I'm not much of a fortune teller, but not so long ago I saw a dream about Yellowknife Wraiths. In my dream, the Wraiths won multiple championships. I don't know exactly what was the time period, but I was playing, so that suggests that year 2021 could very well be the year of the Wraiths.

The new sim engine is an interesting one. I must admit that I have not done too much research on the new sim, but I imagine that some teams and players will benefit from it. Perhaps not necessarily because the players have good builds or some teams are just so talented, but the coaches and general managers who really know football could now shine. That is based on assumption that the new sim tries to be realistic. Once again I would bring attention to the Yellowknife Wraiths. The team is built right, the team is ready to win no matter what the sim is. I'm confident that Yellowknife and the players will be among those who will have a good time in the new sim.

Since the move the new sim happens, some tricks and things potentially might not work and that will cause problems to those teams who are not able to adjust. Who those teams are is anyone's guess, but I know for a fact that Yellowknife Wraiths is ready.

This is an interesting question, although I don't think a ton will change effectively. Which isn't an answer as interesting as the question. I believe that the teams will most likely be in the same positions as before; I don't think that DDSPF21 is going to redefine the world order. What I do think it'll do is raise the profile of the league and make it more attractive to new users. The sim visuals are, frankly, probably the worst part of this league. Which is unfortunate, because it's the most forward facing part of the league. That is to say, if someone searches for the league they'll find 1. The forum, which is visually hard to follow without experience, 2. The wiki, which is weird without context, but probably more understandable than the forum, and finally 3. The YouTube channel. People like watching YouTube videos. They'll click that. But what they'll see is barely football. DDSPF21 is not a fully rendered sim engine, but it is more visually interesting. Also the name alone, using the latest version of the game makes us sound more cutting edge or up to date. When you hear the league uses a weird game that's five years old it sounds like we're behind the times. So in conclusion, I don't think it'll change much, but it will raise our ceiling for growth.

The year 2021 will bring some great things to the ISFL. It will also bring some terrible things.

The sim is going to be awesome. We will see variety like we’ve never seen before. We will be able to have more control over our players and teams. We will grow to our largest player base ever. We will prosper.

For the first part of the year.

Shortly after the S27 Ultimus, the ISFL will begin an unstoppable descent. Wolverine Studios will activate the hidden mechanism in the sim in order to destroy all players, teams, records, and histories. Having weaponized SARS-CoV-2 as a computer virus, every user’s computer will be functionally destroyed. Lawsuits will rain down, and a class will form. We win the case, but the judge only awards us $1 since he is unable to quantify damages.

The players turn against the GMs and HO and demand to seize the means of production. The ISFL turns into a communist community after violently overthrowing those in power. Other simulation leagues, fearing similar issues within their ranks, wage war on the ISFL. The attacks are brutal. Loss of fictional life numbers in the hundreds. When it’s all over, only one league will stand.

Will it be us?

As with most hobbies that eventually have to evolve and change, I expect there to naturally be disgruntlement with the new changes as well as some attrition. People love doing the same stuff over and over again. This seems especially true with us nerds. People like to ‘solve’ the games we play and discover the most efficient way to beat it or gain the advantage over other players. This is exemplified in how the 2016 version of the sim was decompiled. Players literally picked apart the program’s code to find what was most advantageous to them. So, what does this mean for 2021? This season is going to probably be anyone’s game. No one knows which traits or archetypes are the best and people are already heating up the media pages with their breakdowns and analyses while they try to prematurely solve all the puzzles. In the end, I believe that the teams who will have the best performances will be the ones with the most effective communication with their players. This will be a difficult transition. The more knowledgeable players are of their skill requirements and what is needed, the easier it’ll be to start setting new career goals. Teams with shaky mentoring will struggle, while teams with the smoothest transitions will most likely succeed and maybe even win the ultimus.

Graphic Option: Create a graphic showing the steps your team or player will take to adjust to the new sim.

The thing about predicting the future is that people assume that change is something that happens at a predictable pace. While change is inevitable, it moves at an erratic pace. It slows and speeds up at random intervals, with no warning as to where those intervals start and end. Expecting any sort of change is idiotic, while hoping for stability is fruitless. Instead, simply act. Just go about your day, go about your life as you see fit. For this league, it’s simply this: Activity Check, Training Purchase, PT. With the sporadic article/podcast and equipment purchases mixed in. I expected to not be on this site by this time. I was hoping that I’d have finally broken free from online relationships after having finally figured out real world relationships, but I’m still here. Plans are stupid and always fall apart. I can try to make the same plan for this coming year, but I’ve already proven how easily it can be broken. We all can make plans and set goals, but the reality is that nothing moves until people move. And many of us haven’t moved from this spot since March. The Otters continue to make the playoffs and HO will continue to suck.
