Well, the class of Season 8 has had plenty of time to show what they’re capable of, which makes it a perfect time to fully re-evaluate the draft and see how the class panned out. What’s the best way to do this? How about a redraft!

So, for this redraft, I took into account the needs of each team as of right now instead of what they needed when they were drafting. Not only that, but I also looked into the activity of each prospect and what they’ve done since entering the league. The activity of each prospect, the accolades they’ve earned, the stats they’ve put up, are all being considered as well as if they have a league job, their activity on Discord and in LRs, etc.

So, without further ado, the draft is now open!

ROUND 1

1. Colorado Yeti COL select: Chad Pennington – LB @caltroit_red_flames
Original pick – Rickey Ramero – LB
Pennington was taken with the fifth pick by the Yellowknife Wraiths
So 3 seasons have gone by and the Yeti still have basically the same needs as they had back in Season 8, though not as drastic. They need activity, high earning players, and a great LR figure for them to brand themselves on. I think Pennington fits all three of these categories to a T, and he could easily be considered the best player from this class. In S10, Pennington racked up 121 tackles, 2 forced fumbles with 1 fumble recovery, and 4 sacks to go along with them.

2. New Orleans Second Line NOLA select: William Harrison – S @Mongoose87
Original pick - William Harrison – S
Well the saying goes; if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. And that’s exactly what I did here. To be honest, NOLA’s biggest weakness, if you could even call it a weakness, is their secondary, so I just place Harrison back as a safety in NOLA. Harrison is great all over the field, and last year’s stats only prove this, posting up 2 sacks, 5 picks, and 6 pass deflections. This pick keeps NOLA’s secondary and defense stout as a whole.

3. San Jose Sabercats SJS select: Brock Weathers III – DE (originally a LB) @BWIII
Original pick – Brad Pennington – QB
Now this original pick was looked at as a pretty good pick, and I’d have even had Brad as the number one pick had he worked out. But nowadays, he’s gone completely inactive. What was once a promising prospect is now rotting away in Yellowknife unfortunately. So being that he’s literally the only decent QB in this entire class, why not address another glaring issue of San Jose’s with this pick? Weathers III is a fantastic LR guy and is currently heading the best front office in the league in Philadelphia. San Jose gets a pass rusher that can open up their entire defense and they’re also getting someone they can build around in the locker room. Last season, Weathers picked up 8 sacks and headed a decent defensive line in Philly.

4. Baltimore Hawks BAL select: Childish Gambino – DE @Renrut
Original pick – Childish Gambino – DE
Once again, I don’t fix what’s already not broken. Hawks get the second best DE in this class and keep their title of best defensive line in the league. While I’m not quite sure of his activity in LRs, I do know that he’s pretty active on the forums and is a member of the updating team. Frankly, the Hawks really shouldn’t care too much about LR activity in this case as they already have a very active LR I assume. Harrison got 12 sacks last year on a stacked Baltimore defensive line and helped lead the team to a ring. :barf:

5. Yellowknife Wraiths YKW select: Viggo Squanch – WR @Durden
Original pick – Chad Pennington – LB
The Wraiths FINALLY give their boy Brad a WR, and a steadily earning one at that. With this pick, Squanch immediately becomes Yellowknife’s best receiver and opens up the field for their rookie standout Antonio Summer who has effectively become Pennington’s only real threat along with McPoyal. With this pick, Yellowknife’s offense improves immensely, Maybe with this pick, we see Antonio Summer position switch to WR and a dependable rookie RB in Thomas Carrasco takes over the backfield, then we’re looking at a great young offense. Viggo Squanch had quite a year last season as Kevin Fitzpatrick’s primary threat, earning 1111 yards and 8 touchdowns on 84 receptions.

6. San Jose Sabercats SJS select: Balthazar Crindy – TE @dub
Original pick – Ben Horne – LB
I think San Jose takes Crindy for two reasons. One, he’s a fantastic pass and run blocker and would be perfect for a QB like Christ, and two, it seems that he’s panning out to be a great passing threat as well. San Jose needs to build around their mobile QB and this guy is a perfect cornerstone for their offense along with guys like Flash. Jerrod Canton, their phenom rookie RB, also gets a boost from this pick and will immediately receive immense blocking help. Last season, Crindy was pretty quiet as a receiving threat with 73 receptions, 501 yards, and only 1 touchdown, but he continues to grow and develop and like I said, he’s a perfect cornerstone for a young San Jose offense.

7. New Orleans Second Line NOLA select: Ben Horne – LB @iseedoug
Original pick – Omar Wrong – DT
The rich keep getting richer with this pick. NOLA is getting one of the best defensive players in the league and a tackle monster, not to mention that iseedoug is an active member of LRs and is already a DSFL GM. This is a steal for them. Horne was able to get 117 tackles last season with 2 sacks and 2 tackles for loss. NOLA is actually pretty weak when it comes to tackling they were sixth in the league when it came to tackles last season. That of course, could be contributed to their elite offense, but why not embolden an already stout defense?

8. Philadelphia Liberty PHI select: Thad Pennington – S @Blastmeaway
Original pick – Brock Weathers III (BWIII)
Philly takes the last active player in the draft with this pick, and it really wasn’t too hard of a decision. They could have gone with Rickey Ramero, the former first overall pick now playing in Orange County who has flirted with the idea of coming back, but we haven’t really seen too much of him as of late and has since gone inactive again. This is a pretty good pick though, and a great player to add into Philly’s explosive young secondary and a great backup plan if Andre Bly Jr. does indeed leave Philly. In Pennington’s rookie season last year, he was able to get 3 picks and 18 pass deflections, electrifying YKW’s secondary. He’s a slow earner, but he’s beginning to progress pretty quickly and could turn out to be a solid safety.

I could go into the second round and on for this draft but it really wouldn’t be too interesting as this draft is very front loaded. I’ll be happy to answer any questions you all might have about my decisions and how I ranked this draft class. I’ll try and do some more of these if there’s a demand.

NOLA was only sixth in tackles because we got off the field.

That, and you guys had an offense that didn't put you on the field in the first place.
