(S23) - PT3 - Dream Team - Cheech65 - 07-01-2020 It is apparent to me that the NSFL lacks a presence in the Midwestern United States. Theres's the Chicago Butchers, but that's it. The Southwest has plenty of teams, but it seems like there's a giant Great Plains-shaped hole in the demographic coverage. To fill in this gap and to pull in more fans from the region, I suggest we head 800 miles north of Austin. My expansion team would be the Lincoln Lumbermen, out of Nebraska. Lincoln is smack dab in the middle of the country, and the Lumbermen would be a great representation of the hard working Americans that not only founded this nation, but expanded west into these territories to stake their claim. The Lumbermen would not only represent the history of the region they will represent, they will also pull in a new fanbase that can stretch across the 4 states that Lincoln is the center of: Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, and Iowa. On top of a new base of fans in a new region of the country, the Lincoln Lumbermen would offer a new flash to the NSFL. The Lumbermen would use a green, red, and gold color scheme so far unseen in the NSFL, setting them apart from the sameness we've seen (no offense to Colorado, Arizona, or Chicago). I think this expansion would be a tremendous success should the NSFL decide to take it on. New fans, new uniforms, and new energy through the league. (S23) - PT3 - Dream Team - PSanchez55 - 07-01-2020 Expansion, Expansion... All this talk about expansion. It seems that ever since s15, all the league has done is expand. We have moved from 8 to 12 teams, and from 4 to 8? real DSFL teams. We have rules in place to keep IAs from getting DSFL starting positions. The league is doing great and growing rapidly. If I were an expansion GM... (At one point this seemed quite feasible, but now would be a very strange occurrence due to my semi activity and what not) where would I put a team? I am always a huge supporter of putting teams in the Lone Star State. But, with Austin and Dallas having teams already, would that be wise? San Antonio at one point had a DSFL team. Houston is always a good location, but that puts 3 teams in a 14-16 team league in New Orleans, Houston, and Austin. (That's not far.) California has two teams at worst already, and besides Cali is lame. The north eastern US is represented by Philly and Baltimore I guess? Boston and New York are teamless. Why not put a team in Delaware? The Dover Divers. Yeah, sounds good. At least it's a better name than the Hahalua. Sorry Dwyer (S23) - PT3 - Dream Team - nick900 - 07-01-2020 As the NSFL expands, I believe Rochester, NY would be a great site for a new team. Sports teams thrive here in Rochester as the Red Wings have been playing baseball here since 1899 and have won a total of 19 league titles. The Razorsharks dominated the ABA and PBL basketball leagues by having won a total of 8 championships, while only being active since 2005. Minor league hockey has seen its share of success as well, as the Rochester Americans have won 6 Calder Cups and have topped their division 14 times while playing here since 1956. Professionally speaking, the Rochester Royals won an NBA championship in 1951 before eventually becoming the Sacramento Kings, the franchises only championship. The original Rochester Knighthawks playing professional lacrosse, won a total of 8 championships and 10 division titles from 1955 to 2019. Rochester has its name etched in professional football history as well, as the Rochester Jeffersons, or the "Jeffs", used to play here at Edgerton Park. It is clear that teams who play in Rochester tend to be very successful. I believe bringing back the Rochester Jeffersons would be an interesting name for a new expansion team in the NSFL while wearing a unique colored uniform of Purple, Red and White. Although, dont be surprised if they win the championship in their first season. (S23) - PT3 - Dream Team - thevoicelesscreator - 07-01-2020 I love and hate expansion talk. It's such an exciting time, but it is unbelievably stressful if you are on the other side of management. That being said, if I had to pitch an expansion team, it would have to be a hometown team for me. I'm thinking the Calgary Cowboys. The NSFL desperately needs another Canadian team, and I can think of no better city to the Dallas, Texas. The Lone Star state already has a DSFL team in the Dallas Birddogs, so the Calgary Cowboys would share a pretty special connection with them there. This instant connection would help establish a fanbase by building on the existing fanbase the Birddogs have. It's a distinct connection, and one that should give the Cowboys a leg up in terms of bids. In terms of the city's connection to the team? Calgary is known primarily for the Calgary Stampede - North America's largest rodeo show that last 10 days in the peak of the summer season. This city lives and breathes cowboy culture. And football is a huge part of that. The city is also known for being incredibly loyal to their team, granted if they have the funds. If the money isn't a problem, neither would be space. Calgary has existing infrastracture that could be overhauled or rebuilt to the league's liking. All the blocks line up, Calgary would be a perfect place for a NSFL team. (S23) - PT3 - Dream Team - Nhamlet - 07-01-2020 In honor of Canada Day, I would have to go for another team that would be based in Canada. There's quite a few 'normal' solid choices in cities such as Vancouver, Toronto or even Montreal as some of the major ones to house a sports team. That being said, with the kind of diversity that the NSFL has, I think it's better to go off the mark kind of team. If we were to go simple and straight forward sort of basic type of name, Drumheller Dino's would be an easy concept to go for. The town is considered the dinosaur capital, with the world's largest dinosaur model there. It's not particularly exciting as a brand but it's safe, a hit with the locals and just fits right as a sports team. Another interesting city for an expansion, mostly for its town name more than anything would be Vulcan. Another place in Alberta, there's a lot of alliterative ideas like the Vulcan Vultures since birds and sports teams just seem to be a thing. The name itself it is a nice harsh and tough sounding place even though the town itself might not exactly be incredibly inspiring other than the added-on Star Trek coincidence which I don't think the NSFL would ever touch. I do like the Vulcan Vultures idea as with an animated vulture, it can be both menacing as a figure but also having a cute and adorable mascot for the younger fans. Kind of quirky too I suppose. (S23) - PT3 - Dream Team - hotdog - 07-01-2020 Since I myself am from Boston I think it'd be cool to get a franchise there. The NFL of course has a New England team, as does the SHL - you know, those two equally important and real leagues - but I'd be partial to a Boston team specifically. There is, of course, a ton of American history rooted there, but I don't tend to love those sorts of names. Silly names are always neat, like the Boston Baked Beans and the logo is just a sloppy mess of nasty looking baked beans standing against like 13 very legit other logos in the league haha. I'm kind of partial to that, but I don't actually like baked beans myself. In terms of wildlife there's not too many exciting things around the area. We do have a lot of cardinals, and Boston Cardinals sounds kind of nice (there's also a catholicism tie in if that's your jam) but I'd rather a unique name that doesn't appear in other leagues. All that said I think I'd settle for the Boston Bricks. It's alliterative, it's dumb, it's not used elsewhere (because it's dumb), and it'd require having an extremely strong defense. The color scheme, of course, would be centered around brick red, which is already somewhat used in this league but oh well. (S23) - PT3 - Dream Team - TheCC - 07-01-2020 There are so many options available for an expansion franchise. Some of the first media pieces that I wrote were my power rankings of the NSFL and DSFL teams, based on which team’s mascots would ultimately win in a fight against each other. So I think that with my expansion team, I’d have to shoot for something that could easily win the mascot brawl. That brings up an interesting question. What mascot could I pick that could easily defeat every other mascot? Something undead, maybe? No, too easy. A decapitation would do the trick. Something robotic in nature? No, EMP blast. Oh! I have it. Technologically Advanced Aliens. Now, I’m a big fan of alliteration, but I don’t think that I can work any alliteration in with Technologically Advanced Aliens, so let’s change that to Amazingly Advanced Aliens. It’s not quite as intimidating, but it works. Now I have something to work with. There aren’t any planets or moons that I know of that start with A, so we’ll have to think bigger. The Andromeda Amazingly Advanced Aliens. Now that’s a franchise. It may be a bit expensive in terms of travel, but I think we can get around that by having the Aliens play 8 home games in a row, and then 8 away games in a row. I think this could work out well, I’ll be sure to pitch this one at the next expansion. 237 words (S23) - PT3 - Dream Team - Rufio_NZ - 07-01-2020 I did a the graphix version for PT. Presenting.. The expansion team from New Zealand! The Otago Blue Penguins. or just Otago Penguins. Or it could be New Zealand Penguins. Or New Zealand Blue Penguins. Or it could even be like. Dunedin Blue Penguins or Dunedin Penguins. Maybe like an italian switch on it and go Dunedin Penguinis or New Zealand Pengulus. Perhaps go a bit more traditional Māori on it and call them the Dunedin kororā or New Zealand kororā. or double down on the native tongue and call them the Aotearoa (New Zealand) kororā (penguin). Or go 50/50 each way and have it Aotearoa Blue Penguins or Aotearoa Penguins. Too large using an entire nation and want a city? Sure we can use Māori names for cities too. Ōtepoti (Dunedin) Kororā (Penguin) = Ōtepoti Kororā. In the time that I have been writing this I am liking them as I am going further and further along. I no longer want Otago Blue Penguins. I kinda like Aotearoa Kororā. ![]() A simple kinda one on the left and a more detailed one on the right Edit: Updated team name to the one I actually want now. ![]() For a more like, professional look I took this one from online and adjusted the name and colors. ![]() (S23) - PT3 - Dream Team - Sylphreni - 07-02-2020 Easily the best idea for a future expansion team in the NSFL is the Quebec City Moosekateers. The league has already opened itself to international franchises with London and Tijuana in the DSFL and Yellowknife in the NSFL, so I would like to see them carry on the tradition and bring in a second Canadian team. The Moosekateers are a great fit, as they really embrace the French heritage that Quebec City, and by extension the province of Quebec derives a lot of pride from. It also gives the league a faux-French team, which star RB Marcella Toriki has suggested might be the only thing capable of tearing her away from the New Orleans Second Line. Using her as the centerpiece of the offense, the team is sure to have a strong outlook in their inaugural season. Likewise, the team is sure to attract many marquee free agents with its fantastic branding and brand new stadium. The Moosekateers are also fantastic from a branding and merchandise standpoint. Who doesn't love an adorable little moose plushie? Or moose bumper stickers that read "Loose the Moose?" Perhaps I can interst you in a rapier with a moose carved into the pommel? It's this sort of fantastic branding and forward thinking that is sure to lead the Moosekateers to be an instant success in the NSFL.
