(S8) - PT 5 - Rebuild - Dawegg - 06-22-2018 San Jose began its full rebuild this season by trading their franchise cornerback Benson Bayley for a backup CB, a 1st round pick in Season Nine, and an additional third round pick in the same season. The team didn't have any substantial expectations heading into the season, and essentially it was a given that ways to acquire meaningful draft capital must be found, however painful they may be. Some deals that should have been made were not made, but the team was left with at the most, five picks in the first two rounds of the Season Nine draft assuming some trade conditions were met. The team has a franchise quarterback and a great young linebacker to build both sides of the team, but everything else is left open for improvement. This upcoming draft is a pivotal moment in SaberCat history, and all rebuilds need solid players to establish the future foundation and direction of the franchise. The capital is now there to make moves and get this team on track to find itself in competition once again. San Jose has traditionally struggled, but with its first true franchise quarterback things can only improve as the team finds an identity and moves forward with optimism. Quote:Word Count: 205 (S8) - PT 5 - Rebuild - Mongoose87 - 06-22-2018 Let’s talk about the New Orleans Second Line. Last year, they fucking sucked. That’s not very nice, but honesty is more important than politeness, and sugar-coating it isn’t doing them any favors. No point dancing around it, they were 4-10, tied for second-worst with only 304 points for. The only thing that kept them from picking first overall was the Colorado Yeti’s intrepid determination to suck harder than a hoover. Doctor Bovo worked his crazy wizard magic this past offseason and during this season, though, and the Second Line are looking first-rate. A few key moves, as well as the continued progression of retained players have made all the difference. One major addition was the man the aforementioned second overall pick brought in, safety William H Harrison. Adding him rounded out the secondary, and the defense has seen significant improvement. A sneaky move that had a domino effect of repercussions was the addition of running back Darren Smallwood. Smallwood is a shifty back with great vision, good hands and a motor that never stops. He adds a whole new dimension to the offense. More importantly, his presence allowed long time running back Ardie Savea to make the transition to Tight End. This move gives the Second Line a deadly duo of tight ends that make for a real matchup problem. (S8) - PT 5 - Rebuild - Moosecop - 06-23-2018 The San Jose Sabercats are in the early stages of a rebuild already. This season they managed to bring in their quarterback of the future in Brad Pennington, in addition to linebacker Ben Horne on the defensive side of the ball to lead that side back to the top. Still though, they are in need of pieces just about everywhere. Their star safety and GM, Ja Brill, is getting deeper and deeper into the twilight of his career and can no longer be the guy they once leaned on on defense, while the same can be said of the San Jose receiving corps with Shane Weston and Mayran Jackson. Fortunately for the Sabercats, they have the first overall pick in addition to another first rounder that they received from New Orleans in the S9 NSFL Draft which is looking to be stacked with talent. With a ton of options at their disposal, they must decide what they deem to be the biggest positions to build around. Do they add one of the stud runningbacks Marquise Brown or Elijah Lagerfield? Maybe someone young to be Pennington's go-to receiver like Xavier Flash or Vinny Valentine or even Declan Harp at tight end? Or do they try and build around the defense by adding safety Bucky Barnes or Alexandre Thibault? Or provide some help for Horne at the linebacker position with Kolby Deringer, Tyler Griffin, or Barnaby Earl? With a lot of picks and a lot of needs, this draft is an important one for the future of the Cats. The Marshals finished S7 with a poor record and saw themselves taking a first round exit at the hands of the Tijuana Luchadores, their divisional rivals, but through careful trades by their general managers, the team had set themselves up for success in the long run by bringing in key draft picks that would aid them in bringing in stars through the draft. The team chose to progress through their youth rather than attempting to build around veterans, but kept players such as Weathers, Chipmunk, and Catcherman at their core, making an elite unit that could be upgraded. The team added fresh blood like Kevin Fitzpatrick, Marquise Brown and the Marchand Brothers who have been phenomenal, and an outstanding corner back in Oskar Ludvig along with premier talent Bucky Barnes who has been integral to their success. The team is looking to make a deep playoff attempt starting Monday in a rematch of last season's playoffs, while competing against Tijuana once again. Make sure you don't miss it. (S8) - PT 5 - Rebuild - dropbear - 06-23-2018 The Colorado Yeti have had one of the highest profile rebuilds, namely due to the fact that they were the first team to truly require one. The Las Vegas Legion blew up their entire franchise, so they don't quite count. The Yeti, on the other hand, are one of the league's founding franchises, and were the first team to make the championship game, along with the Arizona Outlaws, to whom they would lose that very game. The Yet started their history with back-to-back 8 - 6 seasons, before completely derailing. Since then, there have been multiple failed attempts to kickstart the struggling franchise. It wasn't until they traded away a number of key pieces - Boss Tweed and Carlito Crush to name two of the more high-profile recent ones - that things really kicked off. Though, to be fair, it wasn't an immediate payoff. With picks acquired from those trades, among others, and the draft picks earnt through a number of winless seasons, the Yeti were able to bring in players such as Dwayne Aaron, Ryan Applehort, Howard Miller, and Mark Grau, who, along with long-time contributors Haruki Ishigawa, Antonio Sandoval, Andre Bly Jr., Johnathon Saint, and Michael Tillman, have finally started to actually rebuild the team. The results are finally showing, too, as Season 8 saw the Yeti win 6 games - their most since Season 2. (S8) - PT 5 - Rebuild - Raven - 06-23-2018 Quote:Written: Must include 200 words. The trade deadline saw a stunning chain of events where the defending Ultimus Champions started selling and committing to the rebuild. Write about a team that either has already done that or needs to commit to the rebuild soon. So looking at teams around the league who might need to start thinking a rebuild might be needed in the near future, I woud like to talk about one team. This team being the Baltimore Hawks. The Hawks have missed the last two playoffs and haven't made it to the finals since S4. With S8 almost finished and in an historical low standing for the Hawks it might be the time to look to make some changes. The big part of the rebuild is ofcourse getting rid of the most overrated kicker in kicker history. Turk Turkleton has costed the Hawks game after game, with a big history of missed field goals and completely whiffed extra point attempts it's unclear why the Hawks have yet to drop this kicker who would even look embarrasing in the DSFL. Get a kicker who can actually score points and you will find yourself winning a ton more goals. Trade Turkleton for the pennies you can and turn those pennies into gems. On a competely non rebuild related note the Hawks should seriously consider a rebrand, just to freshen up the team, it would go perfect hand in the hand with the entire rebuild. Rebrand the Hawks to the Griffafes to ensure a perfect rebuild. (S8) - PT 5 - Rebuild - SwagSloth - 06-23-2018 I’m going to come and say what no one else is willing to say. Or at least what I haven’t seen anyone else say given that I haven’t read all of the other responses. So, if nothing else, you know I’m being honest. The New Orleans Second Line… needs to rebuild. Yes, it’s true. This charade has gone on long enough. After four seasons of rebuilding, it is time to start over again. Many might question this logic. After all, you say, they just got done rebuilding. It’s time for them to reap the rewards of that effort. They finally put together a winning season and went 9-5. And that might be good enough for some, but not for this fan. They couldn’t even reach double-digit wins. They’re second to the Otters and on track to miss on their first shot at an ASFC Championship. And, yes, that might be good enough for some, but not for New Orleans. This is a team that knows how to rebuild. They’ve proven that they can do it. So, now, it’s time to do it again. Only better! Trade ALL the players. Acquire ALL the draft picks. Collect ALL the future cap space. Sure, the Second Line can be good today, but they can be great tomorrow. And even greater in S15! It’s time to start building the team of the future… today! 230 Words (S8) - PT 5 - Rebuild - Zoone16 - 06-23-2018 I’d like to think that the Orange County Otters are slated to go on the rebuilding path sooner rather than later. Their core has been aging and within 2-3 seasons from now they’ll be at the point where it would be more beneficial to tear most of the team down and restart from scratch. Guys like Westfield, Phelps, Winchester are all still near, or at, the top of their positional rankings but their dominance has waned and look to slide down. And with how regression is structured in this league, it’s brutal compared to other leagues, it will be hard to compete for more than a few seasons before retooling and/or rebuilding. The main cause for concern in my eyes for the Otters will be finding a new quarterback to take over Mike Boss when he slows down too much. Boss is far and away the strongest QB around and is setting the bar very high for future players at the position. The Otters will have to go with him until he decides to call it quits or eventually move him once they feel another QB can take over for him and get some return for the future hall of famer.
