(S5) - PT 5 - Awards - run_CMC - 01-27-2018 Let me tell you why Julian O'Sullivan has put on one of the best defensive seasons in NSFL history. He is an unstoppable force. A monster of a fan. A freight train barreling down on quarterbacks who no offensive lineman can hope to stop. Over the course of the season, O'Sullivan amassed 14 sacks, tied for second with 3 other players from his team, and beaten only by Angus Winchester with 17 (but the ridiculousness that is the Otters front 7 is a topic for another day). What sets him apart from these other guys, though, is he also has the side to side speed and ball tracking skills to get in front of receivers and make big plays that don't involve sacks. TLDR: He had 9 pass deflections and 3 interceptions. A true dual threat linebacker. Lastly, his pursuit is up there with the best in the game, which took him to 92 combined tackles on the season. And again I remind you: he's showcasing incredible skills despite being surrounded by other elite defensive players who could be stealing his thunder. It is for all these reasons I believe Julian O'Sullivan deserves the defensive player of the year award. There are people with more sacks, more interceptions, etc. But O'Sullivan is the only one who can do it all. He has really upped his play this season as the top defensive back in the league and on the Liberty. He narrowly edges out my teammate Clee Hardrool for the hardware. Let's take a look at his stats. He has a respectable 67 tackles to his name which doesn't put him in the upper echelon of defensive backs but is still a strong number. He is at the top of the pack with 2 TFLs and his 1 forced fumble with recovery is decent. However, Marmeladov shines in the pass defense game, leading the league in interceptions with 7, to go with his healthy 8 pass deflections. He can also rush the passer as his 3 sacks rank in the top ten of defensive backs. He is also one of seven players with a safety, and the only defensive back. He is also one of four players with two touchdowns. I really think the stats speak for themselves here, Vikain Marmeladov is the S5 defensive back of the year. But, if you need a little more, Marmeladov was the anchor for the second best pass defense unit in the league. Not only is he good, but he makes his teammates better too. (S5) - PT 5 - Awards - sapp2013 - 01-28-2018 Alright so I am here to talk about Rookie of the year. Not offense, not defense, straight up, rookie of the year. and the only player that should be considered for this award is Andre Bly Jr. sure, I am tooting my own horn, but here are the facts: Andre is #3 in touchdowns scored by rookies. Why is this significant? He didn't play a SNAP of offense, where 9 played on offense in the NSFL. Also a stat for players who never play offense? NO ONE scored 3 touchdowns, except for Mr. Bly. 4 Interceptions is tied for first with all rookies. only 2 rookies scored defensive touchdowns, and Bly was one of them. #2 in rookie tackles. #2 in rookie Pass deflections. He also leads all rookies in every meaningful kick and punt return stat, and 1 of 3 players with 2 return TDs, one of those players being his teammate Brice Boggs, which may have given Bly more chances at touchdowns. Sure, some of these stats my warrant a discussion for defensive Rookie of the year, and Andre would not turn down that award, but the one award that should be an anonymous winner should be the Rookie of the year, and it should be handed to none other than Andre Bly Jr. Why not Bly? #Bly4ROTY Code: 220 words (S5) - PT 5 - Awards - Battleborn - 01-28-2018 Ryan Sierra – DT – Orange County Otters Season 5 PT 5 – Awards This week’s point task asks for a discussion regarding the NSFL's potential award winner, either DSFL or NSFL. I’m choosing to write about the NSFL's defensive rookie of the year race. Being a rookie myself, I feel I am most qualified to address the top rookies on the defensive side of the ball. My draft classmates, Andre Bly Jr., Terrell Brister, Teegan Atwell, Igor Medved, Gregory Fletcher, Michael Tilman, Isaac Brown who have all made an impact for their teams. While statistically comparing the many defensive backs in the class, it is truly amazing to see the number of tackles accumulated by each ABJ, Terrell Brister, and Gregory Fletcher, not only do they support their team's ground defense, but they also defend the aerial attacks of their rivals. The pass deflections are important statistical data when analyzing the effectiveness of defensive backs, while interceptions are the holy grail of a DB's success. The sack carries more weight when stifling an opponents drive than a pass deflection. The act of reaching a quarterback who is being protected by five mammoth humans is degrading and drive killing while energizing the defense. There is only one rookie who can boast a league dominating, 14 sacks. He is I, I is him, slim with a tilted brim, Ryan Sierra. While tied with 3 other teammates for 2nd on his own team for sacks, Sierra would be the sack leader on every other team in the NSFL. No rookie has been statistically dominating as Sierra. Finally, adding to the legend of Ryan Sierra, he leads all DT’s in sacks, forced fumbles, and safeties. I, Ryan Sierra, am your Defensive Rookie of the Year. Word count: 278 (S5) - PT 5 - Awards - Oles - 01-28-2018 Written: Must include 200 words. With the season winding down soon the awards committee will be coming together and making their choices for various awards. Pick a player/gm you feel deserves an award and write about why they do. Include 1 statistic and what award you think they should win. Harrif Ernston should be LB of the Year. The LB from the Outlaws had a fantastic season for the team, and while he may not have the lead in sacks like some other LBs, he has been a fantastic defensive powerhouse. Ernston had 100 tackles, 10 tackles for los, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovery, 12 sacks, 2 interceptions and 13 passes defended. He leads LBs in tackles for loss and was able to help in coverage as well for the Outlaws. While some LBs hang their hat on sacks and single statistics, Ernston was able to be an all-around force for the team, helping in run defense, pass rushing, and pass defense for the Outlaws. His ability to be a versatile player who can excel in all facets of the game is what makes him the best LB to me, and it makes him one of the top players in the league. Not many players can say they do it all and do it all well, as typically some players will struggle in some spots, but Ernston is not one of those players, and Ernston will continue to be a quiet force for the Outlaws as long as his career goes on.
