(S9) - Ultimus Week - Kendrick - 08-17-2018 Playoff Series MVP: The Most Valuable Player from the Ultimus title game was obviously Maximus III who had 372 yards through the air and had two huge touchdown passes to his receivers. It was unclear if Maximus III would be the goat or a goat in this game, but he did shine through. His ability to read the Baltimore defense allowed him to escape the game virtually untouched and not force any bad throws into areas that put his own team at risk. He finished the game going 27 for 38 which was a blessing for the Second Line who needed a high efficiency game from their signal caller. With some help from his receivers and great running from Darren Smallwood, he was able to mix plays up and draw the defense offside a couple times as well. The Second line used play-action and at one point a quarterback read option to keep the Hawks defense guessing. Maximus III will obviously learn a lot from this big stage and he is hoping to repeat his performance next season when they hope to be back in the title game chasing another ring. Maximus III should be voted as the Ultimus Championship most valuable player if he isn't already. That Magic Moment: With two minutes and fifty-nine seconds left in the second quarter of the Ultimus Championship game, a historic moment was captured. Mayran Jackson caught a pass in the endzone from Maximus III. It was a nine yard scamper by the old veteran and it allowed the New Orleans Second Line squad to tie the game at fourteen before adding another field goal just before half time. Mayran Jackson had hinted that it might possibly be his last season in the National Simulation Football League this season and he signed a one-year deal with the Second Line to see if he could capture another title. Jackson is no stranger to winning titles as he now has three to his name, but the catch actually made him one of the oldest players in the league to catch a touchdown in the big game. Jackson would go on to be only two yards shy of the century mark for receiving yards in the game. Jackson caught four passes in the game and led all receivers in average yards per catch with 24.5 YPG. It was then found out after the game that he would be returning for one more season to see if he can add a fourth ring to his total. Going to Disneyland!: With Maximus III's great performance in the Ultimus Trophy title game, he won a trip to Disneyland for being the most valuable player of the game. His departure for the happiest place on earth was a short 48 hours after he lifted the trophy over his head. First stop was obviously space mountain where he lost his hat in the dark. Next up on the trip was the Matterhorn where he got scared shitless from the Yeti that surprised him. He said it was the only ever Yeti to surprise him as the football team with the same name didn't really bother him much at all. His next stop was the teacups where he saw Stormblessed working the ride (surprisingly since he got fired from his gas station attendant job). He stopped by the food court to grab a churro and then he decided it was time to get wet and hit up splash mountain. After his drawers were as wet as a 20 year old girl at the Calgary Stampede, he then hit up "It's A Small World" where he sung every note to the famous song and kept singing it until he had to leave the park. A couple photos with Snow White before leaving to go back to the hotel. Unsung Hero: Unsung hero of the playoffs has to go to Darren Smallwood who almost eclipsed the century mark in rushing yards in the Ultimus title game. Smallwood is a long time veteran who has played multiple positions and excelled at every spot. Similar to the Green Bay packers running back Ty Montgomery, Smallwood was transitioning to running back and he made some major plays in the playoffs. Smallwood is no stranger to being out of place though, as his multiple positions and multiple cities has allowed him to have a short memory and adapt to his new situations. Another thing that Smallwood doesn't get credited with much is his ability to pick up blocks and he allowed Maximus III to remain in the pocket and untouched all game long. Smallwood is a receiving back primarily because of the route he took to be where he is in the league, but he has always started so taking one for the team in a position switch a couple seasons ago was a huge bonus for the team and for him. His ability to cut and find holes in the initial pressure allow him to pick up positive yards on every play. His play recognition as well is something that helps his quarterback out big time. (S9) - Ultimus Week - bovovovo - 08-17-2018 ROBBED of course the wraiths should have made the playoffs are you kidding me they lost to the yeti of all people but wait thats not even the biggest reason why they should have made the playoffs I can count one two three four five six seven eight nine ten eleven twelve thirteen fourteen fifteen sixteen seventeen eighteen eighteen and a half reasons why they should have made the playoffs thats right ladies and gentlemen that is because your yellowknife wraiths had not one not two not three not four not five not six not seven not eight not nine not ten not eleven not twelve not thirteen not fourteen not fifteen not sixteen not seventeen not eighteen but eighteen and a half million more cap space than any other team in the league but guess what they still missed the play offs how does that happen you ask well the sad honest truth is I do not know I do not know how the wraiths did not make the playoffs when they had not one not two not three not four not five not six not seven not eight not nine not ten not eleven not twelve not thirteen not fourteen not fifteen not sixteen not seventeen not eighteen but eighteen and a half million more cap space than any other team in the league (225 words) MVP The mvp is of course IYAH BLEWITT thats right ladies and gent back at it again for the last time before riding off into the sunset you love him you hate is iyah blewitt this boy right here is the man he made so many field goals three at the very least I believe if I do recall correctly that is three field goals he made that is 9 points just enough to put the dagger in the hawks and ensure the win for the new orleans second line the second line of new orleans the team which iyah blewitt is on thats right he is the mvp because he played perfectly what did you expect this dude is the man he did so good you could not believe it every field goal attempt he had he made and every extra point after a touch down attempt he had he made what else do you want in a kicker he was perfect and perfect means greatness and greatness means value and value means most valuable player and most valuable player means mvp that is why iyah blewitt is the mvp if I do say so myself yes that is what I think and that is why I think it. (209 words) THAT MAGIC MOMENT whats so magical about winning the ultimus you say well I say that winning the ultimus in general is a very magical moment very magical indeed when the new orleans second line won that there ultimus not too long ago this team has come so far from the legion days and used to sucks so bad be we had a vision and a process and a plan and we accomplished that vision and process and plan by following our vision and process and plan down to the tee yes we did and that was what made it so magical was all of the hard work coming to fruition and we won the ultimus and everybody was happy and the memes oh boy the memes were the most magical of all what more could you ask for in life other than winning the ultimus and it being the new orleans second line who win the ultimus and nobody else and all of the memes that came with it was good stuff indeed yes yes good stuff indeed if I do believe so myself yes wow twenty more words I need good lord who decided to make these so long we should do what that baseball league does and make it 150 words that would be the real magic moment right there ya know what I am saying. (226 words) HATE THE PLAYER OR THE GAME look i am just gonna say it okay i'm thinking it you're thinking it we're all thinking it okay we just gotta put it out there and address the elephant in the room okay it might be awkward and it might be uncomfortable but its gonna have to be said and its gonna feel so much better after its been said you know like throwing up when you are sick or ripping off the band aid sometimes you just gotta grin and bear it and know that it is for your own good and everything will be better afterwards okay like getting a shot like a vaccine it makes everything better okay so now don't get mad at me because I am just saying what we are all thinking and its gonna feel so much better after it has been said like a weight will be lifted off our shoulders and not just our shoulders but our hearts and our minds as well that is how bad it needs to be said I think it is safe to say that everybody in the league is thinking this but someone just has to come out and say it okay alright here it is the yeti should not have made the playoffs because they just got lucky and the wraiths were unlucky there I said it. (224 words) (S9) - Ultimus Week - White Cornerback - 08-17-2018 Robbed: Write about why a team that failed to make the playoffs should have over somebody else. Can be completed at any point Obviously the Yellowknife Wraiths are the team to write about for this particular par of the National Simulation Football League's prestigious Ultimus Week. Yellowknife slumped to a 7-7 record and narrowly missed out on the playoffs behind the new look Colorado Yeti side who finished with an optimistic 8-6 record. A far cry from their historical regular season records. Yellowknife started out the season horrendously falling to a 0-3 record, taking away losses to the struggling Arizona Outlaws and the dominant New Orleans Second Line at home while being defeated on the road visiting the Baltimore Hawks in week 1. Three strong back to back wins got the spooky boys back on track to a 3-3 record over the Orange County Otters, San Jose SaberCats and even the Colorado Yeti who would later go on to be defeated by the Baltimore Hawks in the NSFC game, who then would be defeated by the New Orleans Second Line to claim their first ever ultimus title in franchise history. But why did Yellowknife not make the playoffs? Freak losses more than anything else, much of the core was exactly the same as last years star roster, albeit a little older and a little slower. Colorado Yeti scored 333 points while conceding 347, Yellowknife scored 380 and only conceded 316 yet finished with a 1 win less record than the big icey boys from Denver. Yellowknife weren't robbed, they choked it. Hate the player or the game: Tell us which team made the playoffs and shouldn't have, or which team didn't and should have? (Can be completed at any point) The Colorado Yeti made the playoffs in the form of the 2nd seed of the NSFC behind the dominant Baltimore Hawks who have waited a long time for their moment to shine in the NSFC. Baltimore finished with a strong 11-3 record, there's no doubt they were the best team in the NSFC...but the Yeti are an entirely different story. The Colorado Yeti finished with an 8-6 record, not exactly the greatest seeing how they were merely a single win better off than the declining Yellowknife Wraiths who have been ravaged by both regression and free agent departures. Colorado lost both fixtures versing the Baltimore Hawks during regular season, 41-6 away and 31-13 at home. Now answer this, did a team who performed that poorly when matched up ever stand a chance in hell of beating them on the biggest stage, when it really mattered? Of course not. Yellowknife however did also lose both times against the Hawks but by a much smaller margin, 27-20 and 31-20, a negative point differential of only 18 points compared to the Yeti's 53, heck Yellowknife had a better point differential in both of their games combined than Colorado had in a single one of theirs. The Colorado Yeti were indeed destined to fail. Sit-down with a star:Interview a player from a team that is not your own that is in the playoffs. You must ask them four questions and at least three must relate to the league in some way. YOU MUST POST THE QUESTIONS AND THEIR ANSWERS FOR CREDIT. (Can be completed at any point) BayleyIsland 1. The Second Line managed to finish 12-2 and not only lead the entire league in regular season wins but also win the Ultimus for the first time in franchise history, how sweet did that feel? It was sweet. This is my first Ultimus Championship as well. It was my second chance at it, but finally happened. I mean, the city of New Orleans is super psyched about this. We went in with a plan into the games against the Otters and against the Hawks and we executed. We knew we could do it all season long, we just had to do it. We had a couple games in which we slipped up, but in the biggest games, we did what we came to do. There is no doubt it's sweet, it feels amazing, we will definitely party it up and get back to work tomorrow. 2. New Orleans easily defeated the Orange County Otters in the ASFC game and by in large the game was finished by the 3rd quarter. (21-36). For a team with a storied franchise, just how important was this win to the Second Line fans, staff and players? The Otters were a team that has showed a huge amount of success throughout the history of the NSFL. We always knew we were close, but we are over the top. Now, they have numerous players retiring, so we will come over the top again of them. It feels great. Looking back at the history of the Legion, they were very much a joke of a franchise for a few seasons. Once we moved to NOLA under Bovo, it was hugely important to be successful. Bovo runs a great team and brought in the necessary pieces to be successful. All of the fans bought in to what we are about and what we went to do, so it felt good. They supported us, so we need to repay the favor, I feel like we absolutely did that and more. 3. New Orleans had many doubters heading into the S9 preseason, during the regular season, before the postseason and even after defeating the Orange County Otters. Did this motivate the team did you feel as you headed into your first ever Ultimus game? We don't listen to other people. We knew we could do it. We don't need motivation, we believed in ourselves. The locker room was motivated by themselves, not others. We hope people continue to doubt what we can do. Please, do not take us seriously, when we beat you, we will make you look back at that and laugh. Maybe we will get respect around here. This was our second Ultimus game and we learned from the first one. 4. You guys came out successful, defeating the Baltimore Hawks 37-24 in the Ultimus game. Afterwards many have described the feeling as bliss, unbridled joy. Was this the case for you guys? Pure joy, it was amazing. It is tough to say anything more than that. It was something I will never forget. This will have to last until next season. We will be there again. Mark my words. Playoff Series MVP: Choose an MVP for one of the playoff series and write about why you chose them. Must be completed after the playoff series you write about Borkus Maximus III absolutely torched the Baltimore Hawks secondary in the Ultimus game where he went for 27/38 for 372 yards and 2 touchdowns. It all started during the second quarter where New Orleans trailed 14-2 and looked down and out. But Maximus stepped up and by stepped up I mean he threw up.. I mean he threw up passes for his teammates to catch. Maximus lead a dominant drive leading in a Darren Smallwood 8 yard rush for their first touchdown of the game. Maximus then let Mayran Jackson in on the scoring with a 9 yard pass which was shortly followed by the GOAT Iyah Blewitt kicking the extra point. Maximus then drove up the field once again to get the GOAT Iyah Blewitt into field goal kicking range and he duly delivered. 19-14 it stood. Baltimore used the entire 3rd quarter to take the lead 24-19 it stood. Maximus then marched up the field and let Smallwood take the glory for a 1 yard rushing touchdown. Which he then cooly delivered the 2 point conversion. Followed by a 10 yard pass to the aging Dustin Evans pretty much sealed it. Maximus wasn't done yet, he again led the charge to field goal range to let the legendary Iyah Blewitt hit the winning field goal. So if you're to ask me who was the Ultimus MVP? It was clearly....Iyah Blewitt. (S9) - Ultimus Week - caltroit_red_flames - 08-17-2018 Robbed: Write about why a team that failed to make the playoffs should have over somebody else. Can be completed at any point The Yellowknife Wraiths not making the playoffs is an absolute sham. The Wraiths have the best corner back in the league in Dermot Lavelle and one of the top line backer groups in the league as well. The entire season ended up coming down to just one game where the Colorado Yeti got lucky enough to win. It was a total fluke, especially win you consider that the Yeti's offense is basically run by their kicker who has to put up all the points for them since their quarterback can never get their running backs or wide receivers into the end zone himself. The Yeti will be out of the playoffs by half time of the first game they play in and we'll all be laughing at how much of a joke this season ended up being because they made it instead of the Yellowknife Wraiths. Next season when the Wraiths get some more offensive weapons in the draft they'll be right back where they belong. In the playoffs. The quarterback for the Wratihs, Mats Akeleson is too good to be kept off the field so early in the season, he'll drag the team into the post season next year if he has to. Playoff Series MVP: Choose an MVP for one of the playoff series and write about why you chose them. Must be completed after the playoff series you write about It's a bit of a cop out to choose the quarterback as the MVP of a series, but the truth is that other than the New Orleans Second Line's defensive end Fuego Wozy there really wasn't much competition for the MVP of the Ultimus: the New Orleans Second Line quarter back, Borkus Maximus III! Any time a quarter back is rated over 100 for a game you know it was a good one, but overall he was rated 119.6 so it was obviously a great game for him. The Second Line didn't put their backup quarter back in the game for a single down, he was absolutely on fire. Maximus III completed 71% of the passes he attempted (27/38) for an average of 13.8 yards and a total of 372 passing yards. He ended the game having thrown two touchdowns and not a single interception. Averaging a first down per completed pass is awesome and not throwing a single interception is great. The tactic of going for short passes and getting to the end zone slowly but surely seemed to workout real well for him and the Second Line. Maximus III is by far the most deserving player of the Ultimus MVP award. That Magic Moment: Pick one moment from a playoff game and describe what made it so amazing to watch. (Must be completed after the game you write about) There's a moment in every great game where everyone is watching and something incredible happens. An interception is caught, a huge sack is made, a touchdown is scored. Something huge. Going into the 4th quarter the Second Line were down by 5 points. The team was in desperate need of some magic. Starting on the 40 yard line Borkus Maximus III calls a pass play and completes the throw to DiMirio for 9 yards. Rove from the Hawks tackles DiMirio, doing everything he can to preserve the lead. Maximus III calls another passing play and you can feel it in the air. Hawks fans are anxious, Second Line fans are hopeful and everyone is watching the game. The ball is snapped and Evans take off, running faster than he has all game. He's taken off much faster than the covering man thought he would and is alone in the outfield. Almost like you would in a schoolyard he's yelling, screaming, begging and waving his arms as he runs toward the end zone. Maximus III throws him the ball and says a prayer to himself as it's in the air. Evans catches it at the 5 yard line and the stadium erupts with excitement. He's taken down at the 1 yard line where a running back brings it home and the Second Line are back on top. PBE PT http://probaseballexperience.jcink.net/ind...indpost&p=36876 (S9) - Ultimus Week - LGMForever - 08-17-2018 Robbed: Write about why a team that failed to make the playoffs should have over somebody else. Can be completed at any point It is apparent that the Yellowknife Wraiths were robbed of a playoff spot in Ultimus this season, with them being edged by the Colorado Yetis. They finished the season with a 7-7, a .500 record, so still pretty solid if not enough for a playoff spot. However, the idea of them being robbed comes back to some prior history along with back luck. The previous year champions came into the brand new season with really no ginormous differences to their team except for a potential championship hangover that seems to be a superstition among both executives and fans around the league. They were still a championship team, and it's crazy to see such a drop from glory instead of a gradual decline like most teams. However, underperformance early on in the season maimed their record and although they would end up reaching a .500 record at 3-3, the early season woes never left them and that 0-3 start was never truly recovered from. In comparison to the Colorado Yetis, who took their spots in the playoffs, the Wraiths actually had a positive points scored to points given up ratio. It's just that they weren't able to split up those points around in order to win more games throughout the weeks and for that they were robbed by a less deserving team. Playoff Series MVP: Choose an MVP for one of the playoff series and write about why you chose them. Must be completed after the playoff series you write about I'd have to say that the obvious MVP of the playoff series for the Ultimus trophy was probably Borkus Maximus III, who was the starting quarterback for the New Orleans Second Line in the series as well as for the team throughout the whole season in general. In a 37-24 game against the Baltimore Hawks, Borkus Maximus III had scored two passing touchdowns, which might not even be considered his biggest accomplishment during the game that decided the whole season. The 372 passing yards that Borkus had achieved were huge for his team, as maintaining that offensive pressure against the opposition will always be important not only as an act of scoring but as a means of running out the clock so that the other team doesn't hold a chance at scoring too much when your team is currently in possession of the lead. Another impressive feature by Borkus during the game was a lack of interceptions on his passes. One of the worst things a quarterback could do during any game was have an errant throw that allows an opposing player to get their hands on the ball so that possession of the ball gets swapped to the team that made the interception. Borkus is a good boy for being a very impressive quarterback Going to Disneyland!:Who was the Ultimus MVP? Give us a rundown of their celebratory trip to Disneyland. Can be completed after the Ultimus game The obvious Ultimus MVP for the New Orleans Second Line in my opinion, Borkus Maximus III deserved every bit of his trip that he would take to the mythical Disneyland. As any self-respecting individual would do upon first arriving at Disneyland, Borkus immediately visited the Magic Kingdom and gazed upon the beauty that was Cinderella's Castle. Due to being a famous quarterback on the champions' team of the NSFL, he had received special treatment from the staff at Disney and had a personal dinner alongside his family with one of those actors who plays Cinderella when you enter the castle and all that. In addition, he had also went to view the show Fantasmic, although this was mostly for the sake of satisfying the children who were into that stuff. Of course, all of the fun hadn't come from the attractions at the parks themselves. Borkus is such a famous figure across the NSFL that he is able to pull some strings in order to get what he wants. When he was alone without his family around him, he had entered the Disneyland bathrooms and smoked all the crack that he could smuggle in his pockets and got the biggest rush that anyone's ever had in Disneyland. PBE PT (S9) - Ultimus Week - PDXBaller - 08-17-2018 Robbed: This is an easy one to write about considering how close the NSFC playoff spots were. Although they were the champions from last season, it was no guarantee that they'd be able to replicate their success again and the Colorado Yeti snuffed out Yellowknife's candle of hope this season by going 8-6 to edge them out of the playoffs. The Yeti won a pivotal game in week 13 against the Wraiths in Yellowknife which prevented them from making the playoffs. Not only were they favorites to win that game, but many people still believed they would be able to win the Ultimus again. Should they have made in the playoffs over Colorado? Were they 'robbed' of that opportunity to do so? Probably...even with an aging Akselsen and cast, the Wraiths were still strong in the passing game and still had a top secondary with Lavelle, Taylor, and Hardrool. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough to stop the rising Colorado Yeti who were struggling in the middle of the season but hit their stride towards the end. Applehort was simply unstoppable for the Wraiths that game and he solidified the team as a playoff contender going 28/37 for 367 yards and 3 touchdowns. Championship Game Recap:There are always a lot of great plays in the Ultimus so it's hard to find the 'one' moment that really helped tip the scale in a specific team's favor. This year's Ultimus was even more special because we saw 2 teams that had the potential to win it for the first time in their team's history. Baltimore was always on the outside looking in and New Orleans was making their first appearance in the Ultimus hoping to redeem the former Las Vegas franchise. The best play of the game came in the fourth quarter when New Orleans started their drive in the 9:36 mark. After a series of completions to Savea and Smallwood, the team was looking to get their 3rd down off a Smallwood carry. At around the 7:44 mark, we saw Maximus make a massive completion to Mayran Jackson for 46 yards which gave the team their 3 yards and some. After that, Baltimore's defense appeared to be mentally defeated and another rush by Smallwood followed by a completion to Evans put New Orleans up 34-24 and saw them take the lead again after having an unsuccessful third quarter. Those 46 yards were the key to winning the Ultimus for New Orleans. Sit-down with a star: Interviewed @`Fire-Bred` with these questions: 1) How did it feel to make the playoffs again? 2) Were you disappointed to lose to New Orleans this year? 3) What are you going to do in the off season to prepare for the S10 season? 4) You have one more season left with the Otters, are you interested in sticking with the team beyond S10 or will you test free agency? His response linked here: Link Sit-down with a fan: Answered @`Fire-Bred` questions: 1) After taking a brutal lose to the Hawks in the playoffs how does Kamaka feel? It wasn't a brutal loss in our eyes. It was a great chance to show the league that we could compete with the best and we were close to beating them. It illustrates how close we are to becoming a championship caliber team. Kamaka is feeling optimistic about the next season. 2) With the Hawks gaining speed what are the Yeti doing to keep up and try to get past them to get an Ultimus win The Hawks will be hitting regression soon and with a few of their key players retiring I think we have a chance in the next 1-3 seasons to take the NSFC by storm. 3) When do you think Yeti will find themself winning the Ultimus. The next 1-3 seasons. We're only a few key pieces away from making it happen. 4) How many holes does a straw have 1 or 2 1 long hole.... (S9) - Ultimus Week - CDub2 - 08-17-2018 Robbed: Write about why a team that failed to make the playoffs should have over somebody else. Can be completed at any point Obviously, the Yellowknife Wraiths should have made the playoffs. All the respect towards the Yeti, but there were too many sim kerfuffles to count that led the Yellowknife Wraiths to limp to a 7-7 record. The losses to the Liberty and the Outlaws were inexcusable. Those are two pretty bad teams. Like really bad. No way a high caliber team like the Wraiths should have dropped games to those two teams. Aside from that, the Wraith players are in their prime. Very few of the players are season 7 rookies or later, with most being from seasons 1 and 2. On the other hand, most of the Colorado Yeti are season 5 or later. The regression has hit the Wraiths hard, but it still doesn't explain how poorly the sim gods treated the Wraiths this season. The SaberCats and the Outlaws and the Liberty are all clearly rebuilding, so it was really just the Yeti and the Wraiths duking it out for the final playoff spot. So those costly losses early in the season to two rebuilding teams was really tough. It also just so happened, that nobody on the roster had a very good season statistically. So it was poor individually and poor as a team. 208 Playoff Series MVP: Choose an MVP for one of the playoff series and write about why you chose them. Must be completed after the playoff series you write about This might come as surprise, but I believe that Fuego Wozy is the MVP of the Ultimus game. While the score of the game wasn't that close, Wozy set the tone nice and early be recording a safety. It's two points and a change of possession. The best way to win a game is to never let the opposition, especially the potent Baltimore Hawks offense, have the ball. Woz didn't stop there, he recorded a total of 3 tackles and 2 sacks. Most people would probably give the MVP award to someone like Smallwood, for his 2 TD performance, but everyone knows defense wins championships, so to close the opening quarter with a safety is something special, and greatly swings momentum in the Second Line's direction. There probably was multiple answer to the MVP question, Borkus Maximus was strong, Smallwood as previously mentioned was good, and even veteran Dustin Evans (who's played so long I swear he's owned the league) had a standout receiving game gaining 101 yards and a touchdown. But again, my ex-teammate Wozy gets the nod for MVP. I wish he was still a Wraith, but it's nice to see a vet make an impact and win a championship after missing out on the Wraiths championship run last season. 212 Hate the player or the game: Tell us which team made the playoffs and shouldn't have, or which team didn't and should have? (Can be completed at any point) Well, as seen above, I still think the Wraiths should be in the playoffs and the Yeti should be out. The Yeti just aren't ready. As seen by their dud of a defensive performance in the NSFC championship game, they allowed 40 points to the Hawks. Their defense just doesn't have the talent to keep up with the big hitters in this league. The Wraiths defense does have the big hitters to keep up with the Hawks, the Second Line, and the Otters. The Yeti actually allowed more points than they scored during the regular season. That doesn't sound like a playoff caliber team now does it? The Wraiths on the other hand scored 64 more points than they gave up during the season. It was just a could of bad sims that sank their season. The Yeti scored a couple much needed wins that they shouldn't have. Meanwhile, their losses were pretty bad losses. Their offense is competitive, but again, their defense is just not up to snuff. It's great that they were able to drop 34 points on the Hawks, but it's very unlikely they could have done it against the Second Line as well had they surpassed the Hawks. 202 Unsung Hero:Who was the unsung hero of the playoffs, convince us. (Can be completed after the Ultimus game) I quickly mentioned this player in my previous write up about the MVP of the Ultimus game. This player has put up back to back 100 yard receiving games in the playoffs and recorded a touchdown in each game. In the conference playoff game, this player had a 40 yard reception to set up the Second Line score again. So by now, most probably know who I'm talking about. This player is a Second Line receiver that led the team in both playoff games. This player is of course Dustin Evans. He's been with the Second Line for a while so it's nice to see a team and league vet finally help his team win a title. Wozy might have received my MVP nod, and Borkus Maximus probably received everyone else's MVP awards, so Dustin Evans seemed like the most unsung playoff hero. Any team would be lucky to have a big, possession receiver that can dominate a game like Dustin Evans. Fortunately for the Second Line, they have 2 really good receivers, but it just so happens that neither the Otters nor the Hawks corners could contain Evans' size and speed across the two playoff games. While his success is unlikely without Borkus being a monster as well, Evans was dominant in potentially his final season. 217 (S9) - Ultimus Week - speculadora - 08-18-2018 Robbed: Write about why a team that failed to make the playoffs should have over somebody else. Who deserved to be the number two seed in the NSFC this playoffs? The answer is not quite cut and dry. The two teams we'll focus on are Colorado, who finished 8-6 and made the playoffs, and Yellowknife, who finished 7-7 and missed. Let's start with the Yeti. Yes they finished their season beating Yellowknife in Yellowknife and Orange County at home. However they also finished with a -14 point differential, unbecoming of a true playoff contender. Yellowknife, on the other hand, finished with a +64 point differential. Yes, they did shoot themselves in the foot by losing to Colorado at home with a playoff spot on the line. Yes, the Yeti did play Baltimore very close in the NSFC title game. However, I think a comparison of the true talent levels of each team leans in Yellowknife's direction, and that is why I would have like to see them in the playoffs over Colorado. Still, a lot of credit to Colorado for turning what was looking like another wasted season into a playoff run and real momentum boost. Playoff Series MVP: Choose an MVP for one of the playoff series and write about why you chose them. Must be completed after the playoff series you write about. This is going to be hard to talk about, but I want to focus on the ASFC Championship Game between the Second Line and the Otters for this task. Things did not go our way, but New Orleans is an amazing team and deserved every moment of their Ultimus run. Or perhaps I should say Ultimus pass, because that's how they really won the title this season. No disrespect to Darren Smallwood, who had an amazing, award-worthy season that will likely go down as the best season by a running back, but this title was won on the arm of Borkus Maximus III. Against the Otters, Borkus shredded our secondary for a ridiculous 344 yards, 4 touchdowns, and 0 interceptions en route to a 112.9 passer rating and a victory in a game that he never let feel within reach for Orange County. This was a game where their offense's co-engine legitimately struggled, too. It would have been easy for Maximus to fold, but he held strong and quarterbacked an elite game. Going to Disneyland!:Who was the Ultimus MVP? Give us a rundown of their celebratory trip to Disneyland. Well this is going to feel like some kind of Borkus Maximus III propaganda piece, but he's my choice for Ultimus MVP just as he was for the ASFC CCG MVP. In the Ultimus game itself, Bovo passed for an absurdly efficient stat line, roasting the Baltimore defense to the tune of a 71% completion rate, 372 yards, and 2 touchdowns. That's an outright wild performance from one of the league's new stars. As far as his trip to Disneyland, Borkus is a sucker for the Disney princesses, so his trip is really going to focus on rides related to those movies. Unfortunately they are woefully underrepresented in the park, so he will spend minimal time in the hell hole of a theme park itself and more time in his suite binging Disney movies and filling out his Disney/Pixar movie bracket to debate with his teammates. What a fun trip that will be. Unsung Hero:Who was the unsung hero of the playoffs, convince us. (Can be completed after the Ultimus game) The Unsung hero of the playoffs is none other than @Beaver, also known as Blackford Oakes. You might be thinking to yourself "Oakes only had 9 tackles and a sack, how could be be a hero?" Well, it's because Beaver is always a hero and no amount of singing of his praises could every do him justice. He is always there when you need a fresh new meme or some lively banter. He will stand up for you when other players call you nasty things. He will fight for his teams to trade for you. He is a true hero, in every sense of the word, and he is a hero that I, in a moment of weakness and hot-hotheadedness, took for granted. For that I am truly, unbelievably sorry. While I understand if you still never wish to be an Otter, I hope we can move on from the truly upsetting things I said yesterday at some point in the future. Until then I will work tirelessly to be the best me I can be, and I hope that that is a me that you can find a way to forgive. (S9) - Ultimus Week - Nathan_Hall - 08-18-2018 Robbed: Write about why a team that failed to make the playoffs should have over somebody else. - I mean there's really only one choice here. All the other remaining non-playoff teams are 4-10, 3-11, and 2-12. That's right, I'll write about the team that everyone else wrote about, the Yellowknife Wraiths. (Intermission: What kind of name is that? Okay, I googled it; Yellowknife is a city in Canada, but what about some lame name like Yellowknife Yaks or something? I digress... ) The Wraiths started the season off with 3 straight losses, and they weren't really close by any measures, the closest being 7 points apart, but it seemed that the team was still in its preseason stupor. It shook it off with a quality 27-16 win over the Saber-Cats, and then won 3 in a row to bring their record back to .500. They were one win away from a playoff spot, and Wraiths fans will protest that the Yeti are not worthy of a playoff spot. Maybe we can bribe the commissioner ????. Then again, you have to wonder, are the Wraiths really worthy of a playoff spot? It may just be the name that I have a grudge with, but you have to see that they themselves were the ones that put themselves into a deep hole to start the season with. The 3 games lost were on them. Code: That ending really payed off, 232 words PBE PT Playoff Predictions: Give a short write up on each of the playoff matches (including the championship game). - Lets go with the DSFL portion of this since if we're being real that's the main part that I follow, being on the Luchadores. To be honest here I'm not that well versed in football stats and whatnot so I'll keep it simple. Like baby simple. Which I am. Cutting to the chase, we have first up the Tijuana Luchadores vs. the San Antonio Marshals. Luchadores win, easy. Just look at their records and their roster. Elite QB in Adriana Falconi and their running game is great. They'll just have to make sure the Marshalls don't take advantage of their somewhat-weak D. I'll have to go 42-28 Luchas. Next we have the Portland Pythons vs. the Kansas City Coyotes. They look pretty evenly matched, but I'll have to go Pythons since I think their running game is strong enough to pass the Coyotes. Finally, we have the Luchadores vs. the Pythons. I have a feeling I over-thought this. I spent a lot of time over-deliberating over how the Pythons would find away to run amok over the Lucha's D, but in the end I think the Luchadores, who in the end did have the best record, will get another title. Code: YES just hit 200 words ???? Root for the Underdog: Pick an away team in an upcoming game and try to convince yourself (and us) why they can win. - It seems like a lock for the New Orleans Orange Line to win it all again, and for good reason. They have dominating QBs that threw the second most touchdowns and the least interceptions, and were second in yards as well. They were also third in yards rushed and touchdowns from rushes, not to mention that their recieving corps were second in most receiving stats as well. That's the thing. The Orange Line are very strong in all parts of the game, but don't really have a shutdown system. Yes, their defense has the most interceptions, but are mostly second to the Yetis in other categories. For this reason, I pick the Hawks, who have the most touchdowns rushed, passes defended, and lead the league in passing percentage. All it takes is some luck (and tampering) for the Hawks to steal the trophy from the Orange Line. Lets not forget that the Hawks themselves are also an elite team, a tier above the rest of the contenders just as the Orange Line are a tier above the Hawks. The Hawks are 11-3, just one win away from 12-2, the Orange Line's record. The math doesn't work, but it just takes one win to even it up. Code: shitposting works! 226 words (S9) - Ultimus Week - OBESE - 08-18-2018 Sit-down with a star - Fitzpatrick 1. This was the first season for you in the big leagues, how would you describe it? Definitely nerve-wracking. By the end of my DSFL time, I knew I was better than a lot of the league. Going into a league where I was the weak link on my team the whole season, I was constantly dreading mistakes, and there were a lot of them to dread. 2. Which song has been your pump-up, motivation or energy song this season? Easy. "X Gon Give it to Ya Maybe," great mash-up. 3. Any of the team members that you owe a "thank you" for the help they have given you? Would have to say Reg Mackworthy. So many first downs he got without any help, and a lot of the passing I was able to do was because defenses were focused on him, because he was setting a league record for rushing. Also Crindy for some top notch blocking. He didn't allow any sacks, which was a big deal those first few games. 4. Now when you are in Major league, while Showbiz is still in Minor league, do you still see him as your main rival? Hard to say. Because I did so well I was basically even with Pennington, who was a season above me. When Showbiz takes over, I think that rivalry will return, but I don’t think the comparisons to Pennington will go away. I mean, Showbiz is closer to me in experience, but Pennington is closer to me in offensive weapons. We’ll be three QBs in very overlapping situations, and I think all 3 will be compared. |
