(S3) - Weekend PT #2 - What's in a name? - Anti-Hype - 09-17-2017 [div align=\\\"center\\\"]Sinjin Flimjollywop. Just say it out loud at least once.....Feels good yeah? Now say it again BUT, in the accent you would expect Sinjin to speak with. Even better right? If you did the accent the first time then we would make good friends. My point here is my goodness what a name. It has a very rural or even tribal feel to it but at the same time there's that aftertone of class...Also it partially rhymes with Mollywop which is a great song by Earl Sweatshirt. There are a lot of boring names in this league like " Henry Rivere" or some shit. We don't need fore father ass names like that. They aren't going to lead no damn teams no where. We need guys with STRONG names. With little meaning and, and seemingly conflicting when it comes to the culture or orgin or whatever. Reginald Hamphshireton is a good name too. Very strong and robust and a super british industrial period type way. If I didn't know he was in the NSFL I would assume he owns oil rigs and what not all through out the world. Maybe he does? I dont know. Someone should ask. Not me.[/div] (S3) - Weekend PT #2 - What's in a name? - Saliva^ - 09-17-2017 There are a couple of names I finds sort of laughable. First of all, DAAD always was creating players with the boring ass names, like Parechkin, Boychuk, e.t.c. But then Scrub Kyubee? That's a hilarious name, if you ask me. Especially after the S2 finals, when he was a scrub against the Outlaws team. So he's definitely living up to his name, he tends to be a scrub sometimes. Then we have Iyah Blewitt. Uhmm...a genius name for the kicker. I already imagine how he's going to screw the Sabercats up with his ''blewitt'' kick. So the San Jose management should be beware of him, he can blew it. Vikian Marmeladov? LMAO. It's not like I created the ''Lady Marmelade'' for no reasons. a Marmelade...he's so sweet and he ain't tough, that's why he spent in a non playoff team last season. Sweety ass flop. Archetype Smarchetype...who? that's like Clee Smarchdrool, a creepy ass name. But that name makes him popular as the half of members here named this name as the most funny from them all, so I won't complain much. There are more goofy names, but I'll hit the 200 word mark, so I'm done. Oh, and the Sinjin Flimjollywop name is weird as well. A Filipino wannabee lmao. Former Otter Offensive Lineman, Shjom Finkelarkin. I don't even know if I spelled that right. Like what nationality is that supposed to be? How do you say that crap? Shjom. Those letters in that order do not register in my brain as a word. I've tried. Shajom? Shejom? Shhhh-jom? I don't know. And then you got that last name. Finkenlarkin. What is that? How does someone settle upon that name for their player? It sounds like an 80s buddy cop duo. The adventures of Fink n' Larkin! Tune in as wise crackin' Fink makes his partner and straight laced cop Larkin's job a living misery. That actually sounds a lot better than this last name monstrosity. The M in Shjom is a typo that never got fixed. He was always supposed to be Shjon, which is pronounced like Shawn or Sean. It's after an old NHL player Shjon Podein. I always thought it looked like a very Nordic way to spell Sean. Finkenlarkin is actually exactly what you said it was though, two guys I know go by their last names and they are always together so people would always say "Fink and Larkin". One day someone said Finkenlarkin sounded like a Swedish last name so I created the most Swedish sounding non-Swedish name ever: Shjon Finkenlarkin. One that has gotten me every time since I originally joined the league, is Darlane Farlane, HB Baltimore Hawks. Not only is Farlane a stud, but the fact that he has a hilarious name makes it that much more of comic gold. Someone can correct me if i’m wrong but I believe his name is a reference to something, because it sounds super familiar. Either way it is a great quality name and whenever I see names such as Darlane’s it makes me regret that I did not take the funny route with my players name. I look forward to see how Darlane continues to progress because with a name like that it would be hard to forget how great of a player he is if he continues on the path he is on. I interpret the moral of Darlane’s story to be this: all names lives matter. Even if you have a name that sounds like a joke, doesn’t mean you’re performance on the field will reflect in that sense. In conclusion, I can now confirm Darlane Farlane is not coming from any television series it just comes from the sheer creativity of the legend himself: Gwdaja. (Don’t even get me started on his username). (225 words) (S3) - Weekend PT #2 - What's in a name? - adamantium - 09-17-2017 Pat Pancake. With a name like that in a league like this, you can expect to go places. First off, the last name "Pancake" is so appropriate. Obviously a lineman wants to deliver those sweet, sweet pancakes and you can expect the Pancake man to deliver them with force and style, laying out everybody in front of him with ease. Second, come on, you can't tell you see the name Pancake and don't get happy almost immediately. Maybe you're a waffle person, I get that, no big deal, but for the rest of us? Pancake conjures up these great memories of eating breakfast with loved ones, a fluffy little disc of goodness on the plate. But most importantly, Pat Pancake reminds us that these sorts of things don't need to be taken so seriously. As someone with a name that's a bit bland and boring, names like Pat Pancake serve as a reminder that, at the end of the day, this is a sim league where we're all looking to enjoy ourselves (usually through winning). And what better way to enjoy ourselves than have a hearty chuckle at a silly name? I can sure as shit say that I'm looking forward to seeing the future of Pat Pancake and others like him. As a gay man, loving musical theater is one stereotype I haven’t been able to buck, so any name that gets me thinking about The Music Man or Avenue Q is one I like. But it’s also just clever in the same way Deion ‘Prime Time’ Sanders’s nickname is clever. The idea behind the name is that when Erasmo gets on the field, his play is so impressive, that it’s like he’s putting on a show, a performance. Like Broadway! I love it. And as anyone who’s watched a Hawks game can tell you, he’s one of the biggest stars of the show. Thanks, man! Some names simply annoy me, but there is one that I have come to like...a lot. And that is Stormblessed. He is a much talked about receiver and I happily took one million dollars from him when he dared bet me he would have more receiving yards last season. Also, since his name is just "Stormblessed", the sim engine, Draft Day Pro Football 2016 denies it, and gives him a first name. Humorously enough, his name is "None". None Stormblessed may not be the best on the field anymore, like he was with the Season 1 Arizona Outlaws, but he still has one of the best names in the game. I am not sure where he got this name, but it sure sounds like it was inspired by something Game of Thrones-esque. Which is cool enough by itself, even if its not actually inspired by it. Honorable mention for this task goes to the SaberCats defensive tackle Calkewlated Chambers III. Not only is he the third, but he successfully tricked like the entire league into thinking his name was "cakewalked", and not pronounced "calculated". It's certainly a weird one, but at least it's mildly entertaining. Plus, Chambers is a perfectly normal last name. |
