RE: (S24) - Ultimus Week - Troen - 09-16-2020 Prompt 8 Wrote:It’s always important to look forward to the future. Examine your team, and in 400 words or more, talk about how they can improve themselves to get a stab at trophy contention next year. Are you loaded with draft capital for the next draft? Do you have plenty of cap space to sign free agents? Go through the roster and note the different strengths and weaknesses, and how you think those will change over the next few seasons. How should your team adapt? In a conference with every team finishing within 2 wins of each other and where the top 4 teams all had the same record, the Copperheads on paper don't need to improve that much to contend next year. We scored the most points in the conference and 3rd most in the ISFL. If we kept what we did well this year into next year but managed to be a bit luckier with turnovers, penalties, and the like, then we'd absolutely be a contender. However, the reality is that the team isn't going to keep everything good we had this year. Austin has a mostly older offense backed up by a mostly younger defense, and regression plus retirements will be hitting hard next year. Retirements include * RB1 Make Mendonca * WR3/4 Rod Tidwell * OL Edmond Beaver-Dantes * K/P Alfredo "Thighmaster" Crisco * S Takeda Okura * S Awkward Sexjoke plus the later years of regression for S16 players QB Cole, TE Larson, and CB Lavelle Jr., not to mention an expansion draft with 1 S20 and 7 S22/23 players protected. So, yes, on paper the Copperheads would be great contenders going into next year if we just did last year but better, but the odds absolutely do not favor that happening. So, if running it back isn't the plan, what is? We are keeping a great core of high-earning defensive players along with two young receivers. We have S25 GM QB Jackie Daytona coming up in this year's draft as the future after Cole. We have just about $32 million of space for S25 according to the budget sheet as of 9/15. We have a trio of three great S24 players who were in the DSFL this year, the RB duo of Watts and Kitches plus sure-to-impact S Bowie. However, we don't have the best S25 draft capital after making some trades to contend last and this year. So realistically, I think the focus is going to be on making a push for contension in S26 and beyond with the new QB rather than going all-in on the last year of Cole. The expansion draft will also have a distinct impact here - S22 RB Jones and S23 CB McGullager are both unprotected, along with some in-regression players. If both younger players get plundered but all 3 vets remain, that increases the chances of contending in S25 but hurts S26 and beyond. Given the amount of cap space, it's also possible that there's room to pick up one or mroe free agents to cover gaps. Having only one safety on the roster as of right now makes that the obvious area to look for an improvement on, but I could imagine there being upgrades available at OL, TE, or DT as well as they all look to have sub-400 TPE starters going into next year. So to recap, I think the obvious strength of Austin is the younger defensive core going into S26 and beyond, but I don't see us having the resources and players to compete reliably with the top of the league given who we're losing. Prompt 16 Wrote:Choose your favorite non-playoffs game of this season, whether your own team or another. Explain what was so special and why the winner ultimately came out victorious, including key players and moments. For me, this is absolutely our week 4 game against the Second Line. After starting the year 0-2 and only narrowly edging out the Otters in week three by one point, a solid victory with both offense and defense performing well was a huge morale booster in the locker room. While it didn't exactly turn the season around, it did give us a lot of confidence going forward. Our QB Cole was amazing this game with 360 yards and 3 TDs, plus we had 199 rushing yards at a rounds-up-to 5.0 YPC rate. And our defence forcing 8 punts to go with 2 turnovers was a key part of the game too, giving up a lot of yards and time but not points. Beyond that, this game was special to me personally since it was my first forced fumble and additionally first recovery in the DSFL or ISFL. I've been producing tackles/TFL at a decent rate along with the occasional sack, but this felt like a big impact play in a game that we really needed at the time. I've said before that TFLs are almost as good as sacks when it helps to shutting drives down, but obviously creating a turnover is the absolute best way to stop a drive. So, managing to do that for the first time this year really gave me a great reinforcement of impact on the game. Unfortunately, the game wasn't also our turning point into a Cinderella season of winning the Ultimus, but I still enjoyed it. This season a scandal appeared in the form of a tweet from the Dallas Birddogs. A little background on this event, during the DSFL draft, the Dallas Birddogs selected a Safety from Auburn named Bob Roberts. Roberts stirred a lot of controversy early in his career with him starting beefs and creating drama on twitter, including one moment where he took a large amount of shots in a unprompted bet. This drunken rant somehow inspired him to apply for the role of Birddog twitter handler. Roberts continued his antics on twitter, slowly pushing the controversy by opening making fun of other teams, and creating memes and at the same time gaining a lot of praise from members in the ISFL community, with the Birddog twitter gaining in popularity and likes and retweets. Roberts, like Icarus began to fly two close to the sun, he first posted a meme with fowl languages, with the classic meme from the Adult Swim Show, Loiter Squad where Earl Sweatshirt played a scared strait parody officer, who yelled "it smells like b word (i dont wanna get in trouble for cursing) in here" with the Norfolk Seawolves and Kansas City Coyotes being the b words in question. Due to the fact that he received zero punishment for this action and the fact that the London Royals twitter account posted a picture of a dog engaging in sexual acts with the Birddog Logo, Roberts believed that he was safe to post whatever he wanted. Kansas City Created a New Logo, and Roberts saw the opportunity to add a little "flair" to it and turned it into a phallic object of male genitalia. Despite the fact that it clearly was a elementary school level of detail, it was treated like he had posted a actual image of his own genitalia. Roberts was ordered to remove the image, and was yelled at by several different ISFL members who all wanted to give their own opinion on the matter, while at the same time randomly blaming the Former Dallas GM Kyle, who ironically had nothing to do with the whole affair since he was not a GM during Roberts whole time there, and the GM who hired Roberts, Steg, had recently stepped down. The controversy did not lead to any fines due to the fact that there where no rules against this sort of things, but the lasting effects where giant (403 words) 13) Coming into the league was a lot more fun then i initially thought it would be, with me getting sucked into the league a lot faster than i originally thought, during the draft process i met a lot of cool people such as Plat and Jimi DeSoto, who i enjoyed hanging out with before the draft. However it was only after I was drafted by the Dallas Birddogs in the 7th round of the DSFL draft where i found my the teammates and new friends which i have gotten to know very well. I would love to take this oppertunity to discuss a lot of the people i have come to enjoy and spend a stupid amount of time sending silly messages on discord. Firstly I would love to give a shout out to Kya, Steg and Lim, who have shown nothing but kindness and have rooted for me. I would also like to give a shout out to former GM's Gucci and Kyle, who have been super fun and are always down to laugh and joke with the rest of us. Now its time too look at my teammates. To r0tz, a man who surprised me with how talented he is, while at the same time being a likable and down to earth man, and who does not hesitate to drop cute photos of his dog Finn. To Rev, a really funny guy who may or may not burn down his neighbors RV. The each of the members of the Horsemen, who i beefed with during the draft process, but i have grown to enjoy the scotsmen and i hope that they have grown to enjoy me aswell. A few other birddogs i would like to shout out is BK football, whose always a cool guy, who plays jeopardy with me alot, PigSnout our fearless QB, AirCrou whose mostly just guys cards and writes about them these days, Boom (bryan blackwell) who is killing the interception game, and all the former players who have continued to have a presence in the Dallas Lockeroom, and despite being on new teams continue to root for and have fun with us boys in dallas. But how people bonds with each other for everything, not only team or draft class but position as well. In my short time here I had the pleasure to chat with tons of different people, with their different experiences, ideas and cultures. And I have the privilege, no, the honor of meeting them, to learn from them things about the league and about things that has nothing to do with it at all. Because... It's not the game what should take priority but the friends we make along the way. And they are the real reason we keep playing, and that ain't measurable. How many times did you just smile to the screen or laugh while chatting derply with your team members? Or how many times did you spoke at the rookie channel just because it was less threatening than the main league discord? Once a gm told me "TPE ain't the reason we draft our players, or the position they play. We pick the person that's behind that". This person might be anyone. From an ausie kid that loves cricket. To a packers fan in Argentina. Or maybe it's a hardcore jets fan in Brooklyn or a Trans women in England. We are different. Way more than anyone can see at first glance. But that uniqueness that we bring here it's what builds our community. And being so I want to just use this space to remember some of the few experiences I had here. The first one I would have to tell it was the moment I just created. Got invited by Simo to Kansas city lockeroom and there were a couple friends I previously had. After a quick roundup where I made my player and my rookie task, when a small conversation begun about metric and imperial systems... Yes it was dumb, it was really dumb, but for a minute we relaxed and enjoyed ourselves. Or yesterday at london's lockeroom where people started helping each other to test and suggested changes to their builds trying to get better. Yes those are just a couple moments of what has been barely a season, but for me it means a lot. It means so much because down here in Argentina we had a severe lockdown for sanitary reasons (hello covid) so all this proorly explained work helped me to continue with my real life, and that's why I want to write a bit about the people that makes me feel at better and helps me push through this hard times. 1) Felix Archstone - Offensive Lineman Kansas. I've met Felix on my second day on the league. Kinda weeb and dorky but with a golden heart and a super bright attitude that it's contagious. He is one of Kansas General managers and makes sure everyone is having the time of their lives. I doubt anyone there could be the same without him being around. 2) Harrison Andrews - Cornerback London. Andrews it's the royals' personal football enciclopedia. A down to earth person that knows what he's talking about and loves the ncaa Florida gators over anything else. He's one of the reasons I am currently on London and i'ma super dedicated member that will go above and beyond just to be sure that everyone is doing well. Few times in my life I had a chance to meet such an interesting fellow (and one that makes any team click by his sole presence) can't really do more than shout out him and tell everyone this. 3)number three it's way more personal. Kotone Shiomi - Quarterback Kansas. Shiomi it's probably my best friend at this point. We came here from the same league and since then I decided to make her my rival. She's the reason I push harder each day to be the best player on my class. Even if she doesn't know anything about football (or arm egg as she likes to call it) she's the person that will tell you to leave when she knows you had enough, even if you're trying to convince yourself otherwise. She's the person that will help you push as well. 4)Last but not least and the person I've spoken to the less of this list I'm gonna have to go with thevoiceofthevoiceless he's on Minnesota but honestly I never managed to learn about his player. All I know that he's a super fun guy that's usually up super late. He's the perfect person to speak to when someone has insomnia. But he's not boring at all, it's just relaxing to he around him, like of the time slows down for how chill he is. Not only that but he's someone that it's not afraid of asking and super polite. Yeah this might be rambling for someone in the league, that's for sure. Butt honestly I belive that this was the perfect moment to say thank you to each and every member of the community, because the simulation it's just an excuse. In my eyes the thing that makes this league such a special place. its the people that received me, a newbie with five games to go until the end of the season and decided they wanna be my friends. As always, communities before all Code: 887 words RE: (S24) - Ultimus Week - Bayley - 09-16-2020 Quote:Tier 3 - Task 1 (2.5 TPE)PBE - CW Quote:Tier 3 - Task 25 (2.5 TPE)Have we ever thought about moving to a Connect Four League to avoid the issue of where Offensive Lineman will hold someone on a 50 yard catch in the 4th quarter of a playoff game where you may just pull off the upset that you tested just around 30% for? I mean, that has to be the most frustrating thing in the league is just the sim. It makes no sense sometimes, so I would really say that. Secondly, I would move the Chicago Butchers to Tottenham, London, England and become the Tottenham Red Squirrels. We know that the London Royals are evil, so they are going to be the red part of London which is annoying, but what are you going to do? We need to be in the better, blue part of London which is what we will do. Berlin thought they would be cool and go to Germany, but how about we go to England and be better than you. How do you feel about that? I think I would have Taylor Swift sing the National Anthem for the first game of the season to the Queen while she is in attendance of the game which is highly important, obviously. So, those are the couple changes that I would make to the league if I had the power to do so. Words: 224 Quote:Tier 2 - Task 7 (5 TPE)There are so many people that I would choose in terms of Awards. I think the first one is going to be George O'Donnell, the Quarterback of the Chicago Butchers. He really should go for Most Improved. Look at what he did this year for the Butchers. He had 354 completions out of 615 attempts which was first in the entire league while having the second most attempts for 3,974 yards, 20 touchdowns and only 9 interceptions. I think that is really, really good comparative to what happened in previous years for this player. In Season 23, O'Donnell had only 275 completions for 3,083 with 10 touchdowns and 12 interceptions, so when you look at what he did this year, that is an incredible jump that really needs to be looked at. He should really get Breakout Player of the Year in my opinion, so he should be taking home that award. When it comes to the Cornerback of the Year, I think it should go to the Mountain Biker himself, Tyron Shields as he had a really good year out of the Cornerback position as no one came close in tackles as this guy had 139 which is actually 3rd in the entire league. The next CB only had 121, so he was really doing well. He also had 1 tackle for loss, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovery, 2 interceptions, and 15 pass deflections which is really good when you look at it. So, why would this guy not get this award? That is right, he really should get this award. I know he is young and people will look just at interceptions, but that is a joke and you should not do that. I really think you need to look at everything and not just the one little thing, so the entire package if you will. That is why Shields should get that award, without question in my mind. Another award should go to Mario VonPebbles. Look at what this freaking guy did this year. He had 17 Taackles for loss which is awesome to see from the MVP while also forcing one fumble and sacking the quarterback 5 times which is great. Yeah, there are people above him in tackles for loss, but who cares about them, they are stupid idiots. MVP on the other hand, is not a silly idiot which needs to come into effect when you are voting for the awards. Do you want a silly person winning any award? I doubt that you do. That is why you should vote for MVP for this defensive line player of the year or whatever the award is actually called. I really do not think you will regret voting for him for that award. Words: 459 RE: (S24) - Ultimus Week - Memento Mori - 09-16-2020 Quote:Tier 1: Long Form Tasks (800+ words)I’m going to indulge myself a little here, and talk about the most significant moment in ISFL history that I was part of. Granted, I wasn’t part of this moment from the beginning, but I was one of several players for whom their ISFL career was permanently changed by this moment and the events that followed. I’m going to talk about the trade that the Philadelphia Liberty and Chicago Butchers made in S21. On the 16th of March 2020, the Chicago Butchers traded their first and second round picks in the upcoming S22 ISFL Draft to the Philadelphia Liberty for Farley Hank, Johnson Harding and Philadelphia’s S22 3rd round pick. The Season 22 draft was the biggest draft class in league history, with a total of 284 players selected. Essentially, Philadelphia gave Chicago a S15 750 TPE running back and a S18 308 TPE defensive tackle for the 6th overall pick in the S22 draft and to move up from the 27th overall pick to the 18th overall pick. If you take a look back at the trade thread (link here) many people were certain from the start that this was a terrible trade for Chicago. Farley Hank was a slightly above average running back who was about to enter regression and Johnson Harding was an inactive defensive tackle with an expiring contract. At the end of the season, Chicago didn’t even re-sign Harding. Chicago immediately became a meme on Twitter, in the general discord and on the forums. I don’t want to stir up old drama, so I’ll cover the negative events following the trade in a concise and neutral way. WALDO, a Chicago war room member, made his frustrations public and publicly asked for a trade. ValorX77, one of Chicago’s GMs, resigned his post and also requested a trade. Eventually the other Chicago GM, steelsound, resigned as well and retired his player – having recently cut WALDO’s player after an argument with him on Twitter. Head Office appointed a new Chicago GM, and the remaining members of the Chicago war room organised a coup and got rid of him on his first day in the job. Two Chicago war room members, Jiggly_333 and Oles, made the case to Head Office that they should be the new GMs instead. Much of this was stated publicly on the forums, with both Jiggly_333 and TubbyTim69 (the GM who had been ousted by the war room) making posts in the ISFL Media section describing what was happening in Chicago. Eventually, Jiggly made a post announcing that two new GMs had been approved by the war room. BayleyIsland and Muford would be the new Chicago Butchers GMs. There was just one problem. Bayley’s player was a prospect in the upcoming draft, and Muford’s player was a S21 344 TPE defensive tackle who played for the Colorado Yeti. Rule II.B.1. in the ISFL rulebook states that recreating general managers must use their team’s highest second round pick on their player. Following the trade the previous administration had made with Philadelphia, Chicago did not own a second round pick – their highest pick in the upcoming draft was the 27th overall pick that they had received from Philadelphia. This forced Chicago to head back into the trade market once again. Chicago traded the 27th overall pick and the 69th overall pick to Baltimore for Baltimore’s 2nd round pick, 21st overall. They would use this pick to select Bayley’s player, Benson Bayley Jr. In order to acquire Muford’s player John Smirh from Colorado, they had to part with their first round pick in S23 – they simply did not have the draft capital to make a trade for Muford using S22 picks. At this point, if we include the initial trade, four players and six draft picks have been exchanged. If we follow the journey of each of these six draft picks to their eventual selections, even more players become entangled in the events following the initial trade between Chicago and Philadelphia. Four picks into the S22 draft, a further trade occurs. Philadelphia trade the first round pick they acquired from Chicago (6th overall) and the 30th overall pick (also acquired from Chicago, but in an earlier and less dramatic trade) to Arizona for the 4th overall pick. In the ninth round, Chicago traded ValorX77’s player to Austin for the 103rd overall pick. As far as I can tell from looking at the Trades section, that is the end point of each draft pick’s journey. Now, let’s talk about the players selected with each of those draft picks in chronological order. With the fourth overall pick in the S22 ISFL Draft, the Philadelphia Liberty selected Brandon Booker (Memento Mori). As I hope you’ve realised almost 800 words into this prompt, that’s me. That’s my player. Three ISFL seasons later, Brandon Booker is a 770 TPE cornerback boasting a career statline that includes 5 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery, 11 interceptions and 4 defensive touchdowns. I’m also the co-GM of the Philadelphia Liberty, the team that drafted me. I think we can call that pick a success. With the sixth overall pick, the Arizona Outlaws selected Stanislaw Koniecpolski (majesiu). A previous player of majesiu’s, Vladimir Fyodorovich, was recently inducted into the ISFL Hall of Fame. Koniecpolski is a 720 TPE linebacker who has accumulated over 350 tackles, 2 forced fumbles, a fumble recovery, 4 sacks and 4 interceptions for the Outlaws. I can’t speak much to majesiu’s off-the-field attributes (I think I’ve only spoken to them once or twice) but on the field Stan has certainly lived up to expectations for Arizona. With the 18th overall pick, the Philadelphia Liberty selected Wesley Eriksen (Lightnoir). Light’s player is a 671 TPE safety and is one of my favourite people to talk to in the Philadelphia locker room. Eriksen has made over 250 tackles so far in his ISFL career, as well as forcing 4 fumbles, making a fumble recovery, sacking the opposing quarterback 9 times and bringing in 3 interceptions. With the 21st overall pick, Chicago selected Benson Bayley Jr. Bayley’s player is now an offensive lineman with 665 TPE. More on Bayley the GM (as opposed to Bayley the player) in the conclusion. With the 27th overall pick, the Baltimore Hawks selected Eldrick Avery (RansackTheUniverse). Avery is a 765 TPE cornerback. Like majesiu, I’ve not really spoken to the user behind Avery. Avery has only recorded 2 forced fumbles and 2 interceptions, but has been among the leaders in passes defended since his ISFL debut and with him continuing to earn well I’m sure more stats will come. With the 30th overall pick, the Arizona Outlaws selected Quinn Hughes (Isidore94). This one is a little sad because it’s the first inactive player. Isidore was made co-GM of the Outlaws prior to his rookie ISFL season, only to abruptly retire about a season later. Isidore was the second of three co-GM departures in four seasons for Arizona. With the 69th overall pick, the Baltimore Hawks selected linebacker Dex Kennedy (Dagumpa). Kennedy is now 648 TPE and has started for the Hawks in each of the last two seasons. Kennedy has amassed almost 300 tackles – he led Baltimore in tackles in S23 and led the entire ISFL in S24 - 2 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries, 4 sacks, 2 interceptions, and 2 defensive touchdowns. With the 103rd overall pick, the Chicago Butchers selected safety Abbas Muhammad (stupiduglyidiot). There’s not much to say about him, as he went inactive at 242 TPE, having last updated his player on the 6th of June, and was never called up to the ISFL. With the first overall pick in the S23 ISFL Draft, the Colorado Yeti selected safety Greedy Sly (Sylphreni), using the pick they acquired from trading Muford to Chicago. Sylphreni recently replaced one of Colorado’s GMs, woelkers, who departed the team to GM the expansion New York Silverbacks franchise and will now serve as co-GM alongside Frick_Nasty. Sylph’s player now has 620 TPE and made his debut in S24, where he managed 130+ tackles, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and 2 interceptions. Here’s what every team gained as part of a very long and convoluted seven-team trade. Arizona Outlaws: Stanislaw Koniecpolski, Quinn Hughes. Austin Copperheads: 16 games of Ryan Leaf Jr. Baltimore Hawks: Eldrick Avery, Dex Kennedy. Chicago Butchers: 9 games of Johnson Harding, 25 games of Farley Hank. Benson Bayley Jr., John Smirh, Abbas Muhammad. Colorado Yeti: Greedy Sly. Philadelphia Liberty: Brandon Booker, Wesley Eriksen. Sarasota Sailfish: Zack Vega. That’s eight current players who had their ISFL careers shaped by this trade, as well as six retired players. The events would also have had a big impact on Jiggly, Oles, Tim and many others. You could say that this worked out okay for Chicago in the end – Bayley and Muford have done a fantastic job since taking over and took the Butchers to the playoffs in S24 – but the effects of that initial disastrous trade are huge. Turmoil in Chicago, the draft destination of eight active players, and two GMs who almost certainly would not be on their current teams if not for this trade. (1521 words because I enjoyed writing this) RE: (S24) - Ultimus Week - OrbitingDeath - 09-16-2020 Tier 1) Task 5: As this is my first period in the league I do not know much yet about the history of the league, the players (past and present) that are in it and how the teams have fared throughout their existence. But the history in the leagues is one of the things that interests me in a league and I usually learn the history throughout the seasons that I play in the league. When you are chasing records for example. Then you will look up the previous record, see what players are in the top 25 and keep track of how many more tackles or interceptions you will need in order to break it. The ISFL is already gearing up towards the Season 25 draft so there is a lot of history for me to catch up on, and it’s not something that will happen overnight. The favourite part of the history of a league however, will be to create history with you in it. As a first generation member you still have the ‘everything is new and awesome phase’ that can make a league look cooler than it actually is. But it is important to look at what you can bring to the league to shape its history and the way I usually want to create history is to make incredibly good players. This will proof to be quite a challenge considering how large these drafts are in the ISFL, so there is a lot of competition and standing out is much harder. All you can do in that regard, is stay active, work hard and most of all, remain consistent. Only be putting in the effort you can create a player good enough to create history. Now most of my own history comes from other sim league’s, as I have hall of fame players in the SHL, the VHL, the EFL and the SBA. But to enter a league as a nobody is something I haven’t experienced in a while. A fresh look at a league and a new chance to create history. No matter how hard the challenge will be, as the players here have gone through different era’s of the league, it will be hard to gun for the record books or create a hall of fame player, but working towards that kind of history is my ultimate goal and the one that keeps me going in these leagues. I want to become history myself (in the good sense of the sentence, not in the being killed one). To become a player that is good enough to enter the record books, you have to know what your doing, so research in that is an important point. So before my player was created here I already found the guides to speed (with the specific speed breakpoints per position) and the attribute guide which highlights the most important attributes per position. The research goes further than just knowing the stats, one of the fun things for me is to see how current players do it and at which path they had taken for their growth. As a player you have several stages in your career and it’s good to see what you should accomplish (or aim for) even in your younger stages. So looking at other rookies at a certain position, is definitely something I enjoy doing. By looking at all the rookies in a certain position and look how they did throughout the season, then you can decide which builds had the most success and can help me grow into a great player myself. Despite loving to explore the build paths early in my career, it is not something I have done yet in the ISFL. After being waiver claimed by the Dallas Birddogs I have not been able to suit up yet (last time I checked), but have been contacted by several scouts in the draft, with them all having the same question ‘are you open to a position switch’. For me that really depends on the position, as I do like a position where I can put myself in the spot light as a player and get noticed around the league. You do not create history if your player is anonymous or doesn’t play a large role for the team. Picking a position that is hardly played might get you in the history books, but only to check each sim how many pancakes you made will get boring in the end, so I am aiming for a position with more stats to be gained, definitly knowing that it also means more competition to make the record books. So far, El Hefe is a nobody in this league, and he’s only a historic item when looking at previous waiver claims. But building up his history and trying to become one of the league greatest in his own position, that is definitely something to enjoy. I have achieved success in many fantasy leagues and trying to make history in the ISFL as well is definitely something that I have a big interest in. So in short, I love to make players in these kind of leagues and I love that they become part of the history of the league. But most of all I do enjoy being succesfull with them and I try to not let anything going in my way of achieving this. Words: 895 RE: (S24) - Ultimus Week - nunccoepi - 09-16-2020 7) Awards season is a big part of the offseason festivities. Take the stand, in 400 words or more, for one or more players that are not your own, and argue why they should receive awards glory. They can be your teammates or anyone in the league. How did their stats and on the field contribution contribute to their case this year? Ok, I want to talk about my fellow Yeti, Thor Kirkby. In my opinion he should win not only Safety of the Year, but also Defensive Player of the Year. because Safeties are able to achieve essentially almost all of the defensive stats, its difficult to know what stats are the most important when evaluating which was the best of the best. but, we'll start first with Tackles. Kirkby amassed 75 tackles which put him in good but not great company: just outside of the top ten for all the safeties in the league and admittedly Kirkby's statistical weak point. however, when you consider how infrequently the Colorado Yeti were on defense, his stats would have been much better if you extrapolate it out. He also didn't have any tackles for a loss, but this isnt surprising because this is a rather rare stat for Safeties: the safety leader for TFL's only had 3. moving to forced fumbles and fumble recoveries, Kirkby had 2 and 1 respectively. this is a very close second for the position (T. Biggums with 2 and 2 respectively). Kirkby walked away with 3 interceptions which is really good, but still tied for third on the season as the safety leader had 5. Again, it was a very good showing, but still not the best in class. Kirkby needs something else to really put him over the top. Kirkby had 6 PDs which is still top 10 for the position, so again, good, but not great. One wonders how these categories of "very good but not great" would change if the Yeti had played more snaps on defense. Although we hardly analyze defensive stats like that, it hardly seems fair to punish a player by failing to take into account what the player's stats would have been--all on account of the fact that the better a player plays on defense, the less he'll be on the field. Nevertheless, we get now to where Kirkby really sets himself apart: he was the most consistent defensive point scorer in the league. Thor Kirkby is responsible for A WHOPPING THREE SAFETIES ON THE SEASON. Just how incredible is that? Let's turn to the career record holders for safeties. In first place is a GOAT defensive end with 4. over the course of a whole career. That's it. Next are a small handful of players who have three. Kirkby was able to match that in only ONE season. I have no doubt that he will break the career record before he retires. And to put the cherry on top of it, Kirkby also scored a defensive touchdown. He was one of only 10 players to do that and only three safeties to do so. For these reasons, particularly the 12 points that he added to his team over the course of the season, he should win Safey of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year. 14) Create an argument for your own player, or for someone else on your team, as to why they should be nominated for awards. Lay out their stats or compare them to other contenders. Make a convincing case. I think that Blackstone should be considered for a third straight Defensive End of the Year Award. I know, this is surprising (not), but I do believe that he has a convincing case. Starting with Tackles for a Loss, which is the most important stat for defensive ends, Immanuel Blackstone was able to pull in 18 which puts him at third (21 and 19 being the two ahead him for Hole and VonPebbles respectively. On this basis alone you might conclude that Hole, at the very least, deserves it more. However, Hole is currently inactive which means he won't be eligible to receive the award. This puts Blackstone in a firm second place after looking at the most important stat. But what of the other stats? Next, we consider overall tackles. Blackstone has 60 tackles which is second out of the whole class of defensive ends. VonPebbles has only 43, so Blackstone has a clear advantage there. Next, we consider sacks. Blackstone has 7 which puts him in a tie for third: Jayson Kearse (8) and Ben's guy (9) are the only ones with more. Interestingly, Kearse is the one player who had more overall tackles than Blackstone. You might argue the race would come down to those two as Kearse has only one less Tackle for a loss. In fact they each also have one safety. However, when you consider the next category, Forced Fumbles and Fumbles Recovered, Blackstone has a convincing edge as he has 1 and 2 respectively while Kearse has none of either. This is an easy call in my opinion. 19) Create a billboard, magazine cover, unique trading card, or video game cover depicting a superstar of the league. With a final record of five wins and nine losses. We missed the playoffs and to be honest, that's not acceptable. We had the talent on our roster, but we just could not finish. There needs to be some major changes in the way we conduct our offense in order to be better as a team. For one, we need to get away from the run heavy offense and switch to a more passer friendly team. When you look at the top teams in the DSFL, you see that they can easily pass the ball and benefit from that style greatly. The top teams in each division, The London Royals and the Tijuana Luchadores, are first and second in passing yards. While the two top rushing teams, the Myrtle Beach Buccaneers and the Minnesota Grey Ducks, are third and fourth in their divisions. You can easily see the issue and it needs to be fixed soon or else the Minnesota Grey Ducks will not see an Ultimini, or even the playoffs for a long time. There is a lot of talent in this upcoming draft for these needs to be met. And with the Grey Ducks having the first overall pick, I think that these goals are obtainable. I do not think the Grey Ducks should abandon the run, but a more balanced offense is needed. The first thing that needs to happen is the Grey Ducks need to draft a reliable number one reciever. With quarterback Matt Peterson getting better each year, I feel like this is the best time for our offense to make the switch. I do not think much of our offense will be called up to the ISFL this year so with many of our offensive starters returning, this will be a good time for the Grey Ducks to make a playoff push. I should also mention that the Minnesota Grey Ducks have a new general manager in theCC. So far he seems to be very competent and ready to help make the ducks be the best team they can be. With theCC and Jamar Lackson, I feel very confident in our front office to make the decisions that will greatly impact our chances of winning. In conclusion, the Grey Ducks are going to be the team to look out for this year in the DSFL. With a returning quarter back, a first overall draft pick, and new leadership, I have strong faith that this organization will pull itself together and win an Ultimini! Ultimus Task #13 I created my account here nearly two months ago and so far I have had a blast. Before joining I was pretty lonely to be honest. I didn't have many friends, I was home all the time and pretty depressed if I am being honest. This league has done so much for my self esteem that I really am a different person. I joined originally to find a fun hobby that I could enjoy, I really didn't expect to find so many amazing people that I can call my friends now. We actually started our own gaming server for the league that went from nine or ten people to over sixty now. I spend many of my nights here playing with many of the different league personnel. I think so far my best friends in the league are Frost, theCC, and Faded. Those 3 have been awesome but there have been so many more that I have bonded with and have had lengthy conversations with. With one season under my players belt, Cleg Manclaw is going to be a force in the coming league years. It was awesome to see my player get better and better each week. I could just see his stats improving by a pretty significant amount each week, especially his catches. Cleg went from getting very little catches to almost becoming the lead receiver towards the end of the season. I hope this trend continues with Cleg but most importantly, Cleg wants pancakes. As a blocking tight end, my main goal is to flatten as many people as I can. Cleg finished his first season with 23 pancakes and only one sack allowed. This is less than what I expected him to get, but I know next season he will get a lot more than that. With the ISFL draft almost upon us, I hope Cleg can go to a team that he can help the most. I have been contacted by a few teams so far and to be honest, I hope an expansion team drafts me. It would be very exciting to play with a brand new team in the league. But I will make sure to play my hardest for any team that drafts me. I cannot really think of any changes I would make to the league. Now that I know what I am doing, there is not much to change. I will say there is a sort of steep learning curve if you have zero sim league experience, so any improvement to that would be awesome. |
