Certainly can! sorry for getting to this so late

#2 is writing style. We found that when comparing the users with articles they wrote up, there was common idiosyncratic features between them, formatting things like a ellipsis with a space, or using dashes instead of commas, things you wouldn't even think about when you write/type, that was seen across multiple articles from the users. Also, whilst not pivotal evidence or extremely reliable, we also used a writing analysis website/software to compare pieces, and they had an above average rate of similarity (meaning more likely to be written by same person).

#3 was the statistical analysis software. I tried looking quickly but i couldn't find the name of it in our discussion about this, so maybe someone else can chime in with it later, but essentially it is that both accounts were using the same software to make their tables/graphs and have their data.

Both of these points is most certainly circumstantial evidence at best, but when you pile on these points with factors like the IP address, it just adds more layers and examples of ways to call out a multi.

RE: Roly/wonderful_art/Levels Multis - Peterson - 04-18-2021

(04-16-2021, 03:43 PM)Swanty Wrote: Hi all,

Multis are defined as 'any user who has multiple accounts on the site, or who has two or more active concurrent players through any means.'

After investigation, we have concluded that the user who was first known as Roly created and operated two other accounts: wonderful_art and Levels. The evidence is based on matching IP addresses between the accounts, though there are other similarities that while wouldn’t be considered evidence on their own, support the conclusion of the IP address matching that these are operated by the same individual.

While none of the three accounts overlapped in terms of forum activity, Levels and wonderful_art’s players are both currently available to be played (though one is a free agent). Wonderful_art was also still in the KC war room at the time of Levels creating a player.

IP Addresses:
Roly and wonderful_art each submitted forum posts with 9 IP addresses in common across 2 different ISPs. Wonderful_art and Levels both registered their accounts with the same IP address and submitted posts from the same one.

Why does a matching IP address indicate a possible multi?

To access the internet, you must have a unique public IP address so that the content you are accessing knows where to send data back to, similar to a postal address. Generally speaking, all devices within the same household or business will share the same public IP address as it is assigned to the router that the internet connection terminates into. As such, no two unique locations can share the same public IP address at the same time, excluding instances where multiple buildings in different locations owned by the same entity are backhauling internet traffic to a single location for filtering/security purposes.

IPv4 has 4,294,967,296 unique IP addresses of which 588,514,304 are officially reserved for various purposes. This leaves us with 3,706,452,992 possible unique public IP addresses, or a 1/3,706,452,992 chance of sharing the same public IP address with a random person. Knowing this, we can conclude that sharing 1 public IP address with a random person is extremely unlikely, but sharing 9 different IP addresses across multiple ISPs (Internet Service Providers) is simply not possible.

Other Similarities:
  • Despite wonderful_art not posting since December 2020, their last forum login came 7 minutes before Levels created their account through the same IP, perhaps as a result of the forum initially auto-logging them in upon loading the site
  • All three users have exhibited very similar writing styles, including certain punctuation quirks that are rarely seen elsewhere
  • Roly and wonderful_art have each submitted articles that include screenshots from the same statistical analysis software
HO contacted Levels on the 29th March to ask more about how they found us. They said that they came through the Madden subreddit post but saved it until now to sign up. Upon asking if they knew anyone else in the league, there was no further reply and they haven’t logged onto the forum since. They were also informed 8 days ago of this impending punishment but there was no reply.

As is standard with any multi accounts (previous examples can be found here and here), wonderful_art and Levels will be permanently banned and their players, Arthur Naught and Aye Plus immediately retired and removed from the sim. The user’s original account, Roly, will receive a 1 season forums suspension (expiring June 11th) and a 3 season suspension on holding any league jobs (expiring October 1st). Once this first suspension is complete, Roly is welcome to return and create a new player if he so wishes.

Feel free to reach out to anyone in ISFL/DSFL HO if you have any questions on this.

Alright let me learn you all something.... I work for an ISP, every single modem connected has the same default Connection IP to the CMTS...

This "IPv4 has 4,294,967,296 unique IP addresses of which 588,514,304 are officially reserved for various purposes. This leaves us with 3,706,452,992 possible unique public IP addresses, or a 1/3,706,452,992 chance of sharing the same public IP address with a random person. Is incorrect unless you have a business account with your ISP specifically paying for a static IP the chance that the IP is closely similar within 2 to 3 octives is normal. Therefore your arguement about close IPs is bullshit.
