Freaks of Nature: Fastest Player in the League - HENDRIX - 06-13-2017

He is called Stormblessed. Simply Stormblessed, no two names required. In case you didn't know he is a rocket of a wide receiver out of the University of Michigan. He sports a giant frame checking in at 6'3" and 225lbs. He also happens to be the fastest player in the entire NSFL. Combining his size and athleticism he arguably has the most raw physical talent of any player in the entire NSFL. That size, speed, and skill got the Arizona Outlaws attention and was drafted in the 9th round, 54th overall. In his first career game he had 44 yards and a TD helping his Outlaws start the season with a victory. I was fortunate enough to be able to sit down and ask some questions to the receiver after the game:

- Do you have a Track & Field background? How about basketball?

I've been asked to try track and field a few times by both my high school and college coaches and I've declined every time. I've only ever been interested in playing football - well, soccer also. I play on the wing where I can use my speed. I think playing soccer is conducive to smooth feet.

No, I've never had any interest in basketball. It's a fringe sport that is under an incredible competition crisis right now. Couldn't care less about that game.

- What current/former NFL player do you compare your game to? Is Randy Moss a fair comparison?

Off the field that's a good comparison. Straight cash homie. On the field, he is a more developed route runner and better hands. I'd compare myself to Ted Ginn, but more reliable.

- What is the etymology of your name?

Alethi, from Roshar.

- What are your rookie season goals? How about long term?

Rookie season, I just want to make an impact. I was a very late round pick - and probably with good reason. I popped up at the combine out of nowhere. I'm currently learning how to play the slot effectively, and my speed can really help against the shiftier slot corners. I'm used to playing outside where I can match up one on one against a corner. So I'm trying to make the most of the transition.

Long term, we'll see. I only signed a one year contract, so I need to see commitment to the pass game and a commitment to my wallet from my coaching staff. I'm focused on one goal. Hall of Fame. I'll find a team that can get me there if the Outlaws can't.

- What skill/area would you like to see the most improvement out of yourself?

Agility is probably the best answer. I'm faster in a straight line than I am going side to side. I need to be able to run the routes of a slot WR and that means being quicker side to side.

-Do you believe you have the highest upside of any wide receiver in the NSFL?

Relative to draft position? Absolutely. Like I said, I was a really late round pick with no fanfare to my name. All I've done is come in, take over the slot role and made it mine. How many late round picks have logged as many hours in the gym as me?

- There were seven wide receivers selected before you in the draft. How do you feel about that?

I understand it. I had no connections to anyone. I was recruited from another planet. Players that went before me had personal connections and name recognition with the GM's. People draft those they are comfortable with.

There is a reason I wear number 80. I'm never going to forget how many times I was passed over and for whom. I'm going to continue showing the GM's in this league that I am a premier wideout - regardless of draft position.

-What is it like being born in Michigan and spending your entire life through college there, and then relocating to a climate like Arizona?

I'm used to extreme temperatures and habitats. Plus, it's nice to get away from the snow. At least I didn't get drafted by Yellowknife.

As you can see Stormblessed is a self aware, confident, and highly motivated individual. He's a unique character with massive potential. He is the type of player fans tune into games to watch and the caliber of weapon defenses have to identify where he is before every snap. Don't be surprised if he's running circles around your defensive backs.
