Tier 2: Short Form Tasks (Each must be 400+ words)  5 TPE each.

11) What is it that keeps you interested in the league? Is it your love of dot football, your locker room, a specific job or role you play, or something else? What do you like most about it? What could be improved?

I am back here now for my second stint in the ISFL(or the NSFL as it was back then), so my interest in the league has wavered enough for me to have created, played two seasons, then retired and had a 24 season break. Not ideal, but it is what it is and I've decided that it deserves another shot. So here I am with a new create, Buffalo Hunter. He's a Tight End, but with a couple of conversations with DSFL scouts already, it's apparent that I may need to adjust my expectations of playing that position, and transition to something else if I want to be drafted to a team that can use me at my native position. I think I'll be OK with that if it becomes a reality, so it won't be a shock come draft day, and I've been selected by a team that has plans to use Hunter at a position on a completely different side of the ball. I guess that would be defense now that I read that back.
I've been in several football sim leagues so the concept of playing on defense isn't new, but just in case I have been banking all of my Training Points, so that if I'm asked to switch, I don't have a messy transfer of attributes to deal with, and updaters are spared the pain of trying to sort through my update page nightmare. As for the ISFL itself, while most of the usernames have changed from when I was here last in 2017, I do recognize a few and can hopefully reconnect with them to assist with my transition back to the league. I find that knowing at least a couple of users when creating in a sim that is either new, or you have been on an extended break from, really helps keep you motivated to grind through the initial point tasks and "dead" phase between creation and being drafted to a roster. That's something I have been having a minor issue with, but after being added to one of the DSFL team's discord channel, that's a little better for me now.
As for an improvement, I think that the introduction of a league portal that could handle updates, player store etc would be a massive boost to the league and also possibly assist with player retention and recruitment by making it easier to manage being in another sim league. That's not a criticism of how the ISFL runs things right now, but after being in a few leagues that do have the online ability to update and purchase equipment etc, the difference is massive. I've been in these leagues now for well over a decade, and coming back to sim leagues such as the PBE and now ISFL, it can be initially difficult to revert back to forum thread updating. Maybe it will arrive here one day, and I hope it does, but for now we should all just get on with how it it's done here. (505)

Tier 3 x 3 (7.5 TPE)

(223 Words)
28 – After an entire season with the new sim, I’m not entirely sure how I feel about it. It looks more aesthetically pleasing and without knowing how the sim works, teams couldn’t really develop a meta strategy out of the gate so in theory everyone was on even playing ground. Archetypes and traits were interesting, but I’m not sure how I feel about their execution. Using Tree’s build for example, I shifted myself towards a more receiver styled tight end and even bought the trait to make myself a more effective receiver who would get open more often, and I just seldom saw the results. I felt like it made me more invisible out there, and being honest that fucking sucks. I know tight ends were a bit wonky in the old sim but there was a way to make them consistently work, but with this, I’m not sure. I’m sure with another season to work out the kinks we’ll see more teams discovering whatever the meta is and how we’ll be able to make every position stand the same, but I’m a little suspicious going into the next season. Call me a skeptic, but I don’t see anything from the sim just yet to warrant me being excited to tune in each week to watch myself get 3 catches for 17 yards.

(214 Words)
18 – The Chicago Butcher sitcom would be the best sitcom to ever grace the league, just because of the eclectic personalities that are gathered on the team. The plot would be a three way love triangle between Tree, Butters, and Bayley. Tree and Bayley would be in love with each other over their love of Taylor Swift, while Tree and Butters are in love over their attraction to Josh Allen (Praise be). After that we’d have the thing that any sitcom needs to be considered a classic; countless background characters that exist only for humor that get meme’d to death on Twitter within two months. We’d have the eye candy in Muford, we’d have the comic relief neighbor CC who’s reoccurring joke is him crashing his bike into a variety of different locations around the neighborhood wherever the episode is taking place, Starboy would also be there to make fun of Butters, and we’ll round off this cast with Frost because frost sux lmap. Obviously this wouldn’t be family friendly because of the excessive alleged murder with Tree being around, and the Josh Allen dynamic gets scarily cult like at times, but it would be some good fun. I doubt Fox would pick us up but ABC definitely would, they’re desperate for content these days.

(226 Words)
21 – Lets talk branding. This league has some pretty fire logos and uniforms out there and it makes the league that much better. I would say the two best uniforms in the league in my opinion belong to the San Jose Sabercats and the Chicago Butchers. Derpcat has entrenched itself in the lore of the league, giving rise to countless memes and similar, and besides that its just a simple and slick looking logo. Bias aside, the Butchers logo works really well in the same vein. It doesn’t try to do too much which can be greatly appreciated, as logos that are too loud distract from the on field product and just look tacky. As for rebrands, I’m going to go with two teams as well to keep it consistent. First team in question is the Secondline. It’s for a little bit of a petty reason, but I dislike purple (mostly because I’m colorblind and purple just looks like blue) and while I appreciate the effort they put in with the jazz players on the logo, it just feels out of place. The other team is the Baltimore Hawks. While yes less is more in almost every case, the Hawk here just feels really boring and simple. It’s not the worst in the league but its largely forgettable which is why I think it could be updated.

13) Rivalry is a interesting thing; and for all teams I view different types of rivalry.  in my own defininition there are two main types of rivalry; biological rivalry; formed from a nateral and unavoidable way; and one that is more of a personal rivalry. Firstly I wanna look at a pure biological rivalry; i have no i'll will towards this team however we were born together and from day one we where compared to each other and likely will be doing that for the rest of our time in the league; I am talking about the berlin fire salamanders. Founded in the S25 season at the same time as new york; we instantly had to play them for the first game of our history. It also helps that founding GM Woelkers was replaced in Minnisota by Berlins GM DeWalt. This obviously conection here plus our shared history leads to a very friendly but incredible alliance, but needs to happen every year; its likely the only rivalry that will not and should not die; however its the one with the least amount of tension or actual bad feelings. 2nd rivalry is one based on personal vendeta; this is one of those rivalries that I personally am always pumped to play and ever more determined to win; This is the rivalry was formed back in the DSFL and it is more personal between the players Gunner Thorbjornsson and Bob Roberts. They were drafted to rival DSFL teams the london Royals and the Dallas Birddogs and became well known in the war of words between the two teams; There has been many different back and forth on and off the field. My favorite on the field moment came in their rookie season for both of the two players; Roberts was in the mist of one of the worst rookie seasons in recent memory; but he managed one imporant stat all season; a Force Fumble which he revovered himself; and you can guess against which player he was able to achieve this against; Thorbjornsson was punched out as he helplessly was forced to watch as roberts was easily able to snag the ball from his stinky sad hands. In all seriousness twitter battles with z-whiz was a big part of getting me invested in the league; and its super cool that we both were able to rise through the ranks and become GM's at the ISFL level to two teams who both have a strong S25 core with an S24 QB

11)

I’ll be honest, what keeps me coming back is the dot football believe it or not.  I know there have been a lot of complaints or “sim gonna sim” comments, but I’m in it for the individual plays and team wins.  To top it off, I feel like I’ve been a part of some terrific locker rooms as well.  When I came up in the DSFL it was with the Portland Pythons, and the locker room was so encouraging and helpful.  Now I’m with the rebuilding Liberty and even though we haven’t won a lot of games, the locker room seems so ambitious and hopeful.  I’m starting to suspect all locker rooms may be like this, but so far my experience has been steadily solid.

However, despite the positive experiences, I actually feel as if I’m approaching a crossroads of sorts.  As I mentioned I’m mainly here for the sims.  I show up every day and do my predictions and point tasks, but I don’t have much interest in extending myself to moderator duties or writing several articles a season just to earn a few bucks.  I’ve grown accustomed to just waiting for 1.5 or 2x media events to scrape up some cash.  I’m also a bit older than most of the users here.  At least that’s what I gather from the discord.  I feel a bit as if I’m an outsider looking in – my own doing – but it makes me wonder how much of a shelf life this all has for me.  I suppose I’m just using this as a soundboard right now, but I think it’s useful to put this stuff down on paper sometimes.  I wish I had a suggestion for how the league could adapt to hold onto users like me, but to be honest I think it’s just a part of the league.  Some people are just going to be hanging on by a thread haha.  I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that.  It’s more on me to accept the fact that I may fall behind my peers a bit in TPE earnings, but that doesn’t mean I can’t build a very competent and effective player.  To take a shot at an improvement suggestion – maybe double media could be a touch more open ended.  This most recent one dealt with sim issues – but to be honest it seems to run ok with me – maybe I am not familiar with the historical relevance or minutiae of how the sim is supposed to work.  I felt a little out of the loop.

(427 words)

14)

I’ll take this opportunity to write about a player on the opposite spectrum compared to my player.  A guy who has gone through regression and has submitted his papers for retirement.  That would be none other than the Philadelphia Liberty former quarterback, Brock Phoenix.  Now I’ve only been in Philly for two years, and in that time I’ve had two team managers, but what has been apparent since I walked in the door was that Brock Phoenix was an adored member of the team.  Although he isn’t the most vocal or active member of the team locker room discord, when he does show up it’s usually to apologize for an interception or congratulate other members of the team for their success.  I myself found that immediately endearing.  Here’s a guy who has maxed his build and is stuck on a completely torn-down team going through a long rebuild, on which he will spend his regression and last couple seasons operating with a roster full of young kids who are overmatched.  Yet, here he is, apologizing for taking a tough sack late in the game, despite probably throwing 60 times for 400 yards.
Phoenix finished season 27 with a 70% completion percentage, easily the best in the league.  The team pivoted more to a rushing attack in season 27 behind 100 overall rated running back Darrell Williams, who finished with over 1,100 yards rushing.  As a result, Phoenix finished with the 5th least attempts in the league.
Although Phoenix took a bit of a backseat in his final year, he certainly saved his best for last.  With the team sitting at 4-10, they went into Orange County for a week 15 matchup with the Otters.  Despite the Otters holding a 7-point lead at the half, and needing a win to keep its playoff hopes alive, the Liberty scored 13 unanswered points in the second half to play the role of spoiler.  Phoenix finished the game 21/28 at 75% for 232 yards and 2 TDs, no interceptions.  A near perfect game.
But Phoenix was not done.  In the season finale, matched against the season 26 champion Yellow Knife Wraiths, Phoenix was the main catalyst behind a 31-10 trouncing of the 10-5 playoff bound Wraiths, who had won 3-straight prior.  I used the team ‘near perfect’ to summarize he week 15 performance, so we’ll have to invent a new superlative for this one.  He finished 26/32, 81%, for 233 yards and three touchdowns, no interceptions.  A 128 rating.  Talk about a swan song.
The post game was classic Brock.  As the team piled love upon the man for a hell of a game and a terrific career, he asked the team to give the game ball to one of the kids.  Of course there would be none of that.  While he will be sorely missed in the years to come, he has taught a lot of people how to be a true pro, and his imprint will be on this liberty roster for a long time.  Cheers to a legend.

8) Write about a potential new recruitment strategy for the league. How can we attract more new players, and what can we do to retain them better? + 5 TPE

I think that this league has done a fantastic job as of late recruiting through reddit and getting players from other sim leagues to come over and create players and many of those people have become very important and influential members in this league. We've seen a huge increase in player retention, and members as a whole which is really awesome to see. So I'd definitely like to commend the ISFL head office and recruitment team for really expanding the league and making it more interesting and fun. Now, for more ideas on how to recruit further. Eventually, and we are seeing this issue with SHL recruitment, reddit will be run dry with members that are looking to join the league. In fact, a lot of people on reddit get mad and are sick of seeing our recruitment posts every so often (I don't really get why since its not hurting anyone, but it is what it is), so reddit recruitment has gotten pretty low for us over in the SHL. Knowing this, I think that it is important to start expanding our recruitment to other platforms. I know I have talked with nour about this over in SHL, but a social media team would definitely be a good thing in my opinion. Currently, any social media associated with any sim league really is confined into a little bubble with the other social media accounts from the leagues. To the rest of the world on these platforms, sim leagues simply do not exist. There are plenty of people out there on instagram, twitter, facebook, whatever platform that would be interested in joining sim leagues. I had no idea that I would be interested nearly 4 years ago when I joined SHL yet here I am. So I think the next logical step is to start to expand our influence on social media in order to reach more sports fans. SO many people view and read comments on posts by the NFL, NHL, etc. I think that commenting on these posts with a short blurb could definitely interest people reading through the comments. If someone is taking their time to read comments on a post, they care enough about the sport to maybe want to join a sim league. We could also use donation money that isnt being used to upgrade the forum to buy promos with popular accounts and channels on youtube as well. I remember the VHL doing one with a very popular NHL youtuber an I don't see why we couldn't do the same.

19) Your player or team made big headlines in the news this week. What did they do, and why did it garner so much attention? + 2.5 TPE

Fitted Cuddles, new running back prospect who has declared for the DSFL draft that will be taking place sometime next week, has been turning heads in the scouting combine and pre-draft training camps as well as workouts. The young powerback has made a name for himself with his hard work in the training room and the exponential growth of his play in such a short time. He has added so much speed, strength, and agility before the draft. Before these training camps, Cuddles was seen as a potential role player on a team, but definitely not a starting running back. However, given the proper equipment and coaching, Cuddles has shown that he has the work ethic and the ability to potentially be a true starting running back in the IFSL, and already looks to be able to cause some serious damage for whatever DSFL team decides to draft him. With so many big name players in the DSFL draft, it is undoubtable that Fitted Cuddles will fall in the draft, but this might be a great thing for DSFL teams looking for a late round steal. His work ethic and skill could inject some much needed offense for a team that has struggled at the running back position.

RE: (S27) Ultimus Week - Goat_Whisperer - 03-09-2021

19) Your player or team made big headlines in the news this week. What did they do, and why did it garner so much attention?

Yellowknife Wraiths made big headlines by organizing a community sacrificing ritual. The idea behind it was to please the sim gods. All the fans, players, and staff members who wanted to take part brought with them something they wanted to sacrifice. The items and objects that were sacrificed varied. Popular options were a favorite item of clothing, a record they liked, food was also sacrificed, someone even brought their favorite lawnmower. Point was that the items were supposed to mean something to the person. Whether sim gods accepted the sacrifices and are willing to show kindness in the future is something we will not know for a while.

Members of the media and people who heard about the sacrificing were generally understanding. Naturally, some did not understand the point of it, they considered such methods to be old-fashioned and a waste of resources.

Yellowknife Wraiths organization released a press statement shortly after the sacrificed items were burned.

''Thank you for helping the Yellowknife Wraiths organization today. For whatever reason, the sim gods were not kind to us this year, but I have full confidence that it will change next year. That is because you all sacrificed something important to you. That is something that can't go unnoticed by the gods''. (210)

21) What team do you think has the best branding in the league? What team do you think could use a refresh? Why?

I really like Philadelphia Liberty as a brand. Philadelphia is a historical city with the Liberty Bell and everything, so it only makes sense that the football team pays homage to the historical point of view and everything that the Liberty Bell stands for.

The colors of the logo and branding are ''patriotic'', red, white, and blue. You can also see stars in the logo. Everything goes well together, the brand is clean and easy on the eyes. I like it.

All the brands are pretty solid in my honest opinion, so it's hard to find one that could really use refreshing. Still, if I need to pick one. Chicago Butchers could be a potential candidate purely because they are called ''Butchers''. That is an aggressive and violent name compared to other team names around the league that seem to be about animals. Or is that the point? Butchers are there to take care of animals?

Either way, the name ''Butchers'' brings bloody and ''negative'' pictures to your mind, which might not be ideal when you think about marketing the brand to fans.

Is Chicago as a city and area known for its butchers? If that is the case, I don't think the name needs to be changed, but some general refreshing around the logo and colors could be a decent alternative.

T2:
15) Write about another sim league you are in and which parts of it you enjoy. If you are only in the ISFL, write about your ideas for a sim league with another sport.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For those of you who don't know, I am part of the PBE, or Pro Baseball Experience. What it is, is it's a baseball simulation league, in which you create a baseball player, choose from any archetype and position, and make your way from the Minor Leagues (commonly abbreviated to MiLPBE) to the Majors, and eventually to the PBE Hall of Fame. So basically ISFL but with a different sport. Our engine we use is Out of the Park Baseball 21, or OOTP21. It's a very fun league, and I could go on an on about the PBE, but perhaps I should start with how I got into it.
I had started the sim league after trying Out of the Park Baseball 20 when I had EA Origin Access, and was looking for a career mode. Little did I know that OOTP doesn't have a create-a-player league mode, and I was understandably disappointed. However, after a quick Google search, I found a post from the PBE on the OOTP forums website. Intrigued, I created a starting pitcher, named after me IRL, Tim Galvin. My jersey number was the same jersey number I had in high school when I played adaptive sports, number 13. Over time, my nickname became Lucky Number 13. I had created just after the Minor League teams' draft picks had already been picked, and was claimed on waivers by the Kansas City Hepcats (it's funny how these things work out, considering I was claimed, on waivers, by the Kansas City Coyotes, here in the ISFL). We made the post-season, eventually winning the Minor League World Series (if the Yotes win the Ultimini, it will be both times that I was claimed on waivers by a Kansas City team in two different sim leagues that won their leagues' respective developmental leagues' championship). That was in Season 18. I was then drafted 4th overall in the S19 Majors Draft by the New Orleans Rougarous (if I get drafted 4OA by NOLA here, I will be amazed). I then finished up my remaining two seasons with the Hepcats, and got called up to NOLA in S21.
After failing to reach an extension on my contract with NOLA during my rookie season (they wanted to keep me in the pen for four seasons, I said no), I got traded to the Detroit Demons, where I currently play as a Reliever, after switching my position and archetype after breaking several Demons team records. I really enjoy how realistic it is, and how challenging it is for pitching. But most of all, I love the podcast I do with my co-host and teammate, Kyle Bellinger Jr.

26) Your team has made it to the playoffs! Put together a pre-game playlist and explain how those songs will hype your players.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Since the Coyotes made it to the Ultimini, here is my pre-game playlist.
a) This may be a bit premature, but in case we win, my playlist includes We Are the Champions by Queen. This song is simple. If we win, we are the champions.
b) A Good Song Never Dies by Saint Motel. Even if we don't win, I really like this song, after hearing parts of it in MLB The Show 20, I fell in love with it. It's true, a good song never dies. We made it to the Ultimini, and even if we don't win, our song will never die.
c) Granted by Josh Groban: I really enjoy this song. It's uplifting, inspirational, and a jam to listen to. We take things for granted in life. But, as one of the lyrics says, if you have a dream, go chase it. We had a dream of making the Ultimini this year, and we chased it and made it, after going from 2-7 to 7-7, and beating Portland in the conference game. Now, we face the Birddogs in the Ultimini tonight.
d) Finally, we have We Will Rock You by Queen. This is the quintessential sports song, since it is played at nearly every sports game I've been to. Plus, it's a dope as heck song.
(219 words)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
18) If you could cast your team in a video game or TV show, what would that look like? Would they be voice actors in a game or cartoon, actors in a funny sitcom, or maybe key players in a reality tv show?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I would cast the Coyotes in a sitcom called Fear the Howl. Basically, it would follow along the veins of How I Met Your Mother and The Big Bang Theory, where it follows the adventures of the team as they get into all sorts of mischief in Kansas City. From forgetting to order pizza for the ISFL watch party to going drinking and Smyth failing to ask a girl out, it would be funny. Our biggest rival on the show would be a nerd squad called the Birddogs, and in several episodes, the Birddogs would always get the upper hand, aside from one episode where Smyth steals the Birddogs' leader's girlfriend after having her realize just how much the Birddogs suck (nothing against the Birddogs in the DSFL, of course). In the series finale, the Birddogs and the Coyotes would face each other for one final brawl, with the Coyotes barely winning against the Birddogs. It would last several seasons, eventually ending in the S27 finale, appropriately titled "The 'chip". Overall, it would be a funny story of teamwork, bravery in the face of the unknown, and why it is important to root for the underdogs. If it were real, I could see it getting plenty of viewers.

TASK 16

Ah yes, the great Sim League to IRL Money exchange. Now, if this were to happen in real life, I'd have about 9.3 Million US Dollars at my disposal. This is a copious amount of bread. A large amount of drip, dare I say. However, I want to be responsible with my money here. First, (and it pains me to say this), I'd unsubscribe from Dotts. Dotts is costing me almost $500,000 USD a day, and thus, it must be neutralized. Now that that's out of the way, I'll save for a while. I'll grind media, graphics, and capitalize on any Double Media/Graphics opportunities so that I can aquire the most drip. My main goal is to earn at least 75 million ISFL monies before I withdraw everything and essentially start over in my ISFL career. But of course, that is the price to pay. After earning 75,000,000 in ISFL, that'd be around $37.5 million USD. I'd put half the money in savings and then blow the other half on whatever the fuck I want. Do you want to know why? Because I can! I just spent a few months of my life sitting on my ass and playing fake football. You don't actually think I'm going to be a fully responsible adult, right? So yeah. Basically my plan is to axe Dotts, grind, withdraw it all from ISFL, put one half in savings and then blow it all off.

TASK 21

BRANDING! Oh boy, when someone even mentions branding, I shit myself out of excitement (Kidding. Metaphorically, of course.) But for real, I love branding. And I genuinely think that if you have bad branding, then your team is shown in a terrible light until you're able to fix that branding. Hell, I might make a ISFL Logo Tier List just because of this gosh-dang PT! But yeah. My favorite ISFL branding at the moment is the one, the only... Honolulu Hahalua! Yes, I gotta say- the Hahalua has some of the best branding out there. Not only are the colors absolutely incredible, but the name itself ties back to Honolulu. Overall, the cultural impact of the Hahalua name is great. It ties back to Hawai'i itself. The branding is both significant to the city itself, and really damn good. As stated before, the dark blue and light yellow contrast to make something truly special- and not to mention the fact that the logo, uniforms, and helmets are just some of the best. That whole brand is a sight to behold, and it helps that they're studs this season. Some close runners up for me are the Orange County Otters (nice alliteration and good colors but idk how otters connect to the city) and the Sarasota Sailfish (pretty much the same thing as the Otters, also #FireFrolf)

TASK 26

Music is a great motivator... and sometimes, you need a little motivation. As the official playlist curator of the Portland Pythons, I have worked tirelessly to put together an incredible playlist to hype up our team. It will be a legendary playlist. It will be possibly one of the best of all time. It will be the Season 27 Snek Hype Playlist. Now, the actual playlist has around 20 songs on it, so I'll be going over my top 2 songs on there...

1997 DIANA- BROCKHAMPTON: BROCKHAMPTON is probably my favorite band under the sun right now. They have a wide variety of songs, from your chill and happy ones (like BOY BYE and SUGAR), your sad and gloomy songs (like DEARLY DEPARTED), and your aggressive songs (like HEAT and JUNKY). Give the songs I mentioned a listen, they're incredible. But anyways, 1997 DIANA is an incredible hype song. It's short, sweet, and really does hype you up immensely.

Shimmy- Amine: Amine is also one of my favorite artists at the moment. He has a lot of great songs, and a lot of great motivational songs... but this one stands out. He hypes himself up so that you feel hyped up, if that makes sense. He talks about how it's HIS year... and that makes you want to make it YOUR year. Just like it'll be OUR year to win the Ultimini!
