we may be in for another crash. RE: (S24) - PT 2 - Rising Stocks - Jguy - 08-18-2020 Even though the DSFL has only had 1 week of regular season play out so far, we can see a couple of surprising trends that are starting with one team in particular. That team is the London Royals. The London Royals split their 4 preseason games down the middle. Losing the first two, then showing their potential by winning the two that followed. And we saw this trend continue into the regular season when they defeated their NFC rival Grey Ducks in a close 24-21 road victory. But you may ask why this is significant? It's just the first game, there are so many more to play. However the worst defeat the Royals suffered in the preseason was a 32-12 drumming by the Grey Ducks, and then the Royals not only come back and beat them in their own house during the first week, but they already have sole possession of first place in the NFC! Both the Coyotes and the Pythons lost in the first week as well. The Royals can already claim that they control their own destiny! And this brings me to my second surprising trend, one that plays a direct role in the manifestation of the first. Charlamagne Cortez, the QB for the London Royals had a record breaking game in week one. But it was not just a record breaking game, but it was a record breaking game three times over. That is right, Cortez broke 3 team records on his way to leading the Royals to victory and claiming the offensive game ball for London. But this was not necessarily a predictable outcome. You see, Cortez did not start off the preseason on the right foot. In the first two preseason games, which happened to be the ones that were televised, Cortez put up shockingly bad numbers. His passer rating of 66.1 in the first preseason game only tumbled even further to a worrisome 36.5 passer rating against the Grey Ducks in the second preseason game. But the upward trend that started in the 3rd and 4th preseason games went unknown to the majority of the world due to those games not being broadcast. So when Cortez played the best game of his young career during week 1 of the regular season, he shocked the league. And if Cortez can keep up this trend, I am sure the London Royals as a team will follow suit. The desired result of hoisting the Ultimini trophy is still a ways off, but it is definitely is a damn good first step on that path. RE: (S24) - PT 2 - Rising Stocks - muse316 - 08-18-2020 The Hahalua’s are raring to go in the locker room. They cheer, the shout, their energy infects anyone who enters the room. “And what have we done?!” shouts Jack Banks, the tackling machine. “3 WINS! We’re on our way up, boys!” “That’s right!” shouts Arianlacher. “I mean, I got 10 tackles first game ALONE! And my man Waters here go 9! Kearse got 8!” “The defense is killing it,” says Skywalker, the rookie QB. “You guys save my butt all the time.” “C’mon man, you’re doing pretty good! You got a 125.3 rating in week 3. You threw 3 TD’s in Week 5! That’s not too shabby for a rookie!” Skywalker looks determined. “I can do better! And I’m only getting those points because you guys are getting those interceptions. Who’s even heard of 9 interceptions in 5 games? That last interception by Banks man, with 7 seconds left in the game was beautiful!” Banks grins. “We’re all killing it guys! We were the new expansion team and very few people took us seriously. And we’re killing it!” “We just need to keep killing it,” inserted Arianlacher. “And we will! It’s our year, boys and girls. Let’s bring that beautiful Ultimus trophy home!” “ON THREE! ONE, TWO, THREE, RAYS THE ROOF!!!” (211 words) RE: (S24) - PT 2 - Rising Stocks - Arvot - 08-18-2020 The new member of the London Royals backfield Steven Wadham stock is on the rise following a solid debut in the DSFL week one win over the Minnesota Grey Ducks. The rookie looked solid positionally but was not called into action too often in a game where the Royals dominated possession. The rookie's inexperience was exposed when the Royals gave up an 82 yard run for a touchdown in the 4th quarter. Wadham missed a tackle that led to the run. When interviewed after the game Wadham said "I got my angles wrong and overcommitted. Maybe it was just the excitement of getting my first career tackle led me to be a bit rash. I'll learn from this and come back stronger." From seemingly out of nowhere, Wadham is pushing to become a fixture in the safety corps for the London Royals. The next challenge for the Royals and Wadham will be their upcoming match, facing off against the Portland Pythons. Wadham has been training hard and hopes he can rack up some tackles and help the team to another win, maintaining their perfect start to the season. Wadham is one to watch over the coming weeks as he continues to work hard with the coaches and learn from the veterans around him. RE: (S24) - PT 2 - Rising Stocks - Goat_Whisperer - 08-18-2020 Portland Pythons are struggling, there is no other way to put it. Last not only in the Northern division but Portland is also among the worst teams in the whole DSFL. Record of 0-1-0 after one game does not leave much to the imagination, a lot more was expected after a strong pre-season. Portland won London and Kansas during the pre-season games, both of those games were solid performances. Portland was the better team, they almost dominated and deserved to win. Between those two games, Portland also lost to Norfolk and Tijuana, but they were close games. Important to remember that Portland´s roster has gone through some changes, some players moved on and in return fresh faces joined the team, but even then especially concerning was the Norfolk game, Portlands only game so far in the regular season was against Norfolk, but unlike the pre-season game, it was not a close game. Portland was simply not good enough and Norfolk took the win. Tough to say if there are one or two reasons behind Portland's abysmal run so far, as mentioned pre-season games showed a lot of promise when taking the roster movements into consideration but also in general, Portland is a top team with top players. Perhaps its all mental, lets hope Portland is able to bounce back and start winning soon. |
