This season is already shaping up to be a fantastic rookie start for Xandra Troyski. In the most recent game in the record books, week 4’s non-divisional matchup with the Norfolk Seawolves, Xandra had a notable 8 tackles and a forced fumble plus recovery. She is obviously making those tackles, and no receivers have out-paced her yet. But, she and her team expect that she will really focus on her strength moving forward, as for some of those tackles they felt there were too many yards after the catch. So, clearly she would like to spend this year (and hopefully next year as well) working on building a classicly great man-to-man cornerback skill set. Xandra would really like to find a mentor CB - she has been coached a bit by her GM, @iseedoug, but he was not a cornerback in his day and has the whole team to worry about, as well.

At a higher level, Xandra’s bigger goals this season are to get to know this league, the people, the rivalries, and the game as it is played in the DSFL. She would really like to become a part of the community, but as it always is, settling in as a brand new player is difficult. Her imposter syndrome feelings are strong at times, so getting to know folks and getting a feel for the locker room banter is a focus item.

Obviously, as well, Xandra would love to be part of a championship winning team and help the Luchas bring home a back-to-back championship!

Being entirely new to the league, Lo Rax is not quite sure where his expectations should lie, both in regards to his own personal performance, and the performance of his team, the Kansas City Coyotes.

"Well, it's tough to say. I'm not naive enough to think I'm going to come in here and dominate the league as a rookie. Hell, even beyond this season that'll probably never happen- but I know I can be better than I am right now. So far I've managed about 2 tackles a game, and .25 sacks. I don't think the tackle rate is so bad, but I need to get up my TFL and/or sack numbers, at least a little. Hopefully I can get around 35 tackles, with 8 TFL and 5 sacks, or something like that, if I HAD to put numbers on it. But honestly, I just want to do my part in this team to the best of my ability.

I think the team is poised to have a great year. We had that hot 2-0 start, followed by the cold 0-2 run we're coming off of, but I think the former is more indicative of who we are as a team than the latter. If we can keep it going on O and step up the D as the season goes on, we have a chance to be great. So clearly, there's a big focus on my side of the ball, so I'm a part of that. We've got to get better as a unit to get better as a team"

With KCC positioned in the middle of their division at 2-2, they've got to step it up across the board to meet any lofty expectations that players and fans alike may have. As for Rax, he may be setting his sights a bit high in terms of bringing down ball carriers behind the LOS, but he's probably pretty close on tackles. With him not mentioning splash plays at all, one has to wonder if there's any focus on that area from the coaching staff...

The expectations for the Philadelphia Liberty are minimal this season. The Philadelphia Liberty have fallen fast since their S7 Ultimus Championship. There are very few players still on the the team that were even part of that title. Quarterback Tyler Oles has been replaced by journeyman Logan Noble. Noble has been out of the NSFL for a couple seasons, and was working as a grocery bagger when Philadelphia reached out to him. Now Noble is tasked with not only resurrecting his career, but the hopes and dreams of Philadelphia Liberty fans. Future Hall of Fame tight end Paul DiMirio was traded to the New Orleans Second Line last season. He has been replaced by Steven O’Sullivan who has had a rather lackluster career and will certainly not come close to the production that Liberty fans are used to seeing out of the tight end position. The Liberty didn’t stop there though, they dealt many other key pieces of their championship team leaving them with a bare bones roster. Carter Bush is the sole highlight on offense, but one player doesn’t win a championship. The early returns on rookie defensive end Brock Weathers have been great, but again there is not much talent around him. I’d expect the Liberty to lose a lot of games this season. They might not be the worst team in the league, but they do not have any playoff hopes. However, with a ton of picks in the deep S10 draft, the Liberty could be turning things around rather quickly in the near future.

You would think that winning the Ultimus last season would mean that the Wraiths have some pretty high expectations. We've seen the Outlaws 3 peat, the Otters 3 peat and the Liberty go into a planned rebuild after their trophy win. The Wraiths are not going to rebuild, and yet, the expectations aren't that high. We are planning on making the playoffs, but are we the favourites? No way. The youth movement has started in the NSFL with teams like the Second Line and the Yeti starting to rise in the ranks. The Hawks have a roster primed for a run at the Trophy. So expectations are high, but coming off the championship, expectations are relatively low. As for Cameron Taylor, he's never been any good on the stat sheets, so again, expectations are pretty low. A handful of sacks, 2 or 3 picks, 75 tackles. A pretty good, but pretty boring season in the grand scheme of things. Taylor has been doing that same exact season since his rookie season. No reason to expect anything else. So in summary, there should be no surprises this season. YKW will sneak into the playoffs with a mediocre record and Taylor will have another average season. 205

The Yellowknife Wraiths had a phenomenal season last year. With the loss of Er some might expect the defense to take a hit, but Evok coming in makes the defense just as good as it was if not better. The expectation has to be that the team wins the Ultimus again. The goal of a team each season has to be to improve and if you've just won the Ultimus anything but another Ultimus win has to be seen as failure. Chad Pennington as an individual expects to be the top 5 for line backers in the league. Last season was a great start to his NSFL career, who could complain about being an Ultimus champion already??? But to go from being Defensive Player of the Year, Defensive Rookie of the Year and Rookie of the Year in the DSFL to being just another line backer on his team in the NSFL is a hard thing to deal with. Fortunately it only caused him to work harder to get to where he wants to be. Chad Pennington will do everything he can to achieve his two expectations for this season.

1.) Be a top 3 defensive player on the Yellowknife Wraiths.

2.) Be a top 5 line backer in the league.

Seer Zephyrous really has no expectations for this season. He finds expectations to lead to disappointment. Ideally, he would like to play running back or fullback for any of the development football teams and begin vigorous training. This is to get ready to make it in the big league.

He's hoping that he can be finished with his speed training and begin focusing all of his energy in to getting better at blocking and getting stronger overall. Ideally, he would like to play on a team where there is already an established running back so he can begin to practice motion blocking,

As far as draft stock. I think he would make a solid late 1st round draft pick. Really though, I think a blocking back would be great for any team that is looking to really assert dominance through the usage of a power blocking strategy.

I'm not that interested in personal stats, and I don't really care about my goal line carries. I do expect to have a team that is scoring more than any other team with my ability to give the running back access to the secondary, or give my quarterback ample time to make the big play.

When this reporter asked Second Line Wide Receiver ShaDarrien LaMelllana on his expectations for the upcoming season, we got a little bit of everything. Take a look:

"Expectations? Man, I was a 4th round draft pick, and most people wrote me off as someone that wasn't even gonna be around this season. So no, I'm not to worried about expectations. Man, you think Howard the Alien is worried about expectations? Nah, he just jammin out with that weird dance he do to the first part of "Money Longer" by Lil Uzi Vert. Man, everytime I see that meme I keep thinking Lil Uzi gonna start rappin but he never does, it's just little Howard jammin out. Oh yeah, expectations. Well I mean if I even play this season it'll be a blessing. A touchdown? Man, that'd be wild. But I've got my celebration lined up already. Imma have them play the Money Longer by Lil Uzi Vert instrumental and hit that cool dance that my boi Howard the Alien hits. What a cool dude. Y'all ever met Howard the Alien? Me neither, but he seem tight."

Oftentimes I am asked why I would ever want to stop doing my job. Players like this are the reason why.

Expectations in San Jose are pretty low to say the least regarding this season in particular. The team was mostly deconstructed last year and most of our upcoming talent is developing in the DSFL. We are not explicitly tanking, but the team simply doesn't have very many players who can reasonably compete at the NSFL level. I expect we can win a game or two against struggling Arizona and Philadelphia teams, but nothing is certain. In relation to myself the very least I would like to accomplish is some kind of performance that improves upon last season. Seven touchdowns and thirty one interceptions isn't exactly a high bar to eventually overcome. The receiving corps took a huge hit with the departure of Mayran Jackson, but Shane Weston is still around for another season. However, the team has improved at tight end by drafting the Tijuana Luchadores star Zapp Brannigan. He's already a huge improvement from Break Bottles and Tor Tuck Jr. at his current level. Historically young Quarterbacks still struggle, so my stats may not improve all that much despite my ongoing development. I'd say that this is a season to have fun and not worry about winning or losing persay since a few other teams are in the same exact position.
