(S9) - PT 5 - Revisiting Expectations - ADwyer87 - 08-09-2018 Well, I just recreated, so I dont have much to say about expectations, but here it goes i suppose. I expected people to leave me alone about signing Bronko. Yeah i know, I've said I plan on retiring early a lot of times, but this time i really meant it. I was unsure about testing regression with my meager TPE earnings, but thankfully it worked out. However, I knew it wouldnt work well next season. With two single season records and not wanting to damage my Hall of Fame resume, I knew what I was going to do. But i still got a lot of people asking if i wanted to sign. I guess I should be flattered, but it got annoying after a while. Like, I said I am retiring please believe me. What special plan do I have for not signing a contract? lol Anyways, for Sunnycursed, I only had two goals. One was to get a reaction from the fact that I parodied an old member of the league, since I basically am only doing it for the lols. That was a success. The second was to play in 4 DSFL games. Sadly I created too late and that dream wasnt realized. (S9) - PT 5 - Revisiting Expectations - Moosecop - 08-09-2018 Coming into the season we all knew we had a long road ahead of us. Arizona had just finished S8 as the 7th best team and knew they still had some rebuilding to do. They grabbed me, Kevin Fitzpatrick, and LaMarcus Strike in the first 2 rounds of the draft so we know that, in addition to fellow youngsters Crindy and Squanch, our future is looking bright. However, coming into the season we still weren't expecting much. The year started better than expected as we lost a close one to the Yeti but then managed to sneak out an OT wing against the defending champion Wraiths. Unfortunately, we would get crushed by the rest of the leagues top dogs, even losing both games to the Liberty, a team everyone thought would be struggling to get even 1 win total. As a whole, it was slightly worse than expected, as we had hoped to possibly go home with at least 4 or 5, but ended up with just 3. On a personal note, I had next to no expectations for myself coming into the season. I thought I was in a bad middle ground where I was too good for the DSFL but not good enough for the big leagues. I ended up proving myself wrong, as I managed to rack up 73 tackles, 4 sacks, 2 interceptions, and 3 pass defenses primarily out of the strong safety role. I'm expecting to be in the DRotY conversation but I don't think it's an award that I'll be adding to my trophy case. (S9) - PT 5 - Revisiting Expectations - Official DT - 08-09-2018 My expectations for the season were to try and get eight interceptions on the season so that I could have the record. It seemed like it was going to be a long shot to achieve that when the final two weeks came along. I had just four interceptions, (one returned for a touchdown) and I had to get four interceptions in order to tie the new record. Now I knew I was confident in my skills but I was not that confident that I would get those final four interceptions that I needed. I managed to get one interception during the first game and after that I was like "There is no way I can get three in the next game." Well I was wrong about that. I managed to grab those last three interceptions in that final game of the season and two of those went back for six points. I was completely shocked to learn that I had gotten those three remaining picks all in one game. I knew coming into the season I needed to get like 1 interception every two games. I thought it would have been easily achievable as I had been putting in the work consistently and I am just glad that all of my hard work paid off. (S9) - PT 5 - Revisiting Expectations - adam2552 - 08-10-2018 This for the most part was a very definitely weird season for the Philadelphia Liberty in a sort of major way. We really had gone into the season expecting to definitely be by far the worst team in the league, we only for the most part have two basically active players on the roster in a particularly big way. Our team literally is generally commanded by journeyman quarterback Logan very Noble in a subtle way. While he actually put up arguably the worst season at the quarterback position in NSFL history, the Liberty somehow particularly managed to win four games and kind of finish with a generally better record than the San Jose Sabercats and Arizona Outlaws. I’m not sure how to basically relate this to my expectations, we won more than I expected, which ultimately was not our goal for this season in a major way. So I specifically am definitely disappointed in that aspect, pretty contrary to popular belief. However, we also definitely saw an inactive below 200 TPE RB for all intents and purposes put up a Pro Bowl season for us and really lead us to four wins. That specifically is fairly promising for our future as we essentially look to generally call up definitely last season’s first round pick, running back Marquise Brown in the near future, or so they basically thought. So that aspect of this season, definitely essentially has me excited for the future and feeling as though this rebuild process might not basically take nearly as for all intents and purposes long as expected, which is fairly significant. The offense and defense were predictably terrible, but not as atrocious as they appear on paper. Legion, Riddick, and a Weston deep in regression put up some decent yardage. It's especially curious that Riddick and Legion did well since they both are below 130 TPE each. Rookie Zapp Brannigan was solid as well and is without question the team's future at tight end. Ben Horne was the defensive rock we thought he would be although the general weakness of the defense made sure that inactive players stole his tackles. Beating the Otters was a decently entertaining high point in the season even if it put us in jeopardy of losing the 1st overall selection in the S10 draft. Where the season starts to seem like a failure to me is that I understand the team lacked decent receiving talent, Brad never took a step forward in the right direction. There wasn't a clear difference between the rookie in S8 and the guy stepping on the field at the end of the season. That's a disappointment despite being forecast at the start of the season. Quote:Word Count: 212 (S9) - PT 5 - Revisiting Expectations - ExemplaryChad - 08-10-2018 At the beginning of the season, I talked about what kind of expectations I had for the Yeti this year. I emphasized the need for us to start being competitive right away. Our window is closing, after all, after we missed on some draft picks in recent years. Fortunately, we did not disappoint. After a win total of six last year, we pulled off an increase this year with eight. Honestly, that’s even better than I was hoping for. What’s even more remarkable, though, is that we’ve earned a playoff berth. It’s our first in many years, and we’ve fought to be here harder than I’ve ever seen this team fight. We won our last three games in order to finish one game ahead of the Wraiths, including winning a game at Yellowknife to clinch our spot. It’s been a fantastic season, and hopefully we can consider winning a part of our team culture from here on out. Personally, I was hoping for a return to form after a disappointing Season 8, but that hasn’t really borne out. I did okay, finishing second on the team in tackles and racking up a respectable seven sacks, but I was outshone by other players around the league. Nevertheless, I would take this season over Season 7 any day. Haruki Ishigawa Word count: 216 (S9) - PT 5 - Revisiting Expectations - 7hawk77 - 08-10-2018 As stated last time, Seer Zephyrous had 0 expectations for this season. Old PT He did end up finishing up his speed training and is now as fast as he can possibly be. He also wasn't really that interested in personal stats. He has been used sparingly by the team and has picked up 20 yards on 5 attempts, with a single touchdown. Not bad for the small usage. He's also picked up 3 pancakes and allowed 0 sacks so he's been doing alright when it comes to blocking schemes. He finds most of what is happening with him in the DSFL to be irrelevant, specifically because he has multiple other RBs on the team that are better at running than he is, and he hasn't really come in to his own for what he means to accomplish. He's hoping that he can continue getting stronger, and increase his ability to make blocks to allow fellow running backs to make plays, or to give the quarterback more time to find an open receiver. He hasn't been drafted in to the NSFL yet so we will have to continue waiting on that expectation. Currently He is more interested in a team that will utilize him in a smart strategy vs. trying to be first overall. 217 words (S9) - PT 5 - Revisiting Expectations - White Cornerback - 08-10-2018 Written: Must include 200 words. Remember at the beginning of the season where you had to talk about the expectations you had for the season. Yeah write about whether those expectations came through, whether you missed the mark, basically how the expectations played out. Heading into the season (Lavelle's 9th) I was expecting 50 tackles, 4 interceptions and about 15/16 pass deflections as that's usually the norm for a cornerback being honest. What I didn't expect was for Lavelle to have easily his best season in a Yellowknife uniform. Lavelle finished out the season with 76 tackles (most in his career, next closest was 74, 4 seasons ago), 8 interceptions (most in his career, next closest was 7, 2 seasons ago) and 28 pass deflections (most in his career, next closest was 20, 5 seasons ago). While Yellowknife slumped to the 3rd spot in the NSFC with a 7-7 record and ultimately were not able to even make an attempt at defending their Ultimus title, Lavelle pretty much balled out and had one of his greatest ever seasons, reminiscent of the recently retired Ian Bavitz's outings or the DSFL legend Isaiah Rashad who still holds the interception records for a single season with 8. Many speculate with Lavelle about to head into his 10th season and with Yellowknife likely on their way down of their spiral, would Lavelle seek greener pastures? The answer to that is no as he has resigned with the Canadian giants for another season. Lavelle's time in Yellowknife is not finished as he continues his quest to 50 career interceptions and beyond. (S9) - PT 5 - Revisiting Expectations - Mongoose87 - 08-10-2018 As far as the regular season goes, The New Orleans Second Line have blown it out of the park. They had by far the best defense, in points allowed, and scored 57 more points than the next-most prolific offense. They lost only two games and won all of the rest. Compared to last season, it's been a great improvement. However, the regular season isn't the point of concern for NOLA. Regular season success is expected. You don't make it all the way to the Ultimus and then expect a pat on the back for being good in the next regular season. No, success begins and ends in the playoffs. When the Second Line face off with the Orange County Otters, it will be them versus total disappointment. An early exit will be nothing short of embarrassment. The Ultimus will be where this team's legacy can be forged. Only if they make it there can Borkus Maximus III prove this regular season isn't meaningless, can Darren Smallwood prove he's not a playoff disappointment, can this stifling defense prove that they do anything but pick on the lowly San Jose Sabercats and Arizona Outlaws. There's no meeting expectations until you meet your challenges. |
