RE: (S27) PT1 - First Impressions - Ace - 02-01-2021 The first impressions of the new sim is that it's much akin to the previous simulation engine that we used. I will confess, however, that I was not very well versed in the intricacies of the previous sim engine, and I couldn't even tell you what it is called. It seemed to go so much faster and you had to skim the text quickly to see results. The new sim engine seems to have a bit more of a modern polish to it. The stats seem to be a bit easier to read, and you don’t have to focus on a little box of text if you want to keep up with the stats as the game goes on live. This may be team specific strategy too, and not related to the sim, but it seems like there’s a lot more passing attempts being made which always results in a more fun game experience. There’s nothing worse than a punishing run game that prevents the ball from ever going into the air. Other than that, it seems to not have much that’s changed. I suppose that’s not a bad thing from my perspective – if it is not broke, don’t fix it. RE: (S27) PT1 - First Impressions - gbfn - 02-01-2021 I feel like the league as a whole will profit from the sim change due to a multitude of reasons. First and foremost the thing that comes to my attention the most is the possibility of modified game fields. I think there are some fields that look fantastic! As a whole the simulations looks much nicer, you can now keep up with the quarterbacks passing the ball. Also the animations in general seem much smoother. I heard from few people around the league that they didn't like the sim change because due to changed mechanics the outcome of the season is quite unforseeable. I see this as a positive thing and i don't think that too much is going to change. The powerhouse teams will certainly not have a massive drop in performance and wins. I also really like the fact that it got far harder for teams to sim test. With the old sim, where every mistakes in the logic was getting used and abused, there was a meta on how to create a player. You knew from the beginning which archetypes perform best. That is a real positive point for me. I hope that sim testing will be quite limited in the future, as this keeps the grinding factor a bit out of the sim league experience. RE: (S27) PT1 - First Impressions - Alcott - 02-01-2021 In all truthfulness I've only watched one game, and that was my own team's lone DFSL competition of the season so far. What I did notice was very nice fluidity of motion on the simulated plays and none of the odd defensive formation errors seen in the Prospect Bowl games (showed very strange defensive formation pre-snap and then shifted back to a standard formation post-snap). I'm not sure exactly how it compares to the old sim, but everything I've seen so far is very crisp and aesthetically pleasing. Now if only my player was performing as good as I'd like...Honestly it's not even that my guy is playing poorly, he just didn't seem to be getting much action from his safety position. In the game Cole Maxwell, the handsome dot sporting number 20 for the Dallas Birddog defense, only accumulated 2 tackles. That was it, the entire stat sheet, two measly tackles. No TFLs, no pass defenses, didn't even sniff an interception. I suppose lack of stats could be a good thing, you can't get tackles or pass defenses if the coverage is good enough to not warrant a pass to the receiver he's guarding in coverage, but it is disappointing to not be making impact plays or putting up numbers on the stat sheet. I suppose I'll have to take this game with a grain of salt and see how the season progresses, hopefully either the stats and impact plays come, or I lower my own expectations, but either way, as long as the Birddogs keep winning (1-0 baby) there's not really all that much to complain about. RE: (S27) PT1 - First Impressions - Slothman07 - 02-01-2021 The plan is to overwhelm our opponents' senses. ![]() RE: (S27) PT1 - First Impressions - shrub02 - 02-01-2021 S27 is my first season with the league and so far I enjoy it quite a bit. I don't have any experience with the previous sim but from what I have read the new version seems like it is more exciting to watch. It has come with its own set of surprises, seeing the Secondline and Outlaws both fall into early holes after being projected as top teams by many in the league. It was great to see Baby Yoda go beast mode on the Liberty. Gotta love seeing the rush yards pile up. I also enjoyed seeing two 90+ yard receiving touchdown. In short, the offenses have been fun to watch. As far as my team goes, the Grey Ducks struggled our first game barely putting up 13 points, even with the new sim. My player, Bender Rodriguez, saw limited playing time as he was one of the few tight ends in the DSFL draft to go to a team with a returning tight end. He definitely doesn't plan on letting his glorious golden ass ride the bench for too long, showing tremendous improvement since he joined the team. He believes that once the team sees how sticky his fingers are they won't want him to come off the field. 211 words RE: (S27) PT1 - First Impressions - slothfacekilla - 02-01-2021 PBE PT RE: (S27) PT1 - First Impressions - ztarwarz - 02-01-2021 Man this sim. It has its own set of weirdness that will make things extremely different and will probably lead to an entire new record book being set aside just for DDSPF 21. How many times did people get behind the defense and burn them due to Safeties forgetting how to do their job last Friday? I think at least half a dozen times, not counting the times that were just Tychondrius Hood repeatedly burning Dermott over and over again. I guess that kind of makes up for the CBs not getting dragged down the field now. There's also the weird boom or bust with all the speed backs, which makes me wonder if anyone will ever switch from that archetype. Then again, if you CAN get games like Lando Cardrissian or Baby Yoda had on Friday, there's not much of a REASON to switch from speed back. Finally, what the actual fucking hell sim. We are 0-2 with a -4 point differential. We should have won both games, at least by performance. We DEFINITELY should have beaten the Sabercats at home. As such, I'm going to be extremely cross if we lose a single game this upcoming week, and if we lose 2 I will rage hard. It has brought a breath of fresh air into this league, one that was very much needed. One thing that I noticed straight of the bat is how wacky this sim really is, as we are seeing monster performances in Week 2 of the inaugural season of this new sim, such as from the likes of Baby Yoda, who as a running back terrified me, who got 280 yards of ground running. 280! From there, you have Tychondrius Hood, who also went completely bonkers on the field last week, which as a person who is apart of a rival team (Honolulu) I am scared for how we are going to do against that man. From there, the streams are quite good, and I personally enjoy the way this sim looks, as it is, in my objective opinion, more appealing to the eyes (However, the way they do stats bugs me). There are a lot of fields that I personally enjoy, and that is another plus that I have for this sim, all umbrella-ing over the same thing; the look. I appreciate the amount of creativity that each team has going into each design of the home field, both ISFL, and DSFL. Overall, it is a new chapter for this league, and let me tell you, I am completely here for it. RE: (S27) PT1 - First Impressions - Gumbaman - 02-01-2021 ![]() |
