RE: (S27) PT5 - Highlight Reel - EricNCSU - 03-03-2021 I've only played two games so far as an undrafted free agent, so I don't have a lot of highlight reel material, but it's been a pretty interesting two games. Busted out of the gate in the first game with 5 tackles, tied for second highest on the team. My first tackle ever was on a 1st and 5 and I stopped the runner after only a 1 yard gain. Code: 8:41 1st and 5 DAL - 29 Rush by Roman, R. for 1 yds. Tackle by Squanch, S.. Code: 2:05 1st and 10 POR - 43 Pass by James III, L. to McGrady, Q. falls incomplete. Code: 7:35 2nd and 10 DAL - 42 Pass by Abed (R), T., complete to Quick (R), L. for 19 yds. Tackle by Squanch (R), S.. Code: 8:50 3rd and 5 KCC - 9 Rush by Creed, X. for 1 yds. Tackle by Squanch, S.. In the first game, I had one penalty for jumping offsides. In the second game I stayed clean and didn't have any penalties. While that won't show up on the tape, it shows up in the box score and I'm sure the coaches and scouts will notice it. Hopefully in the upcoming playoffs I can put a few more highlights on tape ahead of the DSFL Draft. Spence started showing what he could do in the 4th quarter with a tough 8 yard catch for a first down to move the chains, as Portland started driving down 33-21 in the 4th quarter. Spence then broke the game wide open by catching a short pass, throwing off the man covering him, and galloping for 68 yards before being hauled down at the 1 yard line. Remus Roman finished it off with a 1 yard TD run, and then, after a pick-six by Evan Jones gave Portland the lead, Spence sealed it by catching another short pass and blowing straight past his man for a 59 yard touchdown to put Portland up 41-33. Overall, a tremendous debut showing from Spence, as he only caught three passes but all of them were in the 4th quarter and were important for Portland's success in their season opener. Another candidate for a Spence highlight was catching 6 passes for 124 yards and the first 2 touchdowns of the 30-17 win against the Norfolk Seawolves. Spence's early production got Portland off on the front foot early, and gave them a key bounce back win after a comedy of errors loss to the London Royals the week before put them 3-1. Honestly though, the whole season has been a highlight so far for Spence, who ultimately caught 80 passes for 1241 yards and 6 touchdowns, and is on a winning team that went 11-3 and are a good bet to win an Ultimini Championship this season, after falling traumatically short in the title game last year to Bondi Beach. Write about your favorite highlights from the season so far. Did you or your teammate have a particularly great game? What happened that made it worthy of a highlight reel? I was really impressed by our team performance in week 2 vs. Arizona. This was early in the season and so even though the Outlaws ended up much better than us at 11-5 overall, it looked much closer at the time as a matchup between two 0-1 teams. The team executed really well overall, despite some lackluster stats. We were 6 of 13 on 3rd downs on offense despite rushing for less than 3 yards per carry. Our rookie QB Daytona had arguably his best game of the season with 359 passing yards, counterbalanced by a sub-60% 26/45 completion percentage. Nearly all the defense contributed in a significant way, highlighted by Crooks' interception and 2 pass deflections and Thomaslacher's 2 sacks. We managed to hold Arizona to 1/9 on 3rd downs and 0/2 for 4th down attempts even though they led in time of possession and Cortez had a higher rating and much higher 71.4% completion percentage. So while this game didn't feature a single player taking over the whole game for us and delivering the win via sheer willpower or anything like that, I think it was a really complete game across the whole team, one that showed what we could be capable of when everything was working. Unfortunately, the rest of the season didn't stick quite keep up that rate of performance and we never got over .500 for the season, finishing last in the conference.
