Ultimus Week - S10 - CDub2 - 10-05-2018 1. PBE PT 2. Robbed: Write about why a team that failed to make the playoffs should have over somebody else. Can be completed at any point Well of course, I have to write about the Yellowknife Wraiths. Again, the Yellowknife Wraiths have spent another season rebuilding on the fly. While our expectations were reasonable, we were confident that we were a better team that the Colorado Yeti. Nothing against them, but we had a more consistent quarterback, a better offense, and a much stronger veteran defense. We have our weaknesses too, but the Yeti have theirs. So to see us lose to them in one of the last weeks of the season to let them clinch their playoff spot was crushing. It's also pretty tragic that the Wraiths are in the NSFC as well. If they were in the ASFC, they would easily be in the #2 seed. OCO is old and the other two teams are crazy bad. There would be no playoff competition with a division rearrangement. But alas, the NSFC was our doom once again. Next season is the do or die season for the Wraiths. Some of the pieces of the defense will begin to age out in the next season or so, so while the offense can continue to improve under Pennington, the defence has some big pieces the team needs to take advantage of. 205 3. New Talent: Write about which S9 trade will or did have the biggest impact in the playoffs. Can be written at any time depending on if you choose to write about who already has or who will do good Well I'm always super psyched to write about former teammates. So what an opportunity to write about my old teammate Carlito Crush. The former TE that made a switch to WR, he was probably the hottest trade option on the market during the season. Most people probably didn't even know he was on the market. And did the trade ever pay off. He started the Ultimus game off super hot. Annnd yet, he's not the player that was traded that had the biggest impact on the season. Carter Bush was acquired by the Hawks for a 3rd round pick. A number 1 or 2 WR for a 3rd rounder. Well, it paid off for the Hawks. He went off in the Ultimus for over 100 yards and scored a 33 yard touchdown to get the Hawks back in the game. Oh, not to mention 7 catches. He was dominant, and it just shows that even if you give Avon Blocksdale one weapon, he can bring a championship to Baltimore. But I think most of the league was more confused how a versatile weapon like bush only went for a third. Recently, the trade market has been kind of weak because of team allegiance. Nobody wants to pay a big price for a 3 game asset. But maybe Bush doing this will encourage everyone to pay a litle more for pieces like this. 233 4. Playoff Series MVP: Choose an MVP for one of the playoff series and write about why you chose them. Must be completed after the playoff series you write about 533 It has to be Blocksdale. It doesn't matter which playoff series. That team runs through Blocksdale, and it has for 6 seasons now. The guy has had some of the greatest passing seasons ever in the league. He has had countless great playoff performances. so for him to finally get the ring, not better ending to a season could have been planned. Avon, the S2 veteran, put together a playoff performance for the ages. He didn't through 4 TDs per game like Boss, he didn't rush for 2 TDs like Akselsen. Avon put together his own special brand of playoff performance. He passed for 4 TDs, 63% completion and for almost 700 yards in two games. Again not the touchdowns of Boss or the rushes of Akselsen, but he was still just as spectacular as any of the other legends. So for a legendary QB that was looking for a place to fit in the history book, this playoff run pretty much sums up his career. A quiet, simple, and consistent performance that leads to wins. I can't be happier for him, And for all the crap the Hawks get, the team and especially Avon deserve this season. But next season is for the Wraiths. 205 Ultimus Week - S10 - kckolbe - 10-05-2018 New Talent Just before the Season 10 trade deadline, both teams that eventually made it to the Ultimus game made a deal to acquire a wide receiver from an unlikely conference rival. Baltimore acquired the most talented player from the Philadelphia Liberty, who also happened to be the GM. The Second Line traded with the Otters to acquire their star receiver who had set the record for receiving touchdowns the year prior, despite the fact that Orange County would be playing against them in the conference finals. Both teams were now armed with their offensive weapons. In the conference round, neither receiver really seemed to be a major difference-maker. Carlito Crush hauled in only three receptions for 40 yards, ranking him third in receiving yards for the team. Carter Bush was a bit more significant, hauling in 6 receptions for 78 yards, but couldn’t find the end zone despite all those opportunities. Both receivers stepped up for the big game, though. Crush caught 5 passes for 54 yards and a touchdown (the last one NOLA managed for over twenty minutes). Bush did a bit more, catching 7 passes for 102 yards and a TD, making him the most prominent receiver in the biggest game, and the clear bigger impact. Playoff Review Both first round matches turned out to be very close affairs. The Baltimore Hawks hosted the Colorado Rebuilders. Despite a final score of 28-37, it was both closer and not as competitive as the final score indicates. The Hawks scored on 7 different occasions, settling for field goals on 3 of them, whereas Colorado found the end zone all four times they got close, meaning that it was closer to a blowout than a Yeti win. However, Baltimore’s final 3 points came in the final minute when a punt would have had the same effect. In New Orleans, a defensive battle was the big surprise, with a field goal from OC being the only points either team scored in the first half. So when NOLA found the end zone in the 3rd, it felt like game over. A field goal from NOLA in the 4th ended up clenching it. The Ultimus was one hell of a game. NOLA, the visitor, took the early lead and held it for…the majority of the game, but 5 field goals from Turkleton and 2 touchdowns from Blocksdale were enough to overcome the lead. After a critical comeback drive stalled out, Baltimore won the game and their first championship. That Magic Moment It’s the 4th quarter of the Ultimus game. New Orleans, who took an early lead, now trails by 6. With 4:53, giving New Orleans the ball and a chance to win, with 4:48 seconds and 80 yards remaining. For the #1 offense in the league…child’s play. With plenty of time, the Second Line handed off to Smallwood for an 8 yard gain. It was clear that New Orleans was not at all worried about the clock. The play was followed by a 5 yard slant to DiMirio, brought down at the 33. With only 3:59 remaining and still 67 yards, Baltimore was beginning to hope the drive wouldn’t be fast enough, but a 21 yard rush by Maximus silenced those hopes. Only 46 yards remaining and 3:06 left on the clock, with all 3 timeouts remaining. Time was no longer a factor. Baltimore cranked up the pressure, forcing Maximus to throw away the ball on the next play, and forced a one yard loss on the next. Facing 3rd and 11, Maximus failed to connect with Smallwood. Then, on 4th and 11, facing elimination, rather than have the top passer in the league make a play, they hand it off to Smallwood, who rushed for 5 yards, leaving them 6 short. http://probaseballexperience.jcink.net/ind...indpost&p=42367 Ultimus Week - S10 - dropbear - 10-06-2018 Going to Disneyland ![]() Robbed ![]() Unsung Hero ![]() That Magic Moment ![]() Ultimus Week - S10 - Leafer - 10-06-2018 Written Points Robbed: Write about why a team that failed to make the playoffs should have over somebody else. Can be completed at any point The Yellowknife Wraith should have made the playoffs over the Colorado Yeti. Now the yeti may have better stats than the wraiths but stats are overrated. No one cares about stats because they do not tell whether a team is good or not. The Wraith have playoff experience and they did win the Ultimus so they can bring more of that than Colorado can actually. Colorado is not a football city because nobody cares over there. Yellowknife has great atmosphere and they are a real football team to play against in the playoffs. The wraith were just one game behind the Yeti which is not far away anyways and if the wraith were to win one more game, I do not think they would still make it but if they won two games instead then they would make it. Plus, the wraith destroyed the yeti early in the season by a bunch and that states that the wraith are better than the yeti. No hate for the yeti but this pretty much is the only 2 teams that can state that which team should have made it over someone else. Nola, otters and hawks deserve it and I think the yeti do too. The wraiths suck. Playoff Series MVP: Choose an MVP for one of the playoff series and write about why you chose them. Must be completed after the playoff series you write about The Hawks and Yeti game was a big offensive game for sure. There were a lot of field goals and touchdowns for a total of 65 points for both teams but the hawks got a better result out of it because of their quarterback who is avon blocksdale. The veteran QB impressed everyone and showed those haters who is boss. Even though he is old, he still got the talent inside him including his smartness. He was 31 for 52 in passing which is very good because they have been successful obviously. He passed for a total of 340 yards which exceeds 300 yards if math is correct and 2 touchdowns. He passed so much that none of them were interceptions. Very solid game for Blocksdale to take the best player of this game. Now obviously any QB can be the best player if they win the game but this is different. Avon was tremendous and the defense was crap for the Yeti. Nothing better than the Hawks once again making the Ultimus to finally win its championship which Baltimore needs and if they do, thank Avon for his excellence and his eliteness to show who is Mike Boss even? Playoff Review: Write a short review of the playoffs and each of the matchups. Must be completed after the Championship Game The Hawks and Yeti game was a big offensive game for sure. There were a lot of field goals and touchdowns for a total of 65 points for both teams but the hawks got a better result out of it because of their QB. Fletcher, Goodson, Marmeladov and Roenick all led the defense for the hawks for a big win but the offense was a big factor for the hawks. The Yeti had the offense but was not enough to beat the monstrous Hawks. Another rematch between NOLA and the otters. There is no Mike Boss so this may be a challenge to fight out against NOLA. This was surprisingly a low scoring game especially for NOLA even with Maximus. But this game was way opposite to the other matchup. This was a big defense game. Everyone had a tackle and there were a lot of sacks and QB had trouble even for Borkus. But NOLA got away with a TD and a win. The Ultimus rematch between the Hawks and NOLA. NOLA had a tremendous start with the big lead but never ever be happy with a big lead in a championship game because things can go wrong. Hawks comeback and win this game which is the greatest moment in NSFL history. Championship Game Recap: Do a recap of the best play from the championship game. Must be completed after the Championship Game The ultimus rematch between NOLA and Hawks was a big game. Both elite QBs and elite defense. It is too unpredictable. The game starts off with a FG from NOLA which is a good start. Then the hawks are unable to go forward but NOLA does and score a touchdown. 10-0 lead for NOLA which is a great start. But just as time expires, Avon with a TD pass to Bush for 33 yards and the Hawks are back before the end of the 1st quarter. But Borkus is back and passes to Crush for a 17-7 lead. Huge lead. But here comes the all mighty Turk Turkleton with 3 FGs straight and cut the lead to 1. Hawks do a good job in keeping it close to the end zone. We start off the 2nd half and Turk Turkleton does it again. 4 field goals successful in the Ultimus which is huge. But Maximus passes to the former hawk LeClaire which really hurts and NOLA is back with the lead. But Avon says no and passes it to Willie for a touchdown and the hawks enter the final quarter with a 26-23 lead. Turk Turkleton gets the field goal AND THE HAWKS WON THE ULTIMUS. Ultimus Week - S10 - mabb - 10-06-2018 Unsung Hero: Who was the unsung hero of the playoffs, convince us. (Can be completed after the Ultimus game) The Tijuana Luchadores’ new, rookie corner Dugnutt really made quite the difference to the team for the season, as well as the playoffs. Seeing one of the fastest skills builds possible for a rookie, Bobson really shined in the playoffs, though stats will never reveal how well a defensive player really does. Playing on both special teams and the defensive line in the division championship game, Dugnutt put the pressure on the Marshals. He may have only had one kick return on the books, but it was for a whopping 29 yards. In the same game, he had 6 tackles and, along with Xandra Troyski and the other defensive team members, they held the Marshals to only 3 points in the entire game. In the Ultimini, while he didn’t make as many tackles, ending up with 3 for the game, the really star moment was his interception right before halftime. The Pythons were making a drive down the field, with one of Dugnutt’s tackles slowing them down a bit, and they had just crossed to Lucha territory. It was then that Dugnutt read Cox like a book and beat Hasslehoff to the throw, intercepting the throw. The Lucha’s defense went on to shut out the Pythons in the second half, leaving them with only that one scoring play in the first minutes of the game. Going to Disneyland!: Who was the Ultimus MVP? Give us a rundown of their celebratory trip to Disneyland. (Can be completed after the Ultimus game) It may be an uncommon opinion, but for this season’s Ultimus game, I think the MVP should really go to the Hawk’s kicker, Turk Turkleton. He’s been around the league for what feels like forever, but he hasn’t lost his touch and completed all his kicks successfully in a very close game. In this day and age, where folks are missing extra points and field goals left and right, the importance of a reliable, steady kicker cannot be overstated. So, given Turk has been playing for a while, my guess is he will start off with some relaxation - maybe some “It’s a Small World” and the laser show? Maybe he’ll focus on his autograph/selfie book and try to catch ‘em all - Goofy, Mickey, Minnie, Pooh, and of course, all the princesses. Wandering around to some of the oldies but goodies on those first couple days. Then, once he’s feeling rejuvenated, he will start to go at it a bit more, some Space Mountain and Log Flume, then the Toy Story laser tag and Runaway Railroad. To top it all off, I’d expect a demonstration of his great kicking skills even after 5 straight go’s on the Spinning Tea Cups - kinda like that fan favorite mini game at a minor league baseball game. Except, because this is Turk Turkleton we’re talking about, he won’t succumb to the dizziness and will be able to punt a soda can into a trash bin 20 feet away, no problem. Sit-down with a star: Interview a player from a team that is not your own that is in the playoffs. You must ask them four questions and at least three must relate to the league in some way. (Can be completed at any point) Hey Ben(@iseedoug), I missed playing out the rest of the season in San Jose with you, and Nax certainly missed you coming over as well. But, we did have a fun time back in Tijuana and enjoyed being reunited with the Luchas - you should come back and visit sometime! Anywho, I had some questions for you, as a fellow Lucha alum, SJS teammate, and defensive player. Q1: This season for San Jose saw a lot of new talent on the field, including Deringer, our new rookie LB. How do you feel about this new guy getting so much press over you, who have been with SJS for so many seasons and are a high-earning, high-impact LB at this point? I mean he deserves the press, heck he deserves rookie of the year in my opinion. While statistically we are playing very similarly, he is doing it early in his career. So, definitely deserved. I hope he keeps it up. I think we could be the best linebacker duo in S11. Q2: Who from the current rookie class would you think could help out the SJS defense? The Luchadores had some pretty blowout wins during the playoffs, so that defense is clearly doing something right. I love what Tana Keita did for the Luchadores this year. Great Linebacker play all season, including some great performances in the playoffs. He would make our already solid linebacker core even better. But with no picks in the first 2 rounds, it is doubtful we can get him, easily a top 3 pick in this class, and we know NOLA is scouting him heavily. On the other hand, there is a lot of depth in this class, so maybe we can pick up some solid players late. Q3: You just signed another contract with the Sabercats - a one year extension - when you could have evaluated some other teams. Was it a hard choice to stay given the past and other teams’ successes in the NSFL? Or are you optimistic that SJS is nearing the end of the rebuild era? The Cats have so much young talent and a great locker room culture. It is hard not to see future success in that. I think there are a lot of teams I could play well on, and maybe get a ring sooner than later, but I have a clear role on this team, and want to help bring this team back to its winning ways. Q4: Looking 5-10 years down the road, do you think you’ll battle with regression? Will you retire early in your golden years and dabble in something else, or maybe pick up the playbook and start coaching? I am going to play until I can’t anymore. I want to set NSFL records, and one of the best ways to do that is have a long career. So, I am going to strive to keep up my training and perform at a high level even late in my career. Also, there is no reason to go into coaching if I have to compete with Epictitus Milburn and Icy Douglas ever. Those guys are lights out. (Can be completed at any point) with Ben Horne @iseedoug Ultimus Week - S10 - Moosecop - 10-06-2018 PBE PT Unsung Hero The Ultimus Game featured a rematch from Season 9 with the Baltimore Hawks facing off against the New Orleans Second Line. The game was close with tons of players having fantastic games including the likes of Blocksdale, Maximus, Taylor, Law, and Bush. Turk Turkelton Hawks kicker, however, had an amazing game himself. Nobody appreciates a great kicker until they no longer have one, they're the heroes one week and the villain the next. Fortunately for Turkelton, he's been able to have a great career to this point for the Hawks and was able to have himself a lights-out game on the brightest stage in football. Turk was responsible for 17 of his team's 29 total points, including a string of 4 field goals in a row in the 2nd and 3rd quarters bringing his team back into the lead. Overall he managed to finish the game hitting every kick he was put on the field to take. He was 5 for 5 on field goal attempts and 2 for 2 on his point after touchdown kicks. The Baltimore offense did it's best to give him good field position but we all know that no kick should be taken for granted no matter where it's being hit from but they knew they could rely on Turkelton as they have done for years now. Playoff Review In the ASFC title game, we had the Orange County Otters visiting the defending champion Second Line in New Orleans. I'm sure lots of people expected NOLA to blow the Otters out of the building due to OCO's offense being, quite frankly, not good, especially after trading away superstar wideout Carlito Crush to NOLA, but that didn't turn out to be the case. The Otters managed to hold NOLA to just 10 points over the course of the game even though OCO handed over 70 yards in penalties. Smallwood caught a pass out of the backfield for a touchdown and Peg Leg kicked a field goal and that was all they needed to close out the 10-3 game to send NOLA back to the title game. In the NSFC we had the complete opposite, a shootout between the Yeti and Hawks offenses. Ryan Applehort did his best to will his team to a victory but it just wasn't enough. He threw for 4 touchdowns, 3 of them going to Dwayne Aaron, but unfortunately also handed the ball to the Baltimore defense twice, one of them going back for a pick-6. Baltimore was much more secure with the ball and didn't turn it over once. Blocksdale threw for 2 TDs and ran for 1 to bring his squad to the Ultimus again. The Ultimus was a rematch of Season 9 between the Hawks and the Second Line. Both teams were secure with the ball and didn't have any turnovers and the score went back and forth all game. NOLA's defense made plenty of stops but wasn't able to force enough punts to win. Too many drives ended in their own half which allowed Turkleton to essentially kick the Hawks to their first title. New Talent Before Week 9 the Baltimore Hawks made a trade with the Philadelphia Liberty in an effort to bring home their first Ultimus. The Liberty sent over star wide receiver Carter Bush and a 4th rounder in exchange for a 3rd round draft pick. Good move for both teams at the time. As for how much of a difference Carter Bush made? Well, you'll have to look at his trophy cabinet to find out. He joined an already loaded receiving corps in Baltimore that included the likes of Trey Wilie, Budda Browning, Verso L'Alto, and Declan Harp which just created even more of a nightmare for defenses to have to deal with, which isn't even accounting for superstar running back Owen Taylor. This was proven in the NSFC matchup against the Yeti. Blocksdale had so many target and was able to spread the ball around wherever he wanted. 5 of his receivers were able to haul in at least 4 receptions with 4 of them getting over 60 yards. Even Taylor was able to make 7 catches out of the backfield. In the Ultimus Bush had an amazing individual game. He caught 7 passes for 102 yards, including a 33 yard touchdown. So Bush himself was able to put up great numbers in bringing home a title to Baltimore, but he was also able to open up the passing game for his teammates. Ultimus Week - S10 - iseedoug - 10-06-2018 Unsung Hero The Luchadores made history this season by winning their 3rd straight Ultimini Championship. The game was effectively a blowout, with a final score of 37 to 7. While many point to the powerful offense for putting up 37 points on a solid Python defense, but the unsung hero of the game was the Tijuana defensive unit. The game started out with a quick touchdown from the Pythons, not the way the Luchadores defense wanted to start the first drive of the game. The Luchadores answered by scoring points themselves. At this point the game looked like it would be a nail biter. This is where our unsung hero comes in. From this point on, the Luchadores defensive unit, lead by rookie LB Tana Keita, shut down QB Joliet Christ and the high powered Pythons offense. Not only did this defensive unit not allow anymore points in the game, but they held the Pythons to under 100 yards rushing and under 150 yards passing. This defense allowed the luchadore offense, to relax and run the clock (giving veteran RB Ricky Flores 114 yards and 2 TDs on the game). While this defensive unit hasn’t got the attention it deserves, players like Keita, Robertson, Oats, Dugnutt, and Troyski will go down in DSFL history as the defensive unit that brought a 3peat to Mexico. Hate the player or the game Hate the game. S10 felt like a comeback season the San Jose Sabercats. The team would not only be bringing in a former Ultimus winning QB, but also bringing up a stacked draft class from the previous season, including DSFL stars Flash, Poopsie, and Deringer, and starting newly drafted players like DSFL star WR Oles. Further, S8 defensive centerpiece Horne was coming off of a solid offseason and long-time veterans Canton and Brill were still playing at a high level. This influx of young talent and proven veterans seemed like the formula for success, but the team would find themselves behind in the playoff race early, winning only 1 game out of their first 6. And sadly, many of these games were not close, being out scored 186 to 98 in those first 6 games. This early losing streak would mean the later half of the season would need to be excellent or the Otters would need to bomb. The cats would win 4 games total in the season while the Otters would end up winning 7 and the Outlaws winning 4, one of which would be a 50 to 6 win over the Cats in a late season game. The hope is next season will make up for this down year, with DSFL QB Christ and CB Troyski being brought up, as well as a much improved defensive unit, with Deringer coming off of a possible Rookie of the Year season and Horne setting a statistical career high season. S11 should prove to be critical for the Sabercats franchise. Sit down with a star Was your midseason move back to the DSFL worth it? I think it definitely was. While I was called up after my only season in the DSFL and got a chance to workout and train in the big leagues, I just wasn’t getting the same level of playing time as I did in the DSFL, and I think that prevented me from really putting to use what I was learning in training. So, by being able to go back to the Luchadores, it gave me a chance to keep working on my skills, have some fun, and grow as a player. With long time Sabercats CB Canton retiring, you will be given a starting role in the NSFL. How are you going to fill a veteran’s shoes right away? I’m not going to lie - it will definitely be tough to take Canton’s place. I watched him start this season, and he still had most of what made him such a great CB. So, hopefully watching Canton, working with Poopsie in the offseason, all that DSFL training, and stepping up my runs and agility training will help give be a better NSFL debut next season. What are your hopes for both yourself and the Sabercats in S11? After winning two Ultimini’s with Tijuana, I would love to bring that streak just up the coast to San Jose and bring the fans what they’ve been craving. Personally, I’d like to make some good plays, keep up with the best of the best, and put enough defensive pressure that Christ and the offense can go out there and get us some W’s. So, hear Nax is getting quite famous in the Twitterverse, how is he handling the fame? Ha yes, he totally is getting famous. I don’t think he’s letting it get to his head, although he has been spoiled by some endorsements by dog treat companies. Mostly, it’s made it easier for us to arrange doggie playdates and sleepovers when I’m out of town - there are so many people who want to hang out with him! Can be completed at any point The Yellowknife Wraiths finished S10 with an 8-6 record. Realistically for a team that naysayers projected to be a sub 6 win team, they really went up and above and overachieved considering the considerably large holes in their roster... but at the same time they did get robbed out of the playoffs. The Colorado Yeti finished in the 2nd playoff seed with a 9-5 record but have a look in Yellowknife schedule. The Wraiths started S10 with three consecutive losses on the bounce, A loss to Baltimore, Arizona and New Orleans. 2/3 of those were auto losses, I'll give you that but YKW could've easily beaten Arizona if they had truly performed on the day. Their next loss was against Baltimore, again fair enough. A shock loss to bottom feeders San Jose pretty much doomed their fate, a 4 win team beats you in their hometown. Then a monumental chokejob/collapse to the Yeti saw them drop yet another W in Week 13. Had they beaten San Jose who they were heavy favourites to defeat, we would've seen yet another playoff appearence for the spooky boys, it would've been especially spooky seeing how we are after all in Spooktober. The most wonderful time of the year. Who robbed Yellowknife? Yellowknife robbed Yellowknife. Playoff Series MVP: Choose an MVP for one of the playoff series and write about why you chose them. Must be completed after the playoff series you write about Let's have a look at the Ultimus game shall we? Considering it's the freshest in recent memory for everybody on the Yellowknife Wraiths, especially because we all watched it from the couch in the team facilities, to make sure everybody knew just how much of a failure we were this season. You'd be daft to think that Baltimore's one year Philly rental wide receiver, Carter Bush wasn't the MVP of the ultimus. Bush ended the game not only with the first Ultimus ring of his young career but also 7 catches for 102 receiving yards and 1 touchdown. Bush continously moved the chains with ease whenever it looked like the Baltimore offense was stalling out. Especially when the New Orleans Second Line defense would double or even triple cover Avon Blocksdale's favourite wide receiver, Trey Willie. Balttimore finally dropped the label as post season choke artists and claimed their first ever Ultimus championship in franchise history, with much thanks to Blocksdale, Willie, their stout defense and of course the MVP of the series, Carter Bush at wide receiver. Now looking forward to Bush's likely return to the Philadelphia Liberty this coming offseason, one must wonder if Baltimore will seek a replacement or a big name in FA to make up for his abscence as they attempt to become back to back Ultimus champions. Sit-down with a star:Interview a player from a team that is not your own that is in the playoffs. You must ask them four questions and at least three must relate to the league in some way. Why do you think all three games ended up with NOLA taking an L? Honestly, the three games we lost, we just didn't have the big play ability that they had. The Wraiths one was the most disheartening for this team just because we were trying to get home field advantage. They all absolutely sting. Baltimore is a tough team, so that one was bad to lose, but we were within a big play. NOLA were odds on favourites of repeating and doing the Ultimus double prior to the beginning of the season, obviously you guy's didn't repeat but getting to back to back Ultimus is still quite a feat. Going forward what's the plan for S11? The plan for this year is to do more of the same. We have been a team that has seen a ton of success with our offense. We get stronger with this draft as well as losing Jackson but we have some plans to make things more interesting. We will be back. Baltimore famously picked up a one year rental in the form of Philly's wide receiver Carter Bush who balled out. Do you feel this might've been the edge that Baltimore had over NOLA? Honestly, Bush had a great game, but they had the big play ability that we just did not have in the game. We had the ball on their side of the field with a chance to win. That's really what I asked. We put in everything, so I don't think Bush was the difference. If we played again, it would probably be a different result. Just how many years do you have left in the tank in the NSFL? Well, I am telling you that Bayley is starting to look at houses in the Outer Banks, so we will see how long that process takes. Link to the interviewers PT to receive credit. NOTE: THEY MUST POST THE QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS FOR YOU TO GET CREDIT. (Can be completed at any point) 1. Lavelle is coming off one of his most impressive seasons. What was your approach going into the season? While this season for me was the best of my career, my approach was identical to the past 8 seasons I have already spent in the league. I'm a team first player and really any individual accolades or records don't really do it for me. It's dissapointing to finish S10, 1 win shy of another franchise playoff bout but that's football. I can only put the same level of work ethic into the next 3-4 seasons and try and push the guys around me to do the same. If we get everybody pulling in the same direction, there's no reason we can't win it all....again. 2. Question on everyone's mind, when is the time to hang up the cleats? I'm going to play as long as I can at this level. I want to make sure that all the effort and hard work that I've put in over the number of years pays off in helping Yellowknife achieve great things. Unlike alot of guys here, I don't foresee my kids or anybody else from my family playing after me in the NSFL. Once Lavelle's time is done, there won't be a Lavelle Jr. or a Lavelle II. 3. What does the Spookies need to do to get into the playoffs? Really we need to hit free agency strong this season because obviously there's some clear holes in our roster. We also need to get some great guys out of the S11 NSFL Draft that can be a foundation for the franchise going forward in time. 4. What is one thing you wished you did this year that you didn't? I really wish we didn't lose to San Jose in the regular season, sure we lost to a few other teams including the Yeti in our 2nd last week of the regular season. But losing to the lolcow of the league in San Jose, really killed our playoff chances. @`BayleyIsland` for both Q's and A's Ultimus Week - S10 - LGMForever - 10-06-2018 1. Playoff Series MVP: Despite the listing by the index's box score that has stated Borkus Maximus III as the offensive player of the game in the Ultimus match, I actually disagree that for a good bit. Although he has a good argument for being more of a MVP than the guy I actually picked, I've never been a fan of making a player on the losing team as the most valuable player of that match because they didn't lead to the victory of their team. With that in mind, my pick of MVP for the Ultimus game has to go to the Hawks' quarterback, Avon Blocksdale. In his most important game of the season, Blocksdale had 383 passing yards throughout the game that would result in 14 out of the 29 total points earned by the Hawks. Out of the 40 attempted passes by the quarterback, a very respectable 27 of them were successful and resulted in yards. While his quarterback adversary recorded 12.8 yards per completed pass, Blocksdale managed to best him in that category by recording 14.2 yards per completed pass to his teammates on the field. It is evident that without their esteemed quarterback, the Hawks wouldn't have made as great of a run as they did and claim the Ultimus trophy for all the league to see. 2. Unsung Hero I'm gonna start off by saying that this discussion of an unsung hero is more so for the Ultimus match than the playoffs itself. Still, what's the point of making your way through the playoffs if you don't win it all in the game that matters most, right? With that, I think it's safe to say that a severely unsung hero of the playoffs for the Baltimore Hawks is Turk Turkleton. This is hardly anything that is really surprising, as elite kickers and punters are never as marveled by the fans as the elite quarterbacks and elite wide receivers are. However, what Turk Turkleton did for the Hawks in the Ultimus is absolutely astounding and it's hard to say for certain if they may have even won without him and just another kicker in action. In the Hawk's 29-23 win over the Second Line, it is clear that this wasn't a blow out of any kind. With that, Turkleton ended up kicking five successful field goals out of his five opportunities to score 15 points in a game where the Hawks only won by six. The fact that he contributed to more than half of the points that the Hawks earned in total is crazy and that earns him the title of an unsung hero without a doubt. 3. That Magic Moment: With two hulking titans approaching each other in the Ultimus match after dominating in their own respective conferences, it was anyone's game and it wouldn't have come as much of a shock for any of them to come away with the trophy. The Baltimore Hawks finished the regular season with a 13-1-0 record while the New Orleans Second Line finished with an 11-3-0 record. A close game was to be expected and that came into full effect by the five minute mark at the third quarter. The score was 23-19 with the Hawks trailing the Second Line. The line of scrimmage was only three yards away and a touchdown would've brought the Hawks ahead of their opponents with only needing to defend the lead. It may have only been the first down but New Orleans was well known for their extraordinary for their defense and there was a solid chance that they could squander the Hawks' fire in the third quarter. However, magic happened when quarterback Avon Blocksdale passed to Trey Willie for a successful touchdown on only the first down, bringing the score to 26-23. This would remain unchanged except for a rogue field goal in the fourth quarter to raise the Hawks' lead to 29-23 and win them the Ultimus. 4. PBE PT Affiliation |
