Response to Portland Management Change - Memento Mori - 04-23-2020

Going to say one thing. I don't want to argue with anyone so I'll just make my point and back out.

The idea that anyone has to prove themselves innocent is maddening to me. Especially in a system where HO doesn't provide evidence in the thread when they punish someone. The burden of proof is the complete wrong way round. No disciplinary system, whether legal or otherwise, that I've ever seen works in this way. Maybe the fact I'm a newer user means my fresh eyes are valuable, or maybe it means I don't know what I'm talking about. But the system looks really dysfunctional and poorly constructed to me. I don't want to talk about the Jeff situation, it's over, whatever. I'd much rather see changes going forward.

Obviously people on the internet aren't always rational, and maybe the fact that we invest so much time into the league makes us prone to taking stuff like this personally. But generally, this community is really positive, friendly and welcoming. And then everything related to HO, punishments, appeals; suddenly this place is as toxic as anywhere on the internet.

Maybe it's a necessary evil, and maybe the toxicity in some weird way is why people are nice the rest of the time. But that seems pretty far-fetched to me. Every punishment thread is people bringing up the same concerns and being horrible to each other, while these concerns are dismissed as people overreacting to a punishment.

If everyone's always saying the same thing, maybe some of them have a point? Surely we can come up with a system better than this? Because this really seems to bring out the worst in people.
