Deadline: Sunday, February 17th, 2019 at 11:59 PST (S13) - PT 2 - On the Road - Raven - 02-11-2019 Quote:WRITTEN: Football teams have to travel, that is a given, from Orange County to Yellowknife to Baltimore, life is spent with long travel days. Write at least 200 words on how your player or your team pass the time while traveling (How are you riding, who are you interacting with, what are you doing, etc). The cities in the DSFL are all very far away from each other, so you spend so much time traveling around and with all that travel you have to find ways to keep yourself entertained. For Havran this entertainment comes in the form of games. Since joining the DSFL, with his first salary he went out and bought a Nintendo Switch for those long journies. The switch is an ideal entertainment system, due to it offering a wide selection of multiplayer games aswell. Havran and his team mates have enjoyed many games of Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros during their travels and it has become a team bonding moment for the lads. In the moments that no one else wants to play it still offers enough games for Havran to keep himself busy with. Besides his Switch, the team has really been into playing cards. Speciafically poker and black jack. Black jack is more a game they fuck around with here and there to pass some time, but poker has become a serious game in the locker room. With friendly wages being put down during the games. Nothing to major just a few bucks here and there to keep it fun. That usually means to different things depending on if they are going to a game or heading home after playing in one. If they are on the way to a game Jorel has usually already gotten everything he can done in terms of preparing via watching film and the like, though admittedly something he looks ahead and watches the games of his future opponents if they are playing while the Cats are traveling. However, usually Jorel is just trying to mentally get himself hyped up and into the zone. As soon as the Cats get their seats on the plane Jorel is razor focused on getting into the proper mindset. Some guys are watching movies and shooting the crap with each other but Jorel is in his own world just meditating and preparing to hit some people. On the way back from the games there is no time to rest. Jorel usually already has game film on his Microsoft Surface (#sponsors) and is trying to get an edge for the game they will be playing in the next week, win or loss. These are the types of things that will allow Jorel to really elevate his career from his peers when he takes the field on game day. Even traveling time is work time. You don't get the same bonding as you get when you're with your teammates in close quarters for a short while. You get to learn things about your teammates outside the football field. You learn their likes, dislikes, interests, and what kind of person they are. On our trips, I've tended to room with my wide receiver partner Kazimir Oles, or Kazzy as I call him. We have similar interests and also playing the same position brings about more conversation. We both love gaming so we'll each bring some games on the road with us. I bring a Nintendo Switch and we'll hammer Super Smash Bros. for a long time. We also dabble in some cards as well, testing our competitive spirit. Lately, we've been hanging out with our fellow offensive weapons, Canton and Christ, on the road. We're trying to increase our chemistry and hanging out on the road has helped. We're getting to know each other and what people we are and you really develop a bond with them. It really makes you give that extra 10% on the field, knowing your teammates have your back out there. Being on the road is definitely a time I cherish with my teammates. (213 words) (S13) - PT 2 - On the Road - Titan127 - 02-11-2019 On an airplane, Zach Skinner feels totally at ease. No worries, just sleep, maybe watch a bit of film, and enjoy the ride. It is not even really the very nerve racking, emotional experience that it was his rookie year, when he could not sleep, only thinking about the coming contest against whoever it was they were going to play. Those rides were, early on, generally spent with veteran defensive end Ricky Maddox, who would often give him tips and point out mistakes in their practice film. If you were to ask him, he credits a great deal of his personal development to Maddox, who he combined with in his early years to form a threatening tandem off the edge. Now, he generally just takes a seat that he’s used to and doesn’t worry much about who is around him. After all, the ride is just a rest, a call before the storm. If it happens to be one of the older guys. And when that storm comes, you have to trust anyone who happens to be at your side. Now, of course, if there is one thing that the veteran enjoys in the sky, it’s the view of the cities below. It may be one that he sees multiple times in a year, but passing over a city, and seeing the skyline from that angle, is incredible. And even more is the silent promise as his focus latches onto his opponents’ stadium. A promise to himself, that by the time he’s finished, that stadium will be empty (S13) - PT 2 - On the Road - Bigred1580 - 02-11-2019 Nate Swift’s first season and a half has been an interesting experience. He has improved as a player greatly, bonded with teammates, and become a better person along the way. The most growth has occurred on the many road trips the Luchadores have taken during the DSFL season. Growing up in Nebraska, Swift never traveled outside the state borders. The only plane he ever saw was in the blockbuster movie, “Air Force One” which he saw when he spent the night at a friend’s house in junior high. It was a life altering experience. Ever since, I’ve been terrified of air travel. Luckily, in the DSFL, we can’t afford planes to take us to games. Instead we form a caravan of 8 separate Honda Fits! Lucky me! Ours are painted red and green in honor of the Luchadores. Unfortunately, during Christmas time we tend to get stuck in traffic jams due to the congregation of onlookers who think we are filming one of those holiday car commercials in which Santa’s reindeer are actually cars. Silly people, everyone knows Santa drives a Buick. Anyway, the first road trip of my career we travelled from Tijuana, Mexico to Palm Beach, Florida. Unfortunately, I didn’t have my passport. My teammates’ quick thinking saved the day when they shoved me inside a towel bag and stuffed me in the rather roomy truck. For some reason they kept me in there the entire trip. We arrived in Palm Beach and secured my first ever Sim League victory. My teammates were so happy they created a tradition in which every road trip I get stuffed in the laundry bag. What friends! It is so fun doing those cross-country drives. They even give me a flashlight and our playbook to study so I don’t get bored! The constant studying is starting to help a lot, as I am using it to learn Spanish! Here’s to another fun filled season, hombres! #LUCHA!
