I believe that people will be surprised at the yardage & scoring the wide receiver corps on the Hawks will put up this season. Having Trey Willie & Stormblessed was already a solid pair of offensive threats but with the addition of Alexandre LeClair via trade in the off-season and the drafting of John Wachter this offense has more targets than the opposition can handle. Last season, both Willie & Stormblesed crossed the 1000 yards in the season. Back in season 3, LeClair did it convincingly on a weak Las Vegas Legion team. Last season, Wachter did it on his DSFL team.

The point is, with all these targets able to catch & run from all over the field, as they cover 3 different archetypes of receiver, any single one of them could be the primary receiver at any point in the game. This will make the job of the opposing defense a nightmare to contend with week after week after week.

When people talk offense, they often comment on the Wraiths and the Otters and their high-powered offense. My surprise of the season will be seeing the Hawks at the top of the offensive charts by the end of the season.

I think the Tijuana Luchadores are going to be a surprise this season. Tijuana definitely surprised a lot of people last season. They were pretty good last season with a great midseason run and were absolutely dominating for a good stretch of the DSFL season and they have an even better group of players this year. Brian Mills and Elvin Enchant are going to be nightmares for offenses and they are both going to be stud linebackers once the TPE gets rolling in. They also got Lil Bot who will run the ball really well for them along with the return of Sidney Spinelli. Together, they’ll probably get a lot of carries while their quarterback waiver pick up Arbin Asipi, Jr. gets up to snuff. New quarterbacks have a rough time starting out so they’ll need Bot and Spinelli to hold up the offense until Asipi can get going with his passing game. Overall, I think the Luchadores will get at least 9 wins with their group of guys and become the top team in their division. They’ve got a solid group of players and are going to make a big splash this season with all of their successful picks in the S5 DSFL draft.

My pick for a surprise is Budda Browning. Browning entered the league in Season Three, having declared as a quarterback for the draft. With Clifford Rove and Nicolas Pierno already available at the position, Browning fell to the sixth round before being drafted by the Philadelphia Liberty. Given his athleticism, he decided to convert to wide receiver, playing in what has been one of the worst offenses of the past two seasons. Being new to the position and catching passes from a rookie QB, Browning managed only 311 yards and 2 touchdowns his rookie season, enough for 30th in the league. Multiple TEs and RBs actually put up more yards and touchdowns. His second year, he improved drastically, having worked out the fundamentals. He racked up 820 yards and 4 TDs, good enough to move all the way up to 13th in yards. Again, that was with Clifford Rove, who was also still on a sharp learning curve. Come the offseason, the Liberty made a bold trade that brought in Josh Garden to be an upgrade for Rove, and sent Browning to the Arizona Outlaws. Browning will now have King Bronko as his quarterback and will be promoted from #3 receiver on the team to #1.

Think of the great quarterbacks in this league: Mike Boss, King Bronko, Mat Akselsen... Now add a new one. How's Avon Blocksdale sound? A season removed from S4, where he was in the discussion as a top 3 QB, Avon will continue to improve with a far superior supporting cast in S5. The additions of Alexandre LeClair from the Legion and John Wachter from the draft, combined with the retention of Trey Willie and Owen Taylor make the Hawks offense beyond potent. Aside from maybe the Otters, I'm not sure any team can rival the amount of talent on the offensive side of the football, and that's before even mentioning an ever improving offensive line.

His improvements were already seen in week one, where despite suffering a loss, he put on an absolute show. He spread the ball around to five different pass catchers in route to over 400 yards. Despite only throwing for a single score, his even distribution saw 3 of his receivers go for at least 98 yards.

With another year under his belt at the position, and the off-season acquisitions made to help support him, Avon Blocksdale will be taking a huge leap this season into the elite (What is it with Baltimore QBs and that word?) category of quarterbacks.

The biggest surprise for the league is going to be the just how far the Colorado Yeti have come in a short time. We’ve got a lot good guys in the locker room, and it really looks like our draft picks are going to be studs. Besides myself (Carlito Crush) doing his best to become the top TE in NSFL History, we also have Andre Bly, Jr, who may be a shoe-in for rookie of the year. We’re both in a race for 400 TPE and doing everything we can to help our team. Not to be forgotten, Michael Tillman deserves a nod at Safety too. He’s super active and he’s pushing the 200 TPE barrier as we speak. As the GMs figure out how to use the enigma that is Pierno better, the Yeti will keep improving. We had a goal of 3-4 wins this season, and if our Week 2 loss to the defending champions is any indication, we’re going to get there. We were just a few plays (and the sim being smart enough to use timeouts when we needed them) away from beating OCO, only losing 20-17 in a game where people expected a blowout. Once the bounces start going our way, people will truly be surprised. Even though we’re 0-2, I don’t think that 4-10 is out of the question. (225)

PT -3 Suprises

There are two pending surprises in the NSFL, one a player, and the other a team which will rise up from the ashes of forgotten non playoffs. On the Otters, Ryan Sierra has lit a fire under the Otters defensive front seven players, already registering two sacks as his first game as a rookie! To make this fact more impressive, Sierra was playing offensive line instead of his heavier defensive tackle position he currently enjoys. The Otters entire team has been leaning on the defense in recent weeks, as boss has hit a streak of inaccuracy, but the defense have come out to play! With nine sacks in the first game of the season, Sacksonville is back to Orange County.
The team which will ultimately surprise everyone in the national simulation football league is an easy questions to answer, however you come to an unorthodox solution. The NSFC conference winner will ultimately be the league Cinderella, and a surprise to everyone in the league. While the Yellowknife Wraiths are currently the preseason favorites to win the division, the NSFC could go to any of the four teams which make up the division. There has to be a winner, and the only certain fact among the NSFC conference teams is, one of them will ultimately become the winner in the end.

I think myself, Bobby Muthafuckin’ Ruckus, will be the biggest surprise of the DSFL season. I got picked in the 8th round and 31st overall and no one wanted to take a chance on me like Portland did. They started talking to me right when I made a character on the site and I was psyched as fuck that they drafted me since I’m a vet to sim leagues and I came out of nowhere. I’ve been working on almost every point task I can get and doing everything I can when I have time. I haven’t missed an update yet and I think I’ll surprise everyone since I’m a safety and the only active safety at that from this draft. I’m going to make a huge difference on defense even though I was going to be a quarterback. Pythons said they’d help me switch back to quarterback later if they needed it and I’m pretty much cool with whatever at this point. I got my speed, agility, and strength up already and I’m ready to keep tackling fools throughout the season and become the best defensive back the DSFL has ever seen. I’ll be the biggest surprise of the season!

Written: Must include 200 words. The season is finally starting after weeks of waiting and by far the longest off-season we've had. Write about a team or player that will surprise everyone whether it's a good surprise or a bad surprise.

The biggest surprise of the season will be Clifford Rove. After 2 seasons of struggle the young QB will finally break out and become a top QB in the league. He has the best setup he’s ever had, with the Liberty replacing opting to send young stud WR Budda Browning to the Outlaws, in a trade that included what many consider the best WR in the league, Josh Garden. He’s already gotten off to a great start, with a game against the Legion that saw him throw for 5 TDs, and a game against the Wraiths where he threw for 2 more. In the first 2 games of the season he has posted a 95.1 Passer rating, has 7 TDs and 3 interceptions, completed 48 of 85 passes, and thrown for 678 yards. He’s had a great start to the season, even if the team struggled to start strong (again) and has already made use of his new weapon Josh Garden. Garden currently leads the league in TDs with 4 for receivers, with North, DiMirio, and Kroetch all catching another TD for the young QB in Philly. Rove should make the leap this season, or there may be callings of a switch if he does not perform and help the Liberty make the leap to Ultimus contenders. (217 words)

One guy that will be a big surprise for the league is the ninth pick in the season five National Simulation Football League Draft, Michael Tillman. He produced above average stats at Arizona State but missed out on the DSFL draft due to complications in the paperwork. He was picked up on waivers by the San Antonio Marshals and started off well. He finished the season with 2 picks, 2 pass deflections, and more than 50 tackles. He helped the Marshals to their second consecutive Ultimini, but ultimately fell short of the championship to the Portland Pythons. HE made a statement before the draft about how he was always counted out early on, but proved to the doubt each and every time. Once again, he was doubted and fell outside of the first round, Eventually being drafted by the Colorado Yeti at 9th overall. Matthew Vincent, Co-GM of the Yeti had this to say about his draft pick, "Honestly, we weren't even looking at him at 9. we assumed he would go way before that, and I guess we got lucky with our decision. I hope it turns into one of my best decisions of my GM career." IT seems to be working so far as Tillman had a very clutch interception in their game against the Otters that put the Yeti in position to potentially own the biggest upset of the season once again. Tillman will continue to improve and I have no doubt he will be the steal of the Season 5 draft.
