RE: (S24) - PT 3 - Midseason Mania - GotDatWeeFee - 08-24-2020 For the Minnesota Grey Ducks, we have a pretty elite defense that is filled with some major award nominees. I will touch on three starting with the returning Defensive Player of the Year and Linebacker of the Year Alejandro Chainbreaker. He has opened the season with a monstrous stat line making him a top candidate for Linebacker and Defensive player of the year again. Leading the nation in tackles and tied in first place with leading sacks so far into the season is a great way to start the year and to continue building on. In second, we got the man himself Rashad Hilliard. Starting the season off slow we thought he was just a one-hit-wonder in his rookie season but has finally found his stride in the last game. He is in the running with a whopping seven-way tie for second-highest passes deflected, and in his last game he came up in the box to make a play forcing a fumble and recovering it to tie for second among cornerbacks in forced fumbles and fumble recoveries. Last but certainly not least we have Wasrabi Gleel coming in as a rookie and making an immediate impact for the Grey Ducks this season. As a rookie he is fifth in the nation in tackles, is one of five linebackers with an interception, has two tackle for losses, two sacks, and three passes deflected. What else is there to say, the kid is an animal and can accomplish all this while Chainbreaker is on the field next to him. ![]() RE: (S24) - PT 3 - Midseason Mania - Gwdjohnson - 08-24-2020 Now buckle up folks, because today you are going to be shown why me, Garfield Despacito Jr., is the clear cut candidate for MVP. Despite being someone who many considered to be a player who would struggle immensely at the pro level, it is simply indisputable that Despacito Jr. is the best receiver in the league. To begin, Despacito Jr. has simply received for the most yards in the league. That always helps one's case for MVP. Now there is of course Mendonca on Austin who has more yards, but they're last in the ASFC at the time of writing, so they are excluded lol. His closest comparables for yardage are Owens of Colorado with 240 yards, Ayers of Honolulu with 201, and Hanyadi of Yellowknife with 187. Despacito's current 279 yards just blows them out of the water completely. He is also tied for first in touchdowns with a whole two on top of his already impressive receiving yards, so the case to be made for Garfield is clear. Now at this point, you're probably wondering "but Gwdjohnson, you are clearly just making Despacito Jr. look way better than he really is by comparing his receiving stats with running backs, who primarily rush the ball instead of making catches!" Yep. RE: (S24) - PT 3 - Midseason Mania - angeloc - 08-24-2020 I'm going to take this time to show some love to a position that doesnt often get love DT, and I feel their are very few who deserve said love more then Honkey Tonk Haywood. He was drafted in the 2nd half of the draft with honestly probably very little expectations and fan fare and he has turned into one of the best players on a very respectable Pythons defensive line. This dude has been an anchor down there stepping up when I have failed and done terribly. Through 4 games with the Pythons good ole Haywood has 10 tackles and a sack for a Pythins defense that has started slow and has definitely been stepping up over the last few weeks. While I'm not sure if defensive player of the year worthy it is definitely worth consideration for defensive lineman of the year. The more I watch Haywood and the way he is the more I am impressed with him week in and week out. He puts in the work, doesnt ask for anything in return and has guided us through some of our darker times. I really respect and appreciate this dude and wanted to give attention where it was due. Code: 203 words RE: (S24) - PT 3 - Midseason Mania - Bwestfield - 08-24-2020 Luckily I am on a great team. At the time I write this we are currently undefeated. So that being said I am surrounded by great players, many of whom will get awards this season. So far I am playing to the best of my abilities but I am not producing in a way to get that type of recognition. All in all I still give everything I have every week. You know who else gives everything they have every week? Rickie Vaughne, the dude is a monster. I have been watching him play all season and trying to follow in his footsteps. He sinks under the radar like a submarine and then pounces like a wolf when the ball is thrown his way. He has 2 interceptions, one going all the way for a touchdown. I myself was 1 yard short of going the distance. I just couldn’t push my defender off enough. Rickie also has 2 forced fumbles and a fumble recovery. Whenever the ball gets passed his way, he’ll either make sure the receiver doesn’t get it or make sure he wished he hadn’t. Rickie gets my vote for cornerback of the year and defender of the year, if that’s even a thing. RE: (S24) - PT 3 - Midseason Mania - Ryan0413 - 08-24-2020 PBE PT RE: (S24) - PT 3 - Midseason Mania - Z-Whiz - 08-24-2020 Oh hey look, an opportunity to talk about myself! I think Gunner Thorbjornsson has an opportunity to win wide receiver of the year down in the DSFL. He is tied for 1st in receptions for WRs with 21 (only Rigby Raccoon has more and he is listed as FB). He is 2nd in yardage with 305, which is 15 yards behind league leader Howlett. Where he lacks is the voters favorite stat, touchdowns. Unfortunately, Gunner has only caught 1 this season, 4 off the pace of the league’s best. Despite a pass heavy offense where the play count stands at 160 passes to 116 rushes, the Royals offense is even on touchdowns with 4 passing and 4 rushing. It has been a struggle finding the endzone this year. They are 3rd in the league (1st in their conference) in total yards but 7th in the league (4th in their conference) in points scored. The Royals offense will need to start finding pay dirt more if they want to continue to win games. The building blocks are there, they just need to execute better in the offensive half of the field. If the Royals offense can start finding the endzone more, some of those should fall into Gunner’s hands. He’s well on pace for over 1000 yards. If he can get his touchdowns up to 7, he will have a great shout for WRotY. 233 words RE: (S24) - PT 3 - Midseason Mania - Rusfan - 08-25-2020 Korbin Brown, wide receiver and kick returner for the Portland Pythons, should be up for both best of awards at those respective positions. As a receiver, Brown is 5th in receiving yards, 2nd in touchdowns, and 5th in receptions. Not the most eye-popping stats ever, but when you take in the fact that Portland is 4th in average passing yards per game, 7th in average yards per game, and 4th in points per game, Brown is clearly far and away the biggest offensive weapon for the Pythons and the reason that they score any of the points that they get. As a kick returner, Brown is even more impressive. he leads the league in return yards with 445, has the second longest return on the year with 98 yards, just 5 behind Football league's 103 yarder. Brown is also one of only 3 returners with a kick returning touchdown. This will become clearer as the year continues, but even now Brown shows the potential as perhaps the best weapon in the DSFL, as both a receiver and a kick returner. The only competition I see for Brown as return man would perhaps be Akerele in Minnesota. Thank you for coming to my TED talk. RE: (S24) - PT 3 - Midseason Mania - bjkman - 08-25-2020 Oh boy! Here I go talking about myself again! I just capped off the halfway point of the season with a game winner in overtime, showing that pressure means nothing to me. The sailfish are 7-1 at the top of the league, and we are a force to be reckoned with. Not to be biased towards myself but those 1 points and 3 points add up, and I really feel like I am a factor in this game making our team so good. I have not really had the opportunity to punt as much as last season with such a good offense, but I really have a chance to break my 5x loss stream in awards season with my fantastic performance as a kicker. 16/17 on Extra Points, 19/21 on Field Goals with a long of 48 puts me at #2 in the league with Alfredo Crisco right next to me. It is going to be a slobber knocker in the second half of the season with kicker stats, so I am holding out hope that I can surpass him for the lead and the possible award win. I am only going to get better as the season progresses, and because of that, the 2nd half of the season is going to be very fun! Code: 215 Words RE: (S24) - PT 3 - Midseason Mania - muse316 - 08-25-2020 Week 3, and the Hahaluas had one win and one loss under their belt. They were going heading over to the SaberCats home stadium, and tension was high amongst the team with most of the stress centered around Luke Skywalker, the rookie quarterback on the team. The game opened with a field goal by Powers, and Skywalker took a breath of relief. At least they had some points on the board. The Sabercats responded quickly with a touchdown. The stress had returned. Skywalker threw a touchdown. The stress decreased. Lackson runs in another touchdown. New stress. Skywalker knows he has to keep a cool head. He throws another touchdown. Powers adds two field goals, but Skywalker stresses, knowing they need to be up by at least a score. Kane-Maika runs in a touchdown. Relief. Skywalker throws pass after pass, watching the SaberCats creep closer and closer to the Hahaluas. They are always too close for comfort. Lackson gets in yet another touchdown with 1 minute left in the game. The SaberCats are only a field goal away. The final 60 seconds count down, and Skywalker does his best to manage the rest of the game. The game ends. The crowd cheers. Skywalker looks up at the board, and the last four quarters come rushing back. Skywalker did it. He threw two touchdowns. He threw 230 yards, averaging 14.4 yards per pass. He completed two-thirds of his passes. He has a passer rating of 125.3. He just played the performance of the year. And now that the stress is over, he barely remembers any of it. Time for an ice cold ginger ale, and time to relax with his family before the next game. (283 words) RE: (S24) - PT 3 - Midseason Mania - Number 82 - 08-25-2020 After eight games we find ourselves at the halfway mark of the season and I can certainly see a few of them walking away with an award come awards night. Venus Powers is always in contention for the Punter of the Year award but this season I can see Venus taking home the Kicker of the Year award. Through eight games, Venus is one of 3 kickers who hasn't missed a field goal (12/12) or extra point (18/18). What makes it more impressive is that Powers is perfect from 50+ yards this season, going 3/3. The only other player to have hit more than one field goal from 50+ yards is Karmichael Hunt who is 50%, making 2/4 so far this season. Additionally, Power's has also been able to take home an Offensive Player of the Game as a kicker, making 5/5 field goals while making their only extra point attempt. Accounting for 16 of the points in the 22-7 win over the Wraiths in Week 7. Jim Waters, the quarterback turned cornerback in the pro has continued putting in strong performances following their impressive rookie year. Through eight games this season, Waters sits tied for second with 4 interceptions and sits first overall in passes defended with 15, two more than the next best player. Waters is a foundational piece in the Honolulu secondary and his playmaking ability has been impressive, helping to shut down opposing receivers and making quarterbacks think twice when throwing the football. Nicholas Ayers, Honolulu's rookie running back who has put up some strong performances to start his career and certainly has a case for Offensive Rookie of the Year honours. So far Ayers has amassed 498 rushing yards and 4 rushing TDs, with 201 receiving yards and 4 receiving TDs. A threat on the ground and in the air, Ayers has been a reliable weapon for the rookie quarterback Skywalker and could very well bring home the Offensive Rookie of the Year honours on awards night.
