*S1 Redraft - 14-1 - majesiu - 01-25-2019 S1 Redraft - 137-100 Part 1: Literally irrelevant S1 Redraft - 99-70 Part 2: The gone before S5 part S1 Redraft - 69-40 Part 3: First Regression Fighers S1 Redraft - 39-15 Part 4: It's getting better! S1 Redraft - 14-1 Part 5: Crème de la crème Let's remind the rules: We know about who this article will be about, but how I decided to grade players? There will be 4 factors - 3 majors and 1 minor. Due to the sheer amount of players in that draft (137), please forgive me judgment calls in category number 3 & 4, especially since I'm only around since Season 6 and don't have much knowledge about first 5 seasons. The categories: - Peak TPE/100 - Top mark was 12,22 - Career longevity - 0-12 score depending on seasons spend in the league - Career quality - 0-13 the first of judgment calls, basically non-factor is going to be 1 (0 if never suited), 2 was a bit better than replacement level, 7 made some pro-bowl and 13 is HoF caliber player. I tried to be lenient in this category, but once again - I'm not writing a dissertation about particular players, just trying to give a nice window back into S1 draft to have revived some memories, find biggest steals, busts and have something to write about. I put also a lower emphasis on the first few seasons since the low TPE levels surmount to really random results. - Activity Grade - 0 to 5 score, where 0 equals lack update page, 3 was somewhat active and 5 was always active throughout the career I'll try to write a few words about more interesting players, but more often than not I'll just be using the template I prepared for the occasion. One more note is that searching through these old days wasn't easy and I might have missed some seasons if players position switched for example, for such mistakes sincere apologies and feel free to correct me! Player name: Shane Weston - username: @Symmetrik College: UCLA Position: WR Peak TPE: 670 - TPE Score: 6,7 Last season played in the league: S11 - Longevity score: 11 Career Quality Score: 10 Activity Grade: 4 Overall Score: 31,7 Originally Drafted by: ![]() Redraft Position: 14 - Change: +55 The very loyal player that stayed with the team for his whole career, despite its struggles and only being in the playoffs once. He is one of the most prominent kicks and punt returners, with amazing 20k+ of all-purpose yards. Definitely a pick you could consider in first two rounds, especially if you value player loyalty. Lack of individual accolades and not being the absolute top earner might have held him back, doesn't change a fact Weston is one of the more prominent receivers in the league history. Player name: Vikain Marmeladov - username: @Vikain College: UCF Position: S Peak TPE: 811 - TPE Score: 8,11 Last season played in the league: S10 - Longevity score: 10 Career Quality Score: 10 Activity Grade: 4 Overall Score: 32,11 Originally Drafted by: ![]() Redraft Position: 13 - Change: +74 One of the more surprising picks and biggest steals of this draft, being able to win ever-competitive Defensive Back of the Year in his career too. Why Yeti exposed him in the expansion draft is still a mystery. Won titles as the focal point of secondary both in Philadelphia and Baltimore. Player name: Alexandre LeClair - username: @Zoone16 College: Northwestern Position: QB Peak TPE: 825 - TPE Score: 8,25 Last season played in the league: S11 - Longevity score: 11 Career Quality Score: 9 Activity Grade: 4 Overall Score: 32,25 Originally Drafted by: ![]() Redraft Position: 12 - Change: +50 Career journeyman that started as QB, switched to WR and played for many cities including Yellowknife, Baltimore, Las Vegas, and New Orleans. His career ending was also poetic as he won the title in his last game in the Ultimus against his old team. Top receiver year in and year out, from S1 to S11. Player name: Kurt Hendrix - username: @HENDRIX College: USC Position: LB Peak TPE: 990 - TPE Score: 9,9 Last season played in the league: S11 - Longevity score: 11 Career Quality Score: 9 Activity Grade: 3 Overall Score: 32,9 Originally Drafted by: ![]() Redraft Position: 11 - Change: +45 First of three Baltimore picks in Top 11 and their GM for some time. Unfortunately didn't stay active long enough to see the team win their first Ultimus title in S10, but had a great career nonetheless. While not winning many individual accolades, he amassed a lot of career stats and was the main cog so 11 seasons in one of the most dangerous league defenses. Player name: Mike Boss - username: @JBLAZE_THE_BOSS College: Boston College Position: QB Peak TPE: 870 - TPE Score: 8,7 Last season played in the league: S9 - Longevity score: 9 Career Quality Score: 13 Activity Grade: 3 Overall Score: 33,7 Originally Drafted by: ![]() Redraft Position: 10 - Change: +38 The GOAT QB so far and only taken 10th in the redraft? Well, that's what happens when you don't fight regression and cut a career a bit short. The system QB argument proponents can have a field day with 2nd lowest peak TPE among Top 11, but it doesn't take away his 3 MVP trophies or 5 QB of the year positional awards. Never missing playoffs is huge and he easily deserves max career quality score. Player name: Dan Miller - username: @7hawk77 College: Louisiana State University Position: DT Peak TPE: 833 - TPE Score: 8,33 Last season played in the league: S9 - Longevity score: 9 Career Quality Score: 12 Activity Grade: 5 Overall Score: 34,33 Originally Drafted by: ![]() Redraft Position: 9 - Change: +79 A fantastic steal at always needed position and already Hall of Famer. Not much more you can wish for a 15th rounder, right? Very active during Miller peak years, established plenty of records and won Defensive Player award as well as two Defensive Lineman titles to his name. Stayed for most time with SJS and some time in Colorado. As you may know, those are the only franchises without Ultimus title, so he didn't have a ring in this great career. Player name: Jayce Tuck - username: @ErMurazor College: Cal Position: DE Peak TPE: 950 - TPE Score: 9,5 Last season played in the league: S10 - Longevity score: 10 Career Quality Score: 11 Activity Grade: 4 Overall Score: 34,5 Originally Drafted by: ![]() Redraft Position: 8 - Change: +10 2 Time MVP, 2 Time Defensive Player of the Year and 3-time Defensive Lineman of the Year Award - arguably to the most gilded defensive player in league history. Not a full activity mark, because of suspension, and oh well, a lot may be said about Tuck and user behind him. Doesn't take away the fact that he had fantastic value as a player and continued his journey winning further titles with Wraiths and Second Line. Player name: Johnathon Saint - username: @jparks98 College: University of Maryland Position: LB Peak TPE: 1079 - TPE Score: 10,79 Last season played in the league: S10 - Longevity score: 10 Career Quality Score: 10 Activity Grade: 4 Overall Score: 34,79 Originally Drafted by: ![]() Redraft Position: 7 - Change: +51 Yeti really had some fantastic picks in that draft, including S1 Linebacker of the Year, his peak was the highest for any defensive player bar #1 on our list. Stayed loyal to the team and was a season away from breaking 1000 tackles mark. Player name: Mat Akselsen - username: @Bzerkap College: Louisiana State University Position: OL Peak TPE: 1160 - TPE Score: 11,6 Last season played in the league: S10 - Longevity score: 10 Career Quality Score: 11 Activity Grade: 5 Overall Score: 37,6 Originally Drafted by: ![]() Redraft Position: 6 - Change: +29 One of the remarkable OL turned QB, so far the only player being the successful mobile quarterback in league history, posting unbeatable fantasy points total records for a single player. One time MVP and QB of the year had an unfortunate ending to his career, but otherwise, it was stellar and if you can draft a future GM and fantastic team player in the 6th it means you got top notch value! Player name: Antoine Delacour - username: @[7thchamber] College: Louisiana State University Position: CB Peak TPE: 988 - TPE Score: 9,88 Last season played in the league: S10 - Longevity score: 10 Career Quality Score: 14 Activity Grade: 5 Overall Score: 38,88 Originally Drafted by: ![]() Redraft Position: 5 - Change: +60 One more Hall of Famer, that was his own vote away from being unanimous (which can't be said about one other player... thankfully it was noted and his ranking was far lower). One more team player that brought the title to his team in the final game in dramatic Ultimus Bowl X. Best defensive back from S1 and never wavering at this different and frustrating to play a position. One time Defensive Player of the Year and Defensive Back of the Year. Many records and career milestones. Player name: Boss Tweed - username: @PigSnout College: Kansas Position: RB Peak TPE: 1220 - TPE Score: 12,2 Last season played in the league: S10 - Longevity score: 10 Career Quality Score: 12 Activity Grade: 5 Overall Score: 39,2 Originally Drafted by: ![]() Redraft Position: 4 - Change: +95 The most successful player to play two positions and biggest steal of S1 draft in terms of raw position change between redraft and the original draft. While he didn't win any awards as running back, he wasn't a bad one either and was a dominant Linebacker, winning two Defensive Player of the Year awards and Linebacker of the Year awards. Also S8 Ultimus Bowl VIII winner with the Wraiths. Player name: Bradley Westfield - username: @Bwestfield College: University at Buffalo Position: WR Peak TPE: 1173 - TPE Score: 11,73 Last season played in the league: S10 - Longevity score: 10 Career Quality Score: 13 Activity Grade: 5 Overall Score: 39,73 Originally Drafted by: ![]() Redraft Position: 3 - Change: +69 The best Wide Receiver in league history, establishing almost all records that likely will never be overtaken with the nerfs to receives and boosts to secondary. Similarly to rest of Otters lifers never missed the playoffs and won 3 titles. Westfield also won 4 Wide Receiver of the Year awards including three consecutive ones. Outside of Boss at QB and Di Mirio at TE the biggest dominance on the position that is much more popular. Player name: Turk Turkleton - username: @Raven College: U.C. Davis Position: K Peak TPE: 996 - TPE Score: 9,96 Last season played in the league: S12 - Longevity score: 12 Career Quality Score: 13 Activity Grade: 5 Overall Score: 39,96 Originally Drafted by: ![]() Redraft Position: 2 - Change: +75 Oh my Kicker should've been taken 2nd overall, are you serious? I kind of am, though I considered using some positional modifier to the overall score that would take into account needs and that some position isn't as reliant on TPE earned. Wouldn't be fair to the user through and our top two players are only ones that went all the way and had an as good career as you could have hoped for any player. Turk won 6 positional awards (3 times as kicker, 3 times as punter) and was the hallmark of the special teams and Hawks player throughout his entire career. Player name: Angus Winchester - username: @timeconsumer College: Wisconsin Position: OL Peak TPE: 1222 - TPE Score: 12,22 Last season played in the league: S12 - Longevity score: 12 Career Quality Score: 13 Activity Grade: 5 Overall Score: 42,22 Originally Drafted by: ![]() Redraft Position: 1 - Change: +24 And finally, we are ending series with the player that slipped once through the cracks but is highly unlikely to do again as his recreated is already touted as unanimous #1 Pick in S14 draft. Angus is one more OL turned into different position, this time to LB and in the end to the defensive lineman. He won player of the year award both as OL and Linebacker and was the main driving force between 12 straight playoff runs of the otters including three-peat and most recent Ultimus Bowl XII. So we are done with players, how about some statistics about players and teams that were part of this draft - the only 6 team draft in the NSFL history. Let's start with when players had their last season: S0 7 S1 17 S2 24 S3 16 S4 7 S5 5 S6 7 S7 9 S8 5 S9 8 S10 24 S11 6 S12 2 After the initial replacement wave of cleanups in S1-3 the first big hurdle came with big 30% regression hit in S10. We had following original position distribution: CB 14 DE 11 DT 11 K 8 LB 15 OL 11 QB 12 RB 14 S 13 TE 11 WR 17 So many RB/QB, so few OL. Average pick change in the redraft compared to the original team goes as follow for every team: OCO 7 ARI 6 COL 0 YKW 2 SJS -4 BAL -7 How well it correlated with Peak TPE? OCO 354 COL 319 ARI 301 YKW 287 SJS 256 BAL 251 Really well it seems, ARI players seem to stay a lot of time in the league to get over not so impressive TPE peaks. Average pick TPE for every position: CB 281 DE 237 DT 250 K 252 LB 372 OL 330 QB 320 RB 283 S 293 TE 160 WR 385 Hard to draw long going conclusions, because of the ton of position switches, but certainly, TE wasn't really an active position. On the opposing spectrum, we have a really competitive Wide Receiver. I mentioned GMs probably prioritizing some position over the others, so what was the average drafted position? TE 92 K 89 S 80 RB 78 QB 77 CB 63 DE 63 WR 63 DT 61 LB 60 OL 42 With the dearth of OL and many players needed to fill it, GMs get players really quickly of the board. Tight Ends, kickers weren't really on their target. WRs are quite high, but you need a lot of them and there were many prominent players in this draft playing that position. I'm a bit surprised safeties weren't prioritized more. Season 1 draft certainly shaped up many franchises future and while some were quickly able to turn around their fate some struggled for many seasons to overcome bad initial decisions. Okay, that's it, folks, it was quite fun and I have more ideas if I find time next year to improve upon for next season redraft of season 2 draft. Most importantly including career stats instead of rather judgemental and a bit rushed career quality score. I hope you enjoyed and I would love to see other players willing to tackle doing similar redraft idea if just to have two independent takes and see what they would value most in this hypothetical scenario. Have fun in S13 and good luck to all tonights draftees! *S1 Redraft - 14-1 - timeconsumer - 01-25-2019 I DID IT! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() *S1 Redraft - 14-1 - Zoone16 - 01-25-2019 Been a steal in 2 different sim leagues. First media that I've really been interested in reading on this site in a long time. Not surprised to see Angus the real 1OA by any means or with Turkleton close by. |
