Back in S7 a weird thing happened. All of a sudden the San Jose Saber Cats were done competing. For the longest time, they were the 2nd or 3rd best (usually 2nd but had some tough sim luck) in the ASFC. But one day, management decided they weren't ready to compete, so come S8, they started shedding pieces like crazy. Dan Miller left, Bayley was shipped out. But I think the most important trade was when Vincent Sharpei (Mu) got shipped out to the Second Line. First of all, out of character, it was a huge deal at the time because SJS was shipping out Co-GMs. It was a full admission of a full rebuild. Very similar to what we saw in Philly the year before. But in character, Sharpei was the prize piece of that defence. He was continually the best line backer in the league pretty much since he joined the league. So for San Jose to ship out that piece was beginning of the end for the ASFC. At that point, everyone knew the Second Line were the kings of the castle. It was the NSFC's job to try and keep up. The Sharpei deal was just the first domino in a row to signal a dynasty starting down south.

While the “landscape” of the league wasn’t truly changed, the Orange County Otters trading star wide receiver and reigning league MVP Carlito Crush to the New Orleans Second Line may have been the final nail in the coffin for the rest of the league. Crush is currently leading the league in receptions (68) and yards (1011) over ten games, only two of which were played with New Orleans already. Crush joins Borkus Maximus’ high flying circus that already included Law, Leclair, and legendary tight end Paul DiMirio. Not to mention Darren Smallwood is there to do some damage as well. While the Baltimore Hawks technically have the better record, New Orleans decimated them in their only matchup so far (the teams meet again in Baltimore in the final week of the season in a game that may have Ultimus Bowl home field advantage on the line) 38-12, and that was before Crush came along. Ironically, Crush was VERY close to being traded to the Hawks instead, but Baltimore decided to be cheap and grab Carter Bush instead. I don’t think the Hawks expected Crush to go to their main competition for the Ultimus, and instead may now be spending the offseason wondering why they just didn’t pull the trigger on one of the league’s top players. Even if Crush would’ve stayed the rest of the season, I don’t think Hawks fans would’ve minded giving up a pick if it meant being Ultimus Champions. Instead, the Second Line look poised to bring it home to New Orleans. (256)

This year had a couple good deals go down. We seen the Liberty send out Josh Garden to the Orange County Otters further strengthening their core and helping their run towards the Ultimus Trophy this season. While Garden may not be hitting the gym anymore, he still is a solid depth piece for any championship caliber team. Hoping to get a chance towards wining an Ultimus, he is hoping that the Otters give him his best chance at winning and it's going to be tough this season. The Liberty received an S11 fourth round pick in the deal along with retaining Garden's salary for the season. The second deal saw Carlito Crush be sent out to the New Orleans Second Line for New Orleans S12 second round pick while retaining his salary. Carlito is being put in the same situation as Garden in which he is being sent to a championship caliber team in hopes of winning an Ultimus. Both of these teams will end up meeting in the conference championship game to decide who will be representing the AFSC in the big game. It's going to be interesting to see which of these two players will have the bigger impact for their team in their runs to the Ultimus Trophy.

It's hard to write about any trade if I'm not active here at all. So I'm going to write about a trade that was groundbreaking for me. And for league since it made one team's defence a brick wall.

This trade happened on October 25th between San Jose Sabercats and Yellowknife Wraiths teams. The details are down below:

SaberCats receive:
Chris Orosz
RFA rights to Alex Hansen

Wraiths receive:
Clee Hardrool
SJS S5 1st
SJS S6 2nd
SJS S6 3rd

A lots of interesting faces. A good QB in Orosz, an active by that time Hansen (maybe he's active now as well, I don't know). And then there's my dude, the safety Clee Hardrool. You may ask - how it's a groundbreaking trade or how did this change the landscape of this league? My answer is I don't know. But what I do know, Clee was one of guys who was cementing the Wraiths' defense through all these years. And after some unsuccessful attempts, the team finally could take a trophy in S8 and Clee definitely was helping this team.

So yeah, while it never was a ''wow'' type of trade and it wasn't that impactful as some more famous trades (like most recent Crush trade), it could make a small change in a longterm.
