*NSFL MVP Rankings (Week 5) - nickyvmlp - 04-04-2019 The race for MVP is tightening up. People at the top are sliding down, and there's new people entering the fray every week. Let's talk about how the pecking order has changed, according to this casual observer. 1. ![]() The tides have turned, and Childish Gambino is now in the drivers seat to take the MVP this year. The top two MVP contenders faced off in Week 5, and it was a pretty convincing victory for both the Hawks over the Sabercats and Gambino over Joliet Christ, at least for the moment. Gambino played a very strong game, going 26/42 for 285 yards, two TDs and no turnovers, leading the Hawks to a dominant 27-10 victory over San Jose. The Hawks have now won three games in a row, and stand at 4-1, just a game behind the undefeated Liberty, who they'll face off with in two weeks. And the way that Gambino has been leading the Hawks leads me to think they can win that much anticipated showdown. 2. ![]() The Sabercats are on a two-game skid after coming out the gate white hot, not only winning their first three games, but dominating, beating their first three opponents by a combined score of 103-17, and in that time Joliet Christ was the man. But as of late, he's come down to Earth. His recent numbers are not bad per se, but they pale in comparison to his early season numbers. In Week 5, Christ went 19/34 for 199 yards, one touchdown, one interception (his first of the season), and 46 rushing yards. Good numbers, but not MVP numbers. A couple of wins, especially ones similar to his early season victories, will bring him right back up to the top of this list, but until then, maybe not. 3 ![]() This guy is like a metronome. Last week I said Vinny Valentine hits that 5-95-1 statline seemingly every week. Care to take a guess as to what he got this week? Five receptions, 103 yards, one touchdown. Like the Sun rising in the east, Vinny racks up those numbers almost exactly. And it's really helping this Baltimore team establish themselves as one of the League's elite teams. He's going to have a hard time catching up to and passing his quarterback on this list, since their stats are going to be so linked. But if he hits these numbers every week (or maybe a little more), who's to say? 4. ![]() You know, I wanted to say that Micycle McCormick could move into the top of the MVP race by sheer volume of his statline, but now I'm really starting to doubt that. The Yeti have fallen to 1-4 and despite the fact that McCormick is leading the league in passing yards, and had another strong game (23/38, 332 yards, one touchdown, and one pick), these stats feel rather hollow. The Yeti almost completely gave up on the running game by the fourth quarter of last week's game against New Orleans. I know the MVP is an individual award, but football is a team sport, and he's going to need some help from his friends if he wants to get back in the MVP race. 5. ![]() The Philadelphia Liberty got pushed to their limit against Yellowknife, and Dick Wizardry was at the center of that. Wizardry took his first carry of the day for 25 yards, and piled on the yards from there. He finished the day with 124 yards on the ground and 20 more through the air. The Wraiths are going to have a difficult time making a playoff push, being in the same conference as Philadelphia and Baltimore, but with a bit of Wizardry, anything can happen. 6. ![]() People wanted to see a defensive presence on this list, but for the most part there hasn't been a defensive player that I would consider the most valuable player in the league, besides maybe this guy. Charlie Trout might be the best pass rusher in the majors right now. He had a three sack game back in Week 2, and this week, he racked up eleven tackles plus another sack. He's got six sacks on the season to go along with 31 tackles and a fumble recovery. Baltimore can boast one of the best run defenses in the league, and Trout going around and making all the tackles he's making can go a long way. 804 words *NSFL MVP Rankings (Week 5) - iamslm22 - 04-04-2019 It's an honor just to be nominated |
