What do you think of when your hear breakout rookie? Is it Dakota Prescott, O'Dell Beckham? Some big names come to mind from recent years. Let me be the first to tell you about the next man up. His name is Tim Pest and he's been killing it in since most of season one! With almost a full season under his belt, some might argue that he's actually a rookie, but for now it's fair game.

Big Tim Pest anchored the Outlaws front line through the playoffs all the way to the Ultimus last season and you know what? They have faith that he can help them do it again, which is why they spent their third overall pick on him despite not having a single wide receiver on the roster at the time. That's how valuable this guy really is.

Pest has been laying down pancake after pancake so far this preseason, and as we prepare for the regular season to begin soon, Tim's international house of pancakes will be having a blowout sale. It's lucky for stars like Jayce Tuck that they get the opportunity to flourish away from these guys. Blaster Blade, you'd better watch who you're pushing around.

It is tough to judge who will have a breakout season, let alone a breakout season in their rookie year. However, one rookie on the defensive side of the ball has been really impressive this year. Big Bot. He is a huge, 6’6” and 310 pound defensive end and he has shown up to the league and taken it by storm.

When asked about what it means for robots rights, a very controversial subject in the NSFL currently, Big Bot had this to say “Beep boop”.

He is not a very outspoken individual but what he lacks in speaking, he makes up for in tackling. Big Bot is also what we would like to call a “coach's player” he is a hard worker and a very dedicated member of the team.

Bot came into the drafted very underrated being a pick in one of the later rounds to Colorado. However, instead of that being a detriment to the player, he will use that has motivation to be the best he can be. His hard work and dedication to the team first mentality will help lead him to a successful season. However, only time will tell how successful he can be but that will not stop me from naming Big Bot to be the potential breakout player of this draft class.

Amid all the hype and hustle of the NSFL's season 2 draft and pre-season, your mind might be fixated on a rookie like Clegane, Blade, or Cushing. New players have spent training camp and their 4 pre-season games trying to make a name for themselves, while veterans try to stay sharp and butt heads over old feuds and new rivalries. You probably aren't thinking about the guy that had a quiet Season 1 and spent his offseason working harder than anyone to establish himself as a sophomore breakout. On the Otters that's none other than Safety Dominic Verns. Verns didn't turn many heads in the Season 1 draft, falling all the way to the 21st round before he was finally picked. He had a slow start to his career and didn't show a high ceiling in the beginning, especially not in a competitive Otters defense that was strong at CB and weak at Safety, his own position. Since the end of Season 1, however, Verns has brought a renewed effort and made immense improvements. He now factors in as the keystone of the Otters defense, with excellent speed and hands that will allow him to make huge plays against deep passes and in run support. Verns has a way to go before you can pen him in as an elite safety in the league, but with his work ethic and athletic ability he's taking long strides to get there.

The future star of the NSFL. There were a lot of promising players in the S2 draft, and the preseason showcased their abilities on the main stage for all to see. So, one would think there are a lot of options when naming the penultimate star of tomorrow. But they'd be wrong. There's only one option. Only one man with the moves like electricity. Smooth as butter. Quick as can be. Only one man with a name that makes your tongue tingle. Only one god damn man. The truth himself. Darlane. Farlane. That's right, everybody say it with me now. Dar-lane. Far-lane. DAR-LANE. FAR-LANE. I CAN'T HEAR YOU, DARRR-LAAANEEE. FAAARR-LAAANE.

He's like the beasts from mythology. Like the stories told of legends. He cannot be mimicked, he cannot be beaten. He dominated the preseason with 409 rushing yards. AS A ROOKIE. He even tacked on an 80 yard punt return TD for the hell of it. This man cannot be denied. If you slander his name, you will go down on the wrong side of history. No one will stand with you, you will be alone with yourself. And as you turn up to see your surroundings after a gust of wind, you'll see him fly by, as you hear the crowds roar...Darlane...Farlane...

When thinking of breakout players you think of exciting rookies. You know the guys, you want a dynamic wide out, or a speedy back. You want a guy who can make people miss, who can hit the hole hard and who can change the game in the course of the play. The Baltimore Hawks got that exciting young player when Darlane Farlane somehow fell to the Hawks late in the S2 draft at the 36th pick. The kid has it all, blazing speed, solid hands, and most importantly for the sake of excitement, he's an INCREDIBLE returner. Farlane has the ability to make the most exciting play in football a reality week in and week out as a dynamic returner.

After a mediocre debut season for Baltimore many fans were upset and desperate for someone to come in and give them excitement, and Farlane is that guy. Yes the Hawks have drafted a ton of O-Lineman, but that's the vegetables of the team. Its a necessity but no one wants to eat a plate of just veggies. You need something that excites. You've heard the straw that stirs the drink, I like to think Farlane is the drink with the meal. Farlane is the killer milkshake, Farlane is the beer with the burger. Farlane is the guy who can put butts in the seats. And he has the chance to be even better.

Levon Novel - @andybj

After a very respectable rookie season that saw the young running back amass about 550 yards on the ground and tied for the league lead in touchdowns you might think we would be talking about the next great tailback. That was before the Yellowstone Wraiths made a trade for the promising player and converted him to defence. The GM saw something in Levon and thought he might have the ability to be a defensive back and boy let me tell you that he was right! It was thought that he might be lining up opposite of rookie Marcus Kane as a safety but at 6'1" he has the size to cover some of the big wide outs while still being fast enough to cover the jitterbugs. As a playmaker on offence he was expected to run for key first downs and punch in touchdowns but on defence we expect him to come away with game saving interceptions and time pass defences. Wraiths QB Chris Orosz was quoted as saying:

"I don't know if I underestimate him because he wasn't drafted as a corner or what but I find he picks me off at least once a practice and the last few times I've been doing my best to not throw his way. He has a nose for picks and qbs better watch out."

Novel has the potential to be the best shutdown DB in the league starting now!

I think Ryan Flock is going to be a breakout star this season because he has been training very hard. So far, there have been no breakout safeties. I think that Flock has the attitude and determination to become a breakout player for us. He works hard all of the time and is a great team player. He does whatever he needs to for our team to have a chance to win, and this season I think what we need is for him to just be a star, especially with Mayron moving to the offensive side of the ball. Ryan is an athlete and he will no doubt showcase that, but we need him to just be slightly more productive, especially with expansion hitting us hard. I think that with a less experienced linebacker in Luechly, Flock will have more chances to make plays on the ball, and our defensive line is weaker. I think that with these new opportunities he will live up to the billing and be a fantastic safety for us. I think he and Allen Davis will compliment each other well, leading him to being able to play to the fullest of his ability. He will be a turnover machine.
