Jonathan Shuffleboard went to Syracuse. Why Syracuse? Well Jonathan was always a New York boy, so of course staying in state was a no brainer for him. Yet Jonathan wanted to be in big time program and play against the best teams in the nation. Jonathan had his sights on the DSFL so he wanted to be noticed. Syracuse plays in the ACC, playing against big time college opponents such as Florida State and Clemson a few times in his career was something Jonathan knew he had to do.
The biggest issue Jonathan has was Syracuse wasn't actively recruiting him. While they had sent him some interest it had died out very fast. Their final offer was just a half scholarship. So Jonathan had to study hard on his SATs and earned a very high score for himself and got himself a academic scholarship. His brains are apparent on the football field, and they are also apparent in the classroom.
Once on campus however, it was clear that Shuffleboard was the best player in the Syracuse program. He was the starting FS on the first day of practice, and he took KR duties within a few weeks. Shuffleboard was a four year star in Orange, and left following his graduation, continuing his education until he was picked up by Tijuana.

I grew up playing both baseball and football, but in my heart I knew football was my future. That decision was cemented when Georgia offered me a scholarship my sophomore year of high school and I committed on the spot. I wasn't particularly highly recruited, maybe due to the fact that I shut down my recruitment immediately after committing to Georgia. Other schools called to check in, but I told them all the same thing - "don't waste your time, I'm going to Georgia." When I got to Athens, I was lucky enough to be in a veteran defensive backs room. I had two All-Conference players in there with me who I could ask questions to, get pointers on, and just learn the position the right way. I only played special teams my freshman year, but that was fine with me because I was still learning so much. I actually think it helped that I could just focus on learning and playing on kick and punt return instead of going out there and having my confidence broken on the field against SEC teams. After my freshman year, we lost two starters to the NFL Draft and it was my time to step up. I used all the knowledge and skills that the upperclassmen and my coaching staff taught me and it really all came together for me halfway through that sophomore season. I became entrenched as a starter and never looked back the rest of my time at UGA. We ended up winning two conference titles and I started the next two and a half years for the team I grew up adoring and cheering for at countless home games. All in all, it was a fairy tale ride from high school dual-sportsman to All-American safety at the University of Georgia.

Douglas Quaid was a late bloomer. He had a successful high school career relying on his physical attributes primarily. Coming out of high school he was not a heavily recruited prospect by the top NCAA programs. Teams saw him as a very raw defensive end and outside linebacker hybrid type of player. The 247 recruiting website had him as a three star level prospect. He had some offers from division 1 schools out in the western United States such as BYU, Nevada, and Utah State. Quaid ended up staying in his home state and signing with Utah State. He did not like the weird culture over at BYU. As a freshman Quaid made his name on special teams, he was also the first LB off the bench. On kickoff coverage Quaid would pursue the ball carrier like a heat seeking missile. When he made tackles there was a sickening thud that echoed throughout the stadium. By his sophomore season he had earned a starting linebacker spot and never looked back. Quaid was a big athletic kid that started mentally processing plays faster and faster. Good schemes by the coaching staff helped Quaid capitalize on his athleticism and make high impact plays. He improved exponentially and ended up winning the Butkus award (NCAA’s top linebacker) as a senior. (217 words)

Buster first moved over to the states on a geology and football scholarship at Purdue University. An injury to the star running back meant Buster was the starter for the First game of the season. Buster destroyed the opposition so bad they stopped tackling him. In that game he had 4 Touchdowns for 250 yards. During practice he was going too hard on every play, in typical 'boulder' fashion, unfortunately injuring one too many starters. Eventually getting his scholarship revoked due to this and getting caught bouldering the campus naked after downing a keg of Tennent’s and murdering a group of haggis. No other College team would touch him as he was destroying all players while on trial. He once cleaned out the whole offensive line because they were in the way.

Before college Buster played a lot of sports, were he would bulldoze other participants, even at golf. That's when he was forced to play American Football, as the pads would protect the other players from him. Initially starting out as a running back, it became clear to everyone this may not be the best position for Buster. Rather than finding the gap to run through, Buster was initiating contact with all defenders. His coach decided it may be best to play him at linebacker, bad idea. Penalty flags flew on every play. Buster was now clearing out offensive players even if they didn’t have the ball. A switch back to the offensive side of the ball was needed and the perfect match was found. Buster Bawlls Fullback.

While interested in joining either the Sydney Kings or New Zealand Breakers, Dawkins opted to attend a tryout at the University of Chicago as a means to possibly play college ball in the states. The tryout was more of an avenue to explore opportunities that could have existed in either the states or in Europe. Dawkins wasn't highly touted and was an unknown prospect especially when it came to football as he had very limited experience playing football in Australia. At the time, the focus was on having a career playing basketball professionally, however the tryout at the University of Chicago presented an opportunity to have a crack at both. The University of Chicago was appealing as it was an open tryout so no need for an invite, it's in a city that he'd like to visit and lastly they the school had pretty good economics department.

After the tryout, Dawkins was offered a spot to join the Maroons football program. Having had offers back home playing basketball, Dawkins figured that he may as well give football a go and should it not pan out, he could try returning home to pursue a career in the NBL. Due to his inexperience and to help with the transition to playing defense, Dawkins was only really expected to play a minor role on defense for his first season, with most of his playing time spent on the special teams unit. As the Maroons defensive backs suffered injuries to start the season, Dawkins found himself on the field as a corner, well ahead of the schedule. He would prove to be serviceable but would return to a lesser role once the starters retuned from injury. Further injuries saw Dawkins again seeing playing time, this time at safety where he would look more at home. While still raw and still coming to grips with playing on defense having only really played wide receiver and running back in Australia, Dawkins played well enough to remain as the starter as the team's free safety for the remainder of the season. There were definitely some growing pains, lining up in the wrong formation, missing assignments on defense, but through it all there was signs of development in his first season. His grasp of the game would improve and by the end of the season, it was all but certain that Dawkins would be a starting safety for the his second season with the Maroons.

Blago Kokot went to Arizona University. There were no bidding wars or competition to get Kokot as he was almost an unknown talent at that point. The decision to study in Arizona was made based on two factors, 1) the family lived somewhat close and 2) Arizona let Blago in, so that was all it took. Early on Kokot did not get to play that much, the other kickers were simply better, which was expected as Kokot did not have as extensive background in the sport as some of the other kids, but Kokot had the potential and hunger to make it into ISFL.

Took over a year before Kokot got to play, it was not because of Kokot did not improve or show that he could play at the College level, the main reason was how the coach of the football team wanted that every player also does well in their studies, that caused the most problems for Kokot, but just like with football Kokot managed to improve his grades and as a result he eventually was the number one kicker in Arizona.

It was not an easy road from Croatia to Arizona, but still showed a tremendous level of dedication from Blago and most importantly from his family as they were willing to move thousands of miles from home to get a better life. That move directly made it possible for Kokot to play football and study in college.
