I’m not picking one favorite pet, because I have two. I’m blessed to have adopted two of the sweetest mutts in Buffalo. My oldest, Bayley, is a Pit-Boxer-Lab-something else mix. She just turned 3 years old on July 10th. She’s a laid back pup, who much rather prefers cuddling and sleeping than she does chasing down balls. Finn is my new-ish puppy. He’s also a shelter mutt who is currently 9 months old. He’s also a Pit-Boxer-Lab mutt, and I’m pretty sure he’s missing a chromosome or two. He’s always smiling, and won’t stop licking you, ever. There isn’t an evil bone in that pup’s body. Whereas Bayley likes to relax, Finn is the opposite. He’s always playing, running around, jumping, chewing on walls when he knows he shouldn’t be, and is just a crazy energetic puppy. I’m not really sure he’ll ever calm down as he gets older. Everywhere he goes, he’s the star of the show. People just love him. My dogs are fantastic, I got really lucky. (170)

Brad Pennington is a tender man despite his rough exterior suggesting anything otherwise. Growing up in the heart of New York City, he had a shih tzu that was probably the greatest dog in the world. Now, shih tzu's aren't exactly outdoorsy or manly dogs, but their loyalty and overall cuteness factor is rarely matched by perhaps anything out there in the world of pets. They are an absolutely fantastic breed. Brad's dog didn't exactly do much in the way of activities or exercise despite being everywhere that Brad went. For some reason it pained his shih tzu to go even five minutes without seeing him. He certainly helped as a conversation starter when meeting girls back in the day. He was a lively companion that had his own personality. Nowadays, he mostly lounges around in his advanced age even if Brad is separated from him the vast majority of the time all the way out in San Jose.

Borkus Maximus III’s favorite pet was Borkus Maximus Jr who was in a lot of ways comparable to the original Borkus Maximus Senior who lived a long and fruitful life after giving birth to Borkus Maximus III and Borkus Maximus Jr (in that order) and while Borkus Maximus Jr is Borkus Maximus III’s pet, Borkus Maximus III is actually the pet of Borkus Maximus VI who is the pet of Borkus Maximus IV who is in turn naturally the pet of Borkus Maximus X who is the pet of Borkus Maximus V who obviously is the pet of Borkus Maximus IX who is the caretakeree of Borkus Maximus VII who succumbs to the care of Borkus Maximus VIII and all of these Borkus Maximuses (or Borkus Maximi) are the offspring of Borkus Maximus and they in turn all take care of one another in very loving and brotherly nice friendly ways.

One of the first things that L'Alto did with his professional contract was to go out and find himself a loyal companion. And by that he means a dog, of course. Throughout college, he wasn't around nearly often enough to care for a pet dog due to the strenuous travel schedule of the NCAA basketball program and his roommates weren't willing to watch a pet (this was amplified by the fact that pets weren't allowed in the student athlete dorms). Prior to attending college, L'Alto and his family couldn't afford to care for one. Now, only traveling on game days and able to provide space to run around, L'Alto enjoys spending time with his pet Dalmation, Ziggy. Ziggy will often come to weekly practices and video sessions with the team. This is in part because he is a joy to have around, but mostly because there are far too many stray dogs in Tijuana that will spell bad news for the lovable pup.

An excerpt from a sit-down with Kolby Deringer on the subject coming up:

Quote:We had quite a few pets over the years in my childhood, though the one I think of that stands out was one we never officially owned.

There was a cat I used to see around the neighborhood when we lived in Slidell. I never did find out her given name or who owned her or if anyone even had owned her, though we called her Sally. She was a stray tortoiseshell cat my siblings and I warmed up to, though our parents never let us keep her out of fear of her carrying disease.

We still loved her and played with her when she came by. We fed her on the sly, despite their warnings not to out of fear of her or us becoming attached, even though that's exactly what happened. We never got any rodent problems around our house, even as the neighbors had a mouse or rat family pop up from time to time.

We couldn't take her with us when Katrina hit.

Among other things that worried my young mind at the time was how Sally fared. We hit a point after some time, we just assumed she didn't make it. The flooding alone caused a lot of damage and the people who did go back, their houses had four to six feet of stagnant water inside. Someone finally did confirm what we feared when one of our old neighbors called to check in with my parents and we overheard Dad talk about her. All I can comfortably say here is it was pretty obvious she was dead. And this was back before smart phones and our parents kept the only camera we had stored out of reach, so we never got a picture of her even for the vigil.

What does uplift my heart about this was the thought we might meet again, once I'm done on this Earth. Popes over time have debated and had their say on whether animals will be in heaven or not. At the very least, the most recent decree from Francis is they will. Maybe I'll get to see her then, among the others who have gone.

Kevin Fitzpatrick had a pet snake when he was a child. Well, it would be more accurate to say that his older brother had a pet snake, a four foot long California King Snake named (in somewhat poor taste) Cuddles. Even though the snake wasn’t that much longer than his arm, Kevin was terrified of it. Unfortunately, when his brother went away on trips, Kevin would have to feed the snake live mice. This would involve picking up a “feeding mouse” from the pet store, which was packaged in a Chinese take out box, only it jiggled as the mouse ran around inside. Then he would empty the mouse into the snake tank and wait, unable to not watch. The weird thing was that sometimes the snake wasn’t hungry enough and would just ignore the mouse. Once the damn thing laid there as the mouse walked over it, which made him kind of want both creatures to die.

Gus T.T. Showbiz is very much a cat lover. The future Orange County Otters quarterback, and current Kansas City Coyote has made a splash with his big NSFL contract by donating to humane societies all through Orange County.

The star QB also did his part by adopting a loving cat, affectionately known as Mrs. Pickles. Gus's former co-workers in the pharmaceutical sales industry can attest to Gus's dedication, as he had to rush off from work to take Mrs. Pickles to the vet. The ladies in the office were heartbroken as they delivered the news that his friend was rushing Mrs. Pickles to the vet to save her. Gus didn't hesitate to take time off to ensure Mrs. Pickles was alright.

Thankfully, Mrs. Pickles made it through, and the two can continue their blissful life together. As another display of his affection and dedication to Mrs. Pickles, Gus keeps a tuft of Mrs. Pickles' fur in his gameday socks for good luck.
