(S10) - PT 1 - New Faces - ADwyer87 - 08-30-2018 After being let slip to the second round, Sunnycursed was wondering if any team really wanted him. Luckily for him, the Portland Pythons recognized the great talent Sunnycursed brought to the table, and made him their first pick in the draft. However, this meant a lot of new faces to meet, and a new location to get used to. The incumbents were the first people Sunnycursed met. There weren't many big ones, but the two guys he really talked to was Joel Schroeder and Joliet Christ. Schroeder was a CB and Christ was a QB, so as a wide receiver, these guys would be key to his team experience. The next people he met were his fellow S10 DSFL Portland draftees. Marc Spector, a clone of a player Sunnycursed grew up watching, was 7th overall. At Corner, this gave the Pythons a nice double sided attack on offense and defense in the pass game. Next up was Antonio Summer, a running back to help give the offense a balanced attack. Next up, Safety Dan Schneider, Kwame Abayomi Mbanefu, and K.J. Becker, three defensive difference makers later in the draft. Later, two nice wide receiver partners for Sunnycursed came in, Josh Parker and Harvey Kindle, cementing the nice receiver core that the team would have. They would end the draft with Danny Methane. He would get together and party with all his new teammates (S10) - PT 1 - New Faces - Phobospwns - 08-30-2018 When you make a career move, be it from being drafted, traded, or picking a new team in free agency, all eyes tend to be on you when you show up. The fact of the matter is, when you walk in, you are there to take someone's job- which isn't something that everyone takes kindly to (even if it's not their job you're taking - these guys have been together for some time, and they're probably close). There is only one way that you can get past that, in most cases... You've got to get in the door, and start grinding right away. Unless you're truly god's gift to man (and not just a situation where you think you are), if you don't put the work in, you're not going to live up to the expectations that the coaches, and the players, have for you. I happen to be a member of the reigning champs after being selected in the first round of the draft. Playing for a team of champions, and being a first round draft pick, those are going to have big time implications in the level of their expectations for me. I've got to get to that level as soon as possible, so I'll be the first one in and the last one out until I'm where I need to be. That's the only way to handle it, as far as I'm concerned. (S10) - PT 1 - New Faces - SwagSloth - 08-30-2018 Andrew Reese is hyped to be part of his new DSFL team, the Kansas City Coyoyes. And, so far, the experience has been great. The team is excited to welcome him into their ranks and it feels like an organization that he can really commit himself to as he works his way up into the NSFL. The only obstacle so far is the team’s previous QB, the clone of former NSFL great Chris Orosz, but Reese welcomes the challenge and is ready to prove himself as the clear #1 starter. The Coyotes themselves have had an uphill battle during the preseason, but morale remains strong and the team believes it can make some real strives over the season. Reese has tried to take a leadership role as expected given his reputation, but he’s happy to see that others are also committed to the cause. This feels like a team that could surprise the league as it continues to push for its first-ever championship. Many of the other rookies are making a strong effort to learn the ropes as quickly as possible, so that the weight doesn’t remain on the veterans. The Coyotes are a tight crew and Reese is already pleased to count himself among their ranks. 213 Words (S10) - PT 1 - New Faces - HalfEatenOnionBagel - 08-30-2018 Even though Hondo won’t be staying up with the Liberty this season and will remain with the Luchadores to get one more DSFL championship, there are a ton of new players that he will get a chance to play with in the future that were selected by the Liberty in this year’s draft. Of course the chance to get to play with future hall of famers QB Adriana Falconi and RB Maquise “Touchdown” Brown for a long time is definitely exciting, but I’ve talked about them plenty of times and let’s be honest anyone that has watched a DSFL game knows who they are. But one guy that I’m really glad is a member of the Liberty is Lucari Felix. Even though our DSFL teams are bitter rivals, he’s got a ton of energy and a great personality. He’s exactly the kind of guy you want in the locker room. And even though Hondo won’t be lining up on the same side of the field as him right now since he’s on defense, I know that Felix is going to be a fantastic member of the team and far exceed his draft position when it is all said and done. There’s tons more players I could go on and on about and I will, but probably at a different time. Also on the Luchadores, Tana Keita has gotta be the best new addition to the team. That guy is already a hall of famer in our hearts. But, to be frank, none of the new additions are guys who are very involved in the locker room. In a trade with Philadelphia, we tried to solidify some positions where we’ve been struggling by adding some roleplayers to the roster. Norman Bagwell, Willy Nyquist, Fox North, and Ryan Flock all headed to Colorado. We’ll have to see how they perform on the field, but their locker room presence has been nonexistent. For the most part, they’ve been showing up to practice and meetings, but it’s hard to say that their careers are on an upward trajectory. We then brought in former standout Terrell Brister to help our struggling secondary. This guy was a phenom early in his career, but it seems like he’s hit his ceiling. He’s going to be an upgrade over what we had, to be sure. How much is he really going to offer, though? He won’t be a locker room leader, but it’s important to have roleplayers, as not everyone can be a team captain. Still, after some misses in the draft and acquiring some declining talent, it’s hard to see who is going to be the next young gun to step up for this team. Haruki Ishigawa Word count: 220 |
