Doesn't matter what level of football you're talking about; punters get no love. As of this writing, there is only one special teams player in the NSFL Hall of Fame (the great Turk Turkleton). However, did you know that there is a player who actually has more Punter of the Year awards than Turkleton? His name is Dean Jackson. Jackson is the record holder with an unmatched 4x NSFL Punter of the Year awards. He was also the S6 NSFL Kicker of the Year and an 8-time Pro Bowler. If you want to talk about statistics, Jackson has the record for the highest single game punting average (65 yards) and the record for career punting yards (46,017), and he is second overall in career field goals made. He has almost everything you're looking for in a Hall of Fame resume in terms of individual awards and massive statistics. The only thing he doesn't have is a championship, but I mean, let's be real...if you're punting that much, your team is probably bad.

I don't think there is anybody that would deny that Dean Jackson is in the top 2 or top 3 best special teamers of all time in the NSFL (along with Turkleton and the still-active Kulture Fulture). Put this guy in the Hall. As Sam Koch, Pat McAfee, and Johnny Hekker would say: "Punters are people too!"

I'm going to be honest...I've been part of the NSFL for 9 months now and during that time I have completely neglected to research the past players who helped grow the league. I ended up reading all the submissions before me and actually began to learn quite a bit more about our little league. So the guy I picked is a guy who just missed the ballot this season and thats season 6 LB Brian Mills. After putting up a record breaking 142 tackles in a DSFL season for Tijuana, Mills become the number one overall pick in the 2021 Draft to NOLA. The guy was a consistent force during his 9 seasons playing for the Second Line and Yeti. During his tenure he compiled 403 tackles, 49 pass deflections, 8 interceptions, 30 sacks and even scored a defensive touchdown. Mills finest moment came during the 2024 season when he helped lead the Second Line to an Ultimus victory over the Baltimore Hawks. Mills also doubled up on his responsibilities and became coach of his beloved Tijuana Luchadores for a season while also starring in the NSFL. Overall Mills was just a solid contributor and and all around active member who absolutely deserves further consideration come next years Hall of Fame ballot.

Mason Blaylock should be in the DSFL Hall of Fame (assuming such a thing would/could ever exist). For those who don’t know, Mason is a free safety that played his first season for the Kansas City Coyotes and his second season for the Tijuana Luchadores. In that timespan, he had his fair share of impactful plays and accolades, including Season 18 Defensive Rookie of the Year. Mason’s case for the Hall of Fame doesn’t lie in his stats on defense, though. The case for him to make it in would be on his return game prowess.
In his rookie season, he had the most return yards of any rookie, only being outdone by second year players and up. While his kick return numbers were not world beating, his punt return game was on point. He outran every rookie by a mile and finished 3rd overall in yards. He also had two punt returns for touchdown which is a Coyote team record.
In his sophomore season, Mason was picked second overall to Tijuana in the contraction draft. He didn’t waste any time getting to work in the return game again. Once again, his kick return numbers were only just above average, but his punt returns were head and shoulders above the rest. He set a team record with 130 punt yards early in the season. Mason then got up to a total of 280 in the first four games, a mark that is the highest in the league ever in such a span (I don’t this 100%, but it seems extremely unlikely to be beaten given season totals). It looked like he was on pace to destroy any punt records held before him, but then teams started avoiding him. For the rest of the season, Mason got two or less returns in almost every game. He passed the team record for punt returns the second to last game of the season but lost in the last week. He only got 1 return and lost a couple yards, taking his accolade away. Regardless, he played at a level that few returners in the DSFL ever had. In the conference championship, Blaylock posts 4 returns for 95 yards with one going for 68 yards and a touchdown. His return career saw set 3 team records in the return game while tying another 2. He wound up with 4 return touchdowns as well. I think it’s safe to say Mason Blaylock is one of the best returners we’ve ever seen in the DSFL.

The NSFL hall of fame is sparse of true Defensive End talent, with only Fuego Wozy as a true Defensive End in the Hall. So, the real question is, why is 2 time MVP and Defensive Player of the Year, 3 time DE of the year, all time leader for tackles for loss and 4th on the all-time sack list, Jayce Tuck not in the Hall of fame?

From the very start of the league he was a force to be reckoned with for the Arizona outlaws winning DE of the year his first 3 seasons he was with the Outlaws and MVP twice, being one of the only 2 defensive players to win an individual MVP award. This in addition to leading the Outlaws to the first 3 Ultimus Championships in the league’s history. Following on from his time from Arizona he moved to Yellowknife where he won another Ultimus in S8 to cap an illustrious career. While his year in New Orleans was not quite as successful, it was another Ultimus appearance and proof that Tuck was a true competitor and elevated every team he played for.

His 106 sacks places him in elite company in 4th all time, with Hall of Fame talent surrounding him, and his 113 TFL is a full 15 above second place in Hall of Famer Fuego Wozy. In week 6 of S4 he made 7 TFL in a single game which is a record that stands to this day. But somehow, he was snubbed in the 2026 Hall of fame induction with only 6/13 votes. When looking back at older players who should be in the hall, Tuck seems an obvious choice as one of the original terrors of the Defensive End position.

If there is one player who should be in the NSFL Hall of Fame, it is this year’s snub, Brian Mills. Mills enjoyed an illustrious career playing Linebacker in the NSFL. Some of Mills career highlights include racking up a whopping 134 tackles in the 2027 NSFL season, this is 5th most all time in one season. Mills also would Tally 15 career forced fumbles (this putting him 3rd all time). Not only was Mills a beast as an individual, but he was also a great team player. In S11 he would lead the Second line defense to an Ultimus title. Four years later, in S15, he would help Baltimore win a title using is Veteran presence. This year Mills received 6 out of the 12 votes needed to make it into the Hall of Fame. Fortunately for the integrity of the league, he will get another shot to be voted in on the next ballot. I would urge the voters not to make the same mistake twice in leaving Mills out. However, if for some reason Mills is snubbed again, I would highly question bribery within the voters. We all know that these things can tend to get political at times. Or maybe the Hall of Fame just isn’t a place for the true grit, no nonsensical approach that Mills brought to the game. If they want a flashy loudmouth player, this simply isn’t their guy. In the end, time will tell. Hopefully Mills will see his number in rafters sooner than later.

Someone that I feel should be inducted into the Hall of Fame is someone that I originally came in seeing as a mentor when I first joined the league. Of course, that is the famed, Cameron Olsen, the San Jose tight end extraordinaire. Everyone that has been in the league for a couple of seasons has seen the crazy skill level of Olsen and knows just what he is capable of. His recent retirement left many confused at first until the cheesy appearance of Monty Jack came. It was a retirement out of necessity, but the accolades for Olsen are there to prove his worth.

Cameron Olsen only graced Tight End of the year once in 2032 but has constantly been a factor that kept San Jose alive. Sometimes he was the only driving force on offense for the team that at one point was Ultimus champions. The only low year in Olsen’s career was in S18 which is also the only year he was moved to flex back. Even in that year he managed to beat out the regular tight ends with his stats and proved he was a work horse with San Jose right up until the end of his career.

Not to be confused with the alter-ego of famous rapper Eminem, Slim Shady is a running back who entered the DSFL in season 11 being drafted by the Portland Pythons. The next season, Shady was drafted into the NSFL by the Arizona Outlaws, but also spent time later in his career playing for the Orange County Otters. During his tenure in the league, Shady has made and achieved some outstanding positions on record boards and has the stats to back up a bid for the "Real" Slim Shady to stand up and enter into the Hall of Fame.

As an Ultimus champion in S16 with the Outlaws and yet again in S19 with the Otters and even a one time Ultimini in S11 with the Pythons - the argument that he lacks team hardware does not carry any weight.

As far as personal accolades, Shady holds the third, and seventh all time season records for rushing yards, is in fifth place all time for career rushing touchdowns and fourth all time in career rushing yards. Finally, Slim Shady is a four time probowler and carried the ball 1925 times in his career, good for fourth all time.

While Shady has been snubbed for the Hall of Fame in the past, given his outstanding team history and personal accolades - he has a chance to be an entry in on a ballot in the future.
