(S8) - PT 2 - Memorial Day - PigSnout - 06-02-2018 Boss Tweed doesn't have any relatives who served in the military, so he doesn't have any in particular to remember on Memorial Day. Because of this, it usually isn't really a particularly somber day for him. Instead, he uses the day to celebrate the freedom that others died fighting for. Usually, his family has a get together. He heads back home to the east coast and some of his relatives from up north come down so everyone gets to see each other. On the Sunday before Memorial Day, they go to a baseball game to see the local team in action and have a good time. On Memorial Day, everyone goes to Tweed's parents' house to visit a little bit. The family has a barbecue and has a family football game. Generally the football game starts with a big argument about which team Tweed will play on considering that he is the only professional football player in the family. The fun goes on through the evening and at nightfall they cap it off with some fireworks. Tweed's uncle usually buys the fireworks and brings them over and gets them set up. Each year he tries to outdo the previous year's firework show. Overall it's a fun a day for Tweed and his family. Quote:213 Words (S8) - PT 2 - Memorial Day - dropbear - 06-02-2018 Originally being from Australia, Howard Miller typically reflects on the sacrifices of the ANZACS - the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps - something Ardie Savea (@Ben) will no doubt be familiar with. This is done annually on the 25th of April, with many attending services of remembrance throughout the day, though Miller favours the dawn service in particular. It marks the anniversary of the first major military action fought by Australians and New Zealanders, though also broadly commemorates servicemen and servicewomen. With that said, having moved to the United States, and even regardless of the fact, Miller deeply appreciates the sacrifices of the military personnel and civilians who have fought, suffered, and died for the freedoms enjoyed by those who remain. He doesn't party or go away for the long weekend, despite being given the freedom to by the Colorado Yeti coaching staff, but rather takes the time to reflect on what was given up so that he could be here to make that choice. With that said, he doesn't think there is anything wrong with taking the freedoms we have been provided with and using them to enjoy fun times with friends and family - in his opinion, it's what those who serve would want. Having grown up on a small farm his family never took a day off for a holiday because they didn't have enough money to do so. If they weren't working in the fields, the Winchester men would busy themselves working on repairs or doing odd jobs around town trying to get some extra money, even on holidays. After leaving home to play college ball his days off of school were completely devoted to football, so memorial day just became a day for more exercise. Now that things have somewhat settled down for Angus and he has his own family he likes to take the opportunity on memorial day to spend time with his wife and kids. They usually like to have a farm hand stay and watch the animals while they go spend the weekend camping in one of the nearby state or national parks in his Northern California offseason home. Angus takes the time to teach his kids how to fish, build campfires, set up and take down camp, shoot rifles, hike and other things that he loved doing as a kid but never had a lot of time for. (S8) - PT 2 - Memorial Day - Roly - 06-02-2018 Darren Morris loves holidays. And while that may seem like an obvious statement, he doesn’t share the same feeling with a lot of his family who are too busy working to celebrate together. Morris likes to spend his time going to Oklahoma and getting away into nature on long holiday weekends - he loves getting into the state parks and relaxing with some pints and a good set of BBQ ribs, roasted on the open fire. He’s a big outdoorsman, so memorial weekend coming near the start of summer is big for Morris - it means the start of his avid northern state camping and off-roading season. It’s another reason Darren Morris loves playing for the Arizona Outlaws - the desert in Arizona allows for longer camping and hiking and General summer seasons. Indeed it’s often almost year around the Morris gets to get out to the desert and some of the other Arizona landmarks and grill on the BBQ. But he still loves using Memorial weekend to hit up northern states like Michigan or New York to get into some proper woods and forests. He sometimes even goes into Canada - the parks are endless and the tranquility incredible. 200 words (S8) - PT 2 - Memorial Day - OBESE - 06-02-2018 World has went through so many bad moments and war is one of the worst ones. A lot people have lost their brothers, sisters, fathers, mothers and friends so you must celebrate their sacrifice for our peace! Although Harp just moved to US and unfortunately he cannot feel the same connection with his fellow teammates and people around him, but he sure does respect them! Every country has Memorial Day's and the ways how you spend them or how you honour the people that have passed away differs as well. So Declan decided to split the day in two parts! First part consisted of honouring the people that sacrificed their lives as he would do back in London! He went to the Memorial, places down flowers and took a minute of silence! The other part consisted of embracing the new culture that he is part of now and spent the rest of the day in a way that people in US does. The Kansas City Town in honour of the Memorial Day had set up various activities in the town with loads of food, drinking and fun times in general. It is a way of celebrating - being happy for those that could not be with us to be happy next to us but would if they could! Code: 217 (S8) - PT 2 - Memorial Day - Unicorn - 06-02-2018 Valentine is not big into holidays especially Memorial Day since Memorial Day is a holiday that I never celebrated when I was younger, but when I grew up I started to appreciate the day more. All that Memorial Day meant to me when I was younger was that there was no school. Nobody in my family is a veteran, so it is not a big holiday in my family. I have never celebrated Memorial Day for the first 15 years of my life. While I was born in Minneapolis half of my family was from Canada so the holiday was very scarcely celebrated. But over the years I learned more about what people went through and what happened in war that I learned to appreciate it more. Although the Holiday doesn't mean much for my family, Valentine will be having a BBQ with is family and will be heading downtown and to the university campus to celebrate. I plan to eat a lot to bulk up for the upcoming DSFL season. Hopefully I will see a lot of people celebrating and will be able to join. I plan to make a tradition to celebrate Memorial Day every single year to come, even thought it doesn't mean much for my family. (S8) - PT 2 - Memorial Day - Supersquare04 - 06-02-2018 Dwayne Aaron comes from a military family. His brother, father, grandfather, and great grandfather all served in the army so memorial day serves as a big holiday for the family. They usually all get together at their grandparents house and spend the day BBQing and having great homemade food. Dwayne Aaron used to invite some of his friends in high school to hang out and have fun with. Naturally when the annual family touch football game starts Dwayne Aaron is usually dominant, but his brother gives him a little trouble because he's over 6 foot 5 inches tall and athletic from being a marine. But nonetheless When Aaron wants to he can easily fake him out on an ankle breaker route or just speed past him. This season Dwayne Aaron invited his entire family down to the Colorado Yeti stadium to hang out with some of his teammates and see around the place. It was really fun and a lot of his fellow Yeti had their family there too so it was really a collections of dads BBQing and making a bunch of food. There were numerous jokes made about Applehorts du- I mean awesome name from friends and family. All in all everyone had a great time, and who knows maybe they will come down again next year. This Memorial Day, Dean Jackson woke up early and drove to the nearby cemetery. His grandfather and uncle both served, in the army and Air Force respectively. Neither died in combat, though the uncle died in a training exercise gone wrong. So, Jackson has made a routine of visiting their graves, leaving flowers, saying a prayer, and taking some minutes of reflection before moving on to the rest of his day. On this particular one, he and some friends not on the team chose to hang out and have a chill cookout. Burgers on the grill, soda, and watching some NBA playoffs. A good time all around. After doing that for a bit, they went out to a concert to hear the Phoenix Symphony and Phoenix Chorale perform Verdi’s famous Requiem. Though not specifically about soldiers and veterans, the well-known classical piece is still a fittingly sad tale of mourning, originally written for the one year anniversary of the death of some dude who’s name I forget. Anyways, after that Jackson drove home to wind down by himself for a few hours before going a few miles down the road to have dinner with his family. (214 words) |
