(5 TPE) 14. Describe your player and/or team’s journey through this latest season. What were the highlights? What were the lower points? What might you have done differently? What are your expectations for next season?
It has been a wild season for young tight end Nick L. Back who went from getting drafted by the Chicago Butchers to starting for them in the space of a couple of weeks. Initially, Back thought he would be sent down for another conditioning season with the Norfolk Seawolves but those plans were scrapped as the Butchers found themselves missing a tight end. Back would score his first career touchdown in his first game against the Liberty and put himself in the spotlight, just as he wanted to be. From there on in, the games got tougher and try as they might, the Chicago Butchers are a young team that needs to grow and it showed on the field this season, with the team finishing with a 6-10 record but missing the playoffs, two games back of the 8-8 Yeti.
For Nick L. Back though, a rookie season with 4 touchdowns, 687 yards received in 71 catches is a great result, which puts him at 5th in the league for Tight Ends, and knowing that this league has more wide receivers playing at tight end than actual tight ends, it’s good to know that he isn’t as far off the top performers from the get go.
Whilst this is all nice and all, missing the playoffs is still missing the playoffs. The goal after all is not just individual awards, but winning the Ultimus Cup. In this aspect, the Butchers were not going to be able to go for it quite yet as stated earlier. But with a few more seasons of growth, the team could be challenging for the cup in the not-too-distant future. For this to happen, sooner rather than later, Nick L. Back’s production will have to increase and be in-line with the best tight ends in the league. We’re talking about seasons of 1000 yards and more touchdowns. We’re also talking about increasing the amount of pancakes from 30 to around 45 and reducing the amount of sacks allowed from 2 to 0.
Back has already been hitting the gym and has been getting stronger by the week in order to contend with the older, more experienced opposition he faces on the field. Having hit peak speed he also now has to focus on becoming more agile, more competitive and maybe even a little bit smarter on the field. But more importantly, he needs to become more consistent throughout the season and give his all every day.

(2.5 TPE) 25. Imagine your current position was not available to be picked when you created your player. What other position would you have picked, and why?
As I have said to every DSFL and ISFL team when going through interviews, if I were not a Tight End, I would’ve gone either with a running back or a wide receiver. I can appreciate the defensive side of the game and the whole preventing progression, interception, pancakes and all but to me, I need to be able to see my player score touchdowns and contribute to the team’s scoreboard. It’s something that I have some struggles with in other leagues (SHL) where I’m not contributing to the score and even though I know that I am contributing in some way, it just feels like a result of other people’s performance rather than my own. To me, a running back or a wide receiver fills that purpose, as would a quarterback but that is too hard a commitment for a secondary league in which competition is fierce in that single position (and believe me, I was in S1 and missed out on a QB position so I know what I’m talking about). WR & RB seem to be more accessible but do also have this max earner to be anything relevant issue. On top of that WR is often encroaching on TE so overall I think I would’ve gone back to being a WR if TEs weren’t a thing… which they might as well not be considering the way the sim treats them.

22. You’re in charge of entertainment for the Ultimus or Ultimini half-time show. What would you do? [2.5 TPE]

The problem with most half-time shows is that the fans just have to sit in the stands and watch a musical guest or two and just end up barely remembering it. So my goal would be to get the fans in the stands more involved. We'd take an hour and a half break from the game. Food will be laid out en masse for the spectators to gorge themselves on. As they walk around finding food they enjoy they will be treated to three separate concerts featuring three different styles of music. From a rock group, to a hip hop musician, and finishing with an EDM concert for dancing. During the final concert, the people that bought VIP tickets will be able to dance with the players from either team. Each team will have a section of family members that will get autographs from anyone of the two teams and the musicians performing at the game. At the end of the concert, while staff cleans up the tables and food and the grounds crew returns the field to a playable state, there will be buttons built into every seat in the stadium. All people will get to participate in ISFL trivia and the person with the best score (tiebreaker being how long it took them to answer questions), will be invited to partake in the winning team's parade and spend a day with the team.

26. Football is a game that has been going on for a while, loved by fans all over. But what if you were able to make some rule changes? Talk us through your new version of football, and what would be different and why? [2.5 TPE]

I think one of the biggest issues is people not having fun during the game. Every sport gets competitive but these guys and gals are making millions of dollars to be entertaining. So we should allow all celebrating of any kind. No penalties for taunting, no penalties for trash talk, and any kind of celebrating that people want. I also think that there should be drop kicks allowed to your own teammates instead of only passes. Something like the Australian Rules Football League does currently. Having the ability to kick the ball on target to move it forward would add a whole new level to the game. I also think that forward throws after the line of scrimmage should be allowed for the QB. Why do we limit them to just behind where the ball started? I think adding more skill cap type plays would make the game more fun. Outside of that I think that all players should immediately be eligible as receivers. We should have more lineman scoring touchdowns. Having to declare as an offensively viable player is stupid! We need Right Tackles that score 8 touchdowns a season. More fun and less boring! We really just need to embrace more fun for football. Having too many rules gives structure but it also kills the fun of the game. And isn't fun the most important part?

#16 There are plenty of reasons teams should take a look at me in this upcoming class. For one, I have a strong understanding of what I am doing from day 1. That could certainly not be said my first go around though, as I was as clueless as could be starting out. I asked a ton of questions and got a lot of help from the community. I would like to think that I am easy to get along with. I'm not insanely active on discord these days, but you don't really have to worry about me causing any drama. I'm also quite loyal. I will be with my team through thick and thin and will also have their back through whatever. I'm sure people are probably tired of seeing wide receivers being created, but this class of 67 (btw we could really use two more to create yet) is actually not overwhelmingly all wide receivers and running backs this time. There are only 7 wideouts right now. For comparison, there are 9 fair rubs at this point. Lastly is I have quite a high floor. You know what you are going to get with me as an earner, though I'm not going to max earn this time around. All that being said, if any DSFL GMs are going hard and checking through this please draft new users first. I think they deserve that awesome experience we all had and being a higher draft pick certainly adds some to that experience for them.

#17 I currently do not have a team, so I will write from the perspective of the New Orleans Second Line. If they were to break ground on a new stadium, I would really like for them to push the musical theme. We unofficially adopted the alligator who plays trumpet as the team mascot, so I would like to see that incorporated somehow. Most likely outside of the stadium in a sort of kids interactive area. For the entrance, I would like a jumbo trombone crossing with a trumpet as you come in. Very cheesy, but it's all about that sweet NOLA jazz baby! For the name of the new stadium, I would have to go with the idea I came up with way back: The Trombone Dome. Really keep tying in that musical feel. I would like to have a trombone gliss for every first down played over the PA. Somehow I don't think this would get approved, but the away team's locker room would be decorated with some voodoo/witch doctor type of thing. For the found and drink in the concourse, really just playing up that Louisiana and New Orleans style cuisine. Take that shit up to an 11 and give the people a truly authentic experience. Lastly, I would start a tradition where instead of shaking keys at the start of the game for kickoff like they do in college, we should shake little shruken heads that resemble the opposing team's players. Freaky? Yep. Effective? Only one way to find out.

#25 If wide receiver would not have been available for some reason, I'm not quite sure what I would have done. Technically, Troy Barnes is supposed to be a quarterback. I just didn't quite hate myself enough to pull the trigger and commit to that level. I know that being a quarterback in this league is the biggest commitment and generally comes with the most frustrations. As I mentioned in 16, I don't really plan to max earner either. That itself is probably a death wish for having a successful career at QB. You have to earn as much as possible for as long as possible to fight regression or your ISFL career will be over in the blink of an eye. Most QBs see to wait 3-4 seasons, meaning they are going to regress after roughly 3 seasons of being called up. Ouch! So what position would Troy Barnes be then? Probably a running back. He would mainly like to play offense as that is typically more glamorous. He would have made for a fine cornerback, but he finds his mind wandering too much and that could lead to disaster. At running back, he still gets a lot of the glory and can play a huge role for a team. At the end of the day, it's all about scoring touchdowns and stacking benjamins. Oh, and also about fixing air conditioners.

RE: (S30) Ultimus Week - JuOSu - 08-26-2021

Task 6:

Something I am always fascinated with in these leagues is league history. History is what really drives me and guides how I handle my players for a long time too. One of my favorite tools in this league now and lately has been the WolfieBot, which easily shows the leaders in many categories, not just league wise but also for individual teams. I tend to look at WolfieBot several times a week and it really drives me.

I have kept my own statistics for my player for example and where he ranks in league history. I started this in S28, where for example I had 186 career tackles, which ranked me 377th all time. After S30 now, I have 280 tackles which already ranks me 318th. So I gained quite a bit! In other categories I am even better. I went from 38 tackles for loss to 42, and gained ten spots from 67th to 57th. In Forced fumbles I went from 6 to 9 and therefore from 91st to 62nd all time. In fumbles recovered my jumps have been even crazier. I only had one after S28 and now I have 5. That jumped me from 303rd to 64th. In sacks, I went from 30 to 47, which got me from 153rd to 86th. Hopefully this category I can still climb further.

I always enjoy checking out stats for players on my team as well. Slothlisberger ended his career in 11th place for career passing yards for example, just one hundred yards away from the top 10. He is also 11th in touchdowns. But in passing rating he actually made it into the top ten in 9th place.

An even bigger person I have watched for a while is star Wide Receiver Ed Barker, who had an insane career. In catches he ended up in 7th place. In receiving yards, he ended up in 4th place in the end, which is just insane! In touchdowns, while a bit lower, he did still make the top ten in 10th place.

It's still crazy to see some of my own previous stats. Julian O'Sullivan is still 5th all time in tackles, though one of my favorite players on NOLA ever, Quenton Bode has the all time record.

It's also crazy to see some users dominate certain categories. Dermot Lavelle and Dermot Lavelle Jr. being 1st and 2nd place in pass deflections is just insane to me! We also see David Rector and Andrew Witten very close to the top ten here as long term NOLA players.

I obviously always kept the top ten lists for NOLA, but it is also awesome to see these for other teams now and see what kind of history they went through. Something I find fascinating is how many different quarterbacks a team has gone through so far:

Baltimore 8
San Jose 8
Philadelphia 7
Arizona 6
Colorado 6
Yellowknife 6
Orange County 5
Sarasota 4
Honolulu 4
Las Vegas 3
New Orleans 3
Chicago 3

Austin 2
Berlin 1
New York 1

Obviously some teams have more history than others, but this is still interesting. I also think that this is one of the only things I don't like about the wolfiebot and something I am not happy with, which is that different branding for teams are seen as different franchises. To me, this goes against what is usually done in American Sports. So in this case, New Orleans and Las Vegas are seen as two different franchises, so some of the records aren't really the way I would have them in my own lists,  as I counted Las Vegas as the same franchise.

What I would love to see in the future, though I am not sure how easy this would be, would be to look for a player in career or season records and immediately get what rank they are in those lists. You can look up player statistics but you don't see a rank there. But it would be awesome to not have to look through the many pages to find your player, but just being able to look for it and have it all listed. Like hey, you are 24th in career tackles, 40th in tackles for loss, etc. But I am not sure if this would be doable.

It really influences my player and how I am playing. I never want to switch positions since I want to be able to climb those leaderboards and it really will affect what player or position I recreate as as well. I just want to be able to climb those lists. Sadly, in my case, I was hoping to break the career record for tackles for loss, which due to the new sim is now basically impossible. That being said, I am still somewhat pleased with my progress and hopefully I can continue to do well and climb the leaderboards more in the future until I reach regression and eventually recreate.

The regular season is finally over and the Luchadors are well on their way into the playoffs. We sealed out fate on our own and couldn't be prouder. What I bring to the team is an overwhelming massive pancake breakfast. Every day before gametime Zoltan whips up a big ol' batch of pancakes. This pregame ritual is integral for his performance to earn as many pancakes as possible. Syrup is ONLY earned with each pancakes gotten on the field. Zoltan can be seen sitting at his locker getting ready sucking down pancakes Kobiyashi style with a large glass of water with the IHOP logo on the side. Not only am I able to bring on field performance but I am a great guy to have around your locker room. Carbo-loading baby, I'm brining pancakes. All the game ready carbohydrate goodness with none of the sugary syrup for the rest of the team to crash in the second half. Zoltan raises up the spirits of his fellow teammates and anyone he is able to share the locker room. Its a small price to pay for Zoltan peddling around to his teammates asking for donations to the Cult of Zoltan. We all know he has enough money, but he is always looking for more.

If my current position wasn't available when I created my player, I think that instead of being an offensive lineman I would have ended up being a kicker and punter. I'm the kind of person that wants a low stress position where the amount of TPE that I can earn can be utilized well, but if I do happen to miss something it won't really hold me back. The offensive lineman position was perfect for that and I think that his new role would work really well too. Its still important enough to where there is a big advantage skill wise in having an actual human player compared to a bot. Its definitely fun to see the kicker and punters having an impact on the field as well. You see some games can really be decided by a field goal or an extra kick, but then again having an Offensive lineman on the field as well. You may be able to salvage a 3rd down or 4th down conversion by not allowing a sack. These positions seem pretty integral to the team for me and therefore would probably be a great match if I were to do it all over again. I know kickers are also in demand because its not a position a whole lot of people want to play.

2.5 TPE 16. This task is exclusive to recreate/non-recreate rookies of the S31 class and later. The season is over and the draft is coming up. What do you bring to a team, and why should a team choose to take a chance on you next season?

Pasta the Turtle is very eager to bring his previous athletic success to whichever team decides to draft him in the DSFL. A multiport athlete, Pasta's first love was hockey and he continues to enjoy success in that arena. However as a late arriver as a walk-on at the University of Newfoundland, he ignited a new passion....for pancakes. He knows that he will be able to bring a tenacious and aggressive playstyle to whatever team takes a chance on him, as well as a silly locker room presence. He is often found making strange jokes and sharing obscure memes, which his team mates in the past have used to rally around. Furthermore, Pasta, as his name would suggest, is an incredible chef, and will frequently be seen preparing team dinners, usually pretty loaded with carbohydrates. WHile pasta is a historical specialty, his taste for pancakes has followed him off the field, and he is now frequently seen getting the boys fed with a variety of breakfast foods, waffles, scones, muffins and of course, pancakes. It can be a bit nerve-racking joining a new league, a new sport, but pasta is sure that it will be  worth coming out of his shell to try something new

5 TPE 14. Describe your player and/or team’s journey through this latest season. What were the highlights? What were the lower points? What might you have done differently? What are your expectations for next season?

Pasta had a crazy season this past year. He started the year in his senior year at the Univerity of Newfoundland, and ended his season across the pond with the London Royals. The Canadian University had another rough year, unfortunately. With very few wins under the belt, the team was able to boast the QB with the cleanest jersey, as pash rushers had a VERY hard time getting past the magnificent turtle guarding his blind side. Unfortunately, the QB was not able to convert all that extra time in the pocket into very convincing passing stats, although he did take a few opportunities to nap, or have a snack, much to the frustration of his teammates. The fans didn't mind though, as their eyes were completely focussed on Pasta the Turtle, as he flawlessly executed his pass protection, violently drove opposing defensive players backwards on running plays, and aggressively gulped down water during the timeouts. He was an absolute menace, and the Newfoundland faithful were deeply appreciative.

Certainly, a highlight would include travelling to Anchorage, where Pasta set a single game record of 25 pancakes. No matter who the Anchorage team placed in front of the rabid turtle, he would swiftly deposit them onto their back for a nice dirt nap. This, unfortunately, did not translate into success on the scoreboard, as the defence proved porous, and the rest of his offensive teammates were more interested in being spectators of the violence being administered by their reptilian teammate than executing their role on offence.

A true disappointment would be Pasta's collective 0-24 record with the University of Newfoundland. Although he does have fond memories of his time at the only school crazy enough to take on a turtle on their o-line, he regrets not being able to bring home any silverware. It can be tough to find the motivation to keep showing up for practice, film analysis, pregame warmups and post game recovery sessions when you are always losing. This was never a challenge given how cohesive and inclusive the locker room was. It is a certainty that Pasta would never be considered a prospect for the ISFL if it wasn't for his University giving him a chance, and his coaches and teammates supporting him the whole way through. He knows that as his time has run out at the university, they will be sure to take joy in his future success at the ISFL as well as the developmental leagues. He is forever a part of that family and is incredibly motivated to do proud by them.

His first taste of the big leagues was a waiver pick up by the London Royals. He was ecstatic for the opportunity to start out at tackle for them. Although he did give up an early sack, a true rarity for him, he did manage to contribute in his favourite area: pancakes. Dropping 20 opponents to the dirt in his mere 4 games, he was operating at 5 per game. Truly an inspiring start for a player who was just joining the DSFL. Looking forward to seeing what the future holds.
