RE: (S28) PT1 - Draft Day - zaynzk - 03-29-2021 its been quite a few seasons since i have been drafted at this point; we are gearing up for my 4th season in New York and while im still quite young and got a long time before i even start to consider hanging up my boots its fun to look back at my draft. i was not expected to go high; there were rumors of a few teams i thought i was going to end up on. San Jose, was one of the teams that let me know that they were going to pick a saftey in this class and would likely pick one at the end of the 2nd; i kinda knew that i would likely not be the player they selected at this spot so i was unsurprised when they picked Xmus Flaxon Jaxson-Waxon, he was a great user; and still is and while he left San Jose; he obviously was a good choice at this pick. The Next spot i thought i might go to is Colorodo at 37th overall; however they traded up to 29 for SDCore; when i saw the trade up I knew i would likely be looking at another team. The next place i thought i would end up going to was Honolulu; however another Birddog Safety Lionel Rumper also was falling; and Honolulu took him. They might have some buyer remorse on that pick, as Rumper went IA without a single snap played for Honolulu while im still around. I was suddenly in a spot were i had no idea were i would go; i though OCO could possible with their two picks and a need at DB; but they picked Bronco Mills. After that name was called I figured Yellowknife at the top of the 4th or if that didnt happen Austin would likely snag me since they had seen me the most in the dallas locker room. What i didnt expect was that New York decided to make a "slight reach" for me taking me in the 3rd rather than the 4th round spot the GM's told me i would likely go in. I could not have been happier with how my time in new york has gone. I can almost guarantee that i would not be a GM in SJS, Colorodo, Honolulu, OCO, Yellowknife, or Austin, but in New York i was able to rise through the ranks and help prove Woelkers and Westy's decision to take me early right. 400 words cause I got invested in my memories of that day haha RE: (S28) PT1 - Draft Day - Arvot - 03-29-2021 My last draft experience was being taken in the Season 25 ISFL draft by Sarasota Sailfish at pick 68 in the 5th round, immediately after Teddy Utterstruzen. I was sent back down to the DSFL to cook for a little while and spent another season at the London Royals. The following off-season the Sarasota Sailfish would trade me away for a 3rd round pick to New Orleans and choose to keep a hold of Teddy Utterstruzen, the player they took one place before me in the draft. From that moment on, Utterstruzen and I were in a race. Now I'm not sure Teddy knew about this, but nothing motivates me more than proving someone wrong. Like a jilted ex-lover I doubled my efforts to show Sarasota what they were missing. They would live to regret trading me away. I have been trying to catch up with Utterstruzen ever since, and this season I finally managed it as I overtook them for the first time. I'm going to keep pushing my advantage and try to catch the top guys from my draft class, but I am way behind. This is my first ever sim player and so I had a slow start, but now I'm hooked and I'm coming for you all. I want to be clear that I don't hate the Sailfish or Utterstruzen. I am grateful they drafted me and I wish the team and the player all the best. Just know that you are my mortal enemy and I spend every waking second plotting my revenge. The S22 ISFL draft is still the largest in the history of the league at this point and I expect that fact to hold true for a while yet. While in the preceding DSFL draft Magnus went tenth overall to the Norfolk Seawolves at the ISFL level he went second overall to the New Orleans Second Line who traded a fair amount to move up to second overall in the draft with the intention of drafting Magnus. That was the team that I most wanted to go to by far and is still a team full of wonderful people who I quite appreciate. Admittedly the reasons I had for wanting to go there then are also in part the reasons why we left, but I am still immensely grateful for the time I spent in New Orleans. Being drafted there they lived up to every expectation I had and then some. Now I expected to be drafted there within reason as I was only somewhat jokingly told by one of the general managers of the team that if Magnus was available when they went to pick that it was a sure thing. My scouting experience with the other general manager of the team was also better than any I had with the rest of the league at that point. Overall that was where I felt I was most wanted and by extension was where I most wanted to be in the league. Thankfully they were able to make that happen and Magnus got to serve on the defensive line of the Second Line for several good seasons. Some great people came out of that class, and I'm really happy and really sad that I was in that class, mainly because there are so many max earners that I can't wrap my head around it, as well as there are so many max earners my player isn't that great compared to the others in the class, but I digress. There was some stuff swirling around about me going to a couple of different teams, but the ones that I could see myself going to the most were either Yellowknife or Honolulu. Yellowknife had a gaping hole in the RB spot as Hanyadi was trying out free agency, so many people mocked me heading up north to be his replacement. That put me over the moon personally, as I hadn't really seen myself going that high in a draft since I went 24th (I think) overall in the DSFL draft that season. However, Hanyadi announced that he would resign with Yellowknife, so I was prepping myself to go to Honolulu, or frankly, any team, cause honestly, I had no genuine clue where I would go. But, at the end of the day, Honolulu would pick me up in the third round of the draft, where I stay to this day. I am really happy that I am with this team, and I wouldn't trade going here for an Ultimus any time. Though we will win an Ultimus, watch out ISFL! Whether due to the machinations of fate, panic or greed I ended up in a team that already had enough coverage at Linebacker, with a team who's sole scouting meeting with me consisted of them saying "You know a player we already know right?" and me saying "Yes." So you can't imagine my surprise when my name got called on draft night that I'd be landing there. What followed was concentrated mediocrity. A season of doing absolutely nothing as I played 50% of the snaps with an equal TPE linebacker doing neither of us any favours followed by being asked to play out of position which I granted, a decision which almost cost me an award nomination a season later upon going to a competent team. I'd like to speak more favourably on my draft experience, I really would, but frankly it's the closest I've come to going inactive and I wouldn't wish it on Zamir and he's a dink. RE: (S28) PT1 - Draft Day - dude_man - 03-29-2021 Cade Williams was selected in the S28 ISFL draft, 13th overall to the New Orleans Second Line. Compared to the DSFL draft, which Cade was picked 42nd there, it was an amazing change and felt like I had made progress within the league. It can be a difficult journey with so many new users, many really amazing in their own right, to become a 1st round pick. I had longed for Cade to be in the first round at least for the DSFL, but as picks were announced left and right, reality settled in and I realized I would have to wait a but for my name to be called. And nothing against Tijuana or anything, but it was a sad moment for me to realize that teams didn’t value me as high as I thought, especially with different conversations with some teams. But when the ISFL scouting period opened up, I knew that TPE gains and user likeability was even more so important, and it was a bigger opportunity to make sure this would not play out the same. Cade made sure to be very professional and be available to all teams. He would even be more active in different discords and even make more money than ever before. As the ISFL draft was announced, I figured myself to be a late 1st round pick, which was still what I hoped for. When NOLA was being announced for their pick, I felt that that was my last chance to go to a team in the 1st round. I felt that I connected to the GM’s as they both were in Tijuana my rookie year, and when I had heard Cade’s name with the 13th overall pick, it was a feeling I will never forget. He finally made it. |
