Slim Shady knows a lot of this season is riding on him with a first season QB and not much else on offense. He's prepared for this season by improving his strength and endurance so that he can withstand the rigors of being pounded into the ground day in and day out. This season he expects to be even better than his breakout season last year. Hopefully he can accomplish this after working hard in the off-season and hopefully he has the opportunity to win his first RBOTY title as a member of the Outlaws and continue the Mackworthy legacy

Ryan Applehort is working with a special quarterback trainer named Foe Jlacco. Ryan Applehort, having missed the pro bowl for two seasons in a row now, was looking at ways to get back in that elite top tier status. So he gave his man Foe a call, to see what he could do. They worked on a lot of drills, including getting taller, checking it down more often, and inexplicably being a dick to the newly drafted, young, developing rookie quarterback behind him. Surely this extra time spent will help Applehort get back to his early career form, but time will tell whether the changes worked.

Zach Skinner, who is beginning to enter the back end of his career after coming off a personal record of eleven sacks in a season, is just trying to maintain his current level. Unfortunately, as easy as it sounds, that is hard to do. Especially with a wife and two children, one of them newborn, as he begins to consider his own retirement from football.

That being said, he feels as strong and fast as ever, and is beginning to incorporate more and more cardiovascular work, as he feels that, while his muscle mass seems to not be affected much by age, he can not run or play for as long as he used to while going full speed. This includes agility work, sprints, and other excercise being added on to what he is already doing after his first ever pro bowl nod. But his biggest change in routine is coming with working with martial arts trainers to speed up his hands. After all, as the old saying goes: if you beat the hands, you beat the man.

Thorian Skarsgard is one of the hardest working players in all of the NSFL. He doesn't take a lot of time to relax or go on an expensive vacation. He is always working on perfecting his craft: the art of getting to the quarterback. After totaling seven sacks in his first season playing for the Orange County Otters and another two during the team's run to win the Ultimus trophy, Skarsgard sees room for improvement on this front. Nine sacks during the rookie campaign is nice, and was even enough to earn him a trip to his first Pro Bowl, but he knows he can get to double digit sacks next season.

Michael Rood has been spending extra time in the Palm Beach weight room, doing everything he can to up his strength. He's committed to helping make the Solar Bears the best they can be, and he knows he will need to become more than just a receiving threat - he will need to become a strong blocker as well.

Rood has always been a decent blocker, but he knows the DSFL defenses will be on another level. He explained:

"Playing in the Prospect Bowl made me realize how big the gap is between guys like Rock Hardshaft and the guys I was playing against back at Minnesota. Rock is so much bigger, faster, and stronger - and I know he's one of the best LBs in the DSFL but I have to be ready to take on other guys just like him if I want to be successful. God, I am so lucky he's on my team... [laughs]."

Rood turned back to the squat rack, and politely asked the reporters if he could return to his workout.

"I have a lot of work to do - thanks for the time and go Solar Bears!"

For Joliet L. Christ it is all about getting in the gym early, leaving late and preparing not only physically, but mentally as well. After 2 seasons where SJS has been in the playoffs and been knocked out in the ASFC championship game, it is time for things to change in San Jose. The team in Northern California is not playing around anymore and that starts with the quarterback position. There is not much that a player can do to prevent disappointing losses, but Christ is hungry to get back on the field with his teammates and dominate. With an improved Christ, the Sabercats should be the favorites again, and look to turn that potential into an Ultimus championship.

Axel Hornbacher spent the off season preparing for S14 by training extra hard in Colorado. Instead of going to a destination to work out or find special trainers, Axel opted to work out within Denver and stay close to home so he could get optimal rest. His training was focused on getting his physical attributes up and focusing on agility and speed in the off season. To achieve this, he primarily used conditioning workouts to increase his endurance and agility by working out in the high elevation mountains of Colorado. These workouts helped increase his lung capacity and stamina to help him get ready for the new season.

Last season was a mixed bag for Johnny Snuggles. While he saw mild personal success and was awarded the Defensive Rookie of the Year Award, he did not get nominated to the NSFC Pro Bowl roster, and his beloved Yellowknife Wraiths finished dead last in the league with a meager 4 wins. To top it off, the Wraiths finished dead last in points allowed and 6th in total yards allowed. Because of this, Snuggles has committed himself to vastly improving his relatively marginal footwork. It may not be flashy, and it may not make a huge difference in his personal stat columns as QBs won’t be throwing his way as often, but it will help the team, and at this point, that’s what truly matters. Getting the Wraiths back into the playoffs.

What is Nick Snider doing to prepare for the pre-season? The same thing everyone should be doing; busting their butt at practice and learning their playbook. It's easy when you have a team full of rookies to study together and workout. The entire Norfolk locker room are all in the dorms for training camp and having a great time getting to know one another, bouncing ideas off each other and meshing as a team. Physically, Snider is working on his strength. Norfolk has a couple of very good line backers that he will need to be able to defeat double teams for, in order to keep them clean. Him and some of the other defensive linemen have been spotted doing extra non-mandatory workouts in the team gym in order to ensure they are physically prepared to battle in the trenches. Reports from camp have also seen him entering the facility late at night carrying a case of beer. Perhaps some drinks for him and the team while they study film together.
