RE: (S24) - PT 5 - Trade Ya - slothfacekilla - 09-08-2020 As someone affiliated with Dotts (mostly just consulting and helping when I can, I definitely didn't do any hard work) this is going to come off as a bit defensive, but you have to love users (who's biggest contribution to the community has been complaining) calling Dotts a failure. It is really disheartening to see people ignore all the free time other people devoted to not only making the cards, but building the entire site database/platform (and as far as I know Cal isn't a professional coder). They may not be for everyone, but it really rubs me the wrong way to see the hard work of people shit on in this PT. To actually address the prompt, I'm hoping that we can introduce some new specialty series. I think something for DSFL players would be fun to involve them in the cards and give them more incentives to buy packs rather than waiting for their ISFL card to be made. Maybe something related to the draft directly or something like that. Anything that can get more people interested would definitely be a good thing and I've seen some potential designs that look very promising. I wouldn't mind adding in some real world trading card aspects as well. Some cards could be autographed or would be "short prints" that are numbered. I know some people have discussed doing "patch" cards for players as well that would be neat and imitate real world cards in a way. Hopefully we can just keep it going though, keep making new cards when people get called up or joining a new team and make sure that this stays a part of the community after all the hard work that went into it. I know Cal still is hard at work on the site trying to get bugs fixed or add new features to it, so I hope that the majority positive reaction we have received from the community stays that way. RE: (S24) - PT 5 - Trade Ya - Kotasa - 09-08-2020 Written opinion 2 Personally, I think that Dotts is a great way to take money out of the economy. Three and a half million a week if you want a pack everyday really puts a hit on the bank account and does one of two things for the league. First it pulls a good amount of money out of bank accounts which leads to more content for the league and makes league jobs more desirable. Weather that content is pack reviews or people making podcasts it will bring even more life into the forums which is good for the whole league. The jobs being more desirable is awesome for the league as it will add competition to limited spots or it will mean more people can do things like sim, do updates or audit accounts. Weather it is one of these or both these are both good for the league. In terms of combating minimum contracts I think that a new TPE salary minimum is what would be best to prevent those with one thousand plus TPE taking three million a year forming super teams. You can use the Dotts system to break apart the brackets. Under 250, 250-500, 500-750 and 1000 plus can all have their own categories. I think that it’s important the best players aren’t taking bear minimum deals as it sets a bad example in case a player does want to get paid. If I want to be the highest paid player and I am very active in earning money it is looked at poorly by most of the league because that money could be used towards someone less active which makes less sense to me, if I put in the effort I should be able to ask for proper compensation. I'd start by adding different shiny features to the higher rarities. Add a bit more pomp and circumstance, both to the process of obtaining them and the cards themselves. Get the graphics team on this, maybe? Next step, make the Dotts cards matter as more than just shiny cards. If you pick up a card of a great player, you can then use them in a simulation style event against other Dotts card holders, and create a team of players to play against other teams! Sound good? Well, here's where the next step comes into play: now that you've got people hooked on buying cards, and you've created a way for them to play against other people in this new way, ignore everything else for the rest of time as that will be the way you will get the most money. Don't pay any attention to the sim or its issues, don't try to fix any of the issues, make it so people can no longer create new players unless they are specifically tied to a specific shitty gamemode that takes an hour to finish up tops, ignore all criticism, and focus entirely on adding new flashy effects to the Dotts cards, the game surrounding them, and the vast amounts of money you can make off the mode. Side note, F*** Madden. RE: (S24) - PT 5 - Trade Ya - 3lewsers - 09-08-2020 Dotts is off to a nice start, but there are a number of things I would do to increase it's popularity and uniqueness. The cards should not simply be draft signatures with a new overlay, they should be new images to give them a fresh look. I would also incorporate serial numbers into the rarer cards. For example, gold cards could be serial numbered to 100, and similar for any other short prints included in the Dotts set. Also, I would love to see relic cards added. Jersey swatches, leather swatches, autos and more. It needs to be fun and unique, not stale, which it seems to be right now. Also, every player should have received their first pack free. That would have been a way to get more money into Dotts. People would have been able to see what it was like to open a pack, and enjoy the anticipation of what cards they would be adding to their set. I have no interest in spending cash on these packs at this time, and I do not see being interested in the near future unless things like I stated above change. This comes across as a great concept with mediocre execution. I am sure it took tons of work to complete, but it just falls flat. We need excitement, and these Dotts images (while cool) do not provide any staying power. There is much work needed to be done to get it to where it needs to be, and it's a shame that hasn't met my expectations. I love digital collecting (NFL Blitz, etc) and we just are too far off the mark. I think it was released way too early and with way too much hype, considering the end product. I hope to see it improve, and I rooting for it to be a must-have for every ISFL player. 311 words RE: (S24) - PT 5 - Trade Ya - muse316 - 09-08-2020 Skywalker thumbed his cards eagerly. He had almost the entire set of Hononlulu Hahalua’s cards, and he was trying to find his own card to show off to his friends. “Here it is!” he said. “Look at this card. See how it’s shiny? I even got a special plastic sleeve for it!” His friends looked at it, somewhat unimpressed. “It just says you’re a rookie QB, Luke” said Richard, a fellow card collector. “I mean, it’s shiny and all, but that’s all it says about you.” “Yeah Luke, why isn’t any of your DSLF stuff on here?” asked Chris. Chris wasn’t a collector, and wasn’t even into football, but went and cheered for Luke at every one of his games. “I mean, it’s an ISFL card,” said Luke. “It doesn’t have all of the DSFL stuff.” “But dude, you won the Ultimini!” said Richard. “You won Performance of the Year! Those things are awesome! They should be included on the card!” “I mean, I guess I can mention to the upstairs people,” said Luke. “It would at least be nice to have my DSFL team information and my Ultimini win on the card.” “And your Performance of the Year!” said Chris. “Sure, but I can see if they don’t include that,” said Richard. “There’s only so much space on the card.” “C’mon,” said Chris. “there’s NOTHING on this card but his height and position. Maybe if you’re a rookie you can at least have your DSFL stuff on the card.” “I’ll ask,” said Luke. “In the meantime, let’s go grab lunch. I’m starving.” “Yeah, all right, Ultimini winner,” said Richard. “Let’s go.” (272 words) RE: (S24) - PT 5 - Trade Ya - abh89 - 09-08-2020 The addition of Dotts has proven to be a nice injection of excitement within the league. There are a lot of things to like about the concept and the way it was deployed. One addition that I think I believe would increase the Dotts user base is the addition of limited-release draft day cards. These cards would be special edition cards like those of award winners, but would celebrate players drafted in the first round of the ISFL Draft. It would help include the new generations of the ISFL, without adding the work of creating an entire draft worth of player cards. One complaint I have heard is the abundance of bronze cards that users are getting, and in some cases it seems to be driving them away. I think one way to counter this effect is to create a trade-in type system. For example, if you accumulate 20 bronze cards you can trade them in for another pack. This would hopefully reduce the amount of buyer’s remorse users may be experiencing because they can possibly turn those common bronze cards into a card of greater value in the future. Most importantly though, I want to say that I appreciate the work of the entire Dotts team and look forward to watching Dotts evolve with the league. Code: 217 words RE: (S24) - PT 5 - Trade Ya - r0tzbua - 09-08-2020 I will probably have a hard time writing too much about Dotts since it does not work on Chrome yet and I feel like installing a different browser for one website. But I think I have talked to enough people that actually use it to give my opinion on how it could grow and get better and what could be added content-wise. I think one of the main points of improvement that should be done soon to immensely enhance the quality of life of Dotts (next to browser compatibility for Chrome, because come on, I know I’m salty about that, but it’s Chrome and it’s like the easiest Browser to develop for) is the implementation of trading. When you start to have an easy trade system in there, it all starts to have a lot more appeal for people, because right now it’s a website to look at nice pictures. Which is generally fine, but visually (not the cards themselves, they are gorgeous) and on the technical side I think there is a lot to be improved. And I get it, it’s an early version of the big vision for it, but for it to take off there needs to be constant development to actually incentivize people to spend their hard earned cash on it. Next to trading and duplicates a way would be to gamify the experience more. Give people a reason they want to spend money on it other than to just have the cards. Give them ways to compare themselves to each other, form “bundles” when they have collected all cards of a special series or something. I think Steam Trading Cards are a great way to look at it. Maybe even give them the ability to sell cards on a Market for ISFL cash. Stuff like this could draw people more into Dotts and enhance the experience for everyone. RE: (S24) - PT 5 - Trade Ya - Reno - 09-08-2020 My solution for solving the issue of the people sitting on hoards of money like a dragon is one that will work, albeit at the cost of being extremely controversial. Start taking some money away from the largest back accounts. Plain and simple. Using a real life example it would be similar to how tax brackets work. If you’re a player that’s just struggling to make a decent enough amount of money for weekly training and some low tier equipment, you won’t be taxed at all. You’ll only really start to see money being seriously removed if you’re one of the top, top earners in the league. I’m talking like the 200 million plus gang. Like if you have around 300 million in your account, you’ll pay roughly 15% of that per season until you drop into the next bracket. And at the same time, add another fee on top of it for recreating. One of the benefits of recreating is that you can keep your bank account from player to player. That will remain the same, but albeit there will be another chunk of money removed from the account as you create your new player. What that percentage would be I do not have the answer for yet, but it is in my opinion the best shot at removing large quantities of money from the league economy and placing value on earning more in free agency. (237 Words) RE: (S24) - PT 5 - Trade Ya - Blasoon - 09-08-2020 When it comes to Dotts, I for one think it's a great idea, and I've loved seeing my friends talk about the new cards they have gotten, however I myself have not bought a pack yet; and herein lies my point. I would love to see the awards cards and pro bowl cards also be done for the Developmental Simulation Football League. I believe that if this was implemented it would allow for a greater activity towards Dotts in our minor league. With a focus on pro bowl and award cards, I believe that this would open a window for players still being young enough in their careers to influence more DSFL Dotts activity, whilst being far enough along in their careers that they would have the money to spend on these packs. Systematically, my two big changes to Dotts would be further forum integration, allowing for people to log in with their own account rather than needing to use their google account for it, and then allowing for people to put cards on a bidding block, either through their own league money or through a more intensive, multi card trading process. I believe the former would encourage more people to participate in Dotts as it would allow for a more seamless entry into the trading card system, I believe the latter would help people greatly with duplicates, and increase the worth of rare cards, and allow the league to take in more money through a taxation system, thereby, still continuing its process of taking money out of circulation.
