S17 ULTIMUS WEEK!!! - SwagSloth - 10-03-2019 Podcast PT Link (Question Timestamps Linked Below) 7) Next year Written: If your team has been eliminated, why will the next year, or the year after that, be the year that your team is going to win the Ultimus or Ultimini. 7:25 – 21:40 (14:15) 1) Playoff Predictions, Reviews: Written: Give a short write up of one or multiple playoff matches. If completed before the airing of the sims have predictions, after if it is a review of the game. 22:10 – 31:25 (9:15) 11) Trades Written: Talk about a player who was traded this past offseason or before the trade deadline and how they will affect the Ultimus, or how they helped their new team in making the playoffs, or cost their old team. 31:30 – 41:40 (10:10) 16) Unsung Hero Written: Who was the unsung hero of the playoffs, convince us. 41:45 – 49:35 (7:50) S17 ULTIMUS WEEK!!! - Rradum - 10-03-2019 8) Draft Focus The San Jose Sabercats have a hefty amount of holes to fill this offseason in the draft. Our old fogeys retired so we've got to replace and retool our squad. Our biggest needs in this draft are essentially everything. We've got to bolster our defense with new playmakers, most importantly in the secondary. Our CBs do their best, but they have low skill and don't really seem to be around anymore. On offense, we are losing Joliet Christ and switching Dan Wright to Quarterback. This leaves a hole at the pure TE position. This also hurt our running game as Christ was honestly the best runner on the team. Running back will be an absolute major need, especially with a new quarterback at the helm. This draft is so massive that'll it'll be tough to not fill some of our holes. I'm extremely excited to bring our picks into the locker room as well because with all of those retirees, there's less people to talk to. It's a weird ghost town that I hope will be revived with the extremely vocal class. I feel like we'll still be able to contend even with our loss of players but we'll find out for sure in the first couple weeks of the season. 17) Robbed The San Jose Sabercats had many opportunities to be strong contenders in the playoffs. Our season started very strong winning 4 straight games. Our season took a turn after those wins. We seemed to go extremely run heavy late in games that ultimately cost us multiple first down opportunities. Our passing attack was very strong all season having multiple 1000 plus yard receivers in Xavier Flash and Cameron Olsen, but the sim seemed to not want us to use them. The receiving yard soft cap in the sim hurt us in a couple games when Xavier Flash got 130 plus yards within just a couple quarters. Overall we had a strong squad of players and great playcalling, but ultimately the sim had other ideas for how our team should be run. With all of our changes to the team this offseason we'll have to start almost from scratch so maybe that'll help us fine tune some of our game management. The sim giveth and the sim taketh away so it's just one of those things that everyone has to work around. So we can't complain too much. I damn sure will though. It wouldn't be the NSFL without some good old fashion complaining. 20) Let's get (wild!)card The wildcard game between the San Jose Sabercats and the Orange County Otters was a close finish ending 20 to 13 with Orange County securing to win. Orange County would then go on to win the Ultimus Championship. With this reasoning, I think San Jose could have easily made a run through the playoffs. What hurt San Jose in this game was the inability to get our passing game going. This had been the strongest part of our game plan all season, but we didn't have a single passing touchdown and didn't have a single receiver with more than 80 yards. Our defense was unable to hold down Franklin Armstrong and allowed him to get 2 touchdowns that both came from the red zone. We also got hit with 5 penalties in this game which gave them the first downs they needed to push towards the end zone. A mix of our red zone defense and red zone offense lost us this game where converting those field goals into touchdowns would have advanced us to the next round and changed the makeup of the playoffs. Who know, maybe it could have been San Jose on the banner at the top instead of Orange County. I guess there's always next season. 3) All about the QBs The Ultimus game with Franklin Armstrong going against Corvo Havran was absolutely a spectacle to watch. Both team leaders were on their A-game but ultimately it was Armstrong that would come out on top. Armstrong threw for 287 yards and 3 touchdowns and Havran threw for 376 and 2 touchdowns. Havran threw 52 times in that game so his completion percentage was abysmal compared to Armstrongs 27 times. Armstrongs efficiency was absolutely a big reason why Orange County came out of that game as the Ultimus champions. The Baltimore Hawks didn't use their running backs only allowing both Jimbo and Jones to rush 11 times total. The Hawks felt like they could depend on Havran to seal the game for them, but put too much stock in his abilities. Even though the score doesn't show it, it was a slugfest on both sides of the ball and Orange County and their defense had Havrans number making play after play to make sure receiving yards didn't turn into touchdowns. Armstrong only threw one more touchdown than Havran but Orange County used their running game to help open up the passing game. All in all, this was a great game to watch but it wasn't as close as the QB stats would have you believe with Orange County winning by 11 points. S17 ULTIMUS WEEK!!! - Ryan0413 - 10-03-2019 PBE PT S17 ULTIMUS WEEK!!! - SDCore - 10-03-2019 PBE PT Claim (I used PT14-0 9/22/2019 week, but I have one from this week as well hopefully this works) 7) Next year Written: If your team has been eliminated, why will the next year, or the year after that, be the year that your team is going to win the Ultimus or Ultimini. Austin is the best up and coming team in the NSFL. We won our first game last year and then kept winning. We were very close to being a top team. Our team keep earning and we have the best locker room in the NSFL. That is huge when we want to attract new young players or free agents. We should be looked as the favorite because we have a great young core who are all aging together. We are all going to be high TPE and gel together. You can already see this with Easton Cole and his receiving core. Also, our defense turned into one of the best in the league. One of our players had over a sack a game and still go no respect. Soon the league is going to have to take notice to how good we’ve become. This is our time, you will all see and remember the day Austin became a powerhouse. Look at what happened in Chicago, you won’t see that in Austin. We are here to stay, we are here to win, and you will soon be witness to that. Next season we will be better, we will be dominate and we will win, just you wait. 10) Rivalries Written: Write about another team and why they are overrated and why you want them to lose. The whole league are our rivals after they decided to let us lose a game we clearly should have won. Really I actively root against San Jose, they are always underestimating us. They said in management chat that we were a joke, but hey I guess the joke is on them, because we beat them this year. This is a story of how everyone hates Austin in this league, they rigged week 1 against us, which is just typical. San Jose thinks they are so slick with their history and stuff. They are overconfident and on the downslope of their competitiveness. Austin is on the uptick and we will be the dominant soon. How sweet will that be when they are all scared to play Austin. It is almost here to be completely honest with you. San Jose has no idea how sad it’s going to be when their over cocky butts are getting worked over by our receivers and our backs are plowing them down for extra yards. Then maybe they will respect us, because we have all the Kwan and that is all you need. Soon Austin will lead the league and have the maximum amount of Kwan. Lets go Austin, BOOO SAN JOSE! 17) Robbed Written: Write about why your team was robbed from making the Playoffs, how did the sim screw you and why were you more deserving. I don’t think you can talk about a bigger robbing this season or ever in the NSFL and not mention to the atrocities that happened week one to Austin. Are you kidding me and the league just swept it under the rug, because we are just stupid ole Austin. Here is what happened, we didn’t get update, barely anyone on our team had our update go into the sim. Then the league has the audacity to not fix this and run the first week of the season, are you kidding me this is a joke. We go on to get killed by NOLA, but we have a QB who had 60+ TPE missing from his build, a RB who had 50+, and 2 defensive players with the same. Then they quick resim the game with proper stats and we win, but NO we decide as a league to say screw Austin and that didn’t count. This is ridiculous and you almost lost me as a member and to be honest my activity has went down since this bullshit decision. Luckily Austin has a great locker room and now I’m all in for those guys. If that wasn’t the case you might have lost the whole team, good job NSFL smart decision. S17 ULTIMUS WEEK!!! - Bauer - 10-03-2019 PBE PT Task 7 - Why should the team known as the San Antonio Marshals of the DSFL league be the favorites to win the Ultimini next season? Well obviously because we are the best team in the league, and we have the best quarterback in myself. This off-season we were introduced to a brand new gm in woelkers, who I think will do a fantastic job in leading us to an ultimini victory. I believe we already have a really strong core with our team, and we won’t be losing a ton of players this season to the NSFL, so it’s really just about building upon what we already have. Hopefully the defense is just as amazing as it was this past season. As long as they hold their end of the bargain, I think the offense can get this done next season. I have absolutely no doubts about what we can accomplish next season. I think this past season we were really snubbed of a chance to win the championship because of dumb sim luck. But as long as we get a little bit of luck going our way, there’s nobody that can stop the San Antonio Marshals. I love this team, and am so proud of what they have done. Task 17 - Oh boy, the perfect way to describe how the season went for the San Antonio Marshals of the DSFL league, affiliated with the NSFL league, robbed. We easily had the best team throughout the season, but even during the regular season we were robbed. We should have had such a better season than we did, and I feel absolutely terrible for my team. I’m supposed to be their captain, and it makes it really tough to get your locker room pumped about playing when the sim absolutely bangs you sideways. That first playoff game was way worse than the regular season was though. I mean, there was a penalty for offsides against a safety. How does that even happen? Bottom line is, the sim really needs to be better. It really sucks to have your season go like that, have everyone pumped for playoffs and then have a one game exit. It’s just really not fair to the new guys who enter the league either. Imagine that being your first playoff experience, it would be such a turn off. Anyways, i’m done ranting about how we were robbed this season, i’m just ready to get this next season started so we can get robbed again. Task 18 - ![]() S17 ULTIMUS WEEK!!! - Zeegee - 10-03-2019 1) Wraiths Steal Yeti Soul In this quarterfinals match up, The Yellowknife Wraiths took on The Colorado Yetis. The first quarter started out promising for the Yeti, scoring the first touchdown, Terry Taffy powers his way in the end zone. The first quarter ends 10 to 6; could this be an upset in the making? Absolutely not. This will be the only time in this game the Yeti will hold the lead. The second quarter was dominated by the Wraiths as they put up 21 points on the board. The second quarter alone, the Wraiths put up more points than the Yeti put up for the whole game. This got out of hand quickly, the second half kicks off to Yellowknife putting up another 20 points and making this game out of reach. The fourth Quarter was the least memorable quarter of the game, as the Wraith had a 30 point lead going in. The Wraith grinded out the clock, as thhe Yeti desperately tried to piece something together, to no avail. Cooter Bigsby put up some premium numbers, going 25/46, 346 yds, while scoring 3 touchdowns and turning the ball over once. While these stats would make you think we have a game mvp, what Danyy Grithead did that day, will forever be a Hall of Fame performance. While 2 sacks would be impressive alone, or 2 interceptions; he did much more. Grithead’s dominating performance for the day ended with 9 takcles, 2 sacks, 2 interceptions, and 2 defensive touchdowns. After this performance, if anyone want this man on their team, they best brink a brinks truck because his performance was cash money. 2) The New Apex Predator: The Otter When the Ultimus Championship was about to kick off, discussion was had over how a rookie quarterback would hold up against one proven greats. The Orange County Otters’ Franklin Armstrong is a rookie and about to play the most important game of his career, to date. Corvo Havran, one of the best the league has to offer needs to manage a game and use his expert skillset to put up enough points to stop the upstart Otters. I mean how is a rookie quarterback going to show up to the Ultimus game and keep his composure? Well, ask Franklin, as he went 17/27 for 287 yards and 3 touchdowns. We very well could be looking at the beginning of a dynasty. Only time will tell if Armstrong and the Otters will make us all forget about The Arizona Outlaws and their ability to dominate the league for years with massive success. Hell, the Otters are the ones to dethrone last year’s champs in the semifinals. Armstrong didn’t put up as impressive numbers against the Outlaws, only scoring one touchdown, but he managed no interceptions and went 15/26 with 290 yards. If anything, he is consistent. The future is bright for this rookie and the sky is the limit. 3) The Man With The Golden Leg Baltimore’s Forthe Brand is a legend, some like to say the F actually stands for Field Goal, others say it is for Fantasic. For The Yellowknife Wraiths, it may have been for “Fuck” as some were heard muttering after Brand nailed a 30 yard field goal putting the 3 more on the board for Yellowknife. Although that “Fuck” ended up being reserved and loudly exclaimed by the Wraith’s bench and fans all amongst the stadium and the world when rookie kicker, Kicky Bobby missed a 22 yard field goal that would have tied the game up and potentially led to an overtime quarter of redemption. On the day For the Brand made three of his three xtra points and effortlessly made a 30 yard field goal and a 43 yarder, giving him 9 points on the day and helping Baltimore eek out the win. Not to mention his 7 punts for 319 yards, averaging out to 45.6 yards and whopping 67 long, as well as two key punts inside the 20, giving great defensive field position. For the playoffs, there would not be a more epic performance, there may have been a field goal or two kick for more than 50 yards, and hell yes, that is some power, but none more clutch than this performance in this tight game that could have gone either way. We don’t always get excited about kickers, but on this day Brand is king. S17 ULTIMUS WEEK!!! - Huskies311 - 10-03-2019 5) Stupid Tiebreaker! The Hawks lost home field advantage on a tie breaker. What was that tiebreaker you ask? Conference record? Boring! The tie breaker should have been a fight to the death, full on gladiator style. We could market it everywhere for the good of the league. GM vs GM, Corvo fist to fist with Cooter, Leaf throwing his cola all over his teammates... What better way to spend a Saturday night then to watch this? And I mean honestly, why should we stop there? Just make the whole playoffs a fight to the death. No need for silly child’s games like throwing a ball or kicking it through the net. The NSFL is a man’s game. If you aren’t willing to put your life on the line you shouldn’t be in this pretend league. Finally, you might point out that home field advantage isn’t worth someone’s life since the Hawks won on the road anyway (as did the Otters but we’ll just ignore that one). And you’d be completely right. I just want to fight someone gladiatorially like some sort of weird Black Mirror episode. It’d be way better than just looking at a screen showing who beat who in the conference. 8) Draft Focus It’s no secret that the Baltimore Hawks have had very little draft capital in a long time. In fact, I don’t believe we’ve had a first rounder since s14. That includes this upcoming draft. However, we do have 3 3rd rounders which in a draft this big, all 3 can definitely be actives. I’m biased but I was a 4th rounder back in s15 so it’s definitely possible. The only position group on our team without any actives is defensive line, so look for us to try and go there early. Another position that can be useful for us is linebacker. We currently only have iseedoug and I, and Doug is in the back end of regression. Having a linebacker with me for the future would be extremely useful. The Hawks also need a backup running back behind workhorse Dorfus Jimbo. Jimbo showed early last season that he could be a #1 guy, but having a solid backup is instrumental to keeping the legs fresh. It’s also possible that we go Tight End, as Verso is also in regression. Honestly, most of this draft is looking towards the season after this and beyond since it’s hard to get a someone to play right away once you’re moving toward the middle to later part of the draft. Next Year Next year is definitely the Hawks chance to win another our franchises second Ultimus. Coming off of my first Ultimus game, which unfortunately ended in a loss, hasn’t stopped our locker room from being optimistic. As long as we remain active, and maybe hit on a draft pick or two, we should be in contention for the title. I mean we have the new MVP Corvo Havran just slinging it all over the place, s15 best running back Dorfus Jimbo, the best receiver in the league Errol Maddox, a still solid tight end... and that’s only on offense. Our defense remains active and most importantly pretty young. Our safety duo is the best in the league. I’m trying to anchor the defense from the middle of the field. Our CBs are getting older but will still be elite this year. If you look at our conference, Yellowknife is better on paper. But Chicago is tanking, Colorado is improved but still needs a season, and Philadelphia is rebuilding as well. That bodes well for Baltimore to make the playoffs, and once you’re there, anything can happen. If you look at the other conference, there is definitely some teams that can compete. But we’ll worry about that if we get there. S17 ULTIMUS WEEK!!! - Jepox - 10-03-2019 SHL PT 3) All about the QBs ![]() 6) Our Time ![]() 19) Kickers are people too! ![]() S17 ULTIMUS WEEK!!! - Zeddez - 10-03-2019 PBE PT 3) All about the QBs Written: Write 200 words on one of the QB matchups in this year's playoffs. What are you most excited to see (Or excited to have seen), who will play better (Or who played better), etc. The best quarterback matchup in the playoffs had to be the matchup in the NSFC championship game between the Hawks and the Wraiths, and their respective quarterback Corvo Havran and Cooter Bigsby. Looking at the season before the playoffs Cooter Bigsby of the Wraiths had just over 150 more attempts than Harvan through the season and had exactly 50 more completions than Harvan. Obviously that put Harvan's completion percentage higher than Bigsby's; at almost 6 percent more than Bigsby's. They both had the same number of touchdowns, but Harvan had less INT's than Bigsby. This and the completion percentage might have had a part in Harvan having a 15 point edge over Bigsby in the quarterback rating through the season, To the NSFC championship game. Harvan had the edge in the completion percentage area with a 58% of his passes completed while Bigsby completed 54.5% of his passes. Harvan also edged out the yards per attempt by just .3 yards. Just as in the regular season, Bigsby had more attempts and completions and yards, and Harvan was more efficient and had a higher raing. Unlike the regular season one quarterback got more touchdowns than the other, that was Corvo Harvan who had 3 TD's to Bigsby's 1 TD. All of this had the game really close, but the hawks won by 3 with 27-24. S17 ULTIMUS WEEK!!! - youngcricket - 10-03-2019 3. In this playoffs, I am obviously excited to see every game that Andrew Reese plays. I also am excited to see Franklin Armstong and luckily they played each other the first round. Andrew Reese is obviously my current quarterback, but Armstrong was my quarterback in the DSFL ranks and as somebody who was always very nice to me. Two of the nicer guys in the league? What better than seeing them face off in a heated rivalry game. The game unfortunately did not go the Outlaws' way and it did not go Reese's way either. He did manage to throw for 2 touchdowns, but he threw under 50 percent and had a quarterback rating of a measly 72.5 Franklin Armstrong also tossed for 290 yards and a touchdown and managed to win player of a game. He didn't do anything too special, but he took great care of the ball and was efficient in moving the ball down the field for his team. I thought he did a good job of eating up time with their drives and managing the game to keep his team in it. Reese has an off game, unfortunately, and the Outlaws ended up losing the game. 4. My matchup to write about is Leighton Lee and Apollo Reed. Lee has already seen Reed a lot in regular season games because they play in the same conference and he is now seeing him in the postseason. There is no bad blood of beef between the two, but it is definitely a matchup that could help sway which way the game goes depending on how each guy plays. Reed has been a very productive running back his whole career and Lee has been an impact player at middle linebacker since he came into the league as well. Reed ended up being able to carry the ball 10 times for 50 yards, which came out to be a very good 5 yards per carry. Leighton Lee apparently got shredded because he only had 4 tackles all game. This shows that he was nto able to stop Apollo Reed and allowed him to run all over the defense. It is unclear if the runs were coming towards Lee or not, but someboyd needed to stop him. Reed also had one catch, but that is not too bad so it appears Lee did a good job against him in pass coverage. Lee will need to step up next year. 6. Our Time should've been this year becasue we won last year and we are even better this year. We were able to add veteran wide receiver Vinny Valentine to our squad, our young core continued to get more and more training hours and we have a maxed out quarterback playing for us. Our running backs got depreciated a little, but we still had a very good core and I think that we will continue to do so. If you look at our defense, we had Leighton lee, Raymond Vans, Lucas Knight, Ricardo Morris, Lamont McKinnie all coming back substantially better, so it seems like our team would be ready to win some games and show the world what we are made of. We also still had Bucky Barnes. We have a worse kicker for sure, but Dean Jackson was kind of a washed up nub anyways. I think that our offensive firepower should scare any team because it can score points very quickly and efficiently. Our defense is a challenge for any team in the league because of the versatility and just amount of talent that is in our second and third levels. The defensive line definitely isn't the best, but I think we should be favorites to win it all. 7. Newsflash, we didn't end up winning it all, in fact, we actually lost in our first game in the playoffs which was pretty cool I guess. I think that next season is ours though because we are all super committed to becoming a team that goes on a run of a few years in a row. We have Saba coming up and Josh Parker coming over and I'm sure there will be some talent that we establish in the draft to help keep pushing us towards being an elite level team. We know what it is like to win so that will help us figure out how to do it again. I also think that we are under really good leadership with SwagSloth/Andrew Reese and that we are well positioned to be able to make more free agent signings and trades with him leading our team. I would be surprised if we just sat pat because I know he is always looking how to make this team better. I think we will also progress as individual players over the course of the off-season and season and will be a lot ifferent team than we are riht now when playoffs roll around. |
