First of all, I want to acknowledge everyone who helped me get this far.
  • My parents, who sacrificed so much for so long to make sure I had every opportunity to succeed,
  • My high school coaches, who saw potential in me and helped me realize it,
  • My high school friends and teammates, who encouraged me and helped me stay focused on my ultimate dream,
  • My coaches at Nebraska, who refined my game and put me in a position to show what I was capable of,
  • My teammates at Nebraska, who worked hard and showed me how to be humble in victory and gracious in defeat
  • Speaking of Nebraska teammates, I want to thank Mo Berry specifically. He was one of my best friends at Nebraska, and we were lucky enough to be on the Marshals together last season. I know we didn't win it all, but getting to be a part of the best regular season team of all time is a high honor, and I'm glad we were together for it. Good luck in the big leagues, Bash Brother--I saw that contract of yours, and I know you're worth every penny.
  • Last, but certainly not least, my Marshals GM timeconsumer. He saw a future star in me, and I'm eternally grateful to him for giving me my start in this league. He was a fantastic GM for a young player who had no clue what he was doing, and I wouldn't be in the position I am now without his guidance.
Coming into the draft, I had no clue what was going to happen or where I was going to go. I had really positive conversations with all the GMs I spoke to, and all of them made it clear that I was high on their draft boards. But anything can happen in a draft, so I was nervous about what would actually play out. I was made even more nervous by all the mock drafts that left me out of the first round entirely. So the draft started, and I barely had time to process the surprising (but well-deserved) first pick before I got the shock of my life: I heard my name called as the second overall pick. For a moment, I was floored, but that was quickly replaced with another sensation: pure excitement. I had thoroughly enjoyed my pre-draft conversations with Juosu, and the more I thought about it, the more I liked the thought of being in New Orleans. So hearing my name called so early, and knowing that I was going to play in a place I was excited about, was an electric feeling. And the rest of the draft only amplified that: having Slothface picked right after and knowing that we'd get to lock down the defense together. Getting reunited with some of my Central Grizzlies teammates in Forrest Gump and Brave Ulysses, and getting to keep some of my Marshals teammates in Max Vaz and Shaquill Williams VII. By the end of the night, I was basically crying tears of joy.

I'm truly humbled to have been taken second overall, and I'm incredibly thrilled about spending my career with New Orleans. I'll say it again: I am planning on spending my entire professional career in New Orleans, and I am beyond excited about it. So thank you to Juosu for making me part of the Second Line family. And to the rest of the league, get ready, because the rest of the Second Line and I are ready to fight hard and win titles. Now, if you'll excuse me, there's work to be done.
