I'm excited for the Yeti this season. The defensive core is still intact and only got better with the addition of another young talented player to that side of the ball in Thumper. The Yeti offense is what I'm really looking forward to though. McDummy is only getting better and will have the chance to produce for this team especially with the veteran pass catcher in Bishop as well as plenty of young weapons like Laszlo-42 and Palmer. With this improved offense and solid defense many of the close losses that the Yeti have had in the previous years could go the other way in favor of the Yeti. The Yeti might not be ready to make a run for the championship yet but it's hard to imagine that they stay as bad as they have been for the past couple of seasons. I predict that the Yeti will win at least 3 games this year which isn't saying much but it's improvement that could bode well for the future as our young players (Who are the vast majority of the team at this point) will continue to improve. With a team that has been at the bottom of the standings so long, a young and up trending team is reason to be excited for this upcoming season.

Well, well, well its the start of another season and I can't deny that it is starting to feel like routine around here. That's not a bad thing by any means. I'm not easy psyched out by an early loss to the reigning champions in the Arizona Outlaws--I've seen it before and I know how long the season is (although admittedly, it did get a little shorter last season). Fact is, I know the talent that we have on our team, and I'm not going to let the fact that we played 3 week 1 games back to back to back--and still come out with an L, get me down. As a player for the Baltimore Hawks, the beginning of the season does have a strange energy though. Because, if for nothing else, we are known for having really bad luck when it comes to game time. This doesn't just include having our Right Tackle line up as our starting running back for a game, but it often leads us to losing games that we absolutely should have won. It's why it took us 10 seasons to get our first title, and I'd like to think that that kind of broke the seal for us, but last season was another example of the bad luck in full force. All that being said, in Baltimore the beginning of the season is always a time to prove that we do have what it takes, and we won't let bad luck get in our way. And so we forge ahead.

Opening day for the National Simulation Football League's seventeenth season has arrived, and Arizona Outlaw Jammerson Irving is preparing for his third season. Irving has fully established himself in the league, as he lead the Outlaws in receptions last season as they defeated all challengers and won the Ultimus. Cemented his status as one of the top tight ends in the league, Jammerson enters this year with much more confidence both in his individual talent and the talent of his teammates on the Outlaws.

Starting a new tradition, Jammerson begins this opening week with a giant party at his Phoenix home. The event is fully catered, heavily promoted, and features a full sized stage build specifically for Irbing backyard with a line up of local and national reggae and hip hop artists. After a long night of partying, and a terrible day at practice the following day, Jammerson relaxes with his favorite strains of marijuana, meditates, and focus on cutting out all distractions and focusing on his upcoming season. He has successfully put his off the field problems behind him and credits that to his much more focused in-season regimen.

Jammerson and the Arizona Outlaws have one goal in mind for this season, defending their title as Ultimus Champions. That task seems much more realistic on season 17's opening day than it did a year ago, so there is much optimism and the season begins.

What excites me about a new season?! Really? Bro! Football is back! The withdrawal feeling I get is ridiculous! The summer is just boring without football. 16 weeks of play, condensed in 5 weeks, if you go all the way up to the Ultimus or 20 if we talk about the Superbowl. The NSFL break is like one month, but it is still ridiculous! And don't get me started on the NSFL 6 month break! BUT! Football is back! All the top players to fight it out Sunday after Sunday, till we get to the Superbowl. Gatherings with friends, beer, steaks, and football. A man's paradise. But really, what makes me excited as a NSFL player at the beginning of each season is the anticipation that built up through the training camp. Especially with the bitter ending of the previous season. You could see the disappointment both in the locker room and in the city of Yellowknife. And for a highly disregarded player, mostly outside the locker room, I have a huge chip on my shoulder, and I want to win. No more sad faces. That's what I love about new seasons. The fact that they are a new beginning, and a reason to make people happy through hard work and dedication. Because they deserve it. Because we deserve it.

The NSFL opener for Season 17 is of particular importance for Franklin Armstrong. After 4 long seasons in the DSFL he is finally making a debut for the Orange County Otters who picked him 28th Overall in the 3rd round of the S15 NSFL contract. They drafted him to be the QB of the future for the historic 5 time champions franchise.

“Obviously I’m very nervous but also very excited. It’s kind of like the jump from highschool to college. This is the best of the best from college football in the NSFL. As you go up the ranks the football talent continues to funnel into the best players available. I am now officially among the best in the country at his position and I’m looking forward to proving that in the coming seasons. I have some very good wide receivers that I’ll be able to play with for a large portion of my career. That includes Hugh Mongo who I’m excited to continue to develop the rapport we shared in our final season in the DSFL. The biggest challenge will probably be trying to adjust to the increase of high level defenses that I’ll have to play against nearly every week. It’ll take an immense amount of concentration, and film study on my part. I look forward to the challenge.”

The two time DSFL MVP looks to make his mark against the Sabercats in his first NSFL game (238 words). OCO

My favorite part about each season is wondering about how the standings are going to look as the season moves on. In a season like this it's so difficult to try and predict who is going to be the best and the worst teams. There is some real talent spread around in the NSFL right now and so many great teams with young active players. I'm also really excited to see what my own team can do. After coming to a 10-4 record last season I think we stand a pretty good chance to go 10-4 or possibly 11-3 again if we can get a little luck. Either way I think the Wraiths have a shoe in to win the NSFC this season and then have a HFA line to the Ultimus. And in the end that's the most exciting part about the beginning of a season, thinking about your teams path to Ultimus success. It's going to be difficult with all the talent out there right now on these different teams but I think we can definitely pull it off thanks to having one of the deepest talent pools on offense right now. While we still haven't fixed a couple of holes on defense having absolutely no holes on offense and a ton of great player depth at multiple key positions means that our playmakers can get involved a ton.

The best thing about a new year is always a new beginning out there on the field. Last season ended with a horrible, disgusting, bitter taste in my mouth. I had to watch a franchise that, quite frankly, should have been contracted after they were exposed for the cheating frauds they are, win my championship. It makes me sick to my stomach that I have not been able to join the conversation of Greatest Otters of All-Time because I have not yet won a championship. That’s what we do here in Orange County, we win. When we don’t win, it makes me angry. When I get angry, opposing defenses have to pay the price. My opening day plans are the same as they were last year, go out there and perform the best I can and prepare myself for a challenge. This opening day is the first step towards our journey for an Ultimus this season, I want to make the most of the time that I have here out on the field. This game breaks you down physically and mentally, and I know that there won’t be much time left for me to make my mark on this league. I can only hope that this team lives up to its potential and becomes something special. [216]

With the start of the new season, my favorite thing has always been thinking about how the team will perform with all the new faces between free agent signings and drafted players. Of course we get some taste of it in the locker room during the off season, so being able to see if we will go in the right direction with the first game is always a positive and exciting thought. Obviously, there's a lot of great expectations for the Outlaws because of what we accomplished last season (Ultimus champions!). It's going to be an interesting season if we can manage to do as well as the last; the ASFC is growing stronger and I’m really looking forward to the games with our greatest rival: the Otters. Plus, Second Line is a young team on the rise, the games between us should be close ones. Nonetheless, being able to play for such a nice organization as the Outlaws makes me feel motivated for the start of the season.

Now as a fan of the NFL, I cannot wait for the opening game after a long time without football. The great thing about it is watching Sunday games with family or friends while enjoying some beers, snacks and a good steak. Also, the start of your fantasy league could be the best thing of the day or your worst nightmare, however it goes is a great experience to see if your draft was as great as you thought.
