RE: (S30) Ultimus Week - Mavfatha - 08-27-2021 PBE PT 24. If you could create a team using any active players in the league, what would that team look like? Would you build a group of all-stars to contend in the next Ultimus, or a team full of jokesters for the fun of it? Describe the roster and why you chose the players you did. I'll be making a team of all offensive linemen who will take no crap from anyone and just bully around the rest of the league. I've done this in the past I believe but a lot of the names at the top of this group at least have changed since then so I think it will be interesting again still. The face of our team at QB will be the highest TPE lineman around, Mr. Bob Roberts. With his athletic build as well at least relative to the the rest of us he should be able to make some plays as a single-threat QB. Joining him in the backfield will be a couple more athletic OL and legends of the position in Bruce Buckley and Matt Krause playing some combination of FB/RB. No WR's for us, instead going with Adam Mellott and Jaja Ding Dong as dual TE's. The actual OL will then be all Maulers, with myself, Marlon Alexander, Connor Quigley, Ananda Adyan, and Bob Bob making up the first unit. On defense, we'll go with Gluteus Maximus and then myself playing 2-way at DT, Julio and Stumpy Jones at DE, Cade Williams at ILB, Marc Hamel and Mo Magic at OLB, Felix Archstone and Alexander Franklin trying to keep up with receivers while playing CB, and Manhattan Project and Brent Silva as the best remaining options who will bounce between giving us 6 linemen to blitz with or staying deep as safeties as the situation demands. RE: (S30) Ultimus Week - xenosthelegend - 08-27-2021 6. Write 800 words or more on something about anything in the league that interests you. It could be related to statistics, a league issue that you take seriously, or a niche part of history that doesn’t fit neatly into either of the above categories. This must be directly related to the league, so don’t wax 800 words about your team’s participation on a Werewolf server or something. The Minnesota Grey Ducks have a record of 13-1 this season in the DSFL. On their way to that record they put up a total of 436 points. Some of the victories were not very close, but there are enough games where the score is very close to where I want to run an experiment. Kicking is a very important part of a team, generally the kicker will have the most points scored on a team. What if that kicker can barely kick? RNG was not merciful to this experiment, it chose 5% for each kick to go through. Our test subject, or at this point, victim, is Levy Tate, kicker of the Minnesota Grey Ducks. This should be the worst kicking season ever. For each kick I will roll a number on google's random number generator from 1-100, if the number is 1-5, the kick is good, if not, he misses it. Now to tear apart a season. The first game of the season for the Minnesota Grey Ducks was against the Kansas City Coyotes where they won 20-17. In the first quarter Tate lined up for a field goal attempt where his kick went through the uprights, in this dimension however, his kick was not good, and missed. Later in the first quarter Minnesota scored a touchdown. Tate's extra point attempt missed. In the second quarter there was another extra point opportunity for Tate. He missed again. In the third quarter Tate walked on to the field to attempt a 30 yard field goal. RNG was merciful, and his kick was good. But the damage is already done, Minnesota has now lost their first game of the season 15-17. Week 2 was a different story for Minnesota as they blew out the London Royals 38-10. The outcome of the game does not change, but the score does. Tate missed all of his kicks this game, and Minnesota wins by a score of 30-10. Week 3 was a close game where Minnesota won 24-20. In this kicker hell, you are going to need every point you can get. Tate's first field goal attempt was no good, taking 3 points off the board for Minnesota. Tate's first extra point attempt of the game was no good, taking another point off the board for Minnesota. Tate's next 2 extra points missed as well. Minnesota loses this game by a score of 18-20, and falls to 1-2 this season when they were 3-0 at this point. In week 4 we encounter another game that Minnesota can't lose, but one where it can look a lot closer. Tate once again misses every single kick, and Minnesota wins by a score of 32-28 instead of 43-28. Week 5 is the same scenario as the previous week. Minnesota wins by 4 points over the Luchadores instead of 14. Week 6 is yet another repeat of the scenario. Minnesota wins by 8 points less than they would have if their kicker could kick. In week 7 Minnesota had their one loss of the season, a 34-48 defeat at the hands of the Seawolves. RNG is merciful for Tate's first kick of the game, keeping the score intact for now. Tate misses his next field goal, and extra point attempt. But his fourth kick of the game, an extra point attempt, is good. Minnesota loses 26-48 as they now have a 4-3 record. In week 8, Minnesota had another close game with Kansas City. Tate misses every kick, and Minnesota loses the game, 18-24. In week 9 Minnesota had the exact same score they had back in week 2 against London, in both scenarios. Minnesota wins 30-10. Week 10 was a close, defensive struggle for Minnesota against Portland. Now instead of winning this game, Minnesota falls to 5-5 as they lose 6-10. Week 11 had yet another close game, this time a 28-25 victory against Dallas. But in this hell, something different happens. Tate misses his first three extra point attempts, but makes his fourth. Resulting in a score of 25-25 as the clock hits 0:00 in the fourth quarter. Pickerwheel determined that the game ends in a draw, so Minnesota's record is now 5-5-1. In week 12, Minnesota matched up against the Tijuana Luchadores. Tate again missed every single one of his kicks, and Minnesota loses 19-21. In week 13, Minnesota has missed every one of their kicks going into the fourth quarter. But RNG has another idea, instead of missing a 29 yard field goal attempt, Tate's kick is good, and it is enough to hold off Bondi Beach, as Minnesota wins 22-21. For the final game of the season for Minnesota, they won 48-24, but after Tate was cursed, they win 36-24. Minnesota's final record is 8-7-1, in this scenario, they miss the playoffs. With a kicker who can't kick, Minnesota goes from an incredibly dominant team, to one that misses the playoffs entirely. Describe your player and/or team’s journey through this latest season. What were the highlights? What were the lower points? What might you have done differently? What are your expectations for next season? Well, I think we can safely say we exceeded much of the league's expectations they had for us. We won 6 games and I think the O/U was 3.5. I mean, we beat Sarasota in the preseason so we should be hoisting that trophy with them. We beat a really good Austin team pretty convincingly on the road, and that was by far our best win of the season. Then, when you look at how we performed against teams in similar situations, being a few seasons into a rebuild, we did fairly well. We lost to Baltimore and New Orleans in our first two meetings against similar teams, which was tough, but then we rebounded nicely with that Austin win and a win against San Jose. Chicago, Philly, New Orleans (got em back), and San Jose again were all wins, so we effectively went 5-2 against teams in similar situations. We gave up a lot of points which isn't good, but I think overall Honolulu is on the rise and we should improve upon that mark. Our offense has an incredible young core that is starting to get into their prime. Joliet Chris JR, EKW, Sal Ami, and Cobra Kai and we have studs at every skill position. Defensively, we're built on seasoned vets but have incredible rising stars that will surely carry on after the vets move on. I think we're poised for a bright future. Speaking on what we could have done differently, I think football is absolutely a game of opportunity and I think we could have seized the opportunities better. If we break down each coin flip and missed opportunity we'd probably be a playoff team. We lost to Orange County in Week 12 29-28. If we do better in any aspect of the game we likely win and suddenly the gap between OCO and HON shrinks to 2 games. I still believe we're a better team that Baltimore and should have won that game. First game jitters? I don't know, but that's a missed opportunity and if we win that game we're now 1 game behind OCO. Week 14 was another 1 point loss to New York. We win that and now we're tied and tiebreakers come into play. We lost by 2 scores to NOLA in week 3, but I think we're probably a better team than them as well. If we win that game then we're absolutely locked in to a playoff game with a 10-6 record compared to 6-10. Win the games you're supposed to win and you're right there with continued improvement. (Can be completed after the Ultimus game) It can't be anyone other than Mike Boss Jr. He was on fire, going 20/30 for 254 yards and 3 TDs. Zero interceptions was the key factor as keeping it away from a dangerous Arizona offense was very important. Mike Boss, like a boss, wore a flamboyant outfit and massive chains with his Ultimus MVP Trophy on full display. He wasn't out to ride the rides, he was out to get attention. He, and most of the other Sailfish players, strutted through the park giving high fives to anyone with a hand. They'd stop and take pictures with everyone and Mike was throwing his MVP Trophy to fans on rides and across the shops. Mike hosted a pop up event that everyone was calling "How To Be A Boss" and he would teach everyone how to add a little bit more swag to themselves. It was basically a catwalk down main street as they walked like models in Mike's chains. The team took a crowd vote as to who added the most swag and the winner got to keep one of Mike's massive chains. As the team began to leave the park Mike called all the Disneyland workers over and gave each of them $500 cash as an appreciation for having the team and putting up with their crazy antics at the park. Are they a great locker room presence who encourages others? Do they play an important but unappreciated role on the team which doesn't receive much recognition for awards? Graphic Option: Create a graphic of your player with your teammate who exhibits a team-friendly attitude. In my opinion, rookie, Sal Ami, was the ultimate team player for Honolulu this season. As a tight end on a team with two good receiving options and a great running back it was no question Sal Ami was likely going to be the third option in the passing game and fourth option of the overall offense. He was also often given tough blocking assignments in all different situations. Even still Sal approached practices and games with incredible energy and a positive attitude. He is viewed as a leader in the locker room and on the field with the same positivity previously mentioned. It didn't take much time for him to warm up to the team and to be a commonly heard voice in the locker room. Late in the season he approached the front office expressing his willingness to be as flexible for the team as possible. Sal is a natural athlete that could really slot in to any position with both his size and speed, so that allows management to take advantage of every opportunity knowing there is a fall back plan with Sal Ami being the ultimate player for the Hahalua. For a rookie to step up in this leadership role says something special about this player and he'll continue to be special throughout his career. Zephyr GreyWolf has only recently discovered Football. Growing up as a wolf in the Canadian wilderness there weren’t any sports and only a few games. Games like chase, chew, eat. Life was good but Zephyr always knew there was more out there. Then one day he was “adopted” and move to the city of Vancouver. His new human taught him all about sports. Sports like hockey, basketball, soccer, and of course football. In order to learn about these sport Zephyr would watch the nature documentary series Air Bud. These movies explored the totally real experiences of a dog that played various sports. Zephyr’s favorite was Air Bud: Golden Receiver based on the dog playing football. Zephyr secretly started putting together pick up games in the woods of Vancouver with other animals. These animals didn’t know the rules of football but Zephyr only knew what rules he saw on the documentary. It was bad practice but good fun. After a few weeks of these pick-up games several of the animal got tired of playing football. Zephyr was bigger and faster than the other animals, so they weren’t having fun anymore. Everything really fell apart when the wide receiver on Zephyr’s team, a deer named scrap, found out Zephyr had eaten his cousin. While Zephyr didn’t know it was his cousin at the time, he did eat him. Many of the prey animals decided to quit the team. Now that he had no team to play with Zephyr knew in order to keep playing football he would need to find a real team. A team where people didn’t care who eats who and nobody counts how many rabbits were there at the beginning of the game verses the end. Zephyr decided it was time to tell his human. He knew it would break the hockey players heart to know Zephyr wanted to play football instead of hockey. Zephyr’s human was sad but encouraging. He even sent Zephyr to a football training camp to learn the real rules of football. Humans have so many rules about where you can bite people and what is considered murder. It was a lot to learn but soon Zephyr was ready to play. He got signed by the Norfolk Seawolves to finish out their season. Zephyr played four games with the Seawolves that season and was pretty happy with the results. Playing with a real team is a lot harder than he thought but he did manage eight tackles in his four games this season. Zephyr only plans to get better as time goes on. 428 words 5 TPE 10/10 Total TPE RE: (S30) Ultimus Week - Sonaclov - 08-28-2021 Code: Tier 2 . 14. Describe your player and/or team’s journey through this latest season. What were the highlights? What were the lower points? What might you have done differently? What are your expectations for next season? ------------------------------------------------------------ Code: Tier 2 : 12. Choose a team or player to write about that isn’t your own. What did they do well in the last season? Have they shown any drastic improvements from previous years? What could they do better? @g2019 this one is for you my friend. You'll need google translate. Only with some fries (you need to be french to understand) RE: (S30) Ultimus Week - Jimi64 - 08-28-2021 Tier 1 6. I’ve talked about this idea multiple times in the past to people personally, and I even got it submitted as a rules proposal through that informal Colorado rules summit, though I honestly forget what that summit was about and what came of it. Anyway, somehow it got voted on, and it was voted down. The rule I am speaking of, which I hope one day is named the “Jimi rule” dictates that the amount of TPE allotted for a fully completed Ultimus Week task be 12 TPE. Now the base logic for this proposal is really quite simple. When you break down Ultimus Week into it’s true nature, you see that it really is four point tasks (PT’s). The point system is based entirely around normal PT’s, with one change. Normally you get 3 TPE for a 200 word PT, but a 200 word Ultimus week task gives you 2.5 TPE. This mean, for an unknown reason, you are punished more for having only been able to complete half of Ultimus week, considering being at the “.5 level” allows your TPE to be rounded up. Indeed you get maximum value for your work at 200 and 600 words in Ultimus week. It’s just a strange system and I’m not sure why the original creators didn’t just realize you should be awarded 12 TPE for it. In fact, I wouldn’t even mind if you were awarded more than 12 TPE for it. Make it 14 or 15. It seems to be the task that provides the most stress for people since so much is asked of you at once. Sure, you have a longer timeframe to do it, but often I find people have more difficulty going tasks that FEEL overwhelming, whether or not they actually are. I could go into a psychological discussion about cognitive diffusion and reducing the real weight of our anxieties, but since it’s not quite relevant, I’ll just emphasize the fact that 800 words simply feels bigger than it really is. Also, let’s be honest, it’s very likely that the vast majority of those that submit fully completed Ultimus Week tasks did the whole thing in one sitting. With this known, why are we giving less TPE for the same work of 4 PT’s? It’s ludicrous, but what’s even more ludicrous is that this was brough to rules voting once before and was VOTED DOWN. Now for someone who is first hearing about this issue I’m randomly passionate about, you’re probably wondering why such a simple and understandable change would be voted down. The answer I got, though I admit I never heard from all or even many of those that voted no, was that the TPE system is built delicately. There needs to be a relationship between TPE earned per season by players, the timing of regression, etc. Essentially, adding more TPE into the mix could upset the balance of these well though out system. To this point, well meaning as it is, I raise my counterpoint. Don’t be ridiculous, we’re talking an extra 2 TPE PER SEASON. This is the equivalent of one extra activity check for a player PER SEASON. It’s not that this TPE is being added randomly and out of nowhere. We’re not talking charity incentive TPE. This is TPE that users work for through their Ultimus Week submissions that is for some reason not being given to them. This is TPE that should already be in the system. I can only assume they thought 10 was a nice, even number, so they just stuck with it. I think the reason I am most interested in seeing this change comes from being a DSFL GM. When you’re a DSFL GM, sometimes you have to really struggle with keeping users from the brink of becoming inactive, and beyond that you also need to prepare all your players to eventually play in the ISFL. This involves helping them to earn as best you can. If you’ve ever had a user who you had to use all your strength to get them to do a point task, try telling them about Ultimus Week and see how it goes. It’s just not worth it to them. Now I’m not saying that upping Ultimus Week by two TPE will suddenly massively increase the percentage of users who complete it, but at least I can explain it to low earning users that it’s at least an efficient use of their time. This is also why I wouldn’t mind it being worth even more than 12 TPE. That way, I could actually explain that for this specific long task they will actually get more than they normally would if they were the typical point tasks. I know that there are people that don’t want earning to be incredibly easy, but I think that increasing the TPE amount for Ultimus Week is worth it for increasing the engagement on such a task. Additionally, it just makes perfect sense. We’re doing 4 PT’s, so give us the TPE for our effort. If this goes to rules voting again, I hope people don’t make the same mistake again. 857 words RE: (S30) Ultimus Week - Philliesphan96 - 08-28-2021 Code: Task 32 - affiliate SHL affiliate Code: Task 22 - Ultimus Half-Time - 239 Words I, Tomage McGullager have been put in charge of the half time entertainment for the ultimus this year. Why they picked a random player from the Austin Copperheads to be in charge of the half time entertainment I do not know, but alas, here I am. There is a very easy thought process that went behind the half time entertainment that I have selected for the ultimus. If you go back to the beginning of true competitive football, high school football, there are a couple different components that go into what makes a high school football game a high school football game. Obvious you need a high school football team, you need some passionate fans which the ultimus will definitely have, you need your cheerleaders which both teams I would imagine will bring the cheerleaders from each of their respective teams, and you have the marching band playing in the stands and serenading the crowd at half time with a a wonderfully put together and mildly complex show that they spent hour upon hours perfecting. Well, the ultimus needs its marching band half time show and not just any marching band will do. This is the pinnacle football performance, so you need the best of the best to play half time. I have arranged a deal with Drum Corps International (Marching Music's Major League) to have their World Class winning corps perform their show at the ultimus's half time. Code: Task 11 - Biggest Rival - 599 words I am here today to talk about the biggest rival that the Austin Copperheads have here in the ISFL. There are three main candidates for this title and I am going to break each one down and explain why I think they are or are not the biggest rival that the Austin Copperheads have. The first team we have to look at is the expansion counterpart to the Austin Copperheads, the Chicago Butchers. The Chicago Butchers and the Austin Copperheads have now been around for over half of the league's existence so both teams have had times of success and times of rebuild. The Austin Copperheads however have found more success that the Chicago Butchers having actually won the ultimus bowl once, unlike the Chicago Butcher who have never won an ultimus bowl. On top of just winning the ultimus bowl, the Austin Copperheads have three different ultimus bowl appearances to the Chicago Butchers' zero ultimus bowl appearances. Looking at a deeper dive at the historical success between the two teams, in the 15 seasons that both teams have been in existence, the Austin Copperheads have had a better record than the Chicago Butchers 9 times, the Chicago Butchers have had a better record than the Austin Copperheads 5 times, and the Austin Copperheads and Chicago Butchers have had the same record once. The Austin Copperheads have had 5 different winning seasons compared to the Chicago Butchers 4 winning seasons. These teams are also in different conferences meaning that they do not play each other every season. While Chicago will always be a top rival for the Copperheads, right now I do not believe that they are the biggest rival for the Copperheads. This brings us to the Arizona Outlaws. Arizona has seen a lot more success than the Copperheads and they have an early league dynasty to thank for that. If you look at just the time that Austin has been in the league, season 16 and on, both the Austin Copperheads and the Arizona Outlaws have both won the ultimus bowl once, though the Austin Copperheads lead the Arizona Outlaws in ultimus bowl appearances three to one. That said, the Outlaws have had the better season record over the Copperheads 9 times to the copperheads 3 times of holding the better record, leaving 3 shared records between the two. This division rival who seems to keep getting the best of the Copperheads is definitely a top rival of the team but I feel this rivalry may be one sided and therefore (among other reasons) is not the top rivalry. This brings us to the New York Silverbacks. The Silverbacks joined the league for season 25 and have, as of last season, tied the copperheads in total ultimus bowl wins. The Austin Copperheads have not had an ultimus bowl victory since the New York Silverbacks joined the league but both teams have had an ultimus bowl appearance. New York's win also ties Austin's record for fastest expansion team to win a championship. In their 6 short seasons, they have bested the Copperheads in their season record 4 of those years and tied them once. Beyond their shared expansion championship record, and being 2 of the 3 teams to win an ultimus bowl that have not been around since season 2. There has been some tension between Austin and New York players. There seems to be that extra motivation to beat New York. Having played for both organizations, I can say both are great places to play, but New York is definitely the biggest rival of the Austin Copperheads. RE: (S30) Ultimus Week - Tesla - 08-28-2021 Tier 3 - Task 15 - 200+ Words - 2.5 TPE Well now this is a bit of an interesting prompt to me, but I will try to break it down into two easily answerable components. First and foremost who was the Ultimus MVP? That would depend, although according to my good friend Sim Rep on offense it was quarterback Mike Boss Jr who went 20 of 30 for 254 yards passing, an average pass attempt of 8.5 yards, 3 touchdowns, no interceptions, and a passer rating of 126.2 good for 45 better than the opposition. Defense it would be linebacker Michael Witheblock with a stat line of 7 tackles, 1 sack, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovery, and 1 pass defended. Given my well known bias towards defense I am going to go with Witheblock here and say that he was the Ultimus MVP. Congratulations Witheblock! Now the second part is much more difficult as I am supposed to give a rundown of their celebratory trip to Disneyland. Problem one I have never been to Disneyland, problem two I was not invited to this trip, and problem three I am not that familiar with Witheblock's personal interests. However this is a prompt that is rather open ended and so I am going to go with the easy option of answering with what I would most want to do. So really brief rundown, but Witheblock went immediately to the teacup ride and proceeded to ride it until the operator had to kick him out to close down for the day. Spinning rides are the superior ones and I believe Witheblock would agree with me there despite having never discussed it with them. Thank you! Thing is we also have to make sure that it does not scare penguins or quails on account of players who are currently on the team. I trust that won't be a problem for you? ???: I feel the need to point out here that I think you have the wrong office. Agent Tesla: Is this not M.C. Escher Architecture the foremost firm for those with non-euclidean needs? ???: No this is M.C. Esquire Architecture the foremost firm for those with musical or noble architectural needs. M.C. Escher Architecture is down the hall up the endless staircase on the left. Agent Tesla: Oh I am so embarrassed. Why did you let me continue when I came in then though? Esquire Representative: When someone comes in talking about building a stadium with ballistae to defend again the coming invasion you have to hear them out. I only started to get the inkling you were looking for something else when you mentioned wanting a portal to Facinaturu. Agent Tesla: Well thank you for your time! If I have any need of additional architectural help I will be sure to give you a call! Esquire Representative: Thank you for the fun meeting! The award in question will be DSFL OPOY and the player in question will be offensive tackle Clifford Wilson of the Norfolk Seawolves. The record for offensive line pancakes at the DSFL level has changed hands several times with 53 pancakes and 4 sacks allowed by guard A Charles of the Norfolk Seawolves back in S3, 56 pancakes and 3 sacks allowed by tackle D Robicheaux of San Antonio, and then the big jump to 67 by tackle J Covert of the Palm Beach Solar Bears back in S5. That record stood until S24 when tackle Clay Stallworth of the Kansas City Coyotes broke it with a 71 pancake 2 sacks allowed performance. Stallworth's record stood until S28 when tackle Keane Lover of the London Royals had an amazing 73 pancake 0 sacks allowed season to break it. It would stand for a human and for a 0 sacks allowed, but a bot named Mar Lee of the Dallas Birddogs had 74 pancakes with 2 sacks allowed in S29 to set a new pancake record. This latest season though saw Clifford Wilson shatter the record with 99 pancakes and 0 sacks allowed. Now that is a jump of 33.7% compared to the most pancakes, or 35.6% compared to the next best 0 sack allowed season. Meanwhile Ricky Stanzi set the record for passing yards this season breaking the previous record of 4103 with a 4513 performance good for a 9.9% increase. By comparison if Clifford's performance in pancakes were translated it would have been equivalent to a 5485 yard, or 5563 yard season depending on which of the above stats you want to use to compare it. Stanzi had a superb season to be sure, and MVP could be fair given his team made the playoffs and I know there are people who have a hang up on that award requiring team success. Wilson however deserves to be Offensive Player of the Year on account of having so completely shattered the previous pancake record all without allowing a single sack. Code: Word Count: 351 Tier 3 - Task 29 - 200+ Words - 2.5 TPE Interestingly enough I actually had plans to write up a proposal to help simplify the awards process for this off-season, however I took ill around the time I intended to message the Awards Head about it. Not a fan of proposing a plan to bolster another department without said department being on board so no go this time around. The core of the idea though came from a discussion with Modern_Duke who gets a shout out for having the superb idea in the first place. The idea being to remove people who do not necessarily want to be involved in the process and make it so that awards reps are people who have a deeper interest and understanding of stats. I know some people complained about a particular vote last season, however I am also keenly aware that some of the people who vote do not have an in depth interest in football stats. Not everyone can jump into a debate on why Walter Payton was a better running back than Marshall Faulk with confidence, and to judge them on that when it is not the reason they signed up for the job that gave them voting powers is not fair in my opinion. Instead give the Awards Committee the power to vote as they are the ones involved in discussing who deserves to be on the ballot for hours on end, and thus should be better informed. The second part of it though is Modern_Duke's part and the genius of it in my book. Which is give every rep the opportunity for one soap box moment per award to tell you why X player should win it. Once everyone has had the opportunity to use the soapbox you move onto a simple vote to narrow it down to 5, and then ranked choice voting of the last 5 to determine the winner. Additionally I would also suggest having the Committee keep pins in the discussion channels of each award on what the record is for each position. What is the tackle record for a safety, the defensive touchdown record for a defensive tackle, the safety record for a defensive end, et cetera. That way we do not run into issues we have had in the past of record breakers not even making the ballot for one reason or another, or that if they do it will only be as an informed decision as maybe they broke the tackle record by 1 while not having a single other stat of note.
