Regression, How would you do it? - AdamS - 01-25-2018 I think 10 is too few for the people who really want to go for it. I agree that everyone staying for 15 is too many though. 15 should be an anomaly. So it seems like maybe the scale should be revisited. Conversations like this are why I'm glad you and Hawk are in there testing the sim. Regression, How would you do it? - timeconsumer - 01-25-2018 (01-25-2018, 07:13 PM)AdamS Wrote:I think 10 is too few for the people who really want to go for it. The primary issue is how many of those seasons will see the player playing at 95% effectiveness. With 7 seasons to rack up 1200+ TPE and really only needing like 600 of it to be really damn good you end up with players just pulling TPE out of endurance and intelligence for the first few seasons of regression before dropping tertiary stats like tackling (only to build it back up during the season) or hands or whatever isn't as useful for their position. By the time they start to drop the primary stats they're down at 300 or so and it's been 13 seasons of high level play. So we either need to start regression earlier or have a very aggressive scale in order to make regression actually hurt before the bitter end. Regression, How would you do it? - SwagSloth - 01-25-2018 As much as a steeper regression will hurt once it kicks in, I can absolutely see good reason to toughen the penalties. I was off to a late start, but even with high activity from my 2nd season onward, I'll probably be playing 12-16 seasons with the current system provided I keep earning TPE at the same rate. That's good for my player, but not for the league. Another major factor with regression is that it may cause players to lose interest. Many will just retire and start a new player once it kicks in as the thrill of becoming better every week goes away. However, others may force themselves to stay out of loyalty to their team even if it causes them to enjoy the league less. The slow decline could potentially cause them to lose interest over time. At least with a punishing system, it will make the message clear that it's time for new players to shine and encourage users to try out a new players, which makes the experience fresh for them once again. Regression, How would you do it? - SwagSloth - 01-25-2018 Another thing to remember, too, is that regression will open up room for equipment, so dedicated players will be stacking +36 TPE on top of whatever else they earn in a season. It's a lot of money to fight regression, but it knocks out at least a few percentage points every season. Regression, How would you do it? - iamslm22 - 01-25-2018 We've been talking about this in an HO thread - just figured I should comment in here too. I agree with SwagSloth about ONLY the first DSFL season not counting to regression. Otherwise you can have a dude just sit in DSFL for four seasons and come out as a total monster. I also like the idea of a harsh regression scale - but I'm not sure if this is too harsh Regression, How would you do it? - timeconsumer - 01-25-2018 (01-25-2018, 11:56 PM)iamslm22 Wrote:We've been talking about this in an HO thread - just figured I should comment in here too. You're looking at it backwards. Stop looking at the scale and start thinking about the seasons. At what point do you think a player should stop being an asset and start being a liability to his team? I designed this around 10 or 11 seasons max for a player's career and built an appropriate system around that. Much softer and it instantly adds 2 more seasons onto a career. The scale looks really brutal without actually analyzing it but when you consider that for a LB like me I can play at a pro-bowl level with only 300 TPE it's not bad at all. I was thinking of it as a QB where you have to be (which is like 500), but I agree with you. |
