(S3) - PT #1 - Rookie Spotlight - Apache_Chief - 09-14-2017 There are plenty of Rookies to watch this year, especially on teams that are depending on them to come in and turn the franchise around. But when you're the best, why the hell would you want to change anything? Sure, the Outlaws are two time Ultimus Champs, but they can't be perfect can they? That's where the future DROTY and ROTY comes in; Franklin Harris Jr. The Outlaws had one flaw last season and that was in their cornerback play. Sure, Flock and the crew held down the secondary enough to get them the trophy, but only one true CB was on the roster pre-draft. Now, coming into the preseason, they have two superstar corners, one in P. Carter, the proven veteran from Colorado, the other in their new Rookie phenom Franklin Harris Jr. By drafting FHJ, the Outlaws made a statement; we've got more room in our trophy case. By improving on a secondary, you improve the whole team. Better secondary allows for more time for sacks to happen, less big plays, and gets your offense back on the field ASAP. Franklin Harris Jr. has something to prove; and that something is that he is the rookie to beat when awards come around. (S3) - PT #1 - Rookie Spotlight - jaskins811 - 09-14-2017 The rookie I am looking most forward to see play is rookie tight end Joseph Askins for the Yellowknife Wraiths. He might not be the most exciting player coming out of college, but I think he has more potential than anyone else coming out of this draft class due to the hard work he puts in week in and week out. At ASU, Askins was known by all of his teammates to be a guy who was first on the field and the last one to leave. This hard working mentality should cross over into the National Simulation Football League and Askins will soon be a force to be reckoned with. In his first two preseason games with the Wraiths, Askins has been fairly quite as far as production goes, catching only 2 passes each game averaging 5 yards per catch, but he has been very active in other parts of the game. He has done a great job at opening up holes for the offense, allowing the run game to get going, and he even had four pancake blocks against the San Jose Sabercats! Askins is a player with loads of potential, and after landing on the perfect team to suit his needs, he should be a household name in no time at all. (S3) - PT #1 - Rookie Spotlight - Esa77 - 09-14-2017 ![]() (S3) - PT #1 - Rookie Spotlight - Waters - 09-14-2017 hello its me, jimmy cox, brother of vinny cox, and im here to kill shit O-Liners like that @Evok fuck. I'm very excited to see myself play because im smart im kind im blind and im lovable and thats all you need to be beautiful in the 21st century. Jimmy Cox is a great DE cause hes a small boi but hes also a big boi hes like khalil mack you know he just tackles the tackle and guards the guard from being a good guard you get what im saying hes real skilled. wtf why am i talking about myself in the 3rd person, just watch this video [iframe width=\\\"560\\\" height=\\\"315\\\" src=\\\"https://www.youtube.com/embed/vFuc4Rllys0\\\" frameborder=\\\"0\\\" allowfullscreen][/iframe] I hope you enjoyed that because it has absolutely 0 to do with me. Why am I a great DE? Well, unlike that fat fuck @Kris, i can actually put my own pants on in the morning, and also i have 6 tackles so far in pre-season and i'm pretty sure thats average but im just saying im pretty sure thats the best stats a DE named Cox has ever put up in the pre-season so you get me. Real excited to get going with the Otters this year and I'm sure Cox gonna live up to his name. (S3) - PT #1 - Rookie Spotlight - manicmav36 - 09-14-2017 The Baltimore Hawks had a banner year in season 2. After winning 8 games and going undefeated at home, the won their first ever playoff game to clinch a spot in the Ultimus Bowl. Although things didn't go well for them in that game (under statement), their hot streak continued in the off-season with two of the biggest steals of the draft, Ricardo Sandoval and Trey Willie. Today, however, I would like to focus on a fellow defensive line member, Ricardo Sandoval. In season 2, the Baltimore Hawks had one of the most feared front sevens in the NSFL. The had 2 All-Pros on the line In Kurt Hendrix and Burt Metas, and 2 All-Pro linebackers in Stephen Harrison and Erasmo Broadway. With the addition of Ricardo Sandoval, the Hawks have, arguably, the most punishing defensive line in the NSFL. Sandoval brings with him an unusual amount of raw power, not usually seen from a rookie. As a rookie, Sandoval is the strongest player on the Hawks defensive line, behind only Kurt Hendrix, a 2-time Pro Bowl selection. While his strength would usually land him in the traditional nose tackle position, his quick first step and high football IQ mean he’ll be doing a lot more than filling running lanes. With Sandoval and Metas routinely drawing double-teams in the middle, look for Hendrix to continue dominating and 2nd year player, Owen Taylor, to have a break out year. The future is bright in Baltimore. (S3) - PT #1 - Rookie Spotlight - Anti-Hype - 09-14-2017 [div align=\\\"center\\\"]Noah Goodson may not be a S3 rookie up there in the NSFL but, down here in the DSFL hes already made waves as the #1 overall pick in the inaugural draft. The reason alone is the unparalleled potential our scouts and GM RainDelay saw. I wont lie I was not aware of Noahs reputation but within mere minutes I could see the dedication, and the workhorse attitude when it comes to developing. I can tell you he is going to quickly close the gap between him and a lot of the players down here who have already been drafted to the NSFL. Now, we've only been running scrimmages with our practice squad but, he's already quite a few steps ahead of most if not all the LBs I've seen in the DSFL. If he keeps this up I can see him developing into someone who may even rival Ernston of the Outlaws numbers. Whatever the decision is next season when the NSFL draft come around, even if Goodson only spends a season with us I can assure you it will be a lasting legacy as one of the few players who helped kick start the newly founded Portland Franchise. That's for certain. [/div] @toivo (S3) - PT #1 - Rookie Spotlight - ErMurazor - 09-14-2017 There are a lot of rookies that are going to blow the doors off of the league in the coming preseason. On the Outlaws alone there’s half a roster of rookies that the fans are going to love. Franklin Harris Jr. is likely to be a cold-blooded killer in the league, and I mean that literally it’s in the dude’s DNA. Godfrey King is a 300+ pound man that only had two passions, trading cards and sacking QBs, and he’s just about got all of the Pokemon. Sammy Zhang is like the energizer bunny, nothing can keep that kid down. Jaxon Tuck is a bit of a whiny baby, but maybe he’ll do big things in the league. Archetype Schmarchetype is going to take the league by storm, 1 pancake at a time. Mark Strike is going to go down in the DSFL hall of fame, the kid’s already got playoff experience under his belt for crying out loud. Charlie Law has the best hands in the league and he hasn’t even played in a regular season game, he’s going to light it up. There’s one rookie not on the Outlaws that has caught my eye though. Connor Tanner is a tight end with great athlete pedigree. He hails from the Emerald Isle but he’s from a long line of professional hockey players who have shown the persistence to go the distance as professional athletes. Connor is no different. This kid is always hitting up the media, league events, and discussions to get his name out there. He’s playing in the developmental league even though he was drafted by the worst team in the league but he’s still out there on the prowl trying to get his name out there. “Hey write some stories about me!” “Tanner’s going to make the Legion good you watch!” and “I’m no Charlie Law, but I’m better than that sell-out Ricky Maddox, you’ll see.” So to you Mr. Tanner I say, I see you man. I’m watching, here you go. @Keyg_an @Apache_Chief @AdamS @kcheng686 @Schmarchee @`BrotherP` @Shadowz (S3) - PT #1 - Rookie Spotlight - AdamS - 09-15-2017 There's not just one rookie on my list. As a rookie myself, I'm excited to see the entire class and how it shapes the league. From a game standpoint, from a chat standpoint, and from an innovation standpoint. So many different people coming in and adding ideas and perspectives to what is still a pretty new sim to begin with. Just look at what's happening the last week. A version of fan duel is being tested. Twitter is in the ground stages of being a part of the league. There are still conversations about the sim mechanics themselves and whether or not certain plays even work. People are starting podcasts. So much stuff is happening and the rookie presence is a big reason why. I'm excited to take my own place here and not just watch as it flourishes and grows, but be a part of that growth. I love the idea that a few months from now we could be looking at the idea that taking a kicker in round 1 was this amazing idea. Or we could be talking about who's going to be on the NSFL's version of Hard Knocks this year. Or who really should've won season 3's rookie of the year award. I can' wait to be able to look back and trace various developments and big moments to this rookie class. (S3) - PT #1 - Rookie Spotlight - Molarpistols - 09-15-2017 It's a tough decision to choose a single rookie from the Otters roster to be excited about. The Otters draft board fell such that they were able to fill a need with a high-upside player at almost every pick. With the quick retirement and arrest of Franklin Harris, the Otters were suddenly in need of linebackers. First-round pick Julian O'Sullivan looks to be exactly what the doctor ordered. The run-stopping tackle machine made an impact in his first game action, recording several tackles while filling the middle linebacker position. Another exciting rookie is DE J.D. Boom. The talented DE was a consensus first-round pick until he contacted the GMs of every team, saying that his heart wasn't in it anymore, and that they shouldn't pick him. His draft stock plummeted until the Otters took a gamble in the 4th round, taking him with the 25th pick. The gamble was rewarded, as Boom revealed he was simply trying to gauge which teams were actually paying attention. He had been visibly keeping active in workouts, but it went seemingly un-noticed by everyone but the Otters. He received the Otters Game-ball for the first pre-season game, for his contribution of 4 tackles and 2 sacks. Hopefully for the Otters, these two rookies continue paying dividends, and that their other rookies strive to be even better. Code: 220 (S3) - PT #1 - Rookie Spotlight - PlotzkeA - 09-15-2017 The rookie I am most excited to see this upcoming year is the Baltimore Hawks first round pick Ricardo Sandoval. He had a short stint last season with the Orange County Otters. Although he did not put up record breaking numbers, he did very well for a rookie. In 6 games he posted 22 tackles, 2 sacks and 1 tackle for loss. Spanning that over a 14 game season he would have had 51 tackles, 4 sacks and 2 tackles for loss. Again, not record breaking, but a modest start to his NSFL career. You also have to factor in that he did not have an entire offseason to train or prepare, he was thrown in bare bones and had to do his best to thrive in the Otters defensive scheme. The Hawks last season acquired JD Boom from waivers, he played in all 14 games and was able to amass 40 tackles, 7 sacks and 1 forced fumble. From these stats it is clear that Sandoval is more of a run stopping DE and Boom is a pass rushing DE, with the Hawks defense looking to repeat their stellar performance from last season, they are going to need to look more for consistency than for flashy big plays. Sandoval will play a big role in our D-Line success and we look forward to having him play this season. (229 words) |
