Hello NSFL,
On April 1st, @YoungTB made this post in the official retirement section announcing that he would be retiring his player, Marquise Brown. Later that day, he amended the original post to include that he was not actually retiring. According to rule #4 under the retirement section in the rulebook, “Players have up to 72 hours after retirement to reconsider. Should they retract their retirement, they must pay a 20% TPE penalty before being re-entered into the sim.” Because his post was in the official retirement section, it was considered an official retirement, and in order to reinstate his player, he must forfeit 20% of his total TPE. However, due to the unique circumstances surrounding this incident, we decided to not punish him to the full extent of the rule. His punishment will be 5% of his total TPE, which rounds up from 49.5 to 50 total TPE.
It’s worth nothing that this will be a one-time exception. From this point forward, every retirement in the official retirement forum, whether serious or joking in manner, regardless of the day or original intent, will be required to forfeit 20% of their total TPE to have their player reinstated.
YoungTB is allowed to appeal if he so chooses.

I think this is very fair - tough call here. Something had to be done, but 20% would have been overkill for a silly joke. Good job guys

Since its kind of tradition to share thoughts after these kinds of rulings, I'll share that I think HO got this one right. I don't think this is something that is often abused and therefore I think the full penalty would have been overly strict, especially given the circumstances. That being said, I would think a hefty fine would be more appropriate for various reasons.
All things considered, I think the leniency was the right option and I would certainly advocate for the same had it not been my player. I like seeing HO being bold enough to divert from a (clearly broken, in my opinion) rule and providing what they feel like is a more just punishment.

Just as a question, what's the difference between this retirement thread and any other retirement that was just a "silly joke"?
