RE: (S32) PT 1 - Mentor - TubaDeus - 11-09-2021 "Now listen, Baron. I know your father Aaron and I have been pretty successful professional football players, so there's a good chance you will be a successful football player as well. It's in your blood. But there's more to football than just being the fastest and strongest. Sure, both of those things help, but being big, fast, and dumb ain't gonna cut it. If all you're doing is running randomly around the field these teams will eat you alive." "Don't believe me? Quick, the play call is Brown Right F Short 2 Jet Flanker Drive. What do you do? RRRRR, times up! You just lined up in the wrong spot. Failed to cover the tight end. Illegal formation, 5 yard penalty. Alright, back in the huddle. Play call is Spider 2 Y Banana. Go! Alright, good...nope, wrong route. Your QB was expecting you to be in this spot. He just threw an interception because of your mistake. You play like that in a game, you're getting benched. Keep it up, you're out of the league. Ever hear of Jamarcus Russell? Don't be Jamarcus Russell. You need to study. You need to know how to study. Being big and fast is great and all, but being big, fast, and in the right spot is downright deadly. You want to be the G.O.A.T.? Study up." I know playing football is something you enjoy and making it to the ISFL is your dream, just like it was mine. What you don't understand is the hard work that went on behind the scenes of me kicking ass on the football field. I had to study and keep my grades up all the time. My backup plan was to be a computer programmer. Yes, you need to have a backup plan because making it to the ISFL is a one in a million chance. You need to prepare for life like you're not going to play football at the highest level. I know it's harsh, but it's the truth. There's going to come a time when you realize that it's a possibility that you don't make it, and then you're going to thank me for telling you to have a backup plan. I know this isn't what you want to hear right now, but I can't let you go through your life thinking that something close to impossible is something that will definitely happen to you. You can still train and put in the work for football, but you absolutely must be prepared to be told no when it comes to this." RE: (S32) PT 1 - Mentor - JuOSu - 11-10-2021 Well, you need to listen to me boy. I was once like you. I had a lot of hopes and dreams and I really wanted to fulfill them. But then I got distracted a bit, off the beaten path and suddenly it looked like maybe my dreams weren't coming so true. I needed to work hard on myself in order to impress people. I slacked so hard, I was taken after a kicker in the first round in my first ISFL draft. A KICKER! But then I put my hard work to it and over time I improved and got better. I ended up a hall of famer for god sake. And you can do the same if you work hard on your dreams. You can achieve the best if you try hard. I believe in you and I think you can follow in my footsteps, but it will take hard work, determination and a big chip on your shoulder. RE: (S32) PT 1 - Mentor - Menace0528 - 11-10-2021 Let’s be honest: looking to be a professional athlete is a bad idea. Or well, it’s not always bad, but it’s highly unlikely that you’ll become a high-profile athlete, so dedicating yourself to it, to the point that grades are going downhill, is probably a bad sign unless you’re completely sure that you’ll end up being a pro athlete. So I’d probably talk to him about how hard it is to become a pro athlete. Maybe i’d scare him, try to spook him from being a pro athlete in order to help his grades. Okay, so here me out here. I make an athlete haunted house. I get some other people from Berlin, and we all dress up in spooky costumes. What we will do is we’ll have this relative of mine so scared that he’ll associate athletes with this feeling of being scared, and therefore he will be unable to perform in organized sports due to the fear he would have every time he takes the field. Okay maybe this is a little bit of a manipulative tactic, and i’m sure there’s a better way to go about this, but like, it might work! And if it improves his grades, isn’t that what really matters in the end? His uncle Edwards middle son, Roger Reed, is one who is a very gifted baseball pitcher who has an extremely nasty Forkball that earned him scouting talks from several teams including the San Diego Padres. Roger was so flattered by his talks he slacked off in school a bit, started showing up late and missing a few practices with the Podunk Penguin's- his Legion team. Since Pizzaman is a familyman at heart, Roger's father Edward- no relation to the Raven, gave Pizzaman a call to come visit during his ISFL bye week. Pizzaman came to the home and caught a few fastones from the young reed and after had a little chat. He stressed the importance of a backup plan and a solid set of core values. Pizzaman had so many friends that he grew up with playing ball with and one by one more and more couldnt keep up with the competition. Sports is more than just athletic ability- being able to recall the intricate pitch signs from the coach, learning the batter scouting report, doing the extra work to stand out from the bunch is what separates the good from the great. Roger crosses his arms and drops his head- Pizzaman can tell he's heard this spiel before. Pizzaman changes his tune and asks Roger why he is slacking off. Roger hesitates and then says, well my girlfriend sai.... Pizzaman interrupts and says, WHOA not my area of expertise. GOOD LUCK! My goodness, you've put on some muscle and it's clear this weight gain hasn't slowed you down one bit. In fact, you've gotten faster! I've heard that you hope to follow in my foot steps and become an ISFL player. I'm so happy to hear that you're aiming to do what I do. To help you prepare, let me give you a little insight into what each day of mine looks like. At about 5am I wake up so that I can make a quality breakfast and enjoy half an hour of yoga to stretch my limbs out. At 6am, I drive to the practice facilities and begin lifting weights. I transition to HIIT by 7am before meeting with coaches at 7:30am. From 7:30 to 9am we watch film and then hit the fields for practice from 9 to 11am. Oh, your practices are only one hour long? No no no in the ISFL we have 2-3 hour practices twice a day and that doesn't count weight room time. Why do I do extra workouts? Well you won't make the ISFL if you don't. Some of the most impressive people tend to work 8-10 hours a day on building their mental state, they're very smart, and have careers that last a life time. With the ISFL, I probably work 14-16 hours a day, my body is destroyed, and if I'm lucky I'll play another 4-5 years before regression forces me into retirement. But hey, if you want to do what I do, stop waking up at 11am this summer and get up at 5am to start training. You've got this! RE: (S32) PT 1 - Mentor - Briedaqueduc - 11-10-2021 SHL Affiliate |
