RE: (S25) - PT 1 - Opening Statements - Sl1nny92 - 10-05-2020 Sam Howitzer will be a Top 6 QB in the ISFL this season Now, I understand this may be somewhat of a bold claim. Obviously, ISFL defenses are a different kettle of fish to the defenses of the DSFL, much like the NFL Pre-Season comparatively to the NFL regular season. However, based on his performances last season and the players Howitzer has around him in New York, I can see him surprising some people. For starters, let's take a look at Howitzer's award-winning calibre season in the DSFL. The man just knew how to look after the ball. Howitzer only threw 6 interceptions last season (less than any QB in the ISFL) whilst also making the second most attempts in the DSFL behind Tijuana's QB, who subsequently threw double digits in picks. As a new franchise, looking after the ball and keeping drives alive is going to be crucial, and Howitzer has that in his locker. Then, we look at his supporting cast. Kingston, Snyder and Fank provide a nice mix of options to throw to. Kingston is a reliable veteran, Snyder had an excellent rookie season and seems like a player who loves finding the end zone, whilst Fank will be a hungry rookie, probably playing in the slot, who showed many flashes of ability for Norfolk in the DSFL. Then you add in the experienced of TE Leon McDavid and you have a very good group. Last season, the QB with the 6tth best QBR (Banks II) had a completion rating nearly 10% less than Howitzer did. If Sam can keep up his accuracy, whilst also finding the end zone a little more prolifically, I'm calling it now. He will crack the Top 6. RE: (S25) - PT 1 - Opening Statements - Pat - 10-05-2020 The San Jose Sabercats are going to have the dubious honor of being one of the few teams in league history to go from winning an Ultimus one season to winning less than five games the next. How do I know this? The TEEPS man, the TEEPS. San Jose was probably the biggest surprise of Season 24, somehow stringing together enough wins and tiebreakers to pull together the number one seed in the ASFC and the lovely home field advantage that comes with it. Once in the playoffs, they used that home field power to help push them past very tough matchups in both Arizona and Orange County. Then, in the Ultimus, they shocked the world by defeating the heavily favored Yeti. Season 25, however, will not be kind to them. Now, heading into Season 25, San Jose sports a underwhelming 12,205 total TPE as a team coming into Season 25, which puts them at the 8th highest in the league. I know that the common saying is, "defense wins championships" and I know that SJS is really hoping that's the case. They have 7560 TPE invested on the defensive side of the ball, which is the sixth highest in the league. That's good, right? WRONG San Jose is the second-most imbalanced team in terms of talent. They have nearly 62% of their total TPE invested on defense. Only Orange County has a higher discrepancy between offense and defense. Sure, San Jose is built to hold teams to under 20 points per game, but that doesn't help much if your offense is only built to score 15. On average, the San Jose offense will be sporting a unit that gives up 2,667 TPE to their opposing defense. Now I know what you're going to say, "but, that means their defense must be better than the offense they face. WRONG AGAIN On average, the Sabercats defense is 1634 TPE better than the opposing offenses they'll be trying to slow down. The ONLY thing that will be in SJS's favor is that the ASFC teams overall field weaker offenses, 5688 TPE on average to the NSFC's 6161 TPE. So, in closing, if you're looking for a team to go back to back, you might want to look elsewhere. RE: (S25) - PT 1 - Opening Statements - SchwarzNarr - 10-05-2020 Here’s 250 words about why de Pengu shouldn’t have been nominated for an award last season (and therefore maybe we should look at the awards process again) Posted with permission from @IsaStarcrossed - he knows that de Pengu deserved no votes (and was floored he was even nominated). Adelie de Pengu was nominated last season for the Defensive Rookie of the Year award. Additional nominees include LeSean Paris Crooks, Philip Stein, Greedy Sly, and Arik Eller. However, there is literally no reason (maybe there’s one reason, I haven’t analyzed the data yet), why de Pengu should be included with this list. First: de Pengu didn’t have even close to the top 5 rookies in tackles. In fact of the top 18 rookie defensive players, de Pengu was dead last in tackles (he only had 26. The top 5 players had, 132, 116, 79, 74, and 66 respectively). Second: Tackles for Loss: de Pengu didn’t perform quiet as bad here, but again, he’s not even close to the top five in this stat. He had 3 tackles for loss, which, seems crappy until you realize that most players had an average of 3. Forced Fumbles/Fumble Recoveries: He had none. Zip. Zero. Zilch. Not that there were a ton, but come on man. Sacks: Literally the only redeeming thing with de Pengu right now. He had 7 sacks, which were the second highest amount in the league by a defensive rookie. The sacks are by far the most impressive stat from de Pengu, but it literally shouldn’t have been enough to get him nominated. De Pengu had no interceptions, no passes deflected, and no safeties or touchdowns. I’m impressed he managed to make the ballot, was thrilled personally that he got a vote (thanks Colabear!) but, uh, he didn’t deserve it. I don’t know what happens in the awards nomination process (I’ve heard it’s akin to the thunderdome where he who screams loudest, gets nominated), but I’m wondering if there should be a more streamlined process for who gets the initial nods. RE: (S25) - PT 1 - Opening Statements - run_CMC - 10-05-2020 S25 - PT1 - Opening Statements Frankly, I don't know a whole lot about the league. But I do know this. Wolfie McDummy should be a lock for the Hall of Fame. I know this may be hard to believe, but I intend to destroy your feeble mind with FACTS and LOGIC. First of all, before his onfield stats, Wolfie is a trailblazer. Not the Portland sneak-into-playoffs-with-a-losing-record kind, but the inspiring kind. Wolfie is the first ever ISFL quarterback to be a dog .....since Borkus Maximus. But Borkus had a dog head. Wolfie is all dog, minus the times he mysteriously morphs into a Kyler Murray-esque figure in league graphics. Do you know how hard it is to throw a football with opposable thumbs? Extremely. So there's that, but there's also his stellar record. Wolfie has led the Colorado Yeti to seven straight winning seasons, including 2 championship runs, one of which was won in such a way that it will go down as the greatest comeback of all time-- and in the Ultimus!!! It takes a special player to lead his team like this. And at the individual level, Wolfie cannot stop setting records. He is quickly climbing the career completions leadership, has one of the longest rushes of all time, and will pass the infamous 30,000 career passing yards mark this season. He is truly amazing. ...we're gonna not talk about the interceptions leaderboard. Most importantly, he is a good boi, and he loves treatos. This is FACTUAL informational. If you disagree, I will fight you. Last season, Portland had the #1 scoring offense in the DSFL last season, but only posted the third post passing yards per game, and was dead last in rushing yards per game. Portland's offense had HUGE losses to the ISFL, with MVP winning quarterback Sam Howitzer being traded to and subsequently called up by the New York Silverbacks, star wide receiver and returner of the year Korbin Brown being called up by the Baltimore Hawks, and tight end Dave Batista being called up to the Colorado Yeti. Additionally, Lineman Chuck Roth has switched lines and is now a defensive tackle. Kicker Pseudo QB has also been lost as well. Obviously, losing Howitzer is huge, but the loss of Korbin Brown will prove even more massive. His returning ability single-handedly turned around games for Portland last season. He scored two return TDs and notched many long returns to give Portland a short field to work with. The biggest loss, in my opinion, is at kicker. Pseudo QB was kicker of the year this past season, tallying a crazy 116 points between field goals and extra points. No other kicker broke 100 points this past season. He will be replaced by a bot kicker, who will certainly account for around half as many points. Portland stands to have a rough season coming up for them. RE: (S25) - PT 1 - Opening Statements - zaynzk - 10-05-2020 Why Bob Roberts will win DRoTY. I know what you are thinking, how is a S25 safety who was drafted by an expansion team, going to compete with guys drafted in the first two rounds, or guys who where sent back down a season or two and have maybe 2x or more tpe than Roberts, but im going to explain to you why this is not the case. Firstly as a rookie on a completely new franchise, Roberts is going to get the opportunity to play more snaps than other rookies in the league. Due to the fact that Sam Howitzer will be one of the lowest TPE starting QB's meaning that the New York Defense is likely to be on the field more often than other teams, meaning more snaps for Roberts, and more snaps mean more potential for big plays and that gives him a huge chances at DRoTY. However there is one thing that sets Roberts apart from the other players. Incentives. Roberts has a clause in his contract that rewards him for winning this award. One that involves New York GM buying Roberts a pizza in real life, if he is able to win this award. Roberts might be seen as an outside candidate but his drive for a free pizza IRL might push him over the edge, and that is why i am betting on him winning DRoTY RE: (S25) - PT 1 - Opening Statements - Tylar - 10-05-2020 SHL Affiliate PT RE: (S25) - PT 1 - Opening Statements - The_Kidd - 10-05-2020 My topic of discussion has already been addressed in some capacity, which is awesome, but I feel there is still some alterations that can further benefit the process. I'm a huge proponent of free agency. I guess being a rabid, avid basketball and hockey fan has ingrained the addiction to see frequent roster movement season to season. Unfortunately in the ISFL, there isn't much free agency movement and after undergoing free agency myself last offseason, I can see why some people are absolutely petrified or put off by free agency. I believe the biggest drawbacks with free agency comes from the condensed timeline --- so many decisions are rushed and the pressure is amplified severely due to opening only a few days before the draft and subsequent depth chart submission deadline. Here are some issues and suggestions I believe would make the process less tense(I would hope)
