(S1) - Weekend PT #2 - Media Frenzy - Player1 - 06-11-2017 Does He Have the Wright Stuff? Many draft analysts were critical of the Otters decision to sleep on Tight End in the draft, and even more so when they finally chose their man in the 18th round. Bulky Tight End George Wright Jr. looks more like a lineman on the field than a Tight End, as he is both shorter and heavier than his counterparts across the league. Wright showed off his tools of the trade this preseason, accumulating 7 pancake blocks and catching the sole touchdown in the opening week. That may not be enough for an offense that has appeared anemic through the preseason, as Wright was not a major passing target and even with his assistance in run blocking the Otters RBs struggled to get production. Orange County will depend on all of their skill position players this season, and Wright especially will have to be a safety valve for a young Quarterback and a critical component of the team's run first scheme. Wright has already taken steps in that direction, spending more time training with the O-line and adding bulk to his already hefty frame. He now weighs in as the heaviest Tight End in the league and the team hopes that the added strength will improve his blocking as well as his ability to truck after the catch. It's doubtful that George Wright Jr. will be the leading receiver at his position, but he had better step it up if he wants to be anything more than an after thought. The fastest defensive tackles in the NSFL have started to pull themselves ahead of the rest of the rushers of the same position. What does this mean for the rest of the league? Well this definitely means that the interior lineman in the NSFL are much too slow and that there needs to be increased attempts to help these players keep up with the blazing fast Defensive Tackles. With teams electing to put their top lineman on the edges - Defense Tackles have become the most dangerous defenders on the field. With a change to moving the best lineman to the center of the line to slow the Defensive Tackles down, we might start to see Defensive Ends and Outside Linebackers beginning to feast. So what this boils down to is that the lineman in the NSFL are much too slow and need some help to get them performing on a level comparable to the defensive rushers. Being a lineman in the league is already a thankless job and to let them be taken advantage of like this would be a shame. The league needs to take this seriously and come to a remedy before offensive lineman start to bolt for other opportunities. Speed needs to be reigned in and strength needs to be more highly valued. (231 Words)[/div] (S1) - Weekend PT #2 - Media Frenzy - Noppadet - 06-11-2017 Regular season starting! On Monday June 12, 2017 the NSFL will commence their very first regular season games! This is an exciting time as both a player and for fans of the league. Players will get a chance to test their mettle outside the preseason to see how they react to real game time decisions. All of the preparation, the time, and the effort of everyone will finally come together to get the league started off. Stephen Harrison from the Baltimore Hawks chimes in with his perspective: "You know I'm just really looking forward to getting out and, lacing up, and hitting some guys". Well Stephen that's some really hard hitting analysis (excuse the pun). Players: Make sure you update your TPE before the update happens if you want to start your player off on the right foot for game 1. As a reminder you can see exactly how each stats affects your specific position here, as well as how much it affects what your player does in the post just above it: http://nsfl.jcink.net/index.php?showtopic=...=findpost&p=159 Look forward to some exciting games, and of course some exciting post game discussion after the games are complete. This reporter is looking forward to some excellent game play from all parties involved. (S1) - Weekend PT #2 - Media Frenzy - WinstonKodogo - 06-11-2017 Stephen Harris in hot water? With the season due to begin soon the Baltimore Hawks may be having second thoughts about punter Stephen Harris who has been caught behind the wheel by local state troopers with an open container of beer sitting on the passenger seat of his PT Cruiser. When prompted to do a breathalyser test Harris became belligerent and swore at the troopers demanding a sobriety test instead and repeatedly asking them if they knew who he was. Footage from the state troopers dash cam was leaked online and shows Harris shouting "you'll never get me a live coppers" and attempting to run away then promptly falling over and have the troopers jump on him before he could make another bid for freedom, Harris is also seen attempting to fight off the officers only to receive a jolt from a taser. To add further insult to injury to the Baltimore punter a cut and bruised mugshot of Stephen Harris appeared online soon after the footage from the dash cam. We understand that to avoid doing time in prison young Harris was invited to take part in a group sobriety meeting 2 times a month and also conduct talks in local high schools about the dangers of drink driving. (S1) - Weekend PT #2 - Media Frenzy - RavensFanFromOntario - 06-11-2017 Running Back Controversy in Yellowknife: Rumours abound have floated of a controversy in the great white North of Yellowknife. Before the season, everybody would have walked into it going the unanimous number one back of the Wraiths was General Manager Bubba Nuck. That "fact" doesn't seem to be so unanimous anymore after they selected power running back Jack Stats. A late round pick, it didn't seem like there would be any kind of running back controversy still. Nuck was considered a generation talent at halfback with Stats being more of an after thought. However pre-season rolled around and the two backs put up similar numbers with their yards being separated by around 10 yards. Stats put up tremendous touchdown totals being a feature goal line back even when playing backup. It's given the GM tandem of Nuck and Varga something to consider when seeing who should play more minutes, your franchise talent or your late round draft pick who's been an incredible surprise. It's a pleasant dilemma that's still going to be headache inducing for the head office to figure out but nonetheless, expect the Wraiths to have a potent rushing attack and to maintain their pre-season hype as one of the top teams in the league. WC: 207 (S1) - Weekend PT #2 - Media Frenzy - Deusolis - 06-11-2017 What the San Jose Sabercats were expecting from the 64th overall pick is known only by the team’s brain trust and God. Perhaps a depth piece for a top-heavy linebacking corps or potential trade bait. What they got? A player not even the big General Manager in the sky could have seen coming. Across the entire preseason slate, 11th round pick A.C. Hackett has posted a very solid thirty tackles, good for second on the team. He also had five tackles for a loss, which is especially impressive considering he plays most of his snaps dropped back into a zone. Not content to rest on his laurels, A.C. has been hitting both the tackling sled and the weight room, working to improve aspects of his game that are relative weaknesses. Of course, from the team’s perspective, any progression from Hackett is gravy considering that the heart and soul of the team lines up next to him. Fourth-overall pick Alexander Selich is unquestionably one of the team’s leaders, a status borne out of his stellar on-field play. Over the preseason Selich posted an astonishing thirty-nine tackles, although only one for a loss. And in a 15-13 victory over the Colorado Yeti, Selich recorded four passes defended and two interceptions, a line that would make even the league’s finest defensive backs blush. With an ascending mid-round player and a blue-chip talent, there’s no question that the Sabercats linebacking corps is rock-solid, and, to quote many a defensive coordinator, as the linebackers go, so to goes the defense. If the conventional wisdom holds true, the Sabercats should shine on the less glamorous side of the ball Words:273 (S1) - Weekend PT #2 - Media Frenzy - JBLAZE_THE_BOSS - 06-11-2017 The Otters QB controversy was at the forefront of the pre season storylines. The battle between three men, Boss, Berovichi, and Hunt was one that the entire sports world had their eyes on. All three men had different strengths to their game, and the way it all played out was somewhat strange. Boss played the first two games and sat the final two, as the Otters were undefeated under his watch and defeated when he was not the QB. While the other two men performed decently enough, the consensus now is that Boss has won the starting position. This doesn't mean the other two guys are out of town, as there may still be considerable depth at the QB position in Orange County for this season, at least. Will there be trades down the line? That's certainly a possibility. The men will continue to battle on a week by week basis and whoever performs the best will end up getting the starting job for the next game. Boss is starting now, but who will be starting in the Otters' final game this season? This preseason storyline will play throughout the entire year. The eyes of the football Gods will be fixated in Orange County for the forseeable future. 213 words (S1) - Weekend PT #2 - Media Frenzy - ADwyer87 - 06-11-2017 [div align=\\\"center\\\"]Arizona in Trouble?[/div] Arizona had a bad preseason obviously. Going 0-4 is going to be bad for any team. But what will they look like moving forward? The media has been talking about their doom now for a while. After disruption talk between management and first round pick Mayran Jackson, the media has questioned GM Bogdan Podarok's abilities to lead a team. Before the preseason started, Co-GM Brady Stropko announced he would be taking a lesser role in the organization after disagreements with league ownership. This makes them look like a big bunch of dysfunctional players and staff that wont make the playoffs this year. The other players have been quick to bash the Outlaws as well. Easily the most hated team in the NSFL so far for some reason, other players have been quick to label their squad as the worst in the league. The secondary has bee labeled as awful despite having many top players, and people have called guys inactive despite clearly not being so. The players are unwavered, however. Podarok says he has never lost faith in his team for a second. Mayran Jackson still is confident their secondary is the best in the league, Stormblessed leads the league in receiving yards in the preseason, Vincent Draxel says he is going to be 10x better in the regular season, and the running back core has an envious rotation. It will be interesting to see how everything plays out. (S1) - Weekend PT #2 - Media Frenzy - Jiggly_333 - 06-12-2017 Trouble in Paradise? The preseason is a time for teams to reconsider their lineups and it's no different this year for the Orange County Otters. Drafted at 49th and 60th, respectively, Omar Wright and Leroy Jenkins know their roles. With Omar taking the brunt of the rushes with his speed and Leroy pounding it in, the Otters had a clear gameplan. That all got thrown out the window after the first two weeks of the preseason. While yardage was never in question, the compared yards per carry left some analysts with a question: Can Jenkins possibly be better than Wright? You see, in only 8 carries in his first game, Jenkins had 6 yards per carry. Wright on the other hand, only averaged 3.7 yards on 28 carries. While many statistically inclined fans may chalk this up to a smaller sample size, the next week Jenkins once again outperformed Wright in that stat. The Otters management decided to make a slight change and give the ball just a bit more to Jenkins. Although the difference between the two players grew smaller, it was the big man who was still ahead on now half the carries that Wright had. This brings up a question asked in the draft: Can Leroy Jenkins’ power back style earn him a feature back role? Only time can tell. (S1) - Weekend PT #2 - Media Frenzy - Jogn - 06-12-2017 During the draft, Hawaii Offensive Lineman Jogn Floggity made it clear that he wanted to be drafted somewhere warm, and with a rollercoaster. It must have been a suprise then, when he heard his name called as the second pick of the 5th round, 26th overall by the Yellowknife Wraiths, the third lineman off the board - and just one pick after the Orange County Otters selected Wisconsin's Angus Winchester. Floggity claims that his earlier comments about Yellowknife being a "5 coffee-house-ass hick town" should be taken in jest, but it does seem clear to this reporter that Wraiths management had to open up the bank account to get him to commit to the Northwest Territories - Floggity is currently the highest earning player in a single season. Floggity's offseason was quiet - while he vastly outpreformed the two other players who regularly lined up at center (Tim Tebow of the Sabercats and Saggitariutt Jefferspin of the Outlaws), he failed to record double-digit pancakes, and finished 7th in Adjusted Sack Total. When asked, Floggity had this to say: “Look, the Lions destroyed all 4 of their preseason games in 2008, and we all remember how that ended up. I’m proud of my performances, and I wouldn't trade my statline for the competition. My aim is to finish without giving up a yard, and I'm on track for that" Only time will tell if Floggity will pick up his performance or simply coast in an offense that may need everything it has to beat back the resurgent Baltimore Hawks. For now, I'm Tim Fenn, News/North. |
