*I'm home. - YoungTB - 10-15-2018 Let’s go back to the S9 draft. I had thought and hoped that I was going to be drafted by Arizona to be Reg Mackworthy’s protege, one of my favorite players in the NSFL. I had hit it off with the GMs of Arizona in interviews and after being in San Antonio for so long with them. But after the first pick was used on my good friend and former teammate Bucky Barnes, I had realized that I probably wasn’t going to Arizona. And it sucked. But then Philly came in and selected me with the third pick. I was surprised and had no idea what to expect as I didn’t really know many people personally that came from Philly. Sure I had my interviews with them but I had no idea that they were considering taking me over a QB like my guy Kevin Fitzpatrick. But, I had an open mind about it. When I was first drafted, walking up to the stage to take my jersey, I famously yelled “Trust The Process!”, as it was something to connect to Philly with (true story by the way, the first thing I said in the Twitch chat after I was drafted was TRUST THE PROCESS, you can go check the VODs). Liberty fans went wild, and my excitement shot through the roof. But then I realized that we probably weren’t going to be good, meaning that it’d be best for me to stay down in the DSFL. That’s fine by me, in fact, I was planning on it. But being drafted to a team that told me right off the bat that we were going to suck for a while, well... kinda sucked. I took a look at Arizona’s roster was kinda sad that I wasn’t drafted there. Fitzmagic and Barnes were there, along with the incredible GMs. But, I told myself I was going to stick it out here in Philly and make the most of it. Coming in to represent a team that goes 3-11 the following season was going to be tough. Going into S10, we’d probably be experiencing the same type of horrible season. And we did, not getting a win for the entire season. But no matter what, I wasn’t going to let that taint our image in this league and discourage the locker room (even though there wasn’t many people in there to begin with). So me and Philly rolled with the punches, motivated to get better through the draft and through our young core developing. We'd Trust the Process, not focusing on now, but focusing on the bright future that we all know this team has. This recent draft only proved how much the process is working, and I am so incredibly proud to say that our front office KILLED IT. So in the midst of 2 seasons, I went from being disappointed about being drafted to Philly to blessed. I am so happy to be able to call the Liberty my team. I’m confident in our front office’s ability to lead this team, and I’m even more confident in my incredible teammates to make a new name for ourselves. I want to win more awards, break more records, and most importantly win an Ultimus for the Liberty. I want to see my number retired in those rafters, and I want to represent Philly for as long as I can. All of this and more, is why I have decided to extend my contract and re-sign with Philly for 3 years. I’m going to be here for a long time, and it’s gonna be a hell of a ride from here on out. |
