*Bode Makes Appearance at Championship Night - terriblehippo - 03-07-2019 A NIGHT FOR THE HISTORY BOOKS It was a night filled with action, thrills, breath-taking plays and bone-rattling hits. But in the end, only two teams emerged victorious. The Tijuana Luchadores faced off against the Kansas City Coyotes in an exciting back-and-forth contest. Kansas City looked to be making a comeback late in the fourth, hitting a field goal with thirty seconds left to tie the game. But it was Tijuana who would prevail in overtime, winning the S13 Ultimini 27-30. It was an excellent game of football, and exactly what one would hope for from a championship game. In the NSFL, reigning champions Orange County Otters looked to defend their title from the Colorado Yeti. After a relatively slow start, the game quickly heated up as Orange County pulled away from Colorado. Colorado showed superb resilience, however. They scored a touchdown with less than two minutes left to play, and after a successful two-point conversion the Yeti found themselves only a field goal behind. But a strange decision not to attempt an onside kick gave the ball right back to the Otters, who ran out the clock to win the Ultimus yet again, 24-21. FAMILIAR FACES IN THE CROWD Many spectators showed up to the big games, including a large number of DSFL prospects. Nebraska linebacker Quenton Bode was one of the hopefuls who attended the big game. "I wanted to see the games in person," Bode said. "I'm hoping to be on that field myself one day, so I wanted to get a taste of the action." Bode is just one of the many draft prospects who hopes to fight for the championship in S14. This season's draft class boasts eighty-eight players, seventeen of whom are linebackers. Even with the newly announced expansion teams in the hunt, earning a starting spot will be a challenge. When asked about this, Bode didn't bat an eye: "Nothing is ever handed to you in this league. You have to earn everything. And I plan on working hard to earn my spot in the starting lineup." Now that the season is officially over, DSFL teams have turned their full attention to scouting this massive draft class. Bode, when asked if any teams have been in contact with him, chuckled and answered, "I've had a handful of teams reach out to me. It's still early, though, so we'll just have to wait and see what happens." The next two weeks will certainly be full of excitement and drama, so "wait and see" is exactly right. |
