RE: (S24) - PT 5 - Trade Ya - Goat_Whisperer - 09-08-2020 This is more than likely mentioned already, but I think it could be fun and cool to add little ´fun facts´ to each card. The fact could be related to the player somehow, especially since the game of football is a international sport, having some information about the players native country could be a great way to educate the people. The fact could also be something funny, a short story about the player doing this or that in the past, often we don't really know that much about the players who we watch every week. One similar idea on the whole fun aspect could be to have the players to give a quote of their own that will be added into the card, like those yearbook quotes. I think that would offer a lot of fun and in similar fashion the fans would get to know bit more about the players and their personality through the quotes. Finally, make special cards that are rare. If you turn or shake the card the picture changes or something along those lines. If some player is terrible in the playoffs, you could use modern technology and make the card smell certain way. Or if some player is never injured, make the card out of material that is extremely durable. Main point is to offer something extra on top of the traditional information you find in the cards. RE: (S24) - PT 5 - Trade Ya - 37thchamber - 09-08-2020 Most of you will be unaware that PDXBaller and I had started developing a trading card system a while ago before we both got too busy to see it through to completion. There was a basic framework already in place though, and really the main stumbling block was actually designing the cards themselves. Now that this issue seems to have been addressed, we have a new trading card system in place, which seems to work alright. However, I think the current system could take on some aspects of what we had as possible improvements. For example, the pack purchase limit seems low. If the aim is to take money out of the league economy, it's not allowing enough money to come out. It also appears impossible to actually collect all cards before they get discontinued. As a means to potentially get around this, I would suggest implementing a "coin" system where you trade ISFL dollars for coins, which are then used within the trading card economy. This was the model we had in place, because we figured it gives more freedom to adjust deposit limits and so on if you're concerned about richer users just buying a ton of packs straight away -- though I don't see the harm here, given that trading hasn't been implemented yet so there's not any real advantage to be gleaned in that sense. The idea when we talked about this currency exchange was that we could then build achievements into the system that reward players with packs and/or coins. Redeem codes were implemented to allow one-off rewards for players, too, and all of this would encourage people to engage more with the trading card system. By having this exchange mechanism, there's no need for a weekly limit. Let people exchange as much cash for coins as they want, but then if you're concerned about some users buying way more packs or whatever, just implement soft limits, by increasing pack costs beyond certain thresholds (e.g. if a pack is 10 coins, and the exchange rate is 50k per coin; 10 coins per pack up to 5 packs, then 20 per pack up to the tenth pack, 40 per pack up to the twentieth, etc etc) -- and this can easily be done automatically within the system -- to both increase the money coming out of the economy and sort of level the playing field between the richer users and everyone else because going beyond the default allowance starts to get exponentially more expensive. Sort of like how training costs in sim leagues are often *less* efficient at higher prices. Trading itself was a controversial idea when we first talked about this concept, because some see it as a means to effectively smuggle cash between users. But if you're doing trading cards, it's kind of necessary. Now, if all cards are bought with a separate currency (coins), which can't be converted back to ISFL dollars... there's no danger of that. You can also easily prevent lopsided deals since it's trivial to assign a value to each rarity, then you can just make it so the two sides of a trade must be within a certain percentage of each other's value. Beyond all of this, the original plan was to create a sort of "Ultimate Team" game within a game. Each card had attributes, depending on rarity and position etc. The end goal was to create a stripped down "sim" that allowed users to build their own "ultimate team" and pit them against others. The logic being that if you weren't interested in just collecting and trading cards, the competitive aspect may pull you in. One of the other main reasons the whole thing stalled though, was that we didn't have the means to integrate the cards with the forum and automate the buying, exchanging for coins, etc etc. That should be doable now with mybb, via a login API of some sort, or simply by building the system off the back of the forum itself. When we (mostly PDX) designed the database structure, it was deliberately designed to have a single ID for users that could have been tied back to a forum user id for this reason, with the intention of tying everything together later. By having a separate site containing all the trading card stuff, it kind of defeats the purpose of the forum move imo. It also prevents some people from actually using the system. If the setup was integrated into the forum itself, it would be more inclusive as well as potentially making it more feasible to fully automate pack purchases -- particularly given the possibility of an integrated banking system on the forum -- and remove the need for posting in threads, and awarding packs on the dotts website etc etc. RE: (S24) - PT 5 - Trade Ya - ConnorM123 - 09-08-2020 Firstly I'd like to say the dotts trading cards are a great idea in principle, some of the ones I've seen are awesome and I can't wait until I'm drafted and be able to see my own card. I do have a few things about it. Personally I'm not really interested in buying the cards every day with no incentive, like you just have the cards to collect but no "sticker book" or somewhere to show off the collection. The reasoning behind that has been explained is to take money out of the rich players but I really don't think that it's not going to make any difference whatsoever, unless you were able to buy the cards for example in bulk for a higher fee and even still that wouldn't make much difference. The main suggestion I have which I don't know how viable this would be. If possible have like an award (cash or TPE) for completing certain sets, more so making the 'sharing' of cards more rigid and can only be done through trading. As I said I don't know if this could work and would definitely create more work (or even another job for people), but is just a suggestion cause I don't feel interested in the cards as they currently stand. But if it was to work I'd certainly be interested in doing it. RE: (S24) - PT 5 - Trade Ya - .simo - 09-08-2020 I have a few things I would love to see in the Dotts cards. These will probably be mentioned a lot but it's what I'd like to see. Trading This is the obvious one and I think this would get more people involved somewhat and increase the amount of money taken out of the economy by cards. As it stands right now my own thoughts on how I'll play trading cards is not at all. I'd love to grab a Karmichael Hunt in every season there is one but I won't be doing that if I can't trade because the chances of pulling the one cards I want are just to low for me. I would buy some cards though in hope I could get something worth trading for and be able to end up with the cards I want. Special Cards - by user vote I would love if once a season we had a vote of cards we would like to see get made. Of course Gimmy is going to win the first vote and so he should. But there is a lot of league memes and jokes around the place that could be put into a special collection of cards that I think would be cool Special Cards - made to order This one I can't see happening but I just had this idea. If you could order a certain card you want and then only you would have that or maybe you would get in and it would go into packs, I dunno. But say you were a QB that had an MVP season back in S6 you could pay a large sum like 10 million or something for that card to me made and be an official league card. There are some things that I would like to see changed. First of all, we need to start removing all the retired players from the current card pool soon. Otherwise it's going to be ridiculously hard to pull a good card. There are way too many pulls of irrelevant people. I think in a couple seasons, we should start phasing out people from S1-S10 draft classes. Or maybe a draft class a season. Also, I think there should be limited time promos, like "Stars of S22" where you have a group of premier S22 players who have their own special artwork and stuff, and then those cards become super rare for a season or something. Come up with special promos every season to give more cards their special artwork. I also think the cap on buying cards is dumb, but I can kinda understand it? I feel like we should be able to go broke on Dotts, and that's kinda the objective of the whole program, isn't it? Also, I think players who make the Hall of Fame should get their own card for free. Maybe the same with awards, but those are really common, so I don't think it matters. RE: (S24) - PT 5 - Trade Ya - zeagle1 - 09-08-2020 Not a Dotts guy (although I might splurge because it sounds cool) so my thoughts on taking money out of the league: I see two approaches to taking money out of the league: making earning it harder, or giving players something to spend it on that isn't game-breaking or disadvantageous to players that don't have the extra time to earn more. As someone who looks for the easiest way to get something done, I quickly saw the extreme earnings/effort ratio for having a Twitter. I spend under a minute a day coming up with a relevant tweet, and maybe replying to someone else, and make ~650k per week. There are some great ISFL accounts that put in tons of effort and make the exact same amount, so I really feel like I'm getting free money. I don't really know how to change this other than lower the amount per tweet but give bonuses for quality content, but I am not sure how that would be implemented. One other suggestion I have is to limit the 2x first media bonus for rookie players. Instead of a flat 2x multiplier, it should be 2x up until a certain point than 1x (or 1.5x if draft week, etc.). I personally churned out a 3k word article for my first to set myself up with a nice nest egg, and their are some other rookies who don't have to do media for the next 5 seasons because they wrote 10k behemoth articles as their first media post. Having the bonus apply up until a certain amount of words will still motivate new players to write something of decent length, but will stop rookies from being the richest player on their DSFL teams. RE: (S24) - PT 5 - Trade Ya - Bayley - 09-08-2020 SHL - Panda RE: (S24) - PT 5 - Trade Ya - Cynoblaze - 09-08-2020 I have personally not bought a pack of Dotts cards, but I know a member of my locker room has bought quite a few. I have seen many of the players he has pulled from the packs and have been very impressed by the detail that has gone into Dotts trading cards. I do have some ideas regarding Dotts to maybe improve the experience. Obviously there needs to be more cards in the pool to choose from. With only like 700 different cards, the richest members of our league will easily start getting the same cards over and over again. That is why I am suggesting we should add in equipment cards like jerseys and cleats. Maybe if you get a full teams "set" of equipment you could trade those in for a new player you don't have. Doing that would add more cards into the pool, add to the fun of collecting, and offers a reward to players in the long run. I think another good idea would be to offer card pack tiers. So not only would there be a 500k tier, maybe there could be a cheaper and more expensive pack just to offer a bit more variety. I really like Dotts trading cards and I hope they are here to stay rather than being a fad the will die out in the near future.
