RE: (S28) PT 3 - What If? - Opera_Phantom - 04-13-2021 Looking at this season DSFL Draft, Jay Cue Jr. was taken 1st overall by the Norfolk Seawolves. At this point it is a bit complicated to see what kind of difference it would be made if he was taken later on, but one thing is for sure, i would not be playing with shadyshoelace (Dante King), which means that Norfolk would not have the strongest rookie RB duo in the league. So what would happen is that instead of sharing a lot of carries, they would probably be shining individually a lot more, as Cue Jr. would be on a completely different team. It is hard to tell what kind of difference it would make for both the duo of Norfolk and Shady vs whatever team drafted Cue Jr. and the player, but i am certain that Norfolk running game would be different. On the other hand, in the Season 18 draft, the Liberty were very interested in drafting Cue QB, but were left in the desert when the Arizona Outlaws picked him at 18 overall. So instead of leading Arizona for a long time, Cue could have been in Philly for that time. Maybe he could have helped them in getting better results. Something that comes to mind is the signing of a regressing CB by baltimore seasons ago, when Butters and Star were the GM. The signing was important for two reasons. The first reason is that it wasn’t a one season signing, but for multiple seasons. The second was the stipulations in place for the contract, specifically that it required him to start, at least in certain formations, not to mention he had to be the main punt returner. This backfired because, well, he was deep into regression, meaning that his TPE dropped drastically. You can see the issue when your starting CB and kick returner has low TPE. What happens next is kind of murky, as it’s hard to tell what happened and why. This CB started not showing up as often on kick returns, and it ends up that he isn’t being started on kick returns. As well, he complains that he isn’t a starting CB. What was found out is that apparently, though I have suspicious, that it was a simming issue for the KR part and he was meant to start, and Butters claims that he actually is starting, despite him not really being involved in many plays. It’s hard to tell exactly what happened, but it ends up seeming as though Baltimore is putting him in a tough situation by violating his contract. The punishment for violating a contract is a voided contract, and nobody wanted to pick up a regressing low TPE CB, so either he had to stay with the team breaking his contract, or be forced to retire. The reason this is so significant is that the CB ended up complaining to HO, which might have been the spark for the investigation into Butters leading to his removal as GM. RE: (S28) PT 3 - What If? - ZootTX - 04-13-2021 In case it isn’t obvious, the TX at the end of my user name stands for Texas, which is where I am from and have lived my entire life. This is how deciding to include that in my username changed the course of my career here! For those that don’t know or don’t remember, the Season 21 DSFL draft was enormous. As a Reddit draft during the beginning stages of quarantine, 271 players were created and were eligible to be drafted. In addition, two DSFL expansion teams, the Dallas Birddogs and London Royals, had just been added to the league. As not only a new player, but a new sim leaguer altogether, I was kind of overwhelmed and not a very attractive prospect. I believe I had a whopping 57 TPE on my DSFL draft card (and like 91 on my ISFL one.) In fact, only one team reached out to me during scouting: the Dallas Birddogs, and it was because they were a Texas team and I had TX at the end of my user name. Sure enough, in the 21st round of the draft, with the 161st pick, the Dallas Birddogs selected Zee Rechs. Had I not been drafted by such a great team, who knows what would have happened. Would I have gone IA? Maybe. But that’s not what happened, and here I am. 227 words RE: (S28) PT 3 - What If? - Cody - 04-13-2021 My biggest “what if” is easily if I had not suggested to @"punter715" to apply for the GM position in Philadelphia. When we first entered the league, we had discussed at one point wanting to run a team together but did not think it would happen so soon. It was prior to the start of my third season, and I was traded out of Baltimore to help run the Liberty. If Pat had not applied for and received the GM position, I am not entirely sure what would have taken place. I would have been entering my second season in Baltimore. I had a decent rookie season there and was potentially looking at joining the War Room in another season or two as I was ready to take a role in scouting. With the regime change in Baltimore in S27, I do not believe I would have re-signed there as it would have been tough to jump into a full rebuild. I would have opted to test out free agency and see what opportunities were available to me. Pat and I had talked about becoming a Free Agent duo, so perhaps we would have gotten a sweet deal from a team looking for a championship push. You just never know how one decision will work out. RE: (S28) PT 3 - What If? - Bayley - 04-13-2021 Imagine if the first few seasons did not have Arizona Outlaws absolutely destroying everyone? Imagine if there was not a huge scandal because of that that made me hate @iamslm22 . Would I still hate him today? Would there have been any Sherlock in the league giving mysterious information from an account that was not verified on the board? Would there have been a Head Office member that was named to Head Office only to punish that fucker and then leave Head Office? What would the landscape be like? What would be different? Would people even remember that? Would people even like milk still? That is a great question that we really are not sure about. Would we know about shirtless former Head Office members that @AW13 adores? I think there are so many questions that we honestly are not sure about. How would have everything changed? How would this league be like today? I think this is a really fun thing to look at and see what would be really different. From someone who has been here pretty much since S3, it is very interesting to see what would it be like. Records would have changed, so I think that is pretty much a given. I appreciate you reading, have a great day. Words: 213 RE: (S28) PT 3 - What If? - Alcott - 04-13-2021 So the two options I could revisit would be for the DSFL draft and reimagine my first year in the league or to swap the ISFL draft that just happened and speculate what would be going on right now. I think I'll take the easier route and pick the DSFL draft to "What If" seeing as hindsight is 20/20. I was picked by Dallas at the 28th spot, so the before and after possibilities would be the Minnesota Grey Ducks at spot 27 or the Norfolk Seawolves at spot 29. This is interesting in that the Ducks selected safety Tim Soulja at spot 27 and the SeaWolves selected Kelvin Harris (shout out to my Jakarta teammate) at spot 13, so the spot that would make the most logical sense would be the Ducks as Tim's replacement instead of a third safety on Norfolk's team. The season would be different in that I would no longer be on the Ultimini champion Dallas team, but would probably have performed more similarly in stats to what Tim put up, so the question would be do I want to trade team success for greater personal success, and would that have actually made a difference in where I got drafted in the ISFL draft? I wouldn't take that deal as I like the hardware more than the glory, plus I really don't think it would have made a difference in the draft position that landed me on the Yeti in the second round (fun fact, Tim Soulja was once again selected one pick ahead of me in the ISFL draft too, weird right?) RE: (S28) PT 3 - What If? - IceBear32 - 04-13-2021 What if? As a rookie I don't have a long career to look back and wonder how things would have been different. One of the biggest questions I have is my team and the experience we have in the locker room. I often wonder what my situation might be if drafted by a different team. Does each locker room have the same channels? I would hate to lose the Grey Duck Food Channel. This locker room has been great but the biggest push I've gotten is from a friend of mine beginning this process with me and us being drafted to the same team. This has helped when thing were a bit overwhelming getting set up and as we find out feet in the league. It has been fun to help create some different media together and start our own reviews that we do with the different stadiums. Being drafted together has allowed us to really embrace the experience and get a lot more involved than I think either of us would have been if we did it alone. I hope as we continue our career we are still able to stay connected, but the building of our own Ultimate Fan Experience-ence-ence-ence will allow us to remain together no matter what the ISFL has in store for us. I feel like, with a slight tweak to the drafting process my player would be in an entirely different situation however. I started my player as a safety through and through, but I offered all of the GMs I interviewed with the option of moving me to a position that was of need for them. Because of this, I ended up as a running back for the Portland Pythons, and was eventually drafted to be a Tight End for the New Orleans Second Line. With even slightly altered trajectory I could have ended up in a number of different roles with a team. Where I am now, though, is great. I landed in Portland and immediately hit the ground running (both as a player and a user), and I could not be happier with it. I am excited to see how it ends up in the ISFL as well, who knows what that has to bring! The other change would be Southpaw leaving as GM of the Pythons – I think he single handedly ruined the season because all of our players were so sad with his departure that we lost in the second round of the playoffs. We most definitely would have won if he didn’t decide to abandon us. 229 words ![]() ![]() Remus Roman |
