*The NSFL Depth Chart - Final Edition - majesiu - 08-18-2018 This time we will focus on the league-wide picture, after detailed looks at every position. We will have different sections comparing positions to each other but also take look at each regression class, showcasing best players, team structures and finally summarizing grades from every edition to see which team has best current, future team offence/ defence/overall. Plan of releases: 1. 8/14 - K/P 2. 8/15 - QB 3. 8/15 - RB 4. 8/16 - DE/DE 5. 8/16 - LB 6. 8/17 - S 7. 8/17 - CB 8. 8/18 - WR/TE 9. 8/18 - League-wide picture and further analysis All values used were based on the last update of the regular season (not the playoffs one, to give all teams equal chance). Quite possible this will become a seasonal thing if there will be interest in it. A. Positions Comparision Comparing all players on all team rosters (including DSFL) would be problematic since would inflate numbers, thus I think restricting the analysis to just 200+ TPE would give us a better picture: ![]() A quick reminder about position needs assumptions we made in the analysis:
Defensive Backs are in decent condition, even though there is only 14 200+ CB most of them are on the elite level. Running Back position is rejuvenated with the newest wave of prospects and Tight Ends mesh very well with Wide Receiver corps. Remaining 3 positions seem to be in crisis though - Defensive Ends, Defensive Tackles and especially Kicker/Punters desperately need reinforcements. But which position is most popular among the best of the best currently? Let's take a look at top 25 in terms of TPE positions: ![]() The most popular position also gets most representatives in Top 25, but what if we divided numbers by team needs? 1) QB - 4 2) WR/CB/S - 2 3) LB/RB/K/P - 1 4) DE/DT - 0.5 This paints a slightly different picture suggesting while reinforcing QB/WR as elite suggests that Safety/Cornerback have quite a good contingent of elite players too. While we are at the Topic of Elite players what is the current Top 10? 1. ![]() 2. ![]() 3. ![]() 4. ![]() 5. ![]() 6. ![]() 7. ![]() 8. ![]() 9. ![]() 10. ![]() 4 Wraiths, 3 Hawks and 1 Otter, Yeti and Second-liner B. Regression Class Breakdown Before we go into Top 10 in each regression class and positional breakdown within it let's do a thought experience and see how the league would look like if we ignored first 4 Draft Classes and only used players from S5+ Draft and requiring them to have at least 100 TPE: ![]() A lot of interesting conclusions can be made: - Offensive positions other than K/P, TE (which aren't by any means terrible here) are in excellent state and have a bright future, which was always the norm for WR/QB but now RB will try to join that elite tier. - Only defensive position in good shape is the Safety, both with a gaudy amount of players and good earners. - How the mighty have fallen - LB has a lot of their players from S1-S4 and might take a nosedive in near future. - Mentioned before elite CB are S1-S4 for the most part. I talked more about it in the CBs dedicated part but there is only 1(!) player in the S6-S9 span with more than 200 TPE. - DE/DT continue their downward trajectory. Now the time has come to go through each regression class (keep in mind S1-S3 class will have their regression applied soon, it's not included yet), starting with the most magnificent one, probably forever in the league history - S1 class: ![]() So many positions still depending on S1 vets, especially QB, LB, and DE. S1 Top 10 1. ![]() 2. ![]() 3. ![]() 4. ![]() 5. ![]() 6. ![]() 7. ![]() 8. ![]() 9. ![]() 10. ![]() Two Linebackers at the Top and 3 players with still around 1000 TPE mark. Even though regression is taking a 30% toll on them if they decide so they very well might be playing their way into S12/13. Most of them tough either already decided or will hang up the cleats soon. ![]() It's clearly RB class with very strong (~800+ TPE average) 3 man CB corps. S2 Top 10 1. ![]() 2. ![]() 3. ![]() 4. ![]() 5. ![]() 6. ![]() 7. ![]() 8. ![]() 9. ![]() 10. ![]() Current TPE leader Dermot Lavelle accompanied by 3 more 1000+ TPE players. Some of those players already retired like Dustin Evans and Vincent Sharpei ending their career on the highest note - winning the S9 Ultimus with ![]() ![]() Really good defensive class, especially at DT and CB. S3 Top 10 1. ![]() 2. ![]() 3. ![]() 4. ![]() 5. ![]() 6. ![]() 7. ![]() 8. ![]() 9. ![]() 10. ![]() Second, highest TPE in NSFL (and soon highest with S10 regression applied) belongs to Trey Willie, though you can clearly see slowed down growth and lower number of players in this class - 9th best player in S2 would still be 5th best in S3 class, even with one tier of regression already applied. ![]() The most bizarre class in NSFL history, mostly due to the creation of DSFL, which reduced significantly window where players were considered as S4. S4 Top 10 (well, Top 5, rest not found) 1. ![]() 2. ![]() 3. ![]() 4. ![]() 5. ![]() 2 Franchise players, 1 good linebacker and two replacement level players, nuff said. ![]() With an extended window this class you'd expect it to be amazing, but just 15 players from that class are still on the NSFL/DSFL roster S5 Top 10 1. ![]() 2. ![]() 3. ![]() 4. ![]() 5. ![]() 6. ![]() 7. ![]() 8. ![]() 9. ![]() 10. ![]() 5 amazing players that should be great for their teams for quite some time even into their regression accompanied by some less/semi-active talent. ![]() We can say that S6 class is opening the new era, wherein Top 3 you can find at least 1 franchise level QB talent after none in S3-S5 drafts. This class is solid all around, especially at LB with a lone exception of DT/CB positions. S6 Top 10 1. ![]() 2. ![]() 3. ![]() 4. ![]() 5. ![]() 6. ![]() 7. ![]() 8. ![]() 9. ![]() 10. ![]() Really good class with 10 550+ TPE players headlined by franchise talents of Borkus Maximus III and Jaylon Broxton. ![]() After amazing S6 class, we come to slightly disappointing S7, just 14 players still on the rosters with only 7 NSFL ready players. Even though this class features 4 CBs only one has more than 185 TPE. S7 Top 10 1. ![]() 2. ![]() 3. ![]() 4. ![]() 5. ![]() 6. ![]() 7. ![]() 8. ![]() 9. ![]() 10. ![]() Two Yetis - Howard Miller, Ryan Applehort and a Hawk Verso L'Alto are the best talents from this class. Other than that just two more players being active and with TPE over 500. ![]() Fresh class with many players still playing in DSFL, but already showcasing big promise, especially on the defensive side of the field. S8 Top 10 1. ![]() 2. ![]() 3. ![]() 4. ![]() 5. ![]() 6. ![]() 7. ![]() 8. ![]() 9. ![]() 10. ![]() Yet another great QB Brad Pennington leading the class. Closely following in Top 10 there are 3 LB, 2 DE, 2 S and WR + TE. Great class showing great promise for the future ![]() Speaking of great classes S9 is already rock solid with the addition of recreates wave. Other than usual lack of CB/DE it's really promising and well-rounded crop of players. S9 Top 10 1. ![]() 2. ![]() 3. ![]() 4. ![]() 5. ![]() 6. ![]() 7. ![]() 8. ![]() 9. ![]() 10. ![]() Really close at the race as the class is being headlined by Kevin Fitzpatrick, Declan Harp, Bucky Barnes and Kolby Deringer. Already 10 NSFL ready players. ![]() The newest class that will be drafted soon can't come soon enough. Especially the number of quality RB should bring back the shine to this position for foreseeable future S10 Top 10 1. ![]() 2. ![]() 3. ![]() 4. ![]() 5. ![]() 6. ![]() 7. ![]() 8. ![]() 9. ![]() 10. ![]() It's even hard to describe tiers in this draft, 3 players already above 200 TPE, but you can easily see anyone going in the first round, especially considering some position are in higher demand than the others. ![]() Numbers for S11 are still obviously incomplete since they were based on last Friday roster status, but still why not to make a shout-out for players already playing in DSFL! 1. ![]() 1. ![]() 1. ![]() 4. ![]() 4. ![]() 4. ![]() 4. ![]() C. Team Grades Each team received a current grade (1-10 scale), based on average TPE of players manning the position (1 - ~50 TPE, 2 ~100 TPE, 3 ~200 TPE). Next grade - future grade - is more subjective since I also tried to estimate regression impact and current prospects in the system - 10 would mean a team has a serviceable player that could last up to 8 more seasons in that position, whole 1 means they have to draft/sign a player asap in that position. I compiled the grades from the previous edition and received the following results: ![]() Current grades seem to be on point nicely showing standings and results from last season and should be a decent indicator how the S10 might look. Please don't take big conclusions from future grades though - I'm not the best evaluator of talent and a lot of it already changed, some positions are also more impactful and represented than the others. You can't predict players going IA either. Draft picks have an even bigger impact in teams rebuild and they were not included in this analysis.
