(S12) - PT 4 - Midseason Review - PDXBaller - 01-05-2019 Well, it’s over the midseason of S12 and Axel is pretty disappointed with how things have turned out. He thought that joining a championship team would mean they would still be playoff competitors. However, the New Orleans Second Line is 3rd in the ASFC and it doesn’t look like they will make the playoffs since the San Jose Sabercats and the Orange County Otters are both 9-1. New Orleans has no chance to make the playoffs now even if they win out and SJ and/or OCO lose out. There’s no chance at all for Axel to get any playoff experience in his rookie season. Hopes were very high coming into the season and Axel worked his butt off to be in shape. He’s in the best shape of his life right now and is one of the faster defensive backs on the team, but it hasn’t been enough to make an impact. He felt pretty good coming into the season with some solid wins over Yellowknife, Colorado, and Arizona, but after losing to powerhouses like Balitmore and San Jose, things are looking grim for the Second Line. Axel is opting out of his contract next season to test free agency as a result of the current season’s standings. (S12) - PT 4 - Midseason Review - MrStennett - 01-05-2019 Thorian Skarsgard is once again having the kind of season that a lot of players can only hope to achieve for the Tijuana Luchadores. Riding the wave of being selected to be a team captain this season after competing for the Linebacker of the Year award last season, Thorian is once again making his presence felt for a Luchadores defense that is currently first in the DSFL in points allowed. Leading the team in tackles for a second consecutive season, he is not only proud of his own play up to this point, but incredibly proud of the play of his teammates as well. At this point last season, Tijuana was floundering and it appeared as though only a miracle could land them in the postseason. Currently, the Luchadores have the best record in the whole dang shooting match. Skarsgard is also excited about where he's going to be playing football next season. The Orange County Otters have the incredible ability to make it into the playoffs season after season, and if not for the miraculous emergence of the Sabercats, the Otters would be the team to beat this season. As much fun as it is competing for an Ultimini and a Defensive Player of the Year award in the DSFL, Thorian really can't wait to being gearing up in orange next season. Code: 223 words (S12) - PT 4 - Midseason Review - ADwyer87 - 01-06-2019 Its now past mid season, and at the time of this post, Sunnycursed would have been said to have been a very happy camper. Coming into camp as the teams #3 receiver and an unproven rookie, he had muscled his way into a prominent role with the team, and was leading the Otters in receiving yards while being arguably a top 5 receiver in the NSFL. At the time of me writing this, however, the player is not happy with his performance at all. The games he has played since this mid season mark have been rough, and Sunnycursed has dropped to the 3rd best receiver in the team as well as probably not even in the top 10 wide receiver conversation. Partially this can be attributed to the change in play of Gus T. T. Showbiz, but it seems that Sunnycursed has been put back in his place on the depth chart. Overall, as far as rookie seasons go, Sunnycursed is having a good one. But you cant help but see how he has fallen off after the halfway point and be left wanting. There is still time for the young wide receiver to go off and dominate the rest of the way, but he needs to start that right away. (S12) - PT 4 - Midseason Review - Saliva^ - 01-06-2019 GOMHL (S12) - PT 4 - Midseason Review - sarmo - 01-06-2019 shl pt (S12) - PT 4 - Midseason Review - WannabeFinn - 01-06-2019 It has been a bit of a whirlwind of a rookie season for defensive end Grayson Kuusela. At the Season 12 Draft, Kuusela was drafted in the 1st round by the Baltimore Hawks and signed to a 3 year, $2m AAV contract. However, after playing in his NSFL debut, Kuusela was traded to the New Orleans Second Line alongside running back prospect Aksel Danielsson. The Baltimore Hawks were to acquire veteran safety Blackford Oakes in a win-now move. Since the trade, the Hawks have gone 5-4 and sit in 1st place in the relatively weak NSFC. New Orleans has posted a 4-5 record since acquiring Kuusela, lagging behind the 9-1 behemoths in San Jose and Orange County. As a starting defensive lineman for the Second Line, Kuusela has had a rather bland statline. Through 10 games the true rookie has tallied 17 total tackles, 7 tackles for loss, and 1 sack. While his total number of tackles and his lone sack are rather underwhelming, Kuusela leads all rookies in TFL with 7, placing him tied for 4th league-wide in that regard. Going forward, Kuusela should finish the season on a strong note. He's been able to continually develop from a raw true rookie into a serviceable defensive lineman. (S12) - PT 4 - Midseason Review - iseedoug - 01-06-2019 This season has been nothing but surprises for the NSFL. The long-time struggling Sabercats hold the best record in the league at the halfway point, and appear not to be slowing down. This boost has been due to both the huge offseason move for the powerhouse Pennington brothers, as well as a brand news strategic approach, with the consulting of 3-time champion Co-GM of the DSFL’s TIjuana Luchadores, Icy Douglas. An interesting note, is the huge decrease in tackle production from long-time Sabercat Ben Horne. Last season he finished the season with well over 100 tackles, but this year is on pass to finish well under that. This change in production is likely due to the position move by Horne after the Pennington trade. Specifically, Horne has move to playing Defensive End rather than traditional Linebacker as he has in the past. In most formations in the new SJS defensive scheme, there are only 2 score LB with a nickleback, played by veteran Benson. This force been to make the unofficial move to play at the DE this season. When asking Horne about the transition and lack of stats because of it, he said: “It doesn’t concern me, I am here to help this team win ball games, and right now, me playing on the defensive line has helped that.” Interestingly, due to his skills as a LB, Horne leads DEs with pass deflections by a huge margin, bringing a different dimension to the defensive line. Words: 246 (S12) - PT 4 - Midseason Review - Renrut - 01-06-2019 Coming into this season fresh off of a position switch from defensive end to quarterback, Childish Gambino was not sure what his expectations would be...not suck would be one I guess. “It is scary thought when you are switching to a position you have not played before.” Gambino said “You do not want to let your teammates down and be the one that screwed everything up. So far I think we are doing okay. No one ever wants to lose, but it is pretty much inevitable in this league most seasons. Personally, I feel I am doing everything I can out there to help us win games and not be the reason we are losing, but I could always do more. One more completed pass could be the difference between winning and losing these games, so as we move forward I will continue to spend as much time as I can in the film room and really try to make a surge in the playoffs and bring home Baltimore another title.” He concluded. Gambino and Baltimore come into this week with a 6-4 Record, which is currently good enough for the top spot in the conference, and Gambino is currently, statistically, a top 3 quarterback overall. Time will tell if that is how they finish the season.
